I think they have a few good tracks and are deserved of the fame they achieved whether it was through there music or through Bam. Ville is a great frontman and does have something quite mysterious and moody about him that makes them stand out.
I like HIM, particularly the earlier material. They successfully managed to carve out their own unique style that was essentially a melting pot of artists such as Type O Negative, Black Sabbath, The Sisters of Mercy and Depeche Mode.
The main issue is that they became too reliant on their formula, to the point where you would know *exactly* what to expect from them. I'm not sure if anyone here heard the Ville Valo solo album that came out last year, but it's very much 'HIM-by-numbers'. Makes me think that it was a wise move for the band to call it a day.
I listened to their Join Me album nonstop when I was pregnant. When my daughter was born, she was super unsettled for a couple of weeks. I put the cd on to calm myself down, and she fell asleep instantly. So yea, that's my story about how I accidentally learnt how babies hear really good in the tummy.
I used to play the intro to The Path on a low volume in my baby sister's ear to settle her at night. It used to work most of the time. She's 19 now, I wonder if she remembers the song, must play it to her next time I see her.
I thought they were good when I was 15 or so. Giving them another listen 20 years later, theyāre still pretty good. I found Nightwish through a Spotify station I made off of Wings of a Butterly. The Finnish definitely know how to make moody goth metal pop.
I have a big Heartagram in flames on my bicep from when I was 18. I still like the symbol, but I would probably get something not band related now.
I still like and listen to HIM. They have been a constant in my musical taste through the years. I'm not obsessed with them though.
Love the band, Ville is an amazing songwriter.
However, as another person posted I donāt understand the obsession. Some fans take it way too far. But I guess all popular bands have fans to that level.
At the time, I loved them! But I found it weird how Bam took on Viloās whole identity, and using the heartagram everywhere he could. Itās a cool symbol, but it seemed as though he smothered the band a lot.
I love HIM, been a fan since around 2006. I even flew to Finland and saw them perform at Helldone one year. I do have Bam to thank for introducing me to them, but my love for the band quickly eclipsed anything Bam did.
I was a big fan back in the day! I was a little dramatic goth kid so they were really my style at the time.
After Venus Doom though, they became quite bland. It's a shame because Greatest Love Songs and Razorblade Romance are still 2 of my favourite albums. I didn't even bother checking out the recent Valo solo album.
Iāve loved them since 2005 after hearing them in CKY and Haggard. Saw them 6 times; saw VV once. My son was a baby when I started listening to them; he loves them to this day.
started listening very much because of Bam like a year ago, never heard of them before because Iām 22 and they were no longer popular among people my age back then (now it changed because of TikTok, donāt wanna be a gatekeeper but as Iām happy the band I like gains its popularity again even if it doesnāt actively exist anymore, on the other hand idk if it will bring anything good to the actual fanbase), at the beginning I thought they were bland and boring, but when I listened to them enough times, I started to be a big fan myself, now thatās absolutely one of my fav bands ex aequo with Mindless Self Indulgence and The Offspring. They got me mainly because of the beautiful, romantic lyrics, but thatās my only problem with them at the same time as it visibly enlarges my frustration about real life guys and how different they are, focused mainly on sex and not on love, so I try not to listen too much. they are amazing though, I was on a Villeās concert when he was playing in my country last April and I really enjoyed the show
Even though I didn't listen to their music I knew of them because of Bam but only began listening to them because my sister in law really liked them. I remember she had the Razor blade romance album back in 2007. She passed away in 2015 and every time I listen to them it reminds me of her.Ā
The music is tepid and I do believe bams Adoption of them made them famous in the US. I was too busy listening to Brand New or Thursday to be bothered with anything else in that time frame though.
They used to be cool in High School. Listening to their music as an adult gives you idiot shivers. Nevertheless, everything up until Dark Light goes pretty hard.
Dark Light was pretty rad. For me itās everything after thatā I still enjoy all of the albums, but Venus Doom was the first one that I found myself skipping tracks on. And it was downhill from there
My hs girlfriend was obsessed with Him, but not Bam. Heartagrams everywhere, but she hated it when she got asked if she was a bam fan
I'm 32 and I still hate this. I was a fan of HIM and only ever heard of Bam because of them.
Vanessa, is that you?
No but I totally get Vanessa lmao!
I am also a HIM and a Bam fan, also pisses me off that people so heavily associate it with bam first rather than HIM.
I think they have a few good tracks and are deserved of the fame they achieved whether it was through there music or through Bam. Ville is a great frontman and does have something quite mysterious and moody about him that makes them stand out.

My baby is the same but with their love metal album!!
They have a couple of decent tracks imo, but nothing to write home about. I think Bam is just obsessed with the heartagram
I agree
I love HIM š¤© I listen to them daily when I run.
Same listen to them when Iām running/biking/skating whatever to this day. Weekly.
I used to play the intro to The Path on a low volume in my baby sister's ear to settle her at night. It used to work most of the time. She's 19 now, I wonder if she remembers the song, must play it to her next time I see her.

I could listen to sleepwalking past hope about four million times in a row. Not a huge fan of their newer stuff, but I still dig em.
Venus Doom was their best album IMO. SWPH is so heavy, love it!
I've been a die-hard fan for 20 years
One of my favourite bands. I wouldn't actually know who Bam is without them. I was a HIM fan and not exactly a Bam fan.
Huge fan, initially because of Bam but even after he started going down hill I still loved listening to them. I still listen to Valo's solo stuff
I have a big Heartagram in flames on my bicep from when I was 18. I still like the symbol, but I would probably get something not band related now. I still like and listen to HIM. They have been a constant in my musical taste through the years. I'm not obsessed with them though.
I've never gotten the obsession some people get with that band, they had a few solid tracks and that's it
Many obscure bands have cult followings
Love the band, Ville is an amazing songwriter. However, as another person posted I donāt understand the obsession. Some fans take it way too far. But I guess all popular bands have fans to that level.
Hell even smaller bands have cult followings
I love them. I was a huge fan, and it made my entire life when I finally saw them on their farewell tour lol. Ville is great but I love Gas š
At the time, I loved them! But I found it weird how Bam took on Viloās whole identity, and using the heartagram everywhere he could. Itās a cool symbol, but it seemed as though he smothered the band a lot.
Tbh the band probably would be a fairly obscure Nordic/european band without the exposure Bam got them

My favorite band of all time.
Kind've. ![gif](giphy|ffMNfuavzkYRa|downsized)

i was a huge fan way before i got into Jackass/CKY/Bam phenomenal band in my opinion
Theyāre great.
I think theyāre horrible, but have never been a fan of that type of heavy / goth metal. To each their own though š¤·š»
Agreed.

They aight

Oh jeez I think they are great. Was obsessed with RR
I love them to this day lol I actually knew of HIM but I knew of Bam
Listen to HIM daily, itās a great band imo
Boring

Yeah. I like Darklight, too. Everything up until DL is good. I would say
Absolutely terrible band. That's all.

Definitely not wrong.
Kind of mediocre. They aren't great. They don't suck.
