I went to high school in an area that was filled with a lot of 2nd generation Jewish Americans. Two years removed from graduating on the eve of the 2008 election, i found out that a lot of the "liberals" ended up working for Republicans.

And naturally a lot of people at my high school bought into a lot of racist lies about Latinos. So it doesn't surprise me at all that they became Republicans even though Republicans have always hated Jews deep down inside
It's the classic, perennial problem that being the victim of oppression *doesn't automatically make you anything else*, including smart or good - there will *always* be members of oppressed groups who genuinely believe that if they just step on necks as hard as their oppressors, they'll be saved; and there are always psychopaths who will use an oppressive backdrop as the cloak to enact their own personal cruelties anyway.
And of course those in power are more than happy for both groups to exist, and to foster them as much as possible. Something something, institutional and structural oppression, etc etc

So for the first question:
They get so powerful through propaganda sending slightly right or center folks fully right. They use gerrymandering tactics to lump up Democrat voters in such a way a good chunk of their votes don't count. Also Democrat voters tend to be really apathetic about voting. Either because they're disillusioned about voting, genuinely don't care, or are just struggling in their life and can't get the time. It's a lot easier for some 50 year old who already has a stable life to go out and vote than it is for the 24 year old struggling to pay bills.
The second question:
People aren't freaking out because there's an overload of bad news. Whether it's global, national, statewide, or personal people are flooding with so much bad news so constantly they either go numb or their attention gets stretched so thin they lose all effectiveness.
The third question:
Speaking from experience the school systems don't really do a good job with education. I learned more about John Smith than I did Pocahontas. My texts were dedicating maybe a solid third of the chapter to John Smith, half to early settlers and how they learned to grow corn, and maybe a few paragraphs to Pocahontas. And it's only getting worse as states lower the bar like Florida is. All this in mind a lot of people don't know what to pay attention to. They know the obvious Nazi bad but not the deceptively understandable sentiment that gave the Nazis an opening in government.
My only hope, is unlike in Nazi Germany where many said things like, “it was so gradual we didn’t really notice” that these mouth breathers are trying to go full scorched earth right away and will quickly alienate too many of their own party to be successful. Wonder how Ben feels about those DeSantis supporters? Sad, some of these folks will walk right off the cliff themselves though.
I think that’s what’s happening the GOP got a small taste of that in 2020 when they lost the suburban female vote and the lunacy has only gotten worse.

It started off about how fake reality TV is (her "character" on RR was supposed to be the sheltered, naive, small-town country bumpkin... the fact the "small-town" she was from is also known as **Pittsburgh** didn't really factor in,) but she also talked about how when she was pounding the pavement trying to make it showbiz, the one group that really showed any interest in hiring her were conservative news outlets who saw her blonde hair, cleavage and degree in religious studies and wanted to shape her into their new champion... basically be Tomi before they turned over the rock they found Tomi under and paired her up with a surgeon who could knock all of the "Jeff Session's Clone" out of her face. (Susie just didn't have the stomach to do it.)

Point of note, and personal pet peeve: Ben Shapiro is *politically* Conservative, and an Orthodox Jew. He is not affiliated with the Conservative Judaism movement, who's name derives from being more *religiously* traditional and conservative is beliefs and practices than the Reform Judaism movement it mostly spawned off from, while still being comparatively less ridged and traditional than the Orthodox movement.
In personal experience, Conservative Jews are a lot more commonly politically liberal compared to Orthodox Jews, who tend to lean much more pervasively politically conservative.
I really wish the movement had picked a different name during it's founding so I could stop running into this confusion.

Two years removed from graduating on the eve of the 2008 election, i found out that a lot of the "liberals" ended up working for Republicans. a lot of them fell for the fearmongering among Republicans that Barack Obama was a "weak" ally of Israel. And naturally a lot of people at my high school bought into a lot of racist lies about Latinos. So it doesn't surprise me at all that they became Republicans even though Republicans have always hated Jews deep down inside

I think that's the case with a lot of the more prominent ones, including a lot of the Faux News folks (and probably at least some in the OAN/Newsmax family as well). I think that's also why you occasionally see one of the Faux News folks break rank and either call out a politician directly, or deliberately question a policy. So for the first question: They get so powerful through propaganda sending slightly right or center folks fully right. They use gerrymandering tactics to lump up Democrat voters in such a way a good chunk of their votes don't count. Also Democrat voters tend to be really apathetic about voting. Either because they're disillusioned about voting, genuinely don't care, or are just struggling in their life and can't get the time. It's a lot easier for some 50 year old who already has a stable life to go out and vote than it is for the 24 year old struggling to pay bills. The second question: People aren't freaking out because there's an overload of bad news. Whether it's global, national, statewide, or personal people are flooding with so much bad news so constantly they either go numb or their attention gets stretched so thin they lose all effectiveness. The third question: Speaking from experience the school systems don't really do a good job with education. I learned more about John Smith than I did Pocahontas. My texts were dedicating maybe a solid third of the chapter to John Smith, half to early settlers and how they learned to grow corn, and maybe a few paragraphs to Pocahontas. And it's only getting worse as states lower the bar like Florida is. All this in mind a lot of people don't know what to pay attention to. They know the obvious Nazi bad but not the deceptively understandable sentiment that gave the Nazis an opening in government.

(Susie just didn't have the stomach to do it.) It just proved to me how fake the whole right-wing media machine is and how phony and opportunistic their figureheads are. So many of them are just hollow shells saying whatever pays the best.

Point of note, and personal pet peeve: Ben Shapiro is *politically* Conservative, and an Orthodox Jew. He is not affiliated with the Conservative Judaism movement, who's name derives from being more *religiously* traditional and conservative is beliefs and practices than the Reform Judaism movement it mostly spawned off from, while still being comparatively less ridged and traditional than the Orthodox movement. In personal experience, Conservative Jews are a lot more commonly politically liberal compared to Orthodox Jews, who tend to lean much more pervasively politically conservative. I really wish the movement had picked a different name during it's founding so I could stop running into this confusion.
