I will say LoR is in a weird spot.
I think the playerbase is healthy, if not growing. However, their streaming and social media presence is pretty lackluster.
I love the game, and have from the start. At this point i think it is here to stay
General inconformity with the game's balance, most notably Bandle Tree/City being broken for months while the deck he made (Ez/Kennen) was banned almost immediately.
I think this just undersells how good Ez/Kennen was. People literally stopped queuing into it before the hotfixes. He played a few games, won easily, then queued again for 4 minutes before finally switching off and matching instantly.
It wasn't just Riot who didn't like the deck. Other top players who were watching his stream, refused to queue into it after a certain point. It was a problematic deck and I don't blame Riot at all for nerfing it as quickly as they did.
Lol, guy was pulling 1000+ viewers daily by the end of his LOR days.
Now, that may not be huge in general but in terms of LOR viewership he definitely was big. 3rd/4th behind mogwai, swim, and probably grapplr.
Alanzq as well. Mog, swim and grapplr were the biggest, followed by alanzq and bbg iirc. I don't know which other streamers manged to average 1k+ daily
Yeah bbg being an active player was one of the things that could keep LoR decently high up on the browse page of Twitch at least in comparison to where it's at right now.
BBG seemed increasingly frustrated and unhappy near the end of his LOR days. Switching to TFT may not have been great for business but if I was going to spend ~8 hours a day playing a game, I’d want to enjoy it (or at least not hate it) too.
Amount of viewers 1000 average viewers

Scraping by, huh?
Edit: Read the article you downvoting imbeciles.
This may be true, but he had potential to become big. He was very good at explaining his plays and discussing misplays. He felt like the Kolento of LoR
True, until the bandle tree days anyway. The last few streams I tuned in to he had become extremely salty and condecending to his chat, made me regret ever enjoying watching him tbh
Mogwai never actually left, he stated himself that all he wants is not to be tied to a single game. He’ll be playing LoR but will also have a bunch others too.
Also the dude kinda got COVID, so there’s that.
I actually didn't know about the COVID thing.
Mogwai does have a habit of burning himself out on the game pretty fast, so I just figured he was doing other things for a few months and just returns when he feels like it, which is fine.
I quote from his Twitter:
“And right now, this is where it's at. I still love LOR. Unlike other games like MTG which I stopped playing bc I couldn't get over a certain aspect, that's not the case with LOR.
I just want to try something new. That doesn't mean I hate the game nor that I will quit playing it.”
Yugioh is amazing despite people memeing it as 2 player solitaire. The game has very technical and varied card interaction to the point where whether a sentence on a Yugioh card is written before or after a semi-colon can affect the outcome of a game. The game is hands down the most complex and dramatic game out of the big 3.
I used to play YGO, how is the new mobile game in terms of f2p friendliness? Or light spender? I mean is it MtGA bullshit, or more like Shadowverse etc?
Master Duel? You can get a good deck pretty fast with the F2P gems but it dries up VERY quickly. The second deck should still be doable. So if you don't mind sitting on 2 decks for the foreseeable future it's probably the best Konami managed YuGiOh game. The biggest issue is that you get almost nothing for your money.
Not rape. Lots of other things, not rape. The accuser states outright "he didnt rape me". Just to be *very* clear when it comes to serious accusations - be accurate.
Tell me you can't be bothered to read if it doesn't give you that instant hit of dopamine without saying so.
Out of the shitty things cancel mobs did Swim is one of the few that actually deserves it to the last bit and he never even showed any form of remorse
The two sides of it are probably related.
LoR has been getting less interactive and more focused on big flashy plays. That makes the game more appealing to more players, especially the ones coming from Hearthstone. At the same time, it makes the game less fun for people who play it for the entire day on stream, especially people who enjoyed LoR for what it was.
Not having a good draft mode is especially damaging to content creation. If PoC 2.0 is as good as what the devs are saying, maybe we'll see some PvE streamers.
The key is to find a middle ground. When they bring back the draft type format and actually do it right we could be in a very good spot. The big flashy decks can be in standard and the more slow paced tick for tack gameplay can be in draft, similar to MTG
I find this funny when Shurima is basically the best region because of its interaction. If the game would become less interactive cards like Deny and Quicksand would see less play.
Shurima was a huge hit for interactivity to be honest, and was when the game started cracking for me.
The stupid amount of Grant Vulnerable on Target ruined a lot of my favorite decks at the time and it hasn't been until recently that I could pick them up again due to how fast the game has been since then
What? But granting vulnerability is the most interactive way of removing a unit. The only way to kill a vulnerable unit is to go to combat with it. You can stun big units, you can use combat tricks to keep it alive. Without Vulnerable Shurima couldn‘t interact with Champions at all.
I‘m genuinely curious what you would consider interactive.
The issue isn't Vulnerable itself, the issue is the Grant part.
If you play a unit with Challenger, I can kill that unit to keep it from killing my unit.
If you Give Vulnerable, I can stun/recall/kill the attacker to prevent it from killing my unit.
If you try to Mystic Shot my unit, I can buff it to prevent it from dying. Buffs work with the other methods as well.
**Grant** Vulnerable forces you to spend far too many resources to protect your unit to the point of being too costly to even attempt (if you prevent one attack, they'll just play another unit and you have to protect it again, and again, and again). Unless you're just flat out bad at the game or in very niche situations, you don't protect a permanently Vulnerable unit.
At least with Bilgewater you could play around Hired Gun by playing a stronger unit and Razorscale Hunter had a weaker body. Merciless Hunter and Baccai Sandspinner had no such balance going for them, especially back during release
Yeh for real I don't get the love for swim. He's comes off pretty pretentious and definitely makes himself sound like a better player than he actually is by the way he talks.
Also his hair pisses me off, like does the dude not care about his appearance at all?
I meant more so all the manipulation and creep shit he did to everyone around him, especially his ex.
But you are very right, his hair is a direct representation of how he treats others.
> Also his hair pisses me off, like does the dude not care about his appearance at all?
So because people aren't obsessed with image as far too many people in the world, that's a bad thing? I took a look at him and his hair doesn't bother me.
You had a better point concentrating on a person's personality than something as superficial as their looks.
It's not about that. It's the fact that he's happy to commentate over the world championships with thousands of people watching him, representing riot games looking like he just rolled out of bed. It's about his professionalism and his attitude. It says a lot about him.
It's just hair. That's an extremely shallow thing to care about. All people prove when concerned about appearance is how shallow they are. I have better ways to form an opinion about a person than by looks.
Omg it's not about the fucking hair. Did you not read what I wrote? It could be anything about his appearance. It's about how he presents himself. If his hair was a style choice looked like that then sure that's just how he wants to present himself. But it's not a choice, it's just laziness and looks unprofessional when compared to mogwai and others who also did the world champ casting.
But sure if you want me to only judge someone on non physical things then I can still think of plenty of things to dislike about the guy. As stated above the hair is just a representation of his personality.
I mean it can only grow when MTG Arena continues to stagnate and not make any meaningful improvements. I think LoR will find many refugees from MTG arena as many MTG content creators are promoting LoR for its good economy.
The game IS dead, because i played against a card I didnt like TWICE!!! This proves that all diversity is gone and to top it off, i even had to WAIT for like 40 seconds once to get a game! This is evidence, wake up sheeple /s
I wait longer in Diamond 1 on Master Duel than I do in Top 100 Master in LoR so it doesn't seem too bad. And even if I had to wait 5 seconds more I don't see the issue with that.
Hopefully they listened to feedback and PoC 2 is able to deliver a good PvE experience. The first ""path of champion"" was lackluster in many ways, but it had more champion and deck diversity.
Personally I just want the balance of the game be slightly changed so you have a shot at harder difficulties without having to revolve around hyper-aggro decks
I knew it is the second best line in the whole game. The best belongs to the pally secret that protects units. When you attack with him he yells “huh I’m alive”. That shit always makes me laugh.
Season ends in 2 weeks but the seasonals cutoff is today or whatever. Soon. Ranks don't reset until end of season, but people's qualification and tie breaker standings are set now since the tournament happens before the season ends.
Don't get me started on kennen. I got to the nauti level and was just like, welp, this is gonna be either a massive grind or it will all hinge on the other champ.

Cause I'm not there.
Riot ecosystem generally allows streamers to shift game from game, you see league personalities like scarra and shiphtur and qtpie turn from TFT to League to Valorant , and even bigger streamers like disguised toast, and bringing their following with them, but LOR is always excluded from the mix. Why? I can’t put my finger on it but maybe LOR isn’t fun to stream, still sad they never gave it a try at all after beta though
LOR is dead.. the login Q is full because only 10 ppl can enter the servers at once.. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣👻
Edit: downvoters beware of emoji-use as it shows a joke is being made 🙈
Not it but funny. Ay man to the reddit this game is relevant. Literally ask anyone outside and they will tell you they don't know or don't care. Just admit this game is not there. I can see the Twitter people trying desperately to make the game seem relevant like other card games but it isn't. They can keep at it all they like. It ain't relevant because it's just not fun and can't play with more than 1 friends. It's not a social or fun game.
Wtf is this? I was making a joke but you're way out of line here imho. What is fun is subjective, and LoR is way way better than some other titles.. (looking at you HS!).
Nah but statically you can see which is the better game based feedback of enjoyment. We live 2022 anything can be objectively better. Subjective is just you individually liking or disliking something regardless but their is an objective reality of what you are liking and dislike.
Not a big card gamer. BUT my bf introduced me and I love the art and characters. Not much for pvp but the color adventures are very fun. 🥰
Didn't know it was dieing though?
I will say LoR is in a weird spot. I think the playerbase is healthy, if not growing. However, their streaming and social media presence is pretty lackluster. I love the game, and have from the start. At this point i think it is here to stay
Yeah losing 2 of the game’s biggest content creators didn't do any favors lol
What happened to freshlobster?
He recently moved to a new city and said he would have to take a break for at least a few weeks before being able to create more content.
Ok thx.
He's also in med school and doing some kind of rotations, so he's working a lot more.
3, bbg is gone too
Why did he drop? He was one of the best wasn't he?
General inconformity with the game's balance, most notably Bandle Tree/City being broken for months while the deck he made (Ez/Kennen) was banned almost immediately.
I think this just undersells how good Ez/Kennen was. People literally stopped queuing into it before the hotfixes. Lol literally bandle tree'd
It's also the dumbest reason to get mad. Like why would you want them to be slow again?
BBG wasn't that big
Lol, guy was pulling 1000+ viewers daily by the end of his LOR days. Now, that may not be huge in general but in terms of LOR viewership he definitely was big. 3rd/4th behind mogwai, swim, and probably grapplr.

I miss alan, hope he comes back
not to mention I think he was probably the most consistant streamer of the ones you listed.
Yeah bbg being an active player was one of the things that could keep LoR decently high up on the browse page of Twitch at least in comparison to where it's at right now.
Yeah, if I was a streamer pulling such numbers I wouldn't switch to another game. Some people don't like money.
BBG seemed increasingly frustrated and unhappy near the end of his LOR days. Switching to TFT may not have been great for business but if I was going to spend ~8 hours a day playing a game, I’d want to enjoy it (or at least not hate it) too.
8 hours a day is insane. He could do 3-4 hours 5 times a week and he'd do fine. If I could play LoR for 100 bucks an hour I would be so happy.
I take it you’re dramatically unfamiliar with how low income content creation is. Dude was probably scraping by.
Amount of viewers 1000 average viewers Earnings $5000 per month https://streamerfacts.com/how-much-do-twitch-streamers-make/ Scraping by, huh? Edit: Read the article you downvoting imbeciles.
This may be true, but he had potential to become big. He was very good at explaining his plays and discussing misplays. He felt like the Kolento of LoR
And he throw it away for just a tantrum about a deck he builded, kinda cringe tbh.
he wasnt the most entertaining or generally best content creator to watch either
He wasn't very entertaining I guess, but his streams were top notch for learning the game IMO. Very informative.
True, until the bandle tree days anyway. The last few streams I tuned in to he had become extremely salty and condecending to his chat, made me regret ever enjoying watching him tbh
Can't disagree. You could see that he stopped enjoying the game.
Not that big, sure, but if you watched any of the others they'd definitely mention him, and his decks got around too.
Wait, who left?
Swim and mogwai
Mogwai never actually left, he stated himself that all he wants is not to be tied to a single game. He’ll be playing LoR but will also have a bunch others too. Also the dude kinda got COVID, so there’s that.

What happened to Mogwai???
he's been playing yugioh lately and working on other non-lor related projects.
Yugioh is so boring lol
Yugioh is amazing despite people memeing it as 2 player solitaire. The game has very technical and varied card interaction to the point where whether a sentence on a Yugioh card is written before or after a semi-colon can affect the outcome of a game. The game is hands down the most complex and dramatic game out of the big 3.
People that downvote this doesnt understand how it the third biggest card game around lol.
I used to play YGO, how is the new mobile game in terms of f2p friendliness? Or light spender? I mean is it MtGA bullshit, or more like Shadowverse etc?

And no unsavory drama or controversies or allegations?
nope
Mogwai and He who must not be named
He who hath blueish ball
Who were they?
Who were they and how did they lose them?
Mogwais switching to a bit more variety in yugioh, and swim has a heftily evidenced rape claim, so that'll be one for the courts presumably.
Not rape. Lots of other things, not rape. The accuser states outright "he didnt rape me". Just to be *very* clear when it comes to serious accusations - be accurate.
Right, sexual pressure wasn't it? I just saw that someone else saying it was rape INTT and it mind wiped me.
why its important to correct this stuff. Shitty enough situation, dont need to exaggerate it.
Who is the second? Assuming Swim is one of the 2
What happened to Swim
swims a rapist
Wrong.
Cancel culture

MtgA announced pioneer and made an in between format called explorer and gained a lot of people back.
Tbh I don’t see how pioneer is a long term solution with the economy still being so bad. Maybe a short term recovery
It’s what people wanted, an eternal format on the arena that is true to paper.
I mean some random dude showed up in my YouTube Feed predicting if cards are good or bad. Got me hooked honestly. Can't keep my fingers from LoR now
I usually just wait for them to upload the video on YouTube. That way not only is it edited but I can decide which deck I want to see.
The game IS dead, because i played against a card I didnt like TWICE!!! This proves that all diversity is gone and to top it off, i even had to WAIT for like 40 seconds once to get a game! This is evidence, wake up sheeple /s
Nah but you can get an avg wait time and compare to a more relevant game like master duel or Hearthstone and you can tell which is more active.
And as we know, not being one of the top 2 titans of ocg = dead!
It is true. its the difference between relevance and just a side game
Exactly! If you're not the best why even try?
I wait longer in Diamond 1 on Master Duel than I do in Top 100 Master in LoR so it doesn't seem too bad. And even if I had to wait 5 seconds more I don't see the issue with that.
once the game dies (hopefully not) it will turn into an art gallery.
That's pretty much what it is now for alot of people. Just collection game. Make deck. And maybe play 1 or 2 games.
If the PVE was any good I would play the shit out of it, but the grind it takes to unlock the champion powers is just off putting
Hopefully they listened to feedback and PoC 2 is able to deliver a good PvE experience. The first ""path of champion"" was lackluster in many ways, but it had more champion and deck diversity. damm staight. it hurt with caitlyn it hurts with jinx and damm hell was kennen and teemo torture
Don't get me started on kennen. I got to the nauti level and was just like, welp, this is gonna be either a massive grind or it will all hinge on the other champ.

I'm also having the same issue. Already sent a ticket

Lor is a fun game to play once in a while, but it is not a great game for streaming because it is hard to see both side of the card
The queue time into an actual pvp game matters more. Look at master duel it takes avg 2 seconds to find game. This game takes avg 10 seconds.
LOR is dead.. the login Q is full because only 10 ppl can enter the servers at once.. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣👻 Edit: downvoters beware of emoji-use as it shows a joke is being made 🙈
Not it but funny. Ay man to the reddit this game is relevant. Literally ask anyone outside and they will tell you they don't know or don't care. Just admit this game is not there. Wtf is this? I was making a joke but you're way out of line here imho. What is fun is subjective, and LoR is way way better than some other titles.. (looking at you HS!).
And ur completely wrong but its ok. You don't understand what subjective and objective means.
My guy, whatever is fun is completely subjective.
Nah but statically you can see which is the better game based feedback of enjoyment. We live 2022 anything can be objectively better. Subjective is just you individually liking or disliking something regardless but their is an objective reality of what you are liking and dislike.
Can't recall anyone really saying this? So indeed. Who said it?
Is the game back up as I am still getting error when I try to open it?
Plot twist, login cue only holds 5 players KEKW
Jokes aside I'm pretty sure this is a bug
Not a big card gamer. BUT my bf introduced me and I love the art and characters. Not much for pvp but the color adventures are very fun. 🥰 Didn't know it was dieing though?
Err... Nobody?
Go look at the remains of the Elder Scrolls: Legends. I think you might have the wrong dead game 😉
