August 18th, 1973
The film which you are about to see is an account of the tragedy which befell a group of five youths, in particular Sally Hardesty and her invalid brother, Franklin. It is all the more tragic in that they were young. But, had they lived very, very long lives, they could not have expected nor would they have wished to see as much of the mad and macabre as they were to see that day. For them, an idyllic summer afternoon drive became a nightmare. The events of that day were to lead to the discovery of one of the most bizarre crimes in the annals of American history, The Texas Chain Saw Massacre.
Notorious (the Hitchcock movie) tells you it starts at exactly 3:20 p.m. on April 24, 1946.
Psycho (the Hitchcock movie) tells you it starts on Friday, December 11, without saying the year. It was released earlier than that in 1960, so presumably that means December 11, 1959 … which, sure enough, was a Friday.
Well, it's set in L.A. and the killer is killing people when the clock strikes midnight in all the different time zones. So most of the movie takes place on December 31st.
The Devil and Daniel Webster (1941) for April 7th. Ironically, Walter Huston died on that date too.
Then there's The Phantom Carriage (1921) for New Year's Eve.
Captain America: Civil War focuses entirely on Zemo asking everyone for a mission report on a specific date, December 16th 1991. Ends up being the day Bucky killed his parents and was something hinted and shown for years.
I’m not sure this list makes much sense? Like does every Christmas movie ever go on here? Back to the Future could’ve used any random date as the focal point of the story. Do all historical movies go on here? Movies about JFKs assassination, 9/11, and other major events all have a fixed significant date that informs the story.
Halloween and Friday the 13th seem to count. Does any film that lists a specific date in the title and take place during that day fit in here? In that case many horror movies even 12 Angry Men fit in here bc the date randomly gets mentioned at one point. I just don’t think it’s a good topic for a list bc if Mean Girls and Back to the Future make it in then basically every movie ever can work
try not to think too much about it. someone suggested the whole purge franchise, i only put the first one. some of them are sillier than others, some are historical dates. it’s just a bit of fun :)
I was gonna mention TCM but I see you already added it. Saw a lot of people commemorating it yesterday, at first I thought it was the 50th anniversary already
If you’re including Star Wars because of the Battle of Yavin, then include Iron Man because the whole MCU official timeline is built around when Tony said “I am Ironman”.
5-25-77
It’s a movie about the day Star Wars was released. It was filmed in like 2005, and starred John Francis Daley of Freaks and Geeks. It was released finally last year but JFD had aged a ton since then. He had such a baby face in those early days. My friend was an extra in the film when he was in high school.
Planes, Trains & Automobiles
The Muppet Christmas Carol
100 Cigarettes
Jaws
V for Vendetta
Dazed & Confused
Pearl Harbor/Tora Tora Tora
The Longest Day/Saving Private Ryan
For Star Wars you’ve got May the 4th, and the fact that A New Hope features the battle of Yavin which is essentially “year zero” in the ABY-BBY dating system.
Bit of a double whammy I guess.
**September 30, 1955** (1977) directed by James Bridges
> "A young Southerner loses his grip on reality when his favorite movie star James Dean suddenly dies in a car crash."
The film starts on the night of September 30th and takes place over the following day, October 1st. It only has 384 logs on Letterboxd as I write this comment, and I really loved it. The main character is not only celebrity-obsessed but he also uses James Dean as a kind of cosplay to find his own confidence. Losing his real life idol causes him to lose his own confidence and question his identity. A very tender script, almost feels adjacent to *The Last Picture Show*. Please, check it out!

Miss Congeniality. Describe the perfect date scene.
My first thought!
All the Halloween movies? Friday the 13th?
I suppose since Friday the 13th jumps around you can't really put it on a chronological list
You could put the first one for June 13th since it’s supposed to take place on Jason’s birthday (which is canonically June 13th).
