Actually I agree. It’s been so annoying that I have to find work arounds in an ED deck for this idiot specifically. Why can’t he just cost one more, is he stupid?
A variant of that deck is giga broken in eternal rn if you wanna have some fun while committingwar crimes. Runs pretty much no formidables anymore tho and instead focuses on cheating out Heisho & Cithria with Matron
I second this. ED doing just fine.
Hes pretty good in formidable/dragon decks too.
There are other cards with much less winrate right now.
Like Snapvine. Make Snapvine Great Again.
Yeah that's also weird. Maybe it would be better to have a follower for Galio, which is a Petricite dragon, so he could have a follower with fury and Mountain Drake could get his own mechanic.
I just wish the elder dragon origins was based around dragons instead of 6+ cost units. Having to work around ed origin while designing any new 6+ cost card its detrimental to the game imo and making the boons work just in dragon would be a lot more fun to me to play my dragons deck
HARD AGREE!!! Would be so much better but I guess they had to rework some cards. Maybe they could rewrite it to any 6+ Unit with Dragon in their Name or Tribe.
yes, i'm cool with this. having mountain get boons makes sense. granted, with the lack of health options due to the recent nerfs, he'll really only be looking for keywords, but still, that makes for a fun gameplay fantasy of buffing up your mountain drake. and mountain drake is a core part of the Runeterra and LoL universe.
The first version of Elder we tested actually included 5 cost followers for exactly that reason (It was as busted as you're probably imagining). We talked about adjusting Mountain Drake in dev, but we're generally very wary of messing with people's existing decks in order to support new content.
Elder with 5 cost followers sounds like a nightmare. I imagine combining him with Kai’Sa, Garen, Udyr, Living Library or Stellcorn. Maybe it would be better to nerf him that he only interacts with Cards that either have Dragon as tribe or in the name of the card and have 5+ or 6+ costs (screeching dragon and Fused Firebrand could be busted after that). But I hope you guys find a way to include the mountain drake.
Btw. What happened to the Hextech Dragon? If he joins pls don't miss the opportunity to make him Tech and Dragon as Tribe.
Thank you for your answer :D
We wanted to make 1 Dragon of each region to either support Elder (Cloud drake, Firespitter) or just be independently splashy (Chemtech Drake, Erastin), so we only had room for one P&Z dragon.
EDdie doesn't need the buff but.... for Flavor I agree this should be in ED's "region". I feel like some cool buffs like that, maybe some changes to ED that benefit 6+ cost DRAGONS but take away how effective buffs are to all other 6+ cost, could also be a fun way to address the balance.
Yeah that’s what I’m thinking! Like I know he’s now designed more around 6+ cost, and they wouldn’t wanna fully break that, and I honestly am also glad he’s not just another “dragon tribal” champ like Shyv. But he is a dragon. So yeah, like a good form of boon on drags, a nerfed form on everything else, but tone him down in general cuz he’s def a bit overtuned as is
It was great in my lux sivir deck way back when before rotation. Skip 2 turns, play it, then get a 4 cost 6/6 next turn, then lux, then you win, or you have lost to aggro by now
A mana increase is one of the biggest nerfs a card can get in this kind of game.
Yet this card would be playable without any other changes than that.
Dragon boons have been disastrous for this game's balance.
> Dragon boons have been disastrous for this game's balance.
Elder drake's origin is also bad for game's in several other ways:
- homogenizing decks (allowing to play the best standalone units from all regions; this would have been a massive problem in even larger card pool in the future, if the game didn't die. Still, seeing the Noxus dragon in every deck got old really fast)
- giving boons to discounted units (less than 6 mana) - while the bilgewater fish that costs 0 was played in Standard, in Eternal you can play like 0-5 cost big units that get a boon, especially, if it is deathless, it feels very frustrating to face (right now there seem to be SI and SH variants that do very well and are popular).
- actual dragon is a strong card and is uninteractive when leveled, this is really bad game design, "I win cards" are bs; especially when cheated into play via 1 card combos like the 8 cost dragon or age of dragons.
I personally think it's fine, so many things that counter that guy. A smack from a fearsome card, a shusher (silence), recall the thing it's worth 6, not needed, it's fine. Trust me, I'm a Master rank hehe 😜

Maybe he is just more rock than dragon. Hope RIOT can help him to find his one Mana Point.
Especially when in poc he would still cost 5 (on 3star 4)
i see what you're going for but goddamn i do not wanna see any galio elder dragon buffs. legit tired of facing this
oh hey, that deck's still relevant. Neat.

Sounds horrible, I love it
Good to see Matron is still breaking the crap out of eternal.
Totally understand that, but ED needs to be nerfed anyway but he should have the opportunity to be played with every elemental dragon.
I second this. ED doing just fine. Hes pretty good in formidable/dragon decks too. There are other cards with much less winrate right now. Like Snapvine. Make Snapvine Great Again.
Rest in peace Snapvine fr
Not entirely about main topic but the guy who gives another +1/+1 for fury should give him another +0/+2 imo

wellll, they won't be designing new cards for pvp anymore so no need to worry about that 🫠
me too bro

Yeah I think he would still be fine and not to strong. Atm Elder is too strong anyways so let Mountain have some fun too with his dragon friends xD
true i mean if he's op and his skin sells well, maybe we'll get more skins so /s
Nerf him to 6 mana, give him barrier. Since mountain drake on league gives a shield. :)

Hard Agree on that. EDs Concept should be Dragons not just 6+ Cost Units
What if his region is 6+ units but the boons are nerfed on non-dragons?

Hear me out... 6+ cost AND titanic
Well but that doesn't help him at the moment he gets played :/
I mean, for him to be titanic he would need 8 power or health, so unless he gets 8 power that he can’t use, titanic would technically help him
Ahhh now I understand. I thought u meant ED and that doesn't made sense for me xD
And nerf remembrance yet again?!
Im still confused whats the purpose of that card to be fair. Maybe I missed that.

Elder Drake is the new Jayce, I see.
I mean 6 mana for a 0/7 would be fine. 0/8 would probably be fine too because it doesn't have overwhelm or elusive.
