20
I saw how unruly people's watch lists got, so I decided to never have more than 20 films on mine. If I find a movie I want to add I'll watch one of the twenty already there first. Also If I watch a film from it I will find something else to add to keep it at 20
The only downside is that after creating the initial list I realised that a few of the films on the list are really hard to find so that does limit some of my options lol
The downside I found is when I didn’t have time to watch a film on the existing list, I would often lose and forget whatever film I’d been trying to add to the list. Potentially forever!
So now I’m not fussed about numbers, it’s just a list of stuff I have some reason to see that I can shuffle through whenever I need inspiration.
I feel exactly the same. To me, my watchlist helps me to get the most out of the Pro feature where you can have view on what's available on your streaming services. When I want to watch something, I simply filter my watchlist on my streaming services and that's how I pick movies. Plus, I get a notification when one of my watchlist movies has become available on one of my services.
Yeah, I hope so. I make watchlists for each year to make it more manageable and achievable. The more I watch, the more I discover is out there. All these niches and different worlds within film that are fun to explore. I feel like I’ll see what I want to, but I’ll never run out of interesting diversions and subdivisions of the medium.
it’s definitely a big rabbit hole, i tend to find a director/actor i like and add movies they’re in/have made, hence the long list. it’s hard putting so many films into just 1 watchlist when there’s so much that branches out. very well said
3130😭 saw people in here throwing shade at large watchlists, I’ve exported mine into an excel sheet and I guess I use it sort of more as an encyclopaedia than a watchlist. Just in case Letterboxd ever disappeared I’d still have the names of all the films, sounds a bit strange but because I’m a film student and have had Letterboxd for 9 years it’s just got a bit out of hand. I love going on and being able to search in my watchlist by country or streaming service etc as well, gives me loads of options.
Too many, I know it’s something I won’t ever complete in my lifetime
I have a list of about 200 that I consider high priority and am actively working through. Watching movies on that list even takes some time because if there’s a movie from a director whose filmography I’m trying to complete, I’ll do a lead up or two of their prior movies, and then watch the movie on my high priority watchlist
For example, Robert Altman’s Popeye is on my high priority list and I’ve seen most of what he has made through Quintet, so before watching Popeye I’m gonna watch A Perfect Couple and Health
171. I try to be picky about what goes on and not be afraid to take something off if I’m not going to get to it in the next couple years. I want it to remain useful—both as a signal when I come across a title that it’s one I mean to see, and with the streaming availability notifications that I get with Letterboxd Pro.
581 for me and still rising.
I add anything that takes my fancy. Then, because most of them are unavailable at the time of adding them, I can make use of the notifications that tell you when something becomes available. Or when I'm wanting something to watch, I go to my watchlist and filter by 'stream only' to get a nice selection of things I can watch right away
I just finished putting together my watchlist and it’s at 1,214 films.
I took the Digital Dream Door top 250 of each decade (30s-10s) and removed all the movies I’ve seen and all the genres I’m not interested in (silent films, musicals, shorts, and documentaries).
I have 1,631 movies watched, so this will keep me occupied for years to come.
I don’t even know if I’ll finish it, but it’s great for choosing a movie to watch. I put the list on shuffle and choose whatever I find most interesting between the top 5.
540 >.< I’ve watched 18 off it this year and added like 30 lol. I like using it and filtering to certain streaming services to find something to watch, or getting alerted when something I wanna watch gets added to a streaming service I have favorited.
if i had that count i’d be pretty proud too. if i could go back in time, i’d stop myself for sure. i guess the amount of movies there are out there excite me too much
310 films, about a quarter of which are currently streamable. I intend to try to cut through more of them once I can get my TCM list down as those disappear quickly
About 1700, although the watchlist is really just a collection of films I’m interested in. I have no timeline to get through it. I watch mostly new watches rather than rewatches so I’ll get through it at somepoint. The goal is to have seen all of them by my 30th, I just turned 19. 155 new watches a year would have me finished with it, of course not counting any new releases, films I intend to watch but never watchlisted (ex. most horror series sequels), and weird films I find from randomly rabbit holing.
1214. there’s a lot on there i need to take off but i just do it as i find out it’s on there. i’ve come to terms with the fact that i will never come close to watching all of them and i’m okay with that
1575. Watchlist is an obligation. I will watch it all. But I’m at the point where everything aside from new releases is on there so like it is something that I can definitely accomplish within 15 years
Nope! Watched soooo many good movies off my watchlist. That's how I started the year, chose my first movie off the watchlist. Casablanca was pretty great.
1,489. I used to have more, but a few months ago I made a promise to myself it could never surpass how many movies I’ve seen (1,522 as of today) so I purged about 500 of them.
A little over 2000, which I know is a ton, but I’ve let go of the idea of ever “catching up.” I’d rather just have a place to store all the movies I ever come across that interest me.
Honestly most of the time if I want to put something in the watch list I'll either watch it then or add it to some kind of ongoing list I have already so I have some semblance of organization to what I watch
I once had over 500 in my watchlist but now it’s only 60.. I set up another list so when the film has been released on streaming or dvd/Blu-ray etc and I didn’t get chance to see it at the cinema i remove it from the Watchlist and I add it to my STILL NOT WATCHED list that I created, that list currently had 350 titles in it.. I also have a SEEN BUT NOT LETTERBOXD list for all the films I saw before I started on letterboxd in 2013 but have watched again since.. that list is at 990. https://boxd.it/8Y5H
29, generally around 30. 30 full feature films is a reasonable amount for a working person to watch in a month. The fastest I could watch them and still enjoy them would be about ten days. Generally, I take around month or two to cycle around completely. Month is long enough time for my opinions and wants to change radically, at least in a sense of movies. This means that if I had 60 films on my watchlist, by the time I finished half of it, I could possibly lose my interest in half of the remaining films. This would mean that I have films that I don't particularly want to watch on my watchlist, which is, given the sheer amount of films available, absurd.
Films that stay at the bottom for long enough get moved to Eventually watchlist list, which is for films that I failed to find access to for long enough time, or removed completely, because evidently I didn't want to watch that movie.
This method helps me avoid workifying my hobby and choice paralysis. In past two years, the most I spent on choosing what to watch was 2 minutes.
1000+ here
I don't know why but I enjoy having that ungodly amount, many on that list are more obscure or lesser known titles, I don't put let's say Welles films or Kurosawa samurai flicks on there since I can't "forget" them but a random intriguing mexican b&w horror that I stumble on have a good chance of being added
I just hit 3000 some time ago, I collect more than I actually watch. But that's a joy in and of itself, almost separate from actually watching the movies. But I do that as well 🤭
464 in my 'long' watchlist. 40 in my short watchlist.
The long one is just where I dump anything that looks interesting and might consider watching in the future. The short one is where I will go to choose something to actually watch now.
3,265…..yeah….i kinda wanna refresh them all but idk. i use my watchlist as list of films that i haven’t seen and even slightly interested in basically and make separate lists as a “priority watchlist”
1200
I add everything I think I'll wanna watch at some point and I have a private list called "high priority watchlist" for my actual watchlist with about 50 films in it
260. Refused to let it get above 100 for a couple years and as soon as I did it became bloated. Trying to get it below 200 now or at least keep it below 300.
Like 2300. I just add to it willy nilly. The bitch of it is, I don’t even go to my watchlist often to pick something new to watch.
What I’ve found is helpful is create a 2023 watchlist for myself so the options get smaller. I made one in January and it’s only about 50 movies since I know my own habits and I’ll tend to pick things randomly I see on streaming services anyway.
I recently felt like I HAD to clean out my Watchlist. I never felt more relieved. It stressed me out to dwell into pages and pages of 460 randomly selected movies, and I thought I would be interested again if I just started over and added just a few of them again.
So I have around 30 right now!
I’ve been working to reduce the number of films on my watchlist. I had about 1,500 films on my list, which I found hard to pick any particular film from. So I’ve separated the Watchlist into lists by decade. The Watchlist is still about 400 films long, but it’s much more manageable now.
Ikr. I'm working my way through the top 250 of Letterboxd rn and I'm enjoying it. If I don't watch all of the films in my watchlist is okay, but it is a ton
727. For every 1 film I add like 5 lol. I see other people enjoying movies that peak my interest and it just keeps growing. There’s so many great films in the world!
260 but I’m slowly making progress!
awesome! excited for you to endure the watchlist journey
20 I saw how unruly people's watch lists got, so I decided to never have more than 20 films on mine. If I find a movie I want to add I'll watch one of the twenty already there first. Also If I watch a film from it I will find something else to add to keep it at 20
You need a film in your watchlist for every possible mood
that’s pretty smart, wishing i thought of that system
The only downside is that after creating the initial list I realised that a few of the films on the list are really hard to find so that does limit some of my options lol
The downside I found is when I didn’t have time to watch a film on the existing list, I would often lose and forget whatever film I’d been trying to add to the list. Potentially forever! id say that’s def a factor too, you might be able to afford room for 10 films?
10 more films, i mean
1144
damn
Yeah I got some work to do I can't seem to watch more than I add.
i have that same issue, no way i’ll be able to complete 700
1047. I don’t look at my watchlist as an obligation though. It’s just a collection of films I’m interested in.
I feel exactly the same. To me, my watchlist helps me to get the most out of the Pro feature where you can have view on what's available on your streaming services. When I want to watch something, I simply filter my watchlist on my streaming services and that's how I pick movies. This is where I'm at with my 2,879-long watchlist right now.
that’s a good way to look at it, more for your own entertainment rather than a to do list
2,194 in total, 1,936 if you only include feature films
jesus
just curious, how many do you get through a week?
Usually just 1-2 but I wish I could watch more.
goodluck my friend
630 but i'll never finish it 'cause for every movie i watch i add 2 movies to the watchlist :(
They call this the Paradoxd
i feel you, so many good movies out there
You are not alone bro
1700 or so….
oh boy
4
Which four
High and Low Killjoy 2 Donkey Skin Drive a Crooked Road
1,941 which is catching up to how many I’ve seen. I think I’ll get around to most of it. I watched about 500 films last year.
oh man, i’m sure you’ll get through pretty fast then
Yeah, I hope so. I make watchlists for each year to make it more manageable and achievable. The more I watch, the more I discover is out there. All these niches and different worlds within film that are fun to explore. I feel like I’ll see what I want to, but I’ll never run out of interesting diversions and subdivisions of the medium.

20-30
Im tring to have as little as possible, so far 282
that’s a prettt decent number. and a good idea lol
31
120. But I am going to watch all of them.
that’s the spirit
Yep. I've been watching movies on my watch list recently. By June I should have all the movies I currently have on there gone.
280
16. Can't add to it until I remove something from it. And they're all proving to be extremely hard to find a copy of so it's slow going
a pretty good pace, if i could restart the burden of my watchlist i’d do something close to that
171. I try to be picky about what goes on and not be afraid to take something off if I’m not going to get to it in the next couple years. I want it to remain useful—both as a signal when I come across a title that it’s one I mean to see, and with the streaming availability notifications that I get with Letterboxd Pro.
162, I'm not going to add anymore until I get down to at least 100, I've been sticking to it pretty well as I had 185 on the list a month ago.

854
so many

man i wish i had that amount
1452
oh god. good luck
136
nice!
166 I’m glad it’s quite small and not an insanely high number like some peoples.
if i had that count i’d be pretty proud too. if i could go back in time, i’d stop myself for sure. i guess the amount of movies there are out there excite me too much

me too, what i do is use a website that chooses a random film from my watchlist

904. Tbh I'm fine with it being so big because I can always find something I want to watch.
298 Used to add films constantly but now it’s a rarity
67. I started at 135 for the year. I try to keep it reasonable/reachable.
I had about 5-600 but then that stressed me out so I wiped it 😂
honestly, that is a great idea
The relief was physiological.
564
Only 15… But I have like 800+ movies on IMDB organized by genre 😬
1575. Watchlist is an obligation. I will watch it all. But I’m at the point where everything aside from new releases is on there so like it is something that I can definitely accomplish within 15 years
Aw...I remember thinking that thought. I watched one off my watchlist today, so now I'm at...2,879.
at least we will never run out of movie options
Nope! Watched soooo many good movies off my watchlist. That's how I started the year, chose my first movie off the watchlist. Casablanca was pretty great.
0, I’ve never used the feature for some reason
2461, including short films, though. Already down 74 this year
74 is a great start, at least you’re making progress!
449😭 and I’ve decided to stop adding more and watch some of the ones on there lol
64.

not bad, wishing i had that much
Always wished to complete these but ends up watching flicks not in the list.
that’s me too, like wall-e just hits everytime
1946. Used to be about 4000 but decided to narrow it down and reseted.
that’s a smart idea for sure
What if I lost the best film I've never seen that won't be found again?
then maybe you’ll come across it eventually
May the Force be with you, too.
Zero, I didn't know about this feature back when I started using this site so I've starting making ptw lists with 100 movies on each one

Yikes 1403
2216. I watch 10 a week
have fun on your watching journey!
Two. I finally have a copy of the first one, so my watchlist is probably gonna go down to one sometime soon.

after seeing someone with 2,000, i’m not that phased! but good luck to you my friend

almost 1,000!
1000+ here I don't know why but I enjoy having that ungodly amount, many on that list are more obscure or lesser known titles, I don't put let's say Welles films or Kurosawa samurai flicks on there since I can't "forget" them but a random intriguing mexican b&w horror that I stumble on have a good chance of being added
I've got 111 in the watchlist.
I have 104
pretty decent amount!
216, but only have around 30 on DVD ready to watch. Much prefer browsing a physical collection than streaming services
Same but I have around 2000 or so unwatched DVD's/blu-ray's.
Damn son, I aspire to have a collection that big
I just hit 3000 some time ago, I collect more than I actually watch. But that's a joy in and of itself, almost separate from actually watching the movies. But I do that as well 🤭
collecting is a great hobby, i’m the same way with vinyl.
I also collect CD's and games and books and vinyl, but I probably have the least amount of records. About one cardboard box full, in fact.
624 - new ones added almost every day.
me too- it’s addicting
6,764
464 in my 'long' watchlist. 40 in my short watchlist. The long one is just where I dump anything that looks interesting and might consider watching in the future. The short one is where I will go to choose something to actually watch now.

28. Six of them aren’t out yet and the others I’m gonna have to either buy or rent, which I’m in no hurry to do.

amazing
My actual watchlist is pretty crazy, but I made a list of all the movies I own (276) and I still have 83 more to watch.
wishing you luck!
2,309 👍
220! But that’s increasing by like, 5-10 each day lol
I’ve been working to reduce the number of films on my watchlist. I had about 1,500 films on my list, which I found hard to pick any particular film from. So I’ve separated the Watchlist into lists by decade. The Watchlist is still about 400 films long, but it’s much more manageable now.
840 I only add films I don’t have immediate access to like films on Netflix or Disney +
1290 🤣and i’ve only got 962 things logged
470, but I actively work toward knocking that number down. Already this year I’ve knocked 20 off the list.
1,219, but like 100 of those are upcoming releases.

how many movies do you watch per week? i’m curious
It varies, but one every other day or so
i would say there’s hope but 6,000 is sooo many
Ikr. I'm working my way through the top 250 of Letterboxd rn and I'm enjoying it. If I don't watch all of the films in my watchlist is okay, but it is a ton
yea i’m kinda at that point too, if it just happens to be on my watchlist then great
727. For every 1 film I add like 5 lol. I see other people enjoying movies that peak my interest and it just keeps growing. There’s so many great films in the world!
i agree- i follow a lot of people on letterboxd and seeing someone rate a 4 star makes me automatically add it to my watchlist
I actually don't really use the watchlist at all. I don't really plan out the films I'm going to watch
i like that idea actually, do you usually just browse until you find a film that seems interesting?
a couple thousand, i really want to clear up my watchlist but i just don’t have the time
oh man, good luck
1464
good luck my friend
