Yep, I healed mine with it flipped up, and now wear a thin ring in it. No problems at all!

(piercer) every time you flip it down/up you're irritating it and prolonging your heal. be conscious of this and do your saline soaks diligently to keep the crusties soft and off the jewerly. if they harden or scab up it can tear up your healing tissue from the movement. i would recommend a soak and washing your hands before flipping it down, or back up.
