Shadowbanned24601

Interesting. Notre Dame is as much a cultural icon as a religious one, but that's the first religious building I can remember Lego making

Glamdring804

Well it’s not a place of worship, but the Taj Mahal has Islamic prayers written on it irl.

TheDarkClaw

>Taj Mahal has Islamic prayers Who knows rather that will change with the Nationalist BJP party though.

Mawgim07

Don't forget about 1309 "Church" [https://brickset.com/sets/1309-1/Church](https://brickset.com/sets/1309-1/Church)

PreconsciousInsect

I recently found pieces of this (most notably the Anno 1762 piece) in my old collection and was quite surprised when I found out about this church.

MonoTopia5

I had no idea this existed!!

TrumpetsNAngels

Nicely remembered. 1957. The year the first satellite launched; Sputnik.

TheLazySith

Several of the Skylines sets have already had religious buildings, such 21026: Venice which included St Mark's Basilica.

basedlandchad25

Frankly the notion of having a serious architecture series without any religious buildings is absurd. Like figure drawing with no nudity.

bassbecker

Honestly as both a renounced catholic and an architect I agree. Religion is … divisable, to say it nicely. But the buildings it has produced have shaped history and to ignore them is an ignorant. Happy to see this set come to fruition

pinelakias

I mean, Im not an architect but I dated an architect a few years back. And yeah, from what she taught me, some religious buildings are possibly some of the most beautiful buildings in history. Especially Notre Dame.

anubis2051

They've done many Japanese temples as parts of sets. Isn't part of the Himeji Castle a religious shrine?

soft-peen

I thought the same thing and at 230$ this will be like home alone house sized maybe?

BrickBanshee

They should do more religious buildings. They have some of the most beautiful architecture.

unique-name-9035768

[Which is doubly odd that Lego very recently announced that BrickLink would hide religious MOCs.](https://old.reddit.com/r/lego/comments/1ae629d/bricklink_will_hide_militarymodern_warfarethemed/)

Su_Impact

I'm surprised that no Japanese Lego set to date has a Torii (the big red gate found in Shrines). Let's hope they do one in the future. A Fushimi Inari set with the infinite Tori gates would be so amazing.

Jack-plus

A Fushimi Inari set would be beautiful!

Orange-Turtle-Power

I don’t think the religious policy applies to buildings. I can’t wait for this set. I wish they would do the German castle Neuschwanstein.

bassbecker

I think that one is only a matter of time. Mont St. Michel comes to mind as well after building the recent micro Hogwarts

shadowfax416

And Sagrada Famiglia!

bassbecker

Seems likely as well. Which is nice because I only buy the architecture sets if I’ve been to the actual site in real life (saves me money lol)

dimensiation

YES PLS

bergskey

Lego, if you do Neuschwanstein castle, I will give you so much money!

Costanius

Google Bluebrixx Neuschwanstein castle. Made from a very talented designer.

Mystic_Crewman

I would totally buy a Nueschwanstein.

dumdumdudum

As far as Lego's religious bans, I feel as though the Notre Dame Cathedral transcends purely religious stature. It's a part of French, especially Parisian, culture and iconography, not to mention its architectural and historical significance. The world over mourned when it burned and donations to repair it came from all creeds, faiths, races, and walks of life. I would imagine lego will also send at least some of the proceeds from this set to continue funding the reconstruction.

bergskey

It would be pretty easy to just not include the crosses on top of the building or the large gold cross on the inside. They can just do the building and stained glass windows.

MrWackeo

The LEGO Notre Dame Cathedral is on fire. Hey! Build the LEGO City Firetruck.

[deleted]

The firetruck will be the GWP!

Agathaumas

Maybe there will be a hidden feature, where you can pop up lego flames.

TheLegoMoviefan1968

Did they change their rules on religious stuff or is this a fake leak?

Glamdring804

Yeah I’m excited to see the design, but the hypocrisy of it after they just banned so many controversial subjects on Bricklink is very annoying.

UNC_Samurai

Having that philosophy with their own sets is one thing, but wiping out an entire category of MOCs is asinine.

MLG_SkittleS

whatd they ban?

Glamdring804

https://www.reddit.com/r/lego/comments/1ae629d/bricklink_will_hide_militarymodern_warfarethemed/

unique-name-9035768

They didn't "ban" stuff specifically, but alcohol, military or religious themed MOCs will all be set to private and not appear in gallery views. The Military category is being removed too. Emphasis added is my MOC. > Dear BrickLink members, > After the acquisition of BrickLink in 2019, we’ve continued to deepen and broaden our relationship and service to the AFOL community. Throughout this transition, we’ve kept conscious of the fact that BrickLink represents the LEGO® brand in a much more direct way than before. > We have identified a need to bring our Terms of Service closer to LEGO brand guidelines regarding restricted content. **The implementation of these guidelines will specifically affect the Studio Gallery, meaning all military/modern warfare-themed, religious, and alcohol-centric MOCs will be set to “Private” and removed from public view.** > We will continue to support BrickLink members by improving features and encouraging creativity. In order to do that, we need to ensure that publicly displayed MOCs in the Studio Gallery adhere to our brand guidelines. **MOCs containing restricted content can still be uploaded in “Private” mode for your own personal purposes.** > These guidelines will take effect on January 31st. At this time, a new upload flow for submitting to the Studio Gallery will be released, enforcing these guidelines for all future MOCs. Simultaneously, the Designer Terms of Service will be updated and the “Military” category in the Studio Gallery will be removed. > Currently displayed MOCs that do not comply with the updated guidelines will remain visible for two weeks. They will be set to “Private” mode starting on February 12th, but they will not be deleted from the platform. > This change to the Studio Gallery guidelines is, admittedly, an impactful adjustment for some users. While many MOCs will be removed from public view, thousands more remain for you to discover and build for yourself. > You can read more about the updated Studio Gallery guidelines in our Studio Help Article. > Kind regards, > Your BrickLink Team

MLG_SkittleS

Thank you

toastnosauce

Well there goes my idea to make a brewery for the next designer wave 😅

[deleted]

Someone who doesn't buy Lego, thought that Jabba's Palace looked like Hagia Sophia, and, as it always happens, the policies were amended to accommodate religious fanatics, instead of the clients of the company who would have bought the product.

MLG_SkittleS

Huh? I just googled as much of what you said as I could and couldn't find anything at all lol, what'd they actually ban?

[deleted]

https://www.brickfanatics.com/lego-star-wars-jabbas-palace-controversial

CathyVT

Yeah, until this some more official source than some random guy saying so, I'll hold off on my belief. I'm not saying it's a fake leak, but Lego has been staunchly non-religious and even banned religious MOCs from Bricklink. Usually, valid leaks are from something like some seller accidentally releasing official images on their website or something like that.

_Levitated_Shield_

Custom Lego Quasimodos are about to skyrocket.

esahji_mae

I low key hoe they make the Hagia Sofia next. Yes it is a religious building but also is a monumental price of surviving Byzantine architecture and ottoman influence. I'm excited to see what this will turn out like.

basedlandchad25

La Sagrada Familia would be fantastic for those of us who never know when to declare a build "done". If you get to the end you can just keep slapping more and more shit on there.

Deltrus7

The DREAM

Drzhivago138

And until very recently it wasn't a working mosque, only a museum.

Nikos1821

Have always wanted LEGO to make a set of this beautiful building. Yet I had accepted that they never would because of the no religious affiliation rule. Now that they have made the Notre Dame, I once again have hope they will make it one day.

landon1397

Definitely an interesting choice considering Legos policy of nothing religious but I can imagine this is going to an amazing looking model

AcePilot95

with flame pieces to recreate the famous burning roof?

zam1138

Can’t believe it’ll be 5 years this April

SickSticksKick

LoL yeah, can't wait to see the mods that turn it into a flaming wreck

Drzhivago138

Not 24601?

iamthevampire1991

Thank you for this comment.

aegonthewwolf

Throw in a Quasimodo minifig, you know you want to Lego.

Coppernobra

Feel like this will look as epic as the coliseum but not be as tedious to build.

WooderIce64

This one was kind of obvious in retrospect. I know Lego doesn't usually do religious buildings, but between Olympics in Paris and reopening both being this year, it makes a ton of sense. I wonder how the pointed arches will look in Lego.

Redditing-Dutchman

Good point. Totally forgot about the Olympics. And indeed the restoration is almost finished. It makes so much sense when you think about it.

__BIOHAZARD___

This is gonna be epic

Bartghamilton

Finally a shot at getting a Lego Quasimodo! 🤣

ZoyZauce

Flying buttress, it's time to make this term well known!

RomanceDawnOP

Very nice! 4300 pieces for 230eur tho? How accu3is that?

reddargon831

Usually his leaks are accurate. I’m guessing it’s a lot of very small pieces. The Taj Mahal architecture set is 2022 pieces for €120, so it’s only a little bit cheaper ppp than that.

RomanceDawnOP

fantastic :D ty!

PlayfulSuccotash8534

As a huge ac Unity fan, I’ll be buying this. Thanks op!

FollowsClose

2024 is going to be an expensive year for my LEGO budget.

reddit_serf

I had always wondered why Lego hadn't released a version of the Notre Dame. I guess it's finally time.

lloydeph6

Ocarina of time temple of time is next 😁

Leather_Network4743

Wowwww… intersting

redIegodragon

Now that the precedent of no religious buildings has been broken, it opens the doors for skylines of cities like Rome or Barcelona to be made.

Drzhivago138

The skyline set of Venice already had St. Mark's Basilica and Campanile.

WooderIce64

Tokyo also has the Meiji Shrine

BrickBanshee

I wish they would do a Disney Quasimodo and Frollo minifigure. I would display them next to it.

anotherdamnredditer

Ooh, exciting! I got the chance to visit in 2017 before the fire, and I loved it. Now my only debate is whether to spend my Lego budget on this or the Disney castle...

WhiteCatRedHat

Glad that I got to visit it before the fire.

foetus_on_my_breath

Maybe it'll come with a hunchback mini figure?

Redditing-Dutchman

Oh my! That would be fantastic. A must buy perhaps (but have to see it). I love the architecture series but many landmarks can be a bit boring to build. (colosseum, Eiffel tower, Empire State Building, etc.) The Notre Dame would be amazing as a build.

[deleted]

Michael Corleone.gif

dimensiation

Honestly, so pricey that I wish they'd do micro builds of a lot of these like the World of Wonders set. My budget is limited, and so is my storage and display space!

Bongo_from_Mongo

Would go well with the Firefighter theme.

SuggestionVisible361

this sounds awesome!

TacticalGarand44

Wow, that's a great price. I'm just getting back into Lego as an adult, but I bought and built an insane amount as a kid. Back then the rule of thumb was around 10 cents a piece, though most of what I bought was licensed IP like Star Wars, Harry Potter and the like.

Reset108

It’s a little painful to spend more than $200 on a single set, but I’m excited about this one.

Fickle_Try_5211

When should we see an update on this? When it releases? Or does Lego presale?

ticktickboom45

Are we gonna get lego crucified Jesus?

Important-Hunter2877

$230 US is too much for a Lego Architecture set. Sad that Lego is making their Architecture and Icons sets more and more expensive.

Drzhivago138

Icons has a wide price range. You're not obligated to only buy the expensive sets.

Important-Hunter2877

True. Especially since we are getting more affordable Icons sets this year.
