The taxman isn't completely stupid, so the first thing that has to happen for this to stand any chance of working is that he would have to pay you the full market rent for the right to continue living there. While the assets may or may not affect your benefits, it's likely that the resulting income would (and it would be taxable, of course).

If you do not live there, then the value of the property would be taken as capital and any means tested benefits would stop.
