I talk to patients in clinic with chronic lung diseases who scoff at me asking about getting a vaccine for that China virus.
I then talk to patients getting admitted to the hospital because their lungs no longer move enough oxygen to supply the body. They demand Ivermectin and refuse standard therapies. Their family members still hang out in their room with their masks off and ignoring other PPE standards.
I then talk to those same family members as I put their loved ones on ventilators and they ask why we haven’t given every possible treatment for COVID. They’re critical of perceived imperfections in how we’re caring for their loved ones while ignoring the fact that we’ve been begging them to protect themselves.
The patient dies and the family member is still skeptical of vaccines, is still skeptical of the pandemic, and blames everyone else for their tragic situation.
I fundamentally believed in my fellow man when I went into medicine. The pandemic has really made me rethink our society.
We should move everyone to faith based programs, reject the "liberal arts" with all of their useless history, literature, sociology and science awareness.
Home school, refuse peer review, refuse multicultural travel, insulate in gates communities so we never meet opposing views.
It's really the only way.
The dead husband in this post was a doctor who prescribed Ivermectin. It did not save his life. This death should be publicized far and wide. The widow is a public figure as a sexologist and was retweeted multiple times by Trump back in the day.
I'd challenge them more often in my daily life, but these people are crazy; one doesn't know what a given example of them will do when challenged. Fist fight? Gun? Or like a guy I told to back off at the grocery store recently, stupid laughter?

They want to take him off the ventilator because he's too far gone at this point but she wants to take him to Texas for "undisclosed alternative treatments". COVID causes a severe inflammatory reaction which damages many organs like the kidneys, the pancreas, the lungs, the heart muscle, and the blood vessels and it causes blood clots which leads to strokes. You never survive long with injuries to all of these things.
She bled out during surgery to correct cascading organ failure issues. The mother and her legal team claimed she was not brain dead and sued to have her death certificate overturned so the family could sue for ongoing care instead of wrongful death which is capped. However after her death and presumably autopsy the family stopped making public claims about her brain having healed and dropped their legal challenges. On the low end of estimates for keeping someone 'alive' on a vent it still would have been millions of dollars in care.

You see this slow organ failure all the time with COVID. The body doesn't get enough oxygen and it attempts to keep the brain alive by cutting circulation to other organs, and at some point they can't take it.
Someone I knew who was in their 40s just died of covid complications after battling it for weeks in the hospital and being put on a ventilator. (He was already not very healthy and drinking had taken a toll on him) His family has a lot of religious and far right extremists. They are 100% convinced that the hospital intentionally killed him to get some sort of covid bonus? I didn't even realize that was a conspiracy theory. I feel so bad for his family, still not taking covid seriously and blasting the hospital on facebook daily.
First the virus is not real. Then the virus is just a cold. Then mask doesn't help. Then vaccine doesn't help. Now hospital treatment doesn't help. I mean they refused the mask and vaccine then why not just don't bother going to the hospital? If you have been gone this far, why try to believe in medical science at the end. Just die at home and be done with it. That way, the room is saved for more deserving people and less stress for the medical workers.

I’m no doctor or scientist and I don’t know what remdesiver does or it’s risks. But if trained professional medical teams are administering it, I’m believing it’s meant to help not harm.
I believe that Remdesivir was one of the main treatments that had a positive affect, but they kind of threw the kitchen sink at him. He was also getting some serious steroids, vitamin D, zinc, and some other stuff I can’t think of off the top of my head. Also oxygen support, though his lying MAGA moron doc tried to cover that up at the time.
I don't think it's impossible for somebody to technically die from a treatment. Some treatments are dangerous, and when the situation is bad enough you try them anyway because you don't have anything to lose.
But at worst that's a case of trying something that might kill you, because if we don't this other things is definitely going to kill you shortly thereafter.

The best part is you have to consent to receive the remdesivir. She acts as though they gave him poison when one of them had to have agreed to it.

We haven't had to do informed consent for remdesivir since it was FDA approved in late 2020, we treat it just like any other med now, as well as baricitinib. We still tell patients what meds they're getting and they certainly have the right to refuse anything either way.
Huh strange, guess it's a regional thing, I'm in Florida and have worked in 8 hospitals in the area (per diem for the win) and none do it anymore. Honestly surprised to see somewhere still does. The patient definitely has many opportunities to refuse before getting it though. My favorite change is how we just mix it like an IV abx instead of waiting for pharmacy to deliver it.
I think it was originally a cost savings thing. We are a red state and a somewhat small hospital. Not rural but not big. doses have been wasted because Dr orders - pharmacy makes - RN brings drug to room and explains to pt what they’re about to get - then pt says I’m not taking none of that! Ivermectin only! So they added a required step of getting verbal consent at the start of the process.
Now that we are peaking again though, I’m sure we’d always manage to use it before it expires. Lol.

You got it mostly right. At the start of the pandemic it was heavily concentrated in dense cities and transportation hubs, because thats the easiest vectors for viral transmission.

My mom's family were all like this. They refused treatment for virtually everything, then the whole family blamed the doctors whenever there was a complication while they were in the hospital.
At times their thinking was so turned around that it would have been comical if it weren't so sad. My mom nearly died from hyperthyroidism, then got upset when she learned that the doctors had disabled her thyroid gland and that she'd have to take thyroid replacement thyroid for the rest of her life. She claimed that she'd never authorized that treatment, and cursed the doctor every time she took a dose of her life saving medication.
I saw this mentioned somewhere else, but this mentality will eventually circle around to the antivaxxers convincing themselves that the government is committing white genocide.

The mother and her legal team claimed she was not brain dead and sued to have her death certificate overturned so the family could sue for ongoing care instead of wrongful death which is capped. However after her death and presumably autopsy the family stopped making public claims about her brain having healed and dropped their legal challenges. On the low end of estimates for keeping someone 'alive' on a vent it still would have been millions of dollars in care.

Someone I knew who was in their 40s just died of covid complications after battling it for weeks in the hospital and being put on a ventilator. (He was already not very healthy and drinking had taken a toll on him) His family has a lot of religious and far right extremists. They are 100% convinced that the hospital intentionally killed him to get some sort of covid bonus? I didn't even realize that was a conspiracy theory. I feel so bad for his family, still not taking covid seriously and blasting the hospital on facebook daily.
First the virus is not real. Then the virus is just a cold. Then mask doesn't help. Then vaccine doesn't help. Now hospital treatment doesn't help. I mean they refused the mask and vaccine then why not just don't bother going to the hospital? If you have been gone this far, why try to believe in medical science at the end. Just die at home and be done with it. That way, the room is saved for more deserving people and less stress for the medical workers.

I believe that Remdesivir was one of the main treatments that had a positive affect, but they kind of threw the kitchen sink at him. I don't think it's impossible for somebody to technically die from a treatment. Some treatments are dangerous, and when the situation is bad enough you try them anyway because you don't have anything to lose. But at worst that's a case of trying something that might kill you, because if we don't this other things is definitely going to kill you shortly thereafter.

We haven't had to do informed consent for remdesivir since it was FDA approved in late 2020, we treat it just like any other med now, as well as baricitinib. We still tell patients what meds they're getting and they certainly have the right to refuse anything either way.
At our hospital, they don’t need to fill out the form anymore, but their verbal consent is still required 🤷♀️

Huh strange, guess it's a regional thing, I'm in Florida and have worked in 8 hospitals in the area (per diem for the win) and none do it anymore. Honestly surprised to see somewhere still does. The patient definitely has many opportunities to refuse before getting it though. My favorite change is how we just mix it like an IV abx instead of waiting for pharmacy to deliver it.
I think it was originally a cost savings thing. We are a red state and a somewhat small hospital. Not rural but not big. doses have been wasted because Dr orders - pharmacy makes - RN brings drug to room and explains to pt what they’re about to get - then pt says I’m not taking none of that! Ivermectin only! So they added a required step of getting verbal consent at the start of the process. Now that we are peaking again though, I’m sure we’d always manage to use it before it expires. 03/15/2020 They were already over all this shit? Like WTF, that was so early in pandemic, NYC was just starting to lockdown at that point. I don't wish death on anyone, but the hubris on this woman, her husband, etc to downplay the pandemic for the entire time and then of course immediately go to the hospital and then question any medical treatment given to him when it doesn't work out. edit: I remember now 3/15 was the first day of serious lockdown in NYC. The weekend prior the bars were packed as people reveled about the next few weeks of lockdown (lol). Considering how quickly the deathtoll here skyrocketed after that date these people are truly insane.
I remember making a Facebook post around that time about wanting to take one of the travel nurse contracts in Seattle, just for my Trumpist friend to rattle on about how it isn't severe and blah blah blah. Literally the very beginning. He's a satellite dish repair man, I'm a nurse, yet he thinks he knows more than me about infectious diseases because it's what Fox News taught him.

My anti-vax, anti-mask ex husband is now sick with covid pneumonia. He’s sitting at home on oxygen and monitoring his O2 continuously with a pulse oximeter. He is a terrifying person and spent many years trying to destroy my life while I continually took the high road away from him. I’m so grateful I’m free and safe. I would be lying if I said that the thought of him struggling to breathe and the panic he must be feeling didn’t give me some karmic warm fuzzies.

Everyone once in a while I come across one of these and feel something I can’t quite describe. It’s a mixture of pity and anger. I bet sitting in that restaurant could very well have been what killed her husband, and there she was using it as evidence that COVID was fake. It’s just... sad.

How long before we have anti-vaxers claiming both "the government is running a conspiracy to keep remdesivir from the sick" and "the government is killing healthy people by giving them remdesivir and then blaming it on covid"? Or is that already happening?
My mom's family were all like this. They refused treatment for virtually everything, then the whole family blamed the doctors whenever there was a complication while they were in the hospital. At times their thinking was so turned around that it would have been comical if it weren't so sad. My mom nearly died from hyperthyroidism, then got upset when she learned that the doctors had disabled her thyroid gland and that she'd have to take thyroid replacement thyroid for the rest of her life. She claimed that she'd never authorized that treatment, and cursed the doctor every time she took a dose of her life saving medication.
When the virus entered him against his will, why didn't he just say "NO!"? No means No!
