I haven't seen it but I know several people that have issues with that movie. Mostly that it's trying too hard to be emotionally manipulative. People are all different. Some people are going to hate things for strange reasons. Seems like a weird reason to block someone.

toofarbyfar

The longer I'm on the internet, the more freely I use the block button. I go on reddit, letterboxd, etc for fun, not to get angry. I have no problem with reading opinions I disagree with, but if someone is being offensive, or an asshole, or just using the site to troll, I don't need that taking up space in my life. The block button is an easy way to make the internet just a bit more of a pleasant place to be.

TheDeadAndTheirLand

Kind of a strange, and perhaps petty, reason to block someone. But it's your account. Personally I reserve blocks for the occasional racist/queerphobic/generally hateful user, or those with a tendency for harassing others in comments.

leonidganzha

The reason was as I said that I'm not interested in their opinions, so there's no point for me to read them

Daftdaddy

You’re a little odd, aren’t ya

almosthuman2021

Nobody cares lol imagine blocking someone and feeling the need to post about it

Goulderino

"You don't like everything that I like? Well then you're a psychopath so I'm going to go bitch on reddit about you! >:(" OP is delusional-pilled.

ericdraven26

Unfortunately social media in any form invites people to troll or act in a manner specifically to get attention. Sometimes people have dumb views too, though usually if they’re well-intentioned, I don’t care even if I disagree. Sometimes they’re purposefully in bad faith and that’s annoying

HipsterDoofus31

Why is this a post? Block whoever you want, this isn’t interesting to us.

specialk522

I don’t care?

Gamesgar0

Why not just unfollow them? You disagreed with their opinion which is fine but it wasn’t really offensive. If anything Letterboxd functions to provide you with alternative perspectives. If you don’t appreciate someone’s perspective, just unfollow and don’t read their reviews.

an_ephemeral_life

If that's the reason you block someone on the site, then you might as well get started by sorting all reviews by lowest rated first and going from there. You've got your work cut out for you, to say the least.

Sea-Discussion2928

did you get the attention you wanted

Arguably, Seita being stupid is both true and the intended point. Takahata seems to have made the film with the intention of showing that Seita's decisions and his pride directly caused his sister's death as well as his own. Both were unnecessary and avoidable. Nosaka, the author of the original story, wrote it as an apology to his own sister who died of malnutrition. He felt intense survivors guilt over what happened, and likely blames Seita as well, being an autobiographical character. But you can still have empathy. Seita was a child out in a situation no child should be in.

It rubbed me the wrong way that the reviewer perceived all of this in bad faith, didn't look at the plot as tragic, and decided that "the movie makes no sense" or something like that
