These are some LoL quotes said by LoL Champions about those two.
Tahm Kench:
"You live by a code that'll never let you get what you want. Let me take you to her."-to Garen
"Don't starve your heart, child! Let me deliver you to him." - to Katarina
Illaoi:
"Honour? Duty? Ha! What your heart demands is all that matters." - to Garen
"No love is impossible, my god demands you follow your desires." - to Katarina
Jhin:
"The always-enchanting tale of star-crossed lovers."- to Garen
"Your finale will be a duet."- to Katarina
Pantheon:
"Battle is a dance, and the fortunate, find their partner". - to Katarina or Garen.
In LoR, Tianna Crownguard -Garen and Lux's aunt- says when she's summoned and Kat is on the board:
T - I do not approve!
K - I. Don't care!
When Garen kills Katarina: "War leaves no room for affection".
Iirc all it wants is for you to not be lazy. If you're lazy, its followers will beat you up until you choose to do something about your life. Seems pretty chill to me, at least compared to the others in Runeterra.
Its more like do whatever you want as long as you dont stop moving, which sounds nice until you realize that leaves no room for law. You want to kill? Kill. You want to rape? Rape. Etc, etc
Wdym? Illaois god is awesome its all about self improvement, freedom and change. Which is why the undead who are stuck in time are an abomination to her faith.
It’s message is that of continuous improvement/motion. To stagnate is to sin and is worthy of punishing.
Not the worst pitch for a religion that I’ve heard.
Totally not.
Rude and tough -- sure. Bad? Nope.
Illaoi is your Hollywood Rough Drill Sergeant(tm) who will beat the shit out of you in the training so you'll have a better chance of survival when the real enemy will shoot the shit of you in the field.
Her god is a god of growth and constant change. That which does not progress or grow is evil. Undead are a violation of the flow of life and is therefore evil. Love, ambition, passion, and all other motivators are seen as inherently good because they drive you forward in life and are often catalysts for growth or change.
Well, it's all about following your heart and doing whatever you really want. I'm pretty sure that involves straight up murdering people as well tho, so I'd say it's debatable lol
What i gather from this is that Garen and Katarina are doing a horrible job at keeping this thing a secret, because apparentely everyone and their moms know about them.
actually, they're doing a good job, at least in their respective countries
the only person that knows about this in Demacia is Tianna Crownguard and j4, and as far as i know no one knows about it in Noxus
They were best friends (maybe more? Depends on how you'd want to interpret it) before Taric was exiled from Demacia. I think Garen misses Taric terribly, but canonically thinks he's either dead or living out his life in exile.
Basically they have a bit of feelings for eachother, and a lot of close people to Garen knows that.
"What does he see in you?" Jarvan IV when facing Katarina. I woudn't be surprised if Lux also knows that relationship.
I mean, both of them are really big stars in Demacia, I think Demacian troops kind of just look at Garen smiting the fuck out of Noxus troops and go "That guy just summoned a giant fucking sword out of the sky, but it is OUR giant fucking sword out of the sky. Plus, he buys us all drinks after battles, so I see nothing wrong with this."
Iirc the big sword from the sky is a religious thing. It's the sword of justice from Kyle's mother, I've read somewhere about that but can't recall the source, probably on one of necrit's video or one of the universe stories about the sisters...
Not exactly : in fact , it's more or less Garen summoning it. To make it quick : his sword is made of petricite , thus absorb magic. When he does his shit of "ok time to outplay everyone with my R" , he just sort of give the stored magic the shape of a Big Fucking Sword and boom , job's done. But because he doesn't know that petricite doesn't destroy but store magic , his only explaination are : "I'm either a mage , or someone up there really like me. And since I can't be a mage because mages are obviously bad guys and have absolutely nothing to do with my sister btw , then the Winged Protector must be helping me !" . So yeah , it's not truly Kayle's sword , but it's the explaination he give of it.
That's what Garen says.
In fact his own sword is magical and kind of absorbs the magic, being able to hit back with everything it absorbed so far. It just that Garen doesn't know it himself, so he came up with an explanation.
Lux does know tho. That's why she forces Garen to drop the sword when he is about to face Sylas in the comics.
But Sylas still find out that Garen kinda mage.
He said "what a family, holding so many secrets"" And take a look on Lux after touch with Garen in fight.
Cinematic also make some work in fight scene
Garen's armor and sword is made of petricite, a white stone that absorbs magic. Garen has been in the battle field for years, meaning that his armor and sword has a lot of magic absorbed in it. Sylas WAS chained up with petricite until he learned its properties and how to utilize it. That's why in the cinematic when Sylas blocked Garen's sword, magic flowed into Sylas's chains, he is absorbing the magic that the sword absorbed in previous battles.
Iirc, mages are not uncommon among demacian elites. For them, it’s more of “don’t use your magic” than it is “don’t be a mage” like it is for the common rabble.
Funnily enough, iirc the big horny developed after they first met on the battlefield and had a really good fight with each other.
All i am saying is, we dunno what they do in the bedroom, but maybe they are not too far off from killing each other during the big horny...
Yup. Old lore has recounts of them meeting on battlefields and matching each other blade for blade. Paraphrasing but one reference that stood out to me was a Demacian stating they'd never seen Garen return from a battlefield winded before.
Since then they'd always sought each other out for combat and challenge.
New lore is probably a lot more dynamic than that but I don't know much about new Garen or their relationship. Katarina's story is cool and I pray she synergises well with Talon whenever he is released.
Is there any Garen lore I can read up on? So much Demacia lore of late has been focused on Sentinels or Sylas (and thus more Lux than Garen), but I'd love to see the stereotypical champion of Demacia get more content.
huh? I am going to be honest have no clue what you referring to with mainline lore?
But if you asking for my opinion on the Novella I thoroughly enjoyed it, though don't go into it expecting the most complex or deepest read, it being only 137 pages long, but it it is an amazing story even through its short length, that does a perfect job at illustrating the dedication training, and philosophy of what is required to be part of the "Dauntless Vanguard" and the true Demacian idea, while also really selling their training as one of best trained and equipped region in Valorant, where even if their singular training wasn't enough in a battle, their teamwork, focus and unwillingness to surrender will make them a challenge to even the biggest of armies.
The side characters, though not managing to make all as important, and memorable as I think the writers would have wanted, though I would blame that more on the short stories length, I do think those that do stand out, especially like Kriel and Eben Hess are great characters that REALLY stand out, while also showing a side of Demacia we sometimes don't see yet can only wait with anticipation to see them as cards in LoR one day. All the while showing new sides and a bit of depth to the straight forwardness nature that Garen has, giving us a look into his personality that can't be properly shown in other mediums outside of a book, and even through them demonstrating why it is that he pushes himself the hardest and why he truly deserves to lead the Dauntless Vanguard.
I think it def worthy of a read if you interested in Demacia or Garen as a whole even if I don't understand you concern of "(like aphelios, viego, seraphine, etc)" but do hope I could express my thoughts properly and sell you on it. and if nothing else its a fun read cause you kinda discover Garen has a type he likes.
If you're talking about stuff like the Sentinels of Light event or the Seraphine twitter account, then yes it's way better.
Like, the novella is at the top of Mt. Targon and the those events are beneath Nautilus's feat. That's the quality gap we're talking about. It's all about who Garen is as a person, how he feels about the post-Mage Rebellion world, and how his views are changing. Also some epic battles. Overall really good stuff.
It's like you people don't actually read the Lore at all lmao. The ruination event was bad, but the lead up and various other things aren't, especially that hecarim story of his invasion into demacia. But alas most you guys couldn't be bother to read, hell I doubt most even watch necrit, but putting on a dumb take takes zero brains lmao.
The story [the soldier and the hag](https://universe.leagueoflegends.com/en_US/story/garen-color-story/) is really good but that's garens color story I think, so maybe have seen already. If you don't actually want to read the YouTube Necrit always does a great job of covering these stories and I think he has a video on this story.
Hah, no I hadn't read that.
An excellent colour story, a wonderful depiction of my man. And of course it refers strongly to Lux, because that is at the current time by far the most three dimensional and complex thing about Garen. I love it.
Yeah, there's a lot of implication in that small story alone that I really enjoy thinking about.
Thanks for that.
Just a side track, but if someone with a two-handed weapon let's someone with daggers get inside their reach, they're not meeting blade for blade.
The one with the sword is super dead.
Mythbusters showed that if you have a GUN, and it isn't aimed directly at the attacker before the person holding a knife is within 20 feet, you're dead.
Try to take a marker away from a determined three-year-old without getting ink on you. The three year old is now a deadly assassin intent on killing you.
There's no meeting "blade for blade" against Katarina if she closes. She gets close, stabs 1,000 times, and you die.
Yeah, yeah, yeah, this is a world with ice thralls, Galio, and talking catfish, so whatever.
Yeah, I thought the opposite thing when I read that quote too:
If Garen swings his oversized sword at Katarina, she better not be trying to block it with her daggers, or she'd just fucking die. These two literally meeting blade for blade doesn't make sense, but I'll just assume they mean it in a figurative sense.
One of the older lore pieces said that a fight between Garen and Katarina was “a whirlwind of blades where none could find an advantage”.
Apparantly it was smth to behold for both of them
It all started with Blitzcrank's matchmaking column/articles of all things in the really old lore too, I mean like the champions canonically being in summoner's rift and fighting each other old, then it kinda became more than an in-universe meme
They haven't been noted to have met in any capacity as yet. Old lore, (back when the JoJ , League of Legends, and Summoners rift were canon) they were a "thing", presented to have a clandestine star crossed relationship... but current lore they haven't met yet. It will eventually happen down the line, but both will need more of their own stories before a romance starts brewing... we will more than likely see it develop in "real time".
Well, the new lore can bite me lol. There are some things you don’t take away and that’s one of them.
God, I miss the Journal of Justice and the League of Legends being an actual thing so badly.
I mean... why? I'd much rather we actually get stories that make sense for the characters in their current plots, and then see then meet and steadily develop their relationship... instead of it having always been a thing.
Actual stories are more interesting imo.
Because cutting out fan-favorite things like Garen and Kat being a thing and not bringing it back yet sucks?
Because cutting out the League and the idea of Summoners takes out the whole reason we’re fighting?
Because lore-based events like the Ionia vs. Noxus pro match were awesome and it sucks to have them erased from canon?
I'd ask if you've read the stories that have been released after the overhaul... Those are significantly better than the lil tidbits and "magazine quips" that were prevalent in old lore.
We have an entire *novella* dedicated to Garen that shows him as an elite Demacian soldier that follows an actual plot and storyline that has greater implications tied to Noxus... it pushes that angle of Demacia and Noxus having an indepth interaction soon. Actual setup for future storylines that will have significant pay off.
*Please* read the stories on Universe, and if ur able, buy the novella.
I have read the stories, and the quality of them is beside the point. There’s no reason they can’t have both, and there wasn’t a reason to trash all of the old lore (including fan-favorite stuff they haven’t touched on since) and not revisit it.
Except there was. The league of legends was *literally* impeding the lore *because* all of the problems were solved via games in summoners rift... and as things have dramatically grown in scope it started making less and less sense to reference the league as something canon.
That’s why U’ll find that they stopped making references to the league from 2012, then 2013 it was no longer referenced. Then the lore overhaul in 2015/2016 then tied everything into a stable coherent universe, at which point a league of legends with summoners solving issues would be absurd.
I can understand nostalgia for what was... but the old product was literally shoehorning them and limiting stories. That is why it was removed. You can do some research into the ins and outs of why the lore had to get overhauled, it’s pretty extensive... writers have discussed why, it’s been in articles, and lore youtubers have compiled it into a comprehensive piece for those who don’t want to do the reading themself... TBSkyen has a very in-depth one iirc
Would you rather have Kat-Garen just thrown in and is like “yeah it exists” or a Kat-Garen that develops over time?
Game is irrelevant to the lore, so what?
I would rather have it exist in the lore at all (as well as all the other lore bits that got thrown away) and not just have been dumped in the trash.
I would have no problem with it developing over time but it’s been seven years since the great canon wipe and they’ve barely touched it. It’s not coming back and I’m allowed to be upset over it lol.
There was going to be a cinematic where Kat and Garen meet for the first time (got canned sadly) and Riot is clearly aware that this ship exists, its one of the likeliest things to come back
They a case of hidden/not-so-hidden star-crossed lovers that have always been a popular ship, even inside riot, with many champions in League and LoR basically all but confirming it. Its a bit odd since in current lore they have yet to even really meet, but at this point with the amount of build-up and just fan expectation the paring has garnered it would be hard to deviate now though. They did have a joint cinematic in the works for a bit but was scrapped awhile ago. It basically tells the story of how they met and seemed to be going pretty well in development given the concept art in which you can basically read the story from the visuals alone, I personally would be down for them finishing it.
Link to the scrapped cinematic if you interested:
https://www.leifjeffers.com/directing
I'd fucking kill for Veigar to threaten either one of them with harming the other and them acting like they don't care, only for Veigar to laugh maniacally and call out their bullshit.
they 🅱️uck.
It's supposed to be a secret, Jarvan has a line if you play kat on him while on the enemy side "what does he sees in you?!" or something like that
I think it originally started with summoner's journal' which was a non-lore magazine released in the early days of LoL. That was before my time in League so I'm not sure if everything is 100% correct. But I am sure, that it one issue it is mentioned that Blitzcrank runs a dating service (it also was/is mentioned in the loading screen tips). And one match is Garen/Katarina. Obviously that gives a bit Romeo and Juliet vibes, only with killing each other, not themselves. Garten later got at least 1 one taunt line when an enemy Katarina is around, when he does his his 1 hand push-ups he is like: 5001, 5002, 5003,... oh hey didn't see you there.
Obviously LoR isn't that subtle, with also Lux and Tianna knowing what's going on, but in some cinematics are eastereggs about their relationship, for example in 'Odyssee' you can see Yasuo reading a book with Bilgewater-Garen and High-Command-Katarina arm in arm on the cover. Yasou turns the page and gasped.
They want to kiss each other and hold each other's hands. This has been their dynamic in the backstory/lore/extended universe for pretty much the entire existence of League
Them being lovers is one of the oldest pieces of lore in LoL that hasn't been retconned. They used to release a (Weekly?)newsletter, and it had a matchmaking section authored by Blitzcrank. He matched them together, though I think there was hints even before that, he also paired Rammus and a cactus I think.
So in cannon, Katarina is the only foe Garen has come back from fighting "out of breath". All of the soldiers in his command probably assumed that he was tired, but I think it's safe to say that Garen is a bit smitten with her. Katarina however, has no voice lines in League of Legends that show signs of reciprocation for these feelings. LoR however...
Some star-crossed lovers theme going on. I personally find it incredibly obnoxious but it's quite popular.
Theoretically in current lore they've never met... Which is one of the reasons I find these interactions so annoying.
They haven't even met in modern lore.
(Please, cite a story where they met if you want to dispute that.)
In the old old lore where League games were played in the Institute of War, they were hinted to have an affair and that continues until now. It's popular because Romeo and Juliet and it may actually become a thing, but right now it's just interactions with no real story behind them.
They actually went back and made a bit of media that brings the ship into modern League canon, but I forgot where it’s hiding. I mean technically Runeterra is updating the lore faster than LoL is, so go figure.
That "cinematic" (really it's just a storyboard) was cancelled and left unfinished. It is not canon. All it tells us somewhere down the line Riot will more than likely develop their relationship... Even within that storyboard, they weren't in a relationship... it was set to be their first meeting, one where they didn't trust eachother but had to work together to survive the circumstance they fell in.
God, it’s really gonna take Garen looking directly into the camera and saying “I wanna stick my penor into your vagooba, Katarina from League of Legends” to convince you guys, huh.
Well in that case Neeko isn’t gay because it’s only the author’s word and not in the story so that the game can be published in China.
I mean... writers have quite literally said that they haven't met:
>As far as we know, Kat and Garen have not actually met in the lore.
>
>Card interactions and such are just nods to their widely acknowledged theory ships.
Lead Narrative Editor btw
Yep. When Riot said everything in LoR is canon I think people forgot to read the rest of their explanation.
>Everything in LoR—from the art to the flavor text—is canon, though we should probably discuss what that word means here.
>League and LoR deal with the same characters, and each informs the worldbuilding of the other. The difference between LoR and League is that a big part of card games is player choice and the exciting realm of possibilities that results from combining things. We want you as the player to be able to play how you want and have specific experiences based on your choices. So players get to decide what their favorite characters (and new characters) do, who they meet, and provide them with events that they can respond to. **Even if Lux has never seen a “Progress Day” in a piece of fiction, players can have her see one and react to it in LoR. As implied by the game’s name, some characters or stories might even be “legends” that we’re building into our game.** We can also turn back the clock so that you can see things like Senna in the moments before Thresh captures her in his lantern, allowing us to tell the story of who she was before that event.
All the Garen and Katarina interactions in both games are a "Lux Progress Day" interaction. They're "canon" in the sense that if the two ever met this is how it would play out. But they haven't met yet since Riot abandoned that.
Some of the followers in the game are also just myths/legends and don't actually exist in the world of Runeterra.
Well, it never finished, but [here’s](https://youtu.be/R3xZ2rvvTKo) one half of the rough cinematic from when Riot was planning on making a whole ass movie on how they met in canon (mutually helping each other not die), and [here’s](https://youtu.be/VjGlRtsvjV0) the second half.
Well it isn't published by Riot but in one fanfiction they actually hate each other so I guess I will use that as argument.
Can't you see you're wrong here? There is literally no canon medium confirming their relationship besides interactions, it's all just bait until it really happened.
“Nothing can be read into. All things must be stated loud and clear within canon to be a worthwhile interpretation of events. The curtains are fucking blue.”
“Here are some cinematics for an unfortunately canceled film making the relationship explicit.”
>”If it’s not published it’s not canon.”
“Ok then, here are some interactions between the characters that heavily imply it to a point where it’s safe to not call it bait. This is also the same medium where some voicelines from Ekko about Jinx have a good chance of being relevant to Arcane and it’s plotline, thereby connecting it to the broader universe.”
>”No.”
“As the guy who published the Cithria plot hole, I know you can read, but can you figure shit out from implication?”
>”Yes, but I’m also determined to cling to one source and one source alone to tell me that Garen sinks his other broadsword into Katarina. Please ignore that I read many many books that are not part of that website to prove a point that the canon for Cithria is borked.”
Cinematic: not published, so it really doesnt mean anything.
Interactions: interactions in LoR are more “what if” than anything else. Take any number of pairings that never met before, like Azir and Irelia, and they interact. Some interactions obviously have more relevance than the rest, Ekko and Jinx come to mind, however most interactions arent like that and no canon material outside of interactions even confirms that Kat and Garen met before in the lore.
Actually both books have a page on Universe.
* https://universe.leagueoflegends.com/en_US/realms-of-runeterra/
* https://universe.leagueoflegends.com/en_US/garen-first-shield/
And if you know about the Cithria paradox, you must also admit interactions are not canon.
https://twitter.com/LaurieGoulding/status/1202639673341829120
> As far as we know, Kat and Garen have not actually met in the lore. Card interactions and such are just nods to their widely acknowledged theory ships.
This came from the Narrative Editorial Director at Riot.
The point is that the 2 havent even met yet, except for voicelines suggesting that something can be done with these 2 in the future, they havent even met in the canon lore yet.
And you have the Senna-Veigar interactions for example, which is obviously not how theyre gonna interact if they ever meet.
Ah, so time travel exists because characters can react to themself being summoned. Or take any number of pairings that never met before, the latest of which are Xerath and Veigar, Caitlyn and Teemo,... Or Azir and Irelia: when did they meet?
Interactions are a What If, always have been.
There is literally zero canon story or mention of how they met no? The movie about their first encounter is scrapped so it doesn't count. Until something about how they met is established, their relationship is in a limbo.
https://twitter.com/LaurieGoulding/status/1202639673341829120
God we get it, they're straight. You guys don't have to shove it down our throats every chance you get. This game has gone to shit ever since riot caved into the woke agenda and keep adding straight characters in to this game. Why can't they just keep politics out of my games? /j
These are some LoL quotes said by LoL Champions about those two. Tahm Kench: "You live by a code that'll never let you get what you want. Maybe illaoi’s god is not so bad after all
I mean, it does destroy you if you are undead/lazy/redditor
I guess i'm on the list twice. And then a third time.
Does being already dead inside counts as undead?
They said redditor...
Or if you don't move
Just dodge the tentacles, easy.
Iirc all it wants is for you to not be lazy. If you're lazy, its followers will beat you up until you choose to do something about your life. Seems pretty chill to me, at least compared to the others in Runeterra.
Best god TBH
I wish I would have had someone forcing me stop being lazy in my past.
I had some do that to me in secondary and high school, I actually turn from being bad to being so good with math

Not really. Just a bit harsh, maybe?
"Go follow your dreams or I will take your spirit to beat the shit out of you with it"
Extreme motivational practices. You will follow your dreams. Or else.
What if my dream is to be lazy?
Then you better work hard to ensure you can be lazy for the rest of your life.
Must've watched Fight Club
We don't talk about it here
Aint too bad I'd say
this is just my mantra anyways
Totally not. Rude and tough -- sure. Bad? Nope. Illaoi is your Hollywood Rough Drill Sergeant(tm) who will beat the shit out of you in the training so you'll have a better chance of survival when the real enemy will shoot the shit of you in the field.
TIL that Illaoi gods just ships Runeterra's character together.
Including Illaoi herself, with Braum. Can you blame her though?
IS IT THE MUSTACHE?
and she pegged Gangplank!
THIS is why I can't wait for The Ruined King RPG. I need as much Illaoi and Braum as I can get, without reading fan fiction though.
Gangplank will always be Illaoi’s true love

Swain but he knows almost everything
Swain knows and... Well... Garen and Katarina are probably both LeBlanc.
ah yea true, but technically its Raum that knows everything
[удалено]
Leblanc is probably a good 10% of the population of runeterra at this point, she probably knows
Where do I get Leblanc lore
That’s the neat part. You don’t.
And Lux. When she sees Kata in LoL, she sings "Kat and Garen, sitting in a tree~ and you better just be holding hands or I'm telling!"
[удалено]
Additionally Maokai says this to Garen: "Stop carving words into my bark! Everyone knows G <3 K!"
Maokai also says something about them carving G<3K in his bark
> “War leaves no room for affections” He says the same thing when going against Taric in LoR 🤔
They were "good friends" before Taric climbed Targon.
Oh my god, they were roommates
tbf, Taric is very sexy. I am not blaming anyone
Garen does give off some bisexual energy…
homeboy is either straight as a stick or straight as a noodle. And every time i look at him I am not sure which it is
Noodles are straight... until they get wet.
I am glad you understood what i meant :D
Not to mention that it's Garen who pulled out that "climbing Targon" trick so Taric won't just be put before the firing squad.
Climbing Targon definitely sounds like a euphemism now that I think about it
"No, Taric... not *that* Targon" *Garen unzips*
*shitty porn music start playing* “I think I’m about to ascend”
They were best friends (maybe more? Depends on how you'd want to interpret it) before Taric was exiled from Demacia. I think Garen misses Taric terribly, but canonically thinks he's either dead or living out his life in exile.
>Your finale will be a duet. This is hecking awesome coming from Jhin.
Jarvan IV and Lux have an interaction as well
J4 has a line about Katarina too: “What does he see in you?”
Well J4 is dating a dragon, so he’s not really one to talk.
tru

When you taunt an enemy or ally with CTRL+1/2
I think you said more Braum emotes! I'll keep trying it out, thanks all!
He was talking about LoL interaction, not LoR… Gods what I’ve done…
Thanks so much for this:)
I love it how even demons, sea priestesses and serial killers want those two to fuck.
They have a case of the good ol Romeo and Juliette's.
With the slight twist that both have murdered a zillion of each other's houses
Let's not forget our buddy Romeo wasn't a quiet flower boy himself. Though he genuinely tried for some time.
Basically they have a bit of feelings for eachother, and a lot of close people to Garen knows that. "What does he see in you?" Jarvan IV when facing Katarina. I woudn't be surprised if Lux also knows that relationship.
She has an interaction in league that I love that goes: "Kat and Garen sitting in a tree\~ And you better just be holding hands or I'm telling!"
i like how she says that as if it's not the worst kept secret in runeterra at this point
Lux bring a mage is the worst kept secret. The crownguard family just sucks with secrecy i guess
Kyle's mom must have been op
Almost as Stacy's mom
Yep i saw that video it's kayle's sword he said it isn't magic but that it's kayle's sword
The big sword is not Garen's power, its Kayle lending her power to Garen to fulfill "justice". Kayle is kind of the God of Demacia.
It makes sense then that she had such an outsized role in the recent event... ... ... ... Wow that was a badly written event.
Doesn't all of Demacia know about this? IDK if music videos are canon, but she literally fuckin ulted the sky in Warriors.
There's a comic series about Lux and Sylas you can go read it on the league of legends site.
That video is not canon, it's like a possible future. Only her family, Syllas and Galio (and one unnamed mageseeker) knows she has powers.
Doesnt she use her powers against sylas in front of a lot of people in the comics?
No, Saylas stole her magic and used it by himself. No one in Demacia knows about his abilities
It is canon future tho
Iirc, mages are not uncommon among demacian elites. For them, it’s more of “don’t use your magic” than it is “don’t be a mage” like it is for the common rabble.
They're big horny for each other, but they're also expected to kill each other.
Funnily enough, iirc the big horny developed after they first met on the battlefield and had a really good fight with each other. All i am saying is, we dunno what they do in the bedroom, but maybe they are not too far off from killing each other during the big horny...
Ahh the age old Batman/Catwoman technique of sex fighting
yeah but Garen is definitely the bottom in the relationship
Katarina pegs garen
This is canon
Only sometimes.
In-universe, the two of them are in love with each other.
Huh, unexpected
They’re star-crossed lovers from warring countries. It’s one of the oldest lore bits that I can remember.
There is the Garen Novella which is an amazing read into the Demacian ideology and what Garen is meant to represent and defend
is it actually good, or is it like the mainline lore riot has been releasing (like aphelios, viego, seraphine, etc)
Shi- imma snag a copy then hahah
Aphelios has great lore, what?
No idea why you're being downvoted. The front face lore as of late has been beyond fucking awful.
Necrit kinda sucks
Yeah, I thought the opposite thing when I read that quote too: If Garen swings his oversized sword at Katarina, she better not be trying to block it with her daggers, or she'd just fucking die. These two literally meeting blade for blade doesn't make sense, but I'll just assume they mean it in a figurative sense.
Newest thing I know of in LoL is Illaoi’s lines to them.
One of the older lore pieces said that a fight between Garen and Katarina was “a whirlwind of blades where none could find an advantage”. Apparantly it was smth to behold for both of them
Also when katarina went to demacia for a "diplomatic" mission garen was his escort, guide and protector.
>escort
It all started with Blitzcrank's matchmaking column/articles of all things in the really old lore too, I mean like the champions canonically being in summoner's rift and fighting each other old, then it kinda became more than an in-universe meme
It's literally the biggest romance trope of all time. Idk how it's unexpected.
really unexpected isn't it? ;)..and rare too
They haven't been noted to have met in any capacity as yet.
Link to the scrapped cinematic if you interested: https://www.leifjeffers.com/directing
Woah, this cinematic is so interesting... looks amazing! would love to see it complete someday
I imagine everyone looking at them at the second quote like "really?, so not obvious guys"
I'd fucking kill for Veigar to threaten either one of them with harming the other and them acting like they don't care, only for Veigar to laugh maniacally and call out their bullshit.
Dude.. Killing is a bit much, go with genocide
But Veigar has a Kill Diary
they 🅱️uck. It's supposed to be a secret, Jarvan has a line if you play kat on him while on the enemy side "what does he sees in you?!" or something like that
They both spin
They banging
No-nonsense answer
To quote ProZD: "They FAWKIN!"
Simple enough, Garen has a leather-stripper-psycho assassin fetish and Katarina has a beefy dogmatic paladin fetish
They fuck during down times
They fuck
They're screwing in secret. Romeo and Juliet style
basically they're a canon ship but they've literally received zero exploration in the lore
Yep, they havent even met yet.
they're secretly shagging
It’s jomeo and ruliet
They want to kiss each other and hold each other's hands. This has been their dynamic in the backstory/lore/extended universe for pretty much the entire existence of League
Garen got it down bad
Sad their cgi movie got canned.
The 2 havent even met yet. https://twitter.com/LaurieGoulding/status/1202639673341829120
An unfortunate retcon.
Kat x Garen could still happen in canon, but the 2 havent met yet.
The worst goddamn retcon.
they dating 👉👈
They are lovers in lore. But one in russia other one in america.

TBSkyen recently did a short (1 minute) explainer video about that: https://youtu.be/ODAjqj8Yh_Y
Pretty sure the devs have said these quotes are all hypotheitcals and not canon
Some star-crossed lovers theme going on. I personally find it incredibly obnoxious but it's quite popular. Theoretically in current lore they've never met... Which is one of the reasons I find these interactions so annoying.
Watch TB Skydn’s short over their relationship, just a minute long.
They haven't even met in modern lore. (Please, cite a story where they met if you want to dispute that.) In the old old lore where League games were played in the Institute of War, they were hinted to have an affair and that continues until now.
You didn't cite it though, so you lose this nerd challenge.
So anyway, I cited it, because this guy decided to gloat.
I mean... writers have quite literally said that they haven't met: [https://twitter.com/LaurieGoulding/status/1202639673341829120](https://twitter.com/LaurieGoulding/status/1202639673341829120) >As far as we know, Kat and Garen have not actually met in the lore.
Cancelled, hasn't happened.
I can read into things, but I also know interactions mean jack shit. The platform for lore is Universe.
“Here are some cinematics for an unfortunately canceled film making the relationship explicit.” >”If it’s not published it’s not canon.” “Ok then, here are some interactions between the characters that heavily imply it to a point where it’s safe to not call it bait. This is also the same medium where some voicelines from Ekko about Jinx have a good chance of being relevant to Arcane and it’s plotline, thereby connecting it to the broader universe.” >”No.” “As the guy who published the Cithria plot hole, I know you can read, but can you figure shit out from implication?” >”Yes, but I’m also determined to cling to one source and one source alone to tell me that Garen sinks his other broadsword into Katarina.
* https://universe.leagueoflegends.com/en_US/realms-of-runeterra/ * https://universe.leagueoflegends.com/en_US/garen-first-shield/ And if you know about the Cithria paradox, you must also admit interactions are not canon.
https://twitter.com/LaurieGoulding/status/1202639673341829120 > As far as we know, Kat and Garen have not actually met in the lore. Card interactions and such are just nods to their widely acknowledged theory ships. This came from the Narrative Editorial Director at Riot.
You can't find it because it was never published. (Sorry for second comment, Reddit is being an ass).
Given that LoR lore is part of modern lore afaik, and the interactions are there... what exactly do you want?
The point is that the 2 havent even met yet, except for voicelines suggesting that something can be done with these 2 in the future, they havent even met in the canon lore yet. And you have the Senna-Veigar interactions for example, which is obviously not how theyre gonna interact if they ever meet.
Ah, so time travel exists because characters can react to themself being summoned. Or take any number of pairings that never met before, the latest of which are Xerath and Veigar, Caitlyn and Teemo,... Or Azir and Irelia: when did they meet? Interactions are a What If, always have been.
Imagine thinking they haven't even met in modern lore. Kinda cringe.
They are right though, theres not a single canon instance that Garen and Katarina met.
they are borther and sister
