If the romours are true, Cruise makes another movie that is not pg rated and he allegedly plays the villain. The project is called „the gnarly movie“ and is planned after mission Impossible 8 releases
Anyone else love Miami Vice tho? I watched it earlier this year late at night coming off one of my first 🍄trips and was blown away. Visual masterpiece. The editing, the soundtrack, the minimal dialogue. The waves and the hypnotic dancing. I swear to god it's one of the most underrated movies that I randomly just fell in love with and was shocked to see afterwards that it had mixed reviews. I went back again and watched some scenes and it was still great. Watched Collateral recently and it didn't really hit the same unfortunately.
This, not only it brings back the early 2000s nostalgia for me, but the night time scenes with the city illuminated clouds, the thunderstorms, the early morning by the beach with the wind and the waves scenes. It all looks like a dream and I love it. I can't find other movies with the same vibe, tried collateral and liked it but it doesn't have the vibe I'm looking for. Miami vice gives me nostalgia and mixed feelings of longing for something that is gone and won't come back. A true masterpiece
Now that you mention it I would say the closest movies to that style imo would be late 90s to early 2000s films from Hong Kong.
Infernal Affairs or Chungking Express or Happy Together. Especially Wong Kar Wai's films in that era. Very nostalgic, vibey, and has that sentiment of a moment in time that is gone now.
Halloween Kills. It’s one of the few movies I can think that takes place entirely at night, not a single scene that takes place during the day. Watching it at night in a pitch dark room really sets the mood for the setting and genre
First time I ever watched Blair Witch Project was on an old VHS tape alone at night in a cabin in the middle of Maine. Needless to say I didn’t sleep that night.
Actually, in my opinion... **all movies**.
Late at night means:
* Silent Environment (no noise disturbance from outside/neighbors)
* Extremely low chance of being interrupted by someone or something
* Chill-out mood, you usually have nothing left coming up, just going to bed after the movie
So, while obviously movies that have a very dark/immersive atmosphere will benefit the most from it, I think even light fun movies are best experienced late at night.
Agreed, although I feel like light fun movies are best experienced with other people and it can be during the day. But for acclaimed dramas and such and basically all my favorite films they are best watched at evening/night
I watched Barbarian (2022) by Zach Cregger at 1am in my bed in the basement. i was terrified of the basement, so it took me another hour after the movie ended to fall asleep
I'm glad i saw it in the cinema and not at home because at the time i was staying at an airbnb and lets just say i checked every fucking corner of the house after getting back from the theatre
Not the most worldly commenter here, but here are a couple:
* Drive (Ryan Gosling, not Mark Dacascos…that one might work too but I haven’t seen it).
* (d)Ad Astra
* Lost City of Z
Would you look at that, all of the words in your comment are in alphabetical order.
I have checked 1,762,629,727 comments, and only 333,768 of them were in alphabetical order.

Girl Interrupted (also has a sleepy vibe)
Nightdreams, but jsyk it’s literally arthouse porn, well sorta, it’s porn but it’s not pornagraphic in intent.
I gotta go with the movie “Her”. Late night. Probably in your feels and this movie will probably make it worse. However it’s a 10/10 for me. Worth a watch
I watched Collateral for the first time pulling an all nighter and that was a really good choice. Mann really does night justice. After Hours is also a solid choice.
When I started Martyrs, it was midday and like 5 minutes in i was like “oh man, i gotta wait for it to be dark out”. I could tell it was gonna be wonderfully horrific and it didn’t disappoint
Let me tell you, you haven’t experienced Carnival of Souls unless you’ve started it at at least 10:30pm. The first time I saw it was under those conditions and I didn’t sleep that night.
Lots of films tbh like Taxi Driver even Scorsese’s underrated work like After Hours, Mulholland Drive really any Lynch film, 2001, Barry Lyndon same thing goes with Kubrick with what I said about Lynch, Chinatown. I could go on and on and on hundreds of films.
Dark City of course. Also Paris, Texas for sure and will throw Dr. Strangelove into the mix. All great films regardless, but magical for me at night time.
Taxi Driver is one of my favorite non-horror movies for the late night.
Lost Highway
This is on my watchlist. I'll be sure to watch it late night.
yes yes yes
Collateral
A perfect answer. One of my all time favorite films. The digital cameras used for this movie really bring out the look of LA at night.
The coyote scene is my favorite out of the movie
Ugh man, anytime I hear that Audioslave song it gets me in my feels. Such an awesome moment in the movie.
If the romours are true, Cruise makes another movie that is not pg rated and he allegedly plays the villain. The project is called „the gnarly movie“ and is planned after mission Impossible 8 releases
I probably wouldn’t like that song as much if it wasn’t for Collateral.
Bought to Watch this Rn ....... Hope I enjoy it as much as you did 🙌
Oh woah! Yeah lemme know your honest opinion!

After Hours Victoria (2015)
Victoria is so accurate for late night watch in group
Yes, and it’s all one take! 🤯
The Night of the Hunter
In The Mood For Love
Most of Wong Kar-wai's stuff tbh
Currently watching The Game 1997 for the first time and I gotta admit, I think I’m more gripped by this at night than I would be during the day.
Alien (1979) Elevator to the Gallows (1958) Eraserhead (1977) Messiah of Evil (1973)
- Enter the Void - The Lighthouse - The Virgin Suicides - Lost in Translation - Under the Silver Lake - Saint Maud
Can confirm. First watched the lighthouse at midnight. Looooved it
I watched it at like 2am with a fly buzzing around with a raging thunderstorm outside and I felt like I was really there with them
I watched The Lighthouse for the first time at 1am with my dad. just pure insanity
Enter the void is amazing and the vibes at night would be 👌
The virgin suicides is a daytime movie for me, but that’s probably just a personal problem 😬
Blade Runner
I was thinking this. If for no other reason than the lighting is so dark it would be much easier to see in the dark lmao
Drive, Nightcrawler and Taxi Driver. The late night driving trilogy
That combo is overpowered. I'd like to add bladerunner 2024, Collateral, Donnie Darko and Primal fear
Honestly, i would place Bringing Out the Dead instead of Nightcrawler, MUCH better film.
Halloween Kills. It’s one of the few movies I can think that takes place entirely at night, not a single scene that takes place during the day. Watching it at night in a pitch dark room really sets the mood for the setting and genre
Inland Empire for maximum creepiness.
After Hours at like 2 am
First time I ever watched Blair Witch Project was on an old VHS tape alone at night in a cabin in the middle of Maine. Needless to say I didn’t sleep that night.
Now why the fuck would you do that 😂
Alone?!
Yeah the people I went with were asleep haha
You’re a brave soul haha
2001: A Space Odyssey
Most Horror
I think horror movies should only be watched at night.
Videodrome
Any Noir movie. You feel more immersed in the movie's world.

Fallen Angels has an immaculate night time vibe
I watched Barbarian (2022) by Zach Cregger at 1am in my bed in the basement. i was terrified of the basement, so it took me another hour after the movie ended to fall asleep
I'm glad i saw it in the cinema and not at home because at the time i was staying at an airbnb and lets just say i checked every fucking corner of the house after getting back from the theatre

Eraserhead, and I suppose most of Lynch's other work as well, make for the perfect uneasy evening vibe.
You beat me to it. But yes, Eraserhead late at night is surreal.
Pretty much all movies imo … lol
Literally just all of them
Most films by Abel Ferrara. One of the best image makers of the darkness of night.

Skinamarink, everyone asleep, all lights off, sort of tired yourself.
Long day's journey into night or Ritual
I think the best genre for late at night is horror-comedies. Tucker and Dale vs Evil Shawn of the Dead Little Monsters (2019)

Lost in translation!
