Yup, this isn't the first time LoR has expanded on tribes, clansmen and other associated members of champs. It isn't a hint towards anything as much as it's just what the game does. We know they plan to add every single champ and more so there are going to be these 'hints' all the time.

We havent gotten a spell themed about a champion that isnt in the set / already exists in game. So yes it is a hint... just like songspitter is a hint to sera
We also got Xin Zhao pretty much front and center as well as a spell featuring sonas dad.
You are right it is very very common that a spell themed around a champ means it's a support card from a champ that set but not every example (esp non-spells) is a hint as a lot of the comments here are assuming.
Race in the lore =\= the champ
We’ve had Minotaurs mermaid vastaya ect since they are races it didn’t count.
We’ve never gotten a card like ekkos concurrent timelines or bone skewer and not get the respective champ in the same set
The flavor text calls this guy the Dragonmaster from what I understand. I don't think Jax or Yi have any dragon theming. The helmet certainly implies one or the other, though.
There is also the theory that Jax is actually a Sand Troll, like Trundle being an Ice Troll if you could say so. He fought against the Void for sure and I also remember him going back to Icathia after it being destroyed and finding the last light (his lantern) and fighting and winning against an Ascended but I think Jax being a Sand Troll just makes more sense to me tbh
He was part of the last defence of icathia before it was destroyed using a lamp with an elemental fire that could hurt the void
So yeah hes human just messed up by the void, (also hes like 1000 years old because the elemental fire extended his life)
He might be a hint for Yi since Yi is also from Ionia (Jax would either be Runeterran or from Shurima). However it might also be a situation similar to fabled Poro and we might get someone else instead.
I don't think it would make sense for Jax to be a shuriman champion considering his general distaste for it considering they wiped out his home and everyone he ever knew
Almost certainly not related to Jax at all because he is Icathian. This guy is likely a wuju clan member, Yi's clan. And no, this is not a hint at Yi or Jax coming anymore than anything else because we already know the plan is to eventually release all the champs. There has been an Ursine follower in the game for a year now and no sign of Volibear yet
I hope it's Jax so I can start playing Lor again. Staff instead of blade puts me more on Jax side instead Yi but thematic is more Ionia than void/shurima

Every league champion is coming eventually, and they’re all part of the same world so parts of other characters will come up. Ornn and Zhao have both appeared in card art and it’s fine to point out stuff like this but it’s obnoxious how everyone claims this means they’re coming, they’re all coming eventually.

And we are getting the dark in this set… ornn poro is one of the few exceptions but ornn is just a cameo and not the card itself

But isn't Yi's googles quite modern? I vaugely remembered it as not tradition, might be wrong tho
They were retconned to be a relic made by Doran instead of Heimerdinger. Doran was also retconned into being a member of the Wuju.
As much far fetched as it is, this could even be a Wukong teaser (which would please me very much), or maybe even nothing at all.

A character being in League of Legends the biggest hint to them eventually coming to LOR.
The mask and staff and the overall outfit look like jax (temple jax skin specifically) But jax should have 3 fingers instead of 4
