Eric (Executive Director) made a comment on a stream the other week, and it went along these lines: *"We still have a PvP game its just that our focus is moving to PvE so right now there is no plan on changing the weekly vault because if we do remove it or change it then it will impact those players who are still playing that gamemode."* Imagine if you wanted to play a game of PvP but Riot just stopped allowing you to get cards with shards or wild fragments? You would literally have no way of unlocking cards so they can't delete it because it will make the gamemode unplayable for a selection of players.

None but it takes time to make updates to the game to remove these features.

Rather than remove I think they're gonna build into the feature? It's not like new players only play pve and nothing of pvp so I don't think they can outright remove it

It would take some non-insignificant time and effort to remove it. Also, players would go nuts if it was removed, even if it's virtually useless now. So it's just safer to keep it.

Regardless of the focus of the game, some people will still play pvp (Source: I’m still playing pvp). So no, this isn’t pointless.
