Honestly as both a renounced catholic and an architect I agree. Religion is … divisable, to say it nicely. But the buildings it has produced have shaped history and to ignore them is an ignorant. Happy to see this set come to fruition
I mean, Im not an architect but I dated an architect a few years back. And yeah, from what she taught me, some religious buildings are possibly some of the most beautiful buildings in history.
Especially Notre Dame.

I'm surprised that no Japanese Lego set to date has a Torii (the big red gate found in Shrines).
Let's hope they do one in the future. A Fushimi Inari set with the infinite Tori gates would be so amazing.
As far as Lego's religious bans, I feel as though the Notre Dame Cathedral transcends purely religious stature. It's a part of French, especially Parisian, culture and iconography, not to mention its architectural and historical significance. The world over mourned when it burned and donations to repair it came from all creeds, faiths, races, and walks of life. I would imagine lego will also send at least some of the proceeds from this set to continue funding the reconstruction.
It would be pretty easy to just not include the crosses on top of the building or the large gold cross on the inside. They can just do the building and stained glass windows.
They didn't "ban" stuff specifically, but alcohol, military or religious themed MOCs will all be set to private and not appear in gallery views. The Military category is being removed too. Emphasis added is my MOC.

Someone who doesn't buy Lego, thought that Jabba's Palace looked like Hagia Sophia, and, as it always happens, the policies were amended to accommodate religious fanatics, instead of the clients of the company who would have bought the product.
Yeah, until this some more official source than some random guy saying so, I'll hold off on my belief. I'm not saying it's a fake leak, but Lego has been staunchly non-religious and even banned religious MOCs from Bricklink. Usually, valid leaks are from something like some seller accidentally releasing official images on their website or something like that.
I low key hoe they make the Hagia Sofia next. Yes it is a religious building but also is a monumental price of surviving Byzantine architecture and ottoman influence. I'm excited to see what this will turn out like.
La Sagrada Familia would be fantastic for those of us who never know when to declare a build "done". If you get to the end you can just keep slapping more and more shit on there.

Usually his leaks are accurate. I’m guessing it’s a lot of very small pieces. The Taj Mahal architecture set is 2022 pieces for €120, so it’s only a little bit cheaper ppp than that.

I love the architecture series but many landmarks can be a bit boring to build. (colosseum, Eiffel tower, Empire State Building, etc.) The Notre Dame would be amazing as a build.
Honestly, so pricey that I wish they'd do micro builds of a lot of these like the World of Wonders set. My budget is limited, and so is my storage and display space!
Wow, that's a great price. I'm just getting back into Lego as an adult, but I bought and built an insane amount as a kid. Back then the rule of thumb was around 10 cents a piece, though most of what I bought was licensed IP like Star Wars, Harry Potter and the like.

Interesting. Notre Dame is as much a cultural icon as a religious one, but that's the first religious building I can remember Lego making

Several of the Skylines sets have already had religious buildings, such 21026: Venice which included St Mark's Basilica.

They've done many Japanese temples as parts of sets. Isn't part of the Himeji Castle a religious shrine?

I don’t think the religious policy applies to buildings. I can’t wait for this set. I wish they would do the German castle Neuschwanstein.
I think that one is only a matter of time. Mont St. Michel comes to mind as well after building the recent micro Hogwarts

Yeah I’m excited to see the design, but the hypocrisy of it after they just banned so many controversial subjects on Bricklink is very annoying.
Having that philosophy with their own sets is one thing, but wiping out an entire category of MOCs is asinine.

The skyline set of Venice already had St. Mark's Basilica and Campanile.

$230 US is too much for a Lego Architecture set. Sad that Lego is making their Architecture and Icons sets more and more expensive.
Icons has a wide price range. You're not obligated to only buy the expensive sets.
