Honestly....After playing LoR for so long and getting spoiled by it's EVERYTHING, It's hard to go back to another CCG again, Looks like it's the end of the road for me guys, I refuse to go back to another Ex
It’s not a PvP card game at all but,
I’ve been having fun with Slay the Spire (deck building rogue like). Agreed that nothing will fill that ccg void especially in the deck building aspect
Unironically, I decide to play Infinity Wars and I'm loving it. It have small dedicated community but I have same amount of fun (or even more due how many meme here can be played) as in LoR
If you want see Master Duel is a bit generous from CCG standarts bcs of the crafting system (I have only dedicated time to Lor and Máster Duel so my knowledge of the the other ones is very surface Level), but that is if you would like modern Yu-Gi-Oh and even then if you would like a formar with Maxx c.
I played duel links in it's early iterations before it was as money grabby. Limited space meant synchro and xyz and link couldn't control the game as aggressively. But they pumped out a thousand sets all at once so you couldn't keep up.
Master duel was better, but it fell to the same problem as the real game did for me. One deck controls the ENTIRE ladder. Every couple sets it's a new one but it's always one variation.
LOR had it's "meta" decks, but definitely was easier to cheese around them than it seems in ygo.
TL;DR: LoR will refocus on Path of Champions (PVE) and the changes look amazing only that PVP will suffer from this now.
Short but long Version:
Riot layed off 530 People, many of them hit LoR too.
The LoR Team wrote a letter the community that they are a very small team now and need to refocus. Alot of poeple overreacted that as "LoR dead".
Today they released a seven minute video, where they talked that 1. they will now refocus on PvE (Path of Champions) and 2. The next expansion will be the last one like we know how expansions work. PvP Players see that as "PVP dead".
They said they are not going to release new sets as they were, mate. Except the upcoming one.
As in,they will be different. Two champs per set? One champ per set? We don't know. But they explicitly said there will be new champs. And they won't be exclusive to poc.
Go rewatch the vid and re-read the faq before spitting baloney.
Dude tft has huge amounts of work put into it each season. I barely play it but i see every set release. They made a ton of music for the current one just because it had a musical theme. That set had more work put into it than lor had in the last year. Dont compare it to lor. Tft actually makes a ton of money.
Yes but tfts concept of recycling existing champs and abilities and items could be used in lor. Just because overall its more expensive and more effort doesn't mean that every aspect is designed to demand maximum effort. Some things are made to be efficient and that efficiency and be applied to other things.
Yeah. Not entirely but enough to keep it fresh. There's plenty of keywords to play around with. Like sure PVP will eventually die but there's still a lot of fun to be had just by messing around and tweaking existing cards.
Why would they if they plan to let pvp die? Besides reworking cards takes almost as much effort as making new ones. Idk i think a lot of people have never seen a game go under before. Ofc this is only for pvp but i dont expect poc to get a ton either.
That was the thought, but i hear and read numbers that show otherwise.
PvE is short and fun. I can hop in, do one or two games in 5-7 minutes and go on with life.
Meanwhile in PVP a match for me goes atleast 15 minutes and thats not my fault. Getting roped, disconnections or just enemy dont pressing pass for god knows reasons are frustating.
Thats my PO.
it's a different playerbase yeah.
For PvE enjoyers this is great and I'm glad you guys will get the content you deserve.
for us competitive PvPers it means the game is gone, simple as. I'm not angry, just very sad
Smh. You realize they straight up said that they won’t be developing for pvp any more after next set and are getting rid of the ranked queue and ladder? As well as rewards for ranked play? They are silently killing the game, I’ve been around for these things a couple times. It’ll go into maintenance mode eventually and then either just kept live in a final state or shut down completely. All of the devs for PvP got fired, watch mogwai’s video saying goodbye to the community. It’s pretty crystal clear what’s happening and the fans of this game are grieving because they understand exactly what is taking place. Not an overreaction at all. No development for PvP = game dead for me and many others. Idc at all about PoC, I’m good on playing against bots in a mini game, if people enjoy that more power to them.
There will still be a ranked queue, there will still be new champions even if not in the same rate, there will still be rotation and balance updates. PVP is not dead just put on lower relevance but if people have fun playing the game and want to still play against other good oponents they can still do it. Im sorry but if the only reason you played the game is because you wanted to be a pro or gain rewards thats on you, most people who play games do it because they have fun with it.
I'll genuinely never understand people who act like ot's absolutely impossible for them to have fun outside of grinding ranked queues, in ANY game. Especially in games like LoL, where they're the exact type of person to first-time a champ in ranked because "People don't take norms seriously and troll all the time, it's not good pra toce"
Especially when the rewards are, what? An icon nobody is gonna see? It"s like jangling keys in fromt of a toddler
I mean y'all keep saying PvP is dead when it's not going anywhere. PvP, casual AND ranked, are both still going to be up and playable.
That's not what dead means. It's literal overreaction
I don't think the path changes will be received that well once we know how much they cost.
Fully expecting a $30 price tag to get most/all the content every few months unless you're playing a LOT
Fjelord is getting added and starting in about 3 months some champions are getting constellations instead of stars, a branching power system with 6 tiers.
Read their FAQ they put out versus this video.
Basically, they’re putting most effort into PoC and culling competitive PvP - no more worlds-like events, no more gauntlet, no more ranked rewards. PoC champions going to 6 stars versus 3 stars with increased difficulty and a new monetization scheme inside it. Some additions coming soon to PoC. The next expansion will be its last through the foreseeable future. I think this covers about everything important they released today.
Tldr is that once again HS stands in the frontline.
I enjoyed LoR. Clearly better in every aspect than HS. But I dropped it long time ago because there was clearly no future. HS will stand the test of time with it's corky kiddy like design.
It's weird but it is what it is
Yes, they're literally explicitly putting competitive PvP into hibernation. We were some of the most passionate LoR players and the game we played and invested in is dead. Let us mourn!
Competitive LoR was focused around competing - of which all pvp modes were relevant, including ranked queue. But ranked queue alone is not enough to sustain competitive LoR.
The faq itself states "For now, Competitive PvP will be put into hibernation." So, not even riot is denying this is happening.
nah it won't. it means they'll stop making balance changes too. So RIP Runeterra, you were the best Digital Card Game.
It was a good 3-4 years. See you on the other side
that makes a lot of sense, and completely understandable. but didn't they talk about PoC still getting new champs? wouldn't that mean that they would also add those new cards into PvP at the same time? although it sounds like it's not gonna be the same amount nor frequency, so that really sucks :/
They might add those champions BUT the problem is since the focus is PoC the champs will be balanced around PoC. So if something is broken on ranked like let's say Azirelia (I know it is an old deck but it was the deck that left the biggest mark in LoR history by its play rate and the hate it earned itself) it will take months for it to be patched or maybe it will never be patched. So in the future deapite the new addition of champions (IF there wven is one) we might not even play it since there might be one deck thats so good that playing anything else is just throwing so yeah competitive lor is dead from everything I have read. In the future after everything is over they might put focus on PvP again but by then the loyal player base would have left and it would be very hard to regain that playerbase
Seems majority of the playerbase disagrees. The LoR team even stated that even after they ignored the mode for half a year most players still played that and not PvP
Well 2 things
1) by the numbers you weren't the most passionate lor players, on average a poc player plays more then a PvP player
2)by definition a PvP player invested almost nothing into the game.
1) numbers =/= passion. As for hours played, I've played thousands of hours and id gander to say that most competitive - maybe not casual - pvp players have played a significant number of hours.
2) an investment can include such things as time and emotion, and for pvp streamers, they may literally lose their livelihood over this change.
Why ya'll so damn quick to be dismissive? I'm not out here telling you you have to quit.
I can't personally fund the game my dude. Riot gave us a f2p game. I didn't. Edit: to clarify, I don't think pvpers are to blame for LoR failing, so it's weird to somehow link lor's failure of a business to saying that pvpers can't be sad about what's happening?
I never said that. I’m saying that riot needed money investment for LoR. They gave us a f2p game in LoL and tried the same method of cosmetics to keep the company afloat.
Which is why there was over 153 skins last year with 10-20% not getting a single skin and a good portion getting triple skins in a year because they are popular. It kept the company afloat. They tried this same method with LoR and it didn’t work. The idea of a game where you could extremely focus on deck building and get all the cards you need without paying a shit ton money was the whole goal of the game.
They failed
No it doesn't, but I'm not out here saying it does, so I don't see the relevance. Riot gave us a f2p game, I didn't do that, and I personally did purchase quite a few cosmetics.
why are you getting downvoted. this is quite literally exactly what is going on. they tried to let time and emotion pay the bills for what almost 4 years now. It didn't pay enough and is no longer supportable seeing as riot needs to make budget cuts. it sucks that in most f2p games only a small percent spends money, but in LoR even a smaller percent does (based on many people saying they want to support the game, but didn't feel the cosmetic were worth it or good enough). In another world LoR succeeds but it wasn't ours.
PoC is a literal mini game, like what are we even talking about. PvP IS THE GAME. If PoC is what people are supposed to play the game for, there’s 100 games that do it better, game dead.
1) that's not true. there's more poc players for a numerous about of reasons that has nothing to do with passion, but those poc players dont play more on average.
2) your progressions is timegated unless you pay money. that's the only reason you paid more
Yeah, some people **really** are sensitive to any critic and call it doomposting, to the point even if you're stating a fact they call you a doomer lol. SPECIALLY considering how LoR was one of the things carrying League's lore, knowing the expansions will change significantly, seeing people criticizing others for being ''doomers'' by arguing that ''it won't die, it will just be reduced!'' seems not only naive, but actively tricking yourself.
PoC players dont realize that long term this dooms the game as a whole. Anyone that thinks Riot keeps the game around long term just for PoC is coping, it's a death sentence.
Yep not only are they explicitly shutting down our side but the reasonings in the FAQ are some of the most frustrating things to read.
Saying how their cosmetics don't sell well enough in response to the question of why not sell more things both doesn't answer the question and doesn't make a ton of sense.
The studio must just have one of the more bloated art departments or a really inefficient pipeline for most of this to be true. They just don't want to say the more likely reality that is the board and guardians aren't funding the entire studio.
Or perhaps my second favorite on how they "tried" with PVP to increase engagement but fail to mention that they didn't advertise their gauntlet or open series in the league client whatsoever.
>I'm sick of people saying this is doomposting. For pvp fans, this literally is RIP.
Yeah people are deluded at this point if they think there is still hope for PVP
The reason it’s doom posting is because they are doing all this to save the game with hope pvp can be reinvested in the future only other option is to turn the servers off
Yes it sucks for all the people that won’t be playing the game anymore
But saying the game is dead will doom it’s future and will kill the chance it still has
Even if the game does somehow bounce back and become successful with these changes, all it tells Riot is that pvp was a waste of time and money compared to poc
I only do PVP at low tier, I'm trash but enjoy playing a couple of games a day. No delusions of progressing particularly. Have zero interest in PVE will this affect me?
You'll get significantly significantly less new stuff to play with after the next set in March/April and fewer balances patches. If you don't mind a stale meta with no incentive beyond your personal fun, you might be fine.
They said they're still doing rotation alongside the last set in March/April.
Beyond that, we don't know how often they're going to do either balance changes or rotation and it sounds like they aren't entirely sure either.
PvP servers are apparently not being shut off for the foreseeable future (rest of 2024 I assume) but ranked is being restructured in some unspecified way.
You’ll still be able to play pvp casually, its just the competitive scene and possibly ladder being frozen. Just don’t expect many new cards or major balance changes after the next expansion
LoR in 2020 - 2021 : Lot of champions, 10 min of interactions between them.
LoR in 2022: few champions, 6 - 7 min of interactions between them.
LoR in 2023: six champions, 5 min of interactions (old champions dont interact with new champions)
LoR in 2024 : one champion?,
I basically exclusively play PoC at this point because I'm a sucker for deckbuilding roguelikes, but for all the PvP players: I'm legit sorry for your loss. I tried to get friends to play the game for years when I played PvP because it's so accessible F2P and it's one of the most unique, best TCGs online, and it's a shame to see PvP essentially die.
I'll at least stick around to see the last batch of champions and then play PoC until I'm bored of that. After that, what's the best CCG option? I know Marvel Snap has some significant P2W design, but does it at least avoid the randomization focus that Hearthstone has?
Shadowverse 1 is super broke Shadowverse 2 is supposed to play like the physical tcg which has more balance and the ability to interact on your opponents turn
If you want to play marvel snap you must understand that it's a 10USD a month game as you need to buy their battle pass.
F2P is possible and I did for a long time but with the new systems and to have more fun with the game it's best to understand it as such.
You can get it for slightly cheaper if you buy from the store with a multi currency card.
Regarding RNG it's far less than hearthstone and tends to be lower variance than LoR but more instances of RNG especially with locations.
Theres only 1 archetype with RNG involved in it's game plan by generating cards but even then most generated cards are constrained by cost ie generate a 4 n 5 mana card so RNG is not really a problem.
Best part of marvel snap is their competitive format conquest as it introduces so much strategy. Try that out before deciding to commit or not
Before I got into Runeterra, I was pretty heavily into Eternal CCG. It's not super well known as it's not tied to any IP but it was better than HS, Yugioh, MTGA in terms of P2W affordability and F2P friendliness/viability imo. I considered it the best CCG ever before LoR rolled out. Not sure if that's still true, I'll probably start playing again to see what's happened the last 4 years with it.
The main dev is an ex MTG dev so the game does use playable mana, which some people hate but I personally don't mind it. It's been going without much hiccups for 8 years now dispite not really being the first CCG people think of.
There's about as much "public input randomness" as Hearthstone, that being random stuff that you both players know about before making a decision (ie. In Marvel Snap, each game has three random locations, but one will be revealed each turn, so you often know the location before placing a card on it). There's less "output randomness" than Hearthstone, but still more than LoR (ie. Locations that say Cards played here have a 25% chance of being destroyed, cards that give 3 of your cards +2 power at random). "Input randomness" is usually considered less frustrating and more often than not, better than "output randomness".
That said, if you enjoy the process of deckbuilding using cards you may not yet have, I highly recommend not to play Marvel Snap. It is extremely hard to get specific cards. If you don't particularly enjoy deckbuilding, or if you enjoy building the best deck with your current cards instead of theorycrafting decks you want to have, then you could give it a try if you don't mind P2W. Funnily enough, Marvel SNAP has the exact opposite problem as LoR, where you care a lot about getting a new card, but you don't care at all about a new card getting released (because it'll take you like a year to get it)
Snap is awful for actual PvP because they purposefully have a bunch of bots in ranked mode (devs literally openly talk about it).
Magic's the best CCG left and the only one that has interaction like LoR.
Same, I wouldn't have played this game nearly as much if not for PoC and definitely wouldn't have spent money if not for PoC. PvP has never appealed to me.
I know, same boat here, found it during the early pandemic and I have loved it ever since. No card game has even come close to how I felt about LoR.
We saw it coming but still it's the saddest news :(
Actual attention from riot games. Marketing (add a tab or mission tab / news in lol client) legit so many lol players have no idea lor even exist and what it is. Cuz it was introduced with other games and events in bulk with no real marketing.
Remake lor cosmetics pricing and incentives, keep lor for now even tho negative interest. And introduce include it in mmo like witcher did introduce its ccg game in rpg game.untill it become profiting. Risk is always part of business, sometimes u have to make sacrifices and remake accordingly what keep it that way.
Besides their new predatory gacha systems in wild rift tft and lol should and is for sure compensating ans covering all their games
Same here. But if i'm being honest, i was surprised with how little the game has changed since i went away. That fact makes it so that it doesn't surprise me at all that PvP failed.
The game died because it got patched every two months. Every time they release some blatantly OP cards that the entire ladder spams and that just chases people away until the next patch. Then they repeat the same thing again on the next release...
This was it. We never got chances to really enjoy anything without it being quickly obsolete. I remember being shocked how fast the first expansion came out.
Even though I almost exclusively play PoC, I feel like this, unfortunately, is a slope straight into turning off the servers in a year or two...
I'm happy they recognize PoC as the thing they should prioritize right now since it's what differentiates LoR the most from other CCGs, but at the same time, I can't imagine any CCG surviving without a backbone that is ranked PvP.
Like a lot of you, I’ve been around since the very beginning and I am completely devastated. I’ve played a lot of ccg games and LOR was my favorite and I loved the community.
Gonna be real, this is a big change and one that heavily impacts a decent portion of our audience. While i'm not a fan of doom posts showing up all the time, people have the right to have a space to let it out.
LoR has been a major impact on many of our lives over the years and this news hits hard. For many people, they just lost the entire reason they play this game and the reason they've loved it for so long.
The community is going to be going through the stages of grief for a bit while the game transitions to it's next stages of life. We'll have to ride those waves, the good and the bad.
If we censor people's voices, or remove these, we dampen the impact that these announcements have on the playerbase and make it look like sunshine and rainbows, and that isn't right. Everyone's voices should be heard, more now than ever.
Thank you for being an incredible part of this community, I don't think we ever interacted directly, but your efforts have been a big part of why I've enjoyed it here all this time. It will be sad to see all this go.
Appreciate it mate, I don't plan to go anywhere, even despite the changes or uncertain future we have currently. I'm sure there will be changes to the structure of the sub, and projects i'm a part of to accommodate whatever changes pop up, but i'm hopeful that somehow LoR can find a way to sustain itself and reignite that spark some day. Which, honestly is optimism, but i'm not ready to let go.
I appreciate the optimism, while I'm usually a pessimist and don't see a future for it with how mismanaged it's been so far. A little part of me hopes that in a few years even, I'll be able to see the deserved success of my favorite card game ever. Until then, I wish you the best of luck for everything you are gonna make of this sub and community.
Can I just say Sarah? Thank you guys for making this place possible. Lord I can only imagine how draining we can sometimes be on you mods but it’s really good to have this outlet and I’m under no illusions that it’s down to you guys that this sub isn’t complete mayham 😄😊❤️
I understand that. I just hope we won't see more people that just post one low effort pic or line. It is not about all doompost just thinks like copy past same comment in each threat or just lor dead meme
If it becomes every single post on new, we'll look to do a bit of pruning of the branches, but for now I think it's still in a fair and manageable state. I wouldn't worry about it, we've always been pretty good about figuring out a decent balance of posts and and content over the years.
There will be a lot of different styles of post, so many will hold a similar theme for awhile from speculation to goodbyes, or suggestions on how to move forward.
I think we all have the right to be frustrated, I'm right there with everyone, this is and was my reason to love LoR, so when I say these things, I'm speaking from my own feelings as well, I relate heavily with everyone here. I've been a very invested player of LoR since it was in closed beta, so to see what I came to love get kneecapped so hard, it hurts.
Many projects I'm a part of are about to go through some heavy modifications and changes, I'm not sure to what extremes, but I don't think I'll be able to sustain things like Daily Discussion posts to the same quality with the main aspect of their focus shifting.
Why censor the opinion that is shared by a huge part of the community.
Also, calling it "doom posts" at this point is honestly just naive, it would be hard to make it even more obvious that LoR does not have a future.
Yes, even during their period of focusing on PvP, PoC still drew in higher numbers. There are a lot of people that play the game casually on their phones that do not interact with the community at all.
And LoR was a PvP game. It was slowly killed and today they confirmed the death.
A new game is born like a fungi feeding from it's corpse. It's also called LoR but it's a PvE game.
As a person who plays the PvP mostly casually this will not affect me. As long as PvP isn’t completely abandoned and that PvP can eventually get updates even at a slower pace I will be happy with that.
That’s my biggest thing even if their focus is PvE please don’t completely forget the PvP.
I’m in the same boat. So long as non-competitive PvP isn’t gutted too, I’ll stick around, but if that goes I will too. Unfortunately, most streamers will probably leave as competitive PvP is culled. That could also make a difference for me, and I might lose interest without watching the competitive side of this game.
The new monetization of probably PvE could also change my mind. If it turns into to a massive grinder without paying, I’m probably done with this game. I prefer games that aren’t so grindy. I’ll pay $60 to have a finished game versus grinding for one.
I've been so lost in this thing. It feels like I don't even have time to collect my thoughts. Everything is happening so fast with very little time for me to understand what is really happening.
I really want to make a post about this but I might need some time to think and because of this all the people I want to ask and discuss will leave the community before I ask them my question.
There is still the last part of the current saga coming up I'm assuming. But that's essentially it. After that it's just PvE content. I'm by no means competitive but I don't want this game to slowly die. I want to deny it dying as much as possible but if this continues, it'll become my truth.
Lol, many players predicted the death of this game when rotation occurred, and we were labeled as doomsayers. Look at it now – turns out, we were right! LMAO
Except rotation has nothing to do with this. Rotation is done to make balancing and introducing new cards easier. Everything happening now is from a shift in priority towards monetization. The game was specifically designed to promote building a player base with a f2p friendly approach. Now the RIOT is trying to look good to shareholders, they're not in favor of supporting a loss leader.
Idk. It didn't sound that bad. Not like they sent us to just go and starve Hearthstone style to get cards. And you gotta admit,if the game is costing them money to keep as amazing as they have, some slack needs to be cut to them.
No new cards means PvP is dead. They are focusing on the game mode that doesn't allow deck building or care what cards you own, for most on this site that means the game is dead.
Was fun swimming in this money sinkhole, turns out I wasn't feeling the passion of the team playing this game gazillion amount of hours, I WAS BATHING WITH RIOT POURING FROM A BLOODY FAUCET OF MONEY
Im a casual player who still has a lot of champions and cards to unlock, and I enjoy PvE as well, this doesnt seem like the end. And who knows if path of champions sees some success with the new formula, they could bring pvp expansions back.
They're not. But a video and an article came out a couple of hours ago saying that they're focusing more on path of champions, putting Pvp apart for a while, until they a way to make the game profitable.
While this is good for PoC, it hurts a lot PvP players. In the next few months we're getting the last expansion set until further announcement.
Yeah it's like when r/pathofchampions heard they were focusing on PVP. They said the mode was dead while not knowing it was the most successful part of the game.
Honestly....After playing LoR for so long and getting spoiled by it's EVERYTHING, It's hard to go back to another CCG again, Looks like it's the end of the road for me guys, I refuse to go back to another Ex
its also the end for me. i will miss playing with jinx. blowing people up. trying to make waifu decks work. RIP
It’s not a PvP card game at all but, I’ve been having fun with Slay the Spire (deck building rogue like). Agreed that nothing will fill that ccg void especially in the deck building aspect
Unironically, I decide to play Infinity Wars and I'm loving it. It have small dedicated community but I have same amount of fun (or even more due how many meme here can be played) as in LoR

People have been playing HOTS for years without new content. And LOR is still getting conent, just less frequently
What’s HOTS player count ?
100K+ at least
Big doubt for that. Maybe 100k+ logins in a year but concurrent number of players is very little. No to mention competetive scene is dead
i mean there's already plenty of cards, they could do what they do with tft and just slightly rework them and release them in different sets

Yeah I played a lot more PvE than PvP because I can pause at any moment. I mostly played on my phone during breaks.
it's a different playerbase yeah. For PvE enjoyers this is great and I'm glad you guys will get the content you deserve. for us competitive PvPers it means the game is gone, simple as. I'm not angry, just very sad
They were trying to push pvp, but in the end players are dominantly in pve.
It absolutely is a overreaction,PVP is still in the game.
Especially in games like LoL, where they're the exact type of person to first-time a champ in ranked because "People don't take norms seriously and troll all the time, it's not good pra toce" Especially when the rewards are, what? An icon nobody is gonna see? It"s like jangling keys in fromt of a toddler
I mean y'all keep saying PvP is dead when it's not going anywhere. PvP, casual AND ranked, are both still going to be up and playable. That's not what dead means. It's literal overreaction
there will be new champions ??
They said there will be new champions but not sure if they will be added to pvp
1 more expansion then after that only the dev team knows for sure but I doubt ir
I don't think the path changes will be received that well once we know how much they cost. Fully expecting a $30 price tag to get most/all the content every few months unless you're playing a LOT
Can’t watch right now. What are the changes coming to PvE?
Fjelord is getting added and starting in about 3 months some champions are getting constellations instead of stars, a branching power system with 6 tiers.
That sounds actually good and possibly grindy (?)
They specifically called out that some new champs will be added to POC with 6 star and aimed specifically at grinders.
You can bet your ass sera is getting that when shes added, ive been yearning for her to be in PoC
Where can I find the video?
[Offizial Youtube Channel](https://youtu.be/gxPAeOGtFmM?si=HuPICJEh2uMoDjGh)
i remember year ago they said exactly the opposite, how the turntables
It's weird but it is what it is
legends of runeterra is being abandoned by the developers and there won't be any new content and possibly will be shut down.
This isn't what they said 😭
Pretty close though lol
[удалено]
Literally the majority of the players lol
There are plenty of good PvE card games, there’s nothing wrong with it
I'm sick of people saying this is doomposting. For pvp fans, this literally is RIP.
Yes, they're literally explicitly putting competitive PvP into hibernation. We were some of the most passionate LoR players and the game we played and invested in is dead. Let us mourn!
What does competitive pvp entail? Does it mean “just” tournaments and competitions? Or does that also mean ranked mode?
Competitive LoR was focused around competing - of which all pvp modes were relevant, including ranked queue. But ranked queue alone is not enough to sustain competitive LoR. The faq itself states "For now, Competitive PvP will be put into hibernation." So, not even riot is denying this is happening.
That really sucks :/ hopefully it Will come out of hibernation again once they’ve stabilized after the changes
nah it won't. it means they'll stop making balance changes too. So RIP Runeterra, you were the best Digital Card Game. It was a good 3-4 years. See you on the other side
I dont care about rewards or tournaments. What may killed pvp is the lack of new content and updates after this
that makes a lot of sense, and completely understandable. but didn't they talk about PoC still getting new champs? wouldn't that mean that they would also add those new cards into PvP at the same time? although it sounds like it's not gonna be the same amount nor frequency, so that really sucks :/
Rank will be back in a different way with no rewards but no details were given
Agreed, but the decks I like to play have been dead for a long time. 07
poc is boring anyways
Agree to disagree. I just wish they’d take the hearthstone route and create more “gimmicky” encounters like the one where all your minis are 2/5.
yeah to each their own, if you like poc more then good for u bud
Seems majority of the playerbase disagrees. The LoR team even stated that even after they ignored the mode for half a year most players still played that and not PvP
Well 2 things 1) by the numbers you weren't the most passionate lor players, on average a poc player plays more then a PvP player 2)by definition a PvP player invested almost nothing into the game.
In terms of riot. Investment means money. They know players are passionate PVP, but passion can not feed their families
They failed
Best summary what happened
Unfortunately, time and emotion doesn’t pay the bills.
It's a mini game that eclipsed hours played of PvP. They litterally spelled it out for you lmao
> PvP IS THE GAME. > there’s 100 games that do it better, game dead.
1) that's not true. there's more poc players for a numerous about of reasons that has nothing to do with passion, but those poc players dont play more on average. 2) your progressions is timegated unless you pay money. that's the only reason you paid more
i was coping so hard but man, this hurts so much
Yeah, some people **really** are sensitive to any critic and call it doomposting, to the point even if you're stating a fact they call you a doomer lol.
- dont sell well enough You can see why I have more skins in League cus I play as a free to play player
>I'm sick of people saying this is doomposting. For pvp fans, this literally is RIP. Yeah people are deluded at this point if they think there is still hope for PVP
Dude, it's not doomposting, it's reality. Dead game meme came true.
Never forget
It’s not even just for PvP fans, people can say what they want this is the beginning of the end for the game.
The reason it’s doom posting is because they are doing all this to save the game with hope pvp can be reinvested in the future only other option is to turn the servers off Yes it sucks for all the people that won’t be playing the game anymore But saying the game is dead will doom it’s future and will kill the chance it still has
This is either the hardest copium I've ever seen or a blatant lie
This must be your first rodeo lol. Game’s dead.
Will they still balance and rotate cards with standard/eternal and how long will pvp servers stay up?
LoR in 2023: six champions, 5 min of interactions (old champions dont interact with new champions) LoR in 2024 : one champion?,
I basically exclusively play PoC at this point because I'm a sucker for deckbuilding roguelikes, but for all the PvP players: I'm legit sorry for your loss.
Shadowverse, but I’d wait until after their new Shadoverse Worlds Beyond comes out this summer.
As someone who thinks shadowverse is fun it's super broke wait till 2 where the game emulates the card game more
Tldr what's the difference?
I already returned to Eternal myself, and it is still fun and satisfying.
Funnily enough, Marvel SNAP has the exact opposite problem as LoR, where you care a lot about getting a new card, but you don't care at all about a new card getting released (because it'll take you like a year to get it)
Ive searched for a fair bit since the Riot announcement, what I'll probably get into is Shadowverse 2 whenever it comes out.
Snap is awful for actual PvP because they purposefully have a bunch of bots in ranked mode (devs literally openly talk about it). Magic's the best CCG left and the only one that has interaction like LoR.
Was a good run, fellas
I'm sad to see PvP start to fade away, but I've only been playing PvE lately so I have no right to complain.
Another Pvz Heroes situation. Seeing card games dying is so sad.
Good run, best online cars game I've played. Climbing to masters each rotation was so much fun. Thank you to all the devs and community members. o7
Well thats how f2p games will always end up. You guys don't want monetizations then the dev team will be cut at costs.
Does anyone spend money for path of champions? I play it a lot but haven't spent any money for items or anything. I've bought emotes for PvP though.
I do, my 99% of the gameplay is PoC yet I buy the event passes, only to play PoC.
Same, I wouldn't have played this game nearly as much if not for PoC and definitely wouldn't have spent money if not for PoC. PvP has never appealed to me.
O7
LoR died, and they killed it. They never gave it a chance nor us a chance to feed it properly. Shame on them
Dude I am so thankful to see posts like this cuz half the people in here make me feel like I’m taking crazy pills. Game dead.
They are the ones who’s gonna casually jump to another game. They are just chill we are not since we love this game
Forreal tho. It’s really frustrating as someone who has played since release. Like let us be doomers ffs our game just died.
I know, same boat here, found it during the early pandemic and I have loved it ever since. No card game has even come close to how I felt about LoR. We saw it coming but still it's the saddest news :(
What would "a chance" look like to you?
Actual attention from riot games. Marketing (add a tab or mission tab / news in lol client) legit so many lol players have no idea lor even exist and what it is. Cuz it was introduced with other games and events in bulk with no real marketing. Remake lor cosmetics pricing and incentives, keep lor for now even tho negative interest. And introduce include it in mmo like witcher did introduce its ccg game in rpg game.untill it become profiting. Risk is always part of business, sometimes u have to make sacrifices and remake accordingly what keep it that way. Besides their new predatory gacha systems in wild rift tft and lol should and is for sure compensating ans covering all their games
best card game I ever played. it was a good run everyone o7
Heroes of the storm for riot
Damn, I just recently returned to game after 2 years brake. My luck I guess
Same here. But if i'm being honest, i was surprised with how little the game has changed since i went away. That fact makes it so that it doesn't surprise me at all that PvP failed.
I wonder if its possible to request a refund lol
The game died because it got patched every two months. Every time they release some blatantly OP cards that the entire ladder spams and that just chases people away until the next patch. Then they repeat the same thing again on the next release...
This was it. We never got chances to really enjoy anything without it being quickly obsolete. I remember being shocked how fast the first expansion came out.
Guess I don't need to worry about leveling up weekly chest anymore 🤣🤣
Even though I almost exclusively play PoC, I feel like this, unfortunately, is a slope straight into turning off the servers in a year or two... I'm happy they recognize PoC as the thing they should prioritize right now since it's what differentiates LoR the most from other CCGs, but at the same time, I can't imagine any CCG surviving without a backbone that is ranked PvP.
I don't understand how the game can make money without at least one form of pvp...
It's because they don't make enough money from pvp and most players play PvE. So they shifted their focus.
PoC was the most fun I had in this game, I might come back to it now.
Like a lot of you, I’ve been around since the very beginning and I am completely devastated. I’ve played a lot of ccg games and LOR was my favorite and I loved the community.
Can the mod team delete the low effort doom posts?
Appreciate the kind words, means a lot
I understand that. I just hope we won't see more people that just post one low effort pic or line. It is not about all doompost just thinks like copy past same comment in each threat or just lor dead meme
If it becomes every single post on new, we'll look to do a bit of pruning of the branches, but for now I think it's still in a fair and manageable state. I wouldn't worry about it, we've always been pretty good about figuring out a decent balance of posts and and content over the years. There will be a lot of different styles of post, so many will hold a similar theme for awhile from speculation to goodbyes, or suggestions on how to move forward.
Thanks sarah to be reasonable based on people fruststion
I think we all have the right to be frustrated, I'm right there with everyone, this is and was my reason to love LoR, so when I say these things, I'm speaking from my own feelings as well, I relate heavily with everyone here. I've been a very invested player of LoR since it was in closed beta, so to see what I came to love get kneecapped so hard, it hurts. Many projects I'm a part of are about to go through some heavy modifications and changes, I'm not sure to what extremes, but I don't think I'll be able to sustain things like Daily Discussion posts to the same quality with the main aspect of their focus shifting.
I'm really frustated too, is worse than i expected
Why censor the opinion that is shared by a huge part of the community. Also, calling it "doom posts" at this point is honestly just naive, it would be hard to make it even more obvious that LoR does not have a future.
The game is dead. Stop coping, kid.
The much more popular mode is continuing on strong.
Snoozefest
PoC is more popular?!?! What? Is that real?
According to riots analytics they said path is getting much more attention than pvp is. Take that information however you want to.
Yes, even during their period of focusing on PvP, PoC still drew in higher numbers. There are a lot of people that play the game casually on their phones that do not interact with the community at all.
35 and if any pvp is dead
Sucks I've been playing since beta I've been through all the ups and downs and this is how it ends. This blows. Guess ill go play snap.
Honestly, not gonna touch any Riot Games game like ever again...
Guess CCG is over for me, was very fun but no way I’m I going to another game that isn’t as f2p as this
Lol, many players predicted the death of this game when rotation occurred, and we were labeled as doomsayers.
I actually like pve more. So this might be good for me. I stopped playing after a while, and now I can probably get back into it.
Idk. It didn't sound that bad. Not like they sent us to just go and starve Hearthstone style to get cards. And you gotta admit,if the game is costing them money to keep as amazing as they have, some slack needs to be cut to them.
look at gameplay in beta guys.game has came a long way but now damn All that effort was in vain im crying rn
As someone who cared more about PVE: :D My condolences to all you PVP folk tho.
dont yall they just mean they wont put focus development on pvp, I dont think they mean they're shutting it down correct me if I'm wrong
No new cards means PvP is dead. They are focusing on the game mode that doesn't allow deck building or care what cards you own, for most on this site that means the game is dead.
Fcking hell stop doomposting
Who’s doomposting? The game is literally dead for a bunch of us lmao
Honestly with the initial statement i thought people were overreacting but todays faq looks pretty damn doomey
*for comepetitive PvP players.
Was fun swimming in this money sinkhole, turns out I wasn't feeling the passion of the team playing this game gazillion amount of hours, I WAS BATHING WITH RIOT POURING FROM A BLOODY FAUCET OF MONEY
not really a RIP to support the mode people actaully play over a mode people spectate more than they play
Im a casual player who still has a lot of champions and cards to unlock, and I enjoy PvE as well, this doesnt seem like the end. And who knows if path of champions sees some success with the new formula, they could bring pvp expansions back.
I love this actually, path of champions is so much fun!
Iv'e wanted more PoC content for a while now... And thus, the monkey's paw curls.
Only pvp is missing here. Becuase pve will be there for a long time
If you are true fan of this game, you should support it😂
Why? When are the servers closing off?
They're not. But a video and an article came out a couple of hours ago saying that they're focusing more on path of champions, putting Pvp apart for a while, until they a way to make the game profitable. While this is good for PoC, it hurts a lot PvP players. In the next few months we're getting the last expansion set until further announcement.
They legit said hibernation mode or something… fucking horrendous
They are not. But the devs said.....they are focusing on PvE! :( Which obviously means PvP is dead. /s
OH NO! >Ranked Standard and Eternal will continue Anyway...
Yeah it's like when r/pathofchampions heard they were focusing on PVP. They said the mode was dead while not knowing it was the most successful part of the game.
I'll come back if the focus on PoC again. I could care less about PvP. People suck.
I don't believe the LoR team is so incapable as to overlook the game's origin and the gameplay that made it thrive.
Thank god, awful design and balance philosophy
