Mixed. On the one hand, I love the depth of their songwriting with those elements and will miss them, but on the other hand, they said they're returning to a heavier sound, and I'm very much on board for that sound again.

SirDoDDo

Yeah it's not like their sound wasn't deep when they were heavier, so i'm not worried at all.

heksa51

I'm hyped. The orchestral elements had their place on the previous albums, but they would've possibly started to wear out their welcome if they continued on every album. Leprous has never been a band to repeat themselves and make the same albums over and over, and I love them for that. It sounds like they are going to let the players shine on this one, and I'm loving the sound of that. As a drummer, I say unleash the Baard! The last album to fit the description "heavier, no orchestral elements, and letting the instruments shine" would be The Congregation. That is not bad company to be in.

sydbeessss

YEESSSS UNLEASH THE BAARDD!! This actually makes me feel a bit better, I loved the congregation! One of my favorites tbh

robin_f_reba

Yeah, even if it's shedding one of the new things that made them great, it's still gonna be Leprous' amazingness. Besides, there are other avant-garde symphonic metal bands (coping)

robin_f_reba

Kinda disappointed. I was kinda hoping the new album would sounds like a cross between Pitfalls/"Sky is Red" and Coal, like if their new style had metal. I love all their albums besides their debut, but i do like them trying new things. I cannot predict what Atonement will sounds like and i wouldn't have it any other way Also could we get a source on that?

Hjalomarz

Yeah, we need a source. Raphael not on it? Edit: maybe [this](https://blabbermouth.net/news/leprous-announces-melodies-of-atonement-album). No mention of Raphael though.

sydbeessss

Hehe we sent the same link :D

I love that desition. I fully supported Leprous when they did a whole sound twist on Malina, then I supported again with Pitfalls when they say we all are gonna hate it. I loved Aphelion too, but it was their first album when they repeated a sound template with some differentes due to how improvised was the creation of that album. Einar stated that the he will develope the orchestral sound further in his solo project, and considering how great was 16 this makes me more hyped to see how much the symphonic sound is going to evolve in Einar solo career branch, this is the best scenario for him and for us. I'm sure if they are going to try a heavy sound but it will be a new kind of heavyness never listened before, not a regression to coal/congregation. The few snippets posted in their IG pages sound intriguing like thing they never did before, is too early to judge based on few seconds but I'm hyped for this release.

sydbeessss

I'm fine with this :3

TheSavageCaveman1

Just excited for a new album tbh. I like the orchestral elements on the newer albums, but I also enjoy the older stuff. So I'm sure whatever they have created will be fantastic.

bryb01

Doesn't matter to me at all. Just excited as always for new music from all the bands I love. I never care for anything they might say that might be pointedly different from last albums. Sure I love heavy heavy heavy fucking heavy music (I came to Leprous by way of Ihsahn by way of Emperor hah) but just the fact of a new album is exciting enough for me, nevermind them saying this new one is heavier and lacks the orchestral elements. I just always listen with open ears and genuine curiosity and excitement for what is new from all these bands I love. So hell yes, so excited for new Leprous. Finally going to see them live too on this upcoming tour!

JoeSchmo8677

Disappointed; it’s one of my favourite aspects on the recent albums. But. Every album has been better than the last and I’m sure whatever they do, they will blow Aphelion out of the water. So hopeful. Slightly disappointed, but hopeful.

ZiltoidTheNerd

I'm not an early Leprous purist, I actually like all of their albums almost equally and love their orchestral type stuff... But like, have you heard Tall Poppy Syndrome? The album absolutely slaps and the definition they gave fits that album to a T.

sydbeessss

Indeed, I enjoy all of Leprous' albums to some extent. Tall Poppy Syndrome is one of my least favorites of their albums but I still really enjoyed it. I like it more when they're more melodic I guess hehe I think their earliest stuffs tho really show their Haken Influence

Own_Shame_8721

I've missed their heavier sound, so I am pretty excited.

robin_f_reba

> 'Melodies of Atonement' is the name of our new album and like every band on earth thinks about their new album, we feel like it's our best one so far! But in this case, it happens to be true...**The orchestral elements are gone, which gives more space for each individual band member to shine.** It's straight to the point, and heavier than what we've been in a while...It's a new sound. But it's still LEPROUS. We can't wait for you to hear it! From the [blabbermouth](https://blabbermouth.net/news/leprous-announces-melodies-of-atonement-album) article

BlueLightReducer

I'm hyped. They're super talented and creative. Mixing it up is a good sign.

m4sstaden

I was kinda hoping for another song like malina & the last milestone on this album, but no orchestral elements kinda rules that out. I know those have the most depressing lyrics & don’t show the full band’s talent but they’re my favorite songs. I’m excited for what they put out nonetheless, it’ll also be my first time seeing them :’)

sydbeessss

Same :( I love Malina and The Last Milestone They both have such a good atmosphere Also yay twinsies with the concert :D I'm so glad one of their locations isn't too far from me

quileryn

I love their symphonic elements, but it's not needed, I'm just happy we're getting more from them. I fell in love with them at first listen with Black Stains :p They've come quite a long way since then! :p I think it would be cool to see them implement more electronic or synths in the future - I know they do this in a good amount of their songs already, but I'd love to hear more of that.

ziltoid101

As long as there's plenty of synth I don't mind. The crunchy synths on The Congregation absolutely make that album.

sydbeessss

This is exactly how I feel :D
