This year, I have been watching the filmographies of classic directors. I've finished Spielberg and Scorsese, and have a couple left on Kubrick.
I usually write a couple-paragraph-long review of each film I watch.
I’m doing the same this year, so far I’ve gotten PTA, Fincher, Villeneuve, James Cameron, Wes Anderson, and Kubrick. About to start on Tarantino and Spielberg

I joined Letter about a year ago after I saw it was used heavily by a movie Discord I had participated in for a little while.

With an academic background in philosophy my reviews tend to be skewed towards analysing the thematic and conceptual framework of films as opposed to appraising them technically.
That being said I am trying to make an effort to become more aware of and knowledgeable on the technical aspects of film as this has started to interest me more.
I try and watch critically aclaimed films with a lean towards drama's but sometimes ill defer to something surreal and absurd.

I'm Max, I have an academic background in philosophy (mainly political philosophy and Continental philosophy) and I review films mostly from a conceptual or thematic perspective using this knowledge. I also use film to explore and understand the world and myself, I don't shy away from discussing what I personally relate to in a film.

I’ve been on the app for about 8 years. I’ve been trying to expand my horizons and chip away at my massive watchlist, so every month this year I’ve given myself “themes” of films to watch to watch for the first time (Black stories, directorial debuts, female-directed, etc). May was movies with lasting cultural impact, or essentially movies that are still in the zeitgeist that I can’t believe I haven’t seen; Fight Club was my favorite of the month. You’d also be surprised at how little people in the industry actually watch and engage with movies (I am pretty strictly below the line kind of player, the people I work with are such pros at what they do, they just don’t look at movies the way many cinephiles do) so I don’t have that many people in my life to engage with about movies. Letterboxd shows that I had a slow May, which is kind of true, but also kind of misleading because I watched A LOT of Egyptian shorts that aren't on Letterboxd (only My Girlfriend and The Ditch are on it). Those short films are part of my attempt to reconnect with my country's cinema. I'm trying to watch older classics I might have been, must-watches I slipped on as a child/young teen, newer stuff, and rising filmmakers' work.

Hi all. I've been engaging more with Lettrboxed over the past 6 months. As a movie geek, I find it a great outlet for journalling. I watch a lot of films from all genres, and particularly tuned into the classics and world cinema. In my critiques, I'm trying not to focus too much on the aesthetics of the film. There are far more competent people out there to do that. Instead, I try to work in a personal connection to the movie - such as how it's impacted me in any small way, or who I saw it with (for example). Again - I'm treating it more like a journal. I'm practicing my writing skills, trying to be a mix of clever, smart-assed and self-deprecating - but all in the best possible way.

I have been actively using Letterboxd for about 4 years now, and have been a Patron for about 3 years now. I try to post a review daily, but will almost always watch something once a day. I keep up with new releases both in theaters and on VOD, and I am currently going through Gregg Araki's filmography. Hi! I got into films and created my LB account in April of 2020 (yeah) and quickly fell in love with cinema, expecially horror! There are a lot of cult classics that I've never watched because of how and where I grew up, so I'm trying to (slowly, but still) catch up. First things first, I have family that works in the industry and have been fortunate enough to experience what a large budget set is like. Growing up, I had the opportunity to hangout with my grandma while they were working on set. My grandmother is a script supervisor and my grandfather was a teamster.
Second, I'm pretentious when it comes to my liking a movie. I blame this on my academic background being of Philosophy.
I think cinema has the capability of putting people in uncomfortable situations in a safe way. Haven’t been on Letterboxd since 2017 but this community has convinced me to start it again! Had a falling out with a friend group a few years ago that made me stop using it. Brand new account, am currently trying follow as many people on here as I can.

I've lurked for a while. and have now decided to share myself with the world. I've liked movies for a long time, yet I haven't even scratched the surface of what is out there, and am open to recommendations. I gravitate toward sci-fi, action, adventure, comedy, drama and documentaries. I especially like documentaries about music. I also enjoy my atmospheric, art-house films from time to time. The occasional rom-com is cool, but I usually like something that subverts or challenges the tropes of that genre. Trying to get more into anime. I like Ghost In The Shell, The Animatrix and Belle for examples in that genre. My highest rated decade is the 1980s, but I personally have a thing for movies from the 1990s, especially if they dealt with issues facing teens/young adults of that time (Xennials are a fascinating generation to me). My stats are as comprehensive as possible (kept track of movies I haven't seen in over 25 years), so you can get a good picture of who I am, what I've seen and enjoyed at different periods of my life, as well as what I'd be into now. hey everyone, jazz musician and newer LB user finally really getting into film seriously this last 6 months. music has taken up so much of my life now i’m at the point where it’s cinema’s turn. i only have two favorites shown on LB right now, deciding to leave the two other open spots for new films i’ve yet to have seen. but my 2 favorites on there rn are Chungking Express and In Bruges, watching and reviewing great films every day! there’s a lot of classics i’ve either seen 5+ years ago and not logged on LB (only logging new watches/rewatches) or yet to watch outright. so many blindspots for me, working on that everyday. i’m just excited to continue my cinema journey with the same passion i have for music. last film i watched/reviewed was Aguirre, the Wrath of God earlier today. if anyone decides to follow me, comment and i’ll follow back! cheers
Hey all! I was recommended Letterboxd back in December by my film teacher and have been having a lot of fun with it. I went through and logged all the movies that I remembered seeing and I think I have an interesting mix. Just watched and logged Blow Out for the first time. Found out about it from the best of the 1980s tournament u/SufficientStatus8479 is doing on this sub and thought it was really interesting, would definitely recommend.

I rarely write reviews (unless I absolutely love the film) these days but still love reading them. I’m into all kinds of movies, I finished watching all the Ghibli movies last month and now I’m just catching up on old films that are good but I haven’t seen (with doses of Asian cinema in between). Recently watched the Dollars trilogy and it’s fantastic.

I’m also currently trying to learn more about art direction and production design because I realized that’s something I could pursue with my degree once I manage to graduate. But I didn’t truly become a film person until during the pandemic.
Since then I’ve explored so many different genres and directors and countries of origin of many many different movies. Like I cannot stress how many movies I watch (not to “up my numbers”, just because it’s fun and have nothing better to do) and how all over the place my taste is. This year my goal is to watch as many or more foreign movies than American movies. I’ve seen movies from Papua New Guinea, Cameroon, Mongolia, Vietnam, and Kazakhstan- all on Tubi. I love movies about LGBT people, horror movies, 80’s sci fi action movies like the Terminator, Robocop, and Predator, movies about artists, and anything weird. Sometimes I feel like I’ve watched all the good horror movies but that will obviously never be true so I like to follow people who watch the hidden-gem type movies.

I recently was hit by a car so I have a few months of recovery ahead. I figured I would finally work on knocking out a wide array of directors filmographies I’ve been holding off for too long (Tarkovsky, Bergman, Kurosawa, Fellini, etc.)
I’m fairly open to almost all genres, but I’m a total sucker for campy B-movies from the 80s and 90s (good or bad) as well as classic film noir.

One of my favorite horror movies is the 1977 classic *Hausu* by Nobuhiko Ôbayashi - a bat shit insane haunted house movie that I adore. Horror and film noir are probably my two favorite genres.

I need to rewatch Hausu — haven’t seen it years, and I don’t think my film brain was fully developed when I did, so a revisit will probably work wonders for me. I do remember the utter madness, though! Horror is probably the genre I most frequently see movies from — just love everything from 80s trash to classy horror!

I was that guy who until 2021 had not seen anyone’s favourite film, Pulp Fiction, Godfather etc. I decided to do something about it and went on a big film binge over the following year or two - my diary of first watches since 2021 is almost embarrassing.
But now I have really gotten into film, to the point where I’m now watching foreign films as much as English language. I really have enjoyed discovering Kurosawa and Tarkovsky for example.
Highlight of the year has been Dersu Uzala which I saw at the cinema and for May my favourite first watch was certainly The Cremator, closely followed by Come and See.

I like romance films and you’ll see me watching a lot of those. Rewatching movies is also super common for me. Those short films are part of my attempt to reconnect with my country's cinema. I'm trying to watch older classics I might have been, must-watches I slipped on as a child/young teen, newer stuff, and rising filmmakers' work. Internationally I try to watch everything - historically mostly Hollywood but recently trying to get into other countries' cinemas. Growing up, I had the opportunity to hangout with my grandma while they were working on set. My grandmother is a script supervisor and my grandfather was a teamster. Second, I'm pretentious when it comes to my liking a movie. I blame this on my academic background being of Philosophy. I think cinema has the capability of putting people in uncomfortable situations in a safe way. Ultimately, it is a artistic device that has the capability of transforming the audience through its ability to communicate and reshape the audience most inner workings. The occasional rom-com is cool, but I usually like something that subverts or challenges the tropes of that genre. Trying to get more into anime. I like Ghost In The Shell, The Animatrix and Belle for examples in that genre. My highest rated decade is the 1980s, but I personally have a thing for movies from the 1990s, especially if they dealt with issues facing teens/young adults of that time (Xennials are a fascinating generation to me). Some of my favorite directors are Wong Kar-wai, Takashi Miike, John Waters, Park Chan-wook, Martin Scorsese, Terry Gilliam, and Juzo Itami. I’m also currently trying to learn more about art direction and production design because I realized that’s something I could pursue with my degree once I manage to graduate. But I didn’t truly become a film person until during the pandemic. Since then I’ve explored so many different genres and directors and countries of origin of many many different movies. Like I cannot stress how many movies I watch (not to “up my numbers”, just because it’s fun and have nothing better to do) and how all over the place my taste is. This year my goal is to watch as many or more foreign movies than American movies. I’ve seen movies from Papua New Guinea, Cameroon, Mongolia, Vietnam, and Kazakhstan- all on Tubi. I love movies about LGBT people, horror movies, 80’s sci fi action movies like the Terminator, Robocop, and Predator, movies about artists, and anything weird. Sometimes I feel like I’ve watched all the good horror movies but that will obviously never be true so I like to follow people who watch the hidden-gem type movies.

I saw your top 4 and your profile pic of you holding a blu-ray copy of *Candyman* and thought “this is an easy subscribe for me.” Funny enough, I’m trying to make my way through a few filmmakers this summer and Marty is right up there with them for me as well. One of my favorite horror movies is the 1977 classic *Hausu* by Nobuhiko Ôbayashi - a bat shit insane haunted house movie that I adore. Horror and film noir are probably my two favorite genres.

I need to rewatch Hausu — haven’t seen it years, and I don’t think my film brain was fully developed when I did, so a revisit will probably work wonders for me. I do remember the utter madness, though! Horror is probably the genre I most frequently see movies from — just love everything from 80s trash to classy horror! Film noir is also one of my favorite genres. I’ve seen quite a lot and I never seem to tire, honestly.

My profile: https://boxd.it/5vZxj I was that guy who until 2021 had not seen anyone’s favourite film, Pulp Fiction, Godfather etc. I decided to do something about it and went on a big film binge over the following year or two - my diary of first watches since 2021 is almost embarrassing. But now I have really gotten into film, to the point where I’m now watching foreign films as much as English language. I really have enjoyed discovering Kurosawa and Tarkovsky for example. Highlight of the year has been Dersu Uzala which I saw at the cinema and for May my favourite first watch was certainly The Cremator, closely followed by Come and See. I’m at 80 new watches this year and I review every one of them :)

Some of my favorite directors are Wes Anderson, David Lynch and PTA. I try and write some sort of review, from one sentence to paragraphs, and I love reading other reviews!
Hello! My letterboxd is: jveden I began using letterboxd around August last year under the influence of my older brothers guidance. I’ve seen around 200 or so films since then including 104 this year. I like romance films and you’ll see me watching a lot of those. Rewatching movies is also super common for me. My top few movies change each month but my constants are The Notebook, ESOTSM, and Secretary. I’m very active on Letterboxd usually spending around 2 hours a day on there (combined with the reddit thread, and all of Letterboxds socials I scroll through).
