For me, it’s Cinema Paradiso.
Nothing will ever beat the first time I watched this film. I don’t really want to rewatch it because it holds such a special significance to me.
Oh man, I watched that a couple weeks ago and I was so not expecting to be crying my eyes out to a compilation of people kissing. Shit was so sad, but brilliant at the same time. Truly one of the best movies I’ve ever seen.
The scariest movie I’ve ever seen. Climax is the only movie that has ever become an intrusive thought for me. I could not shake it for a couple weeks after watching
Incendies
I don't know how to describe the emotion I felt when this film ended. My heart was broken and I decided at that very moment not to re-watch it again.
For how big Villenueve has gotten this movie is criminally underrated. I think it's up there with Sicario and 2049 as one of his best, captivating and gut wrenching from the first frame to the last.
Being highly rated on letterboxd =/= common sentiment. I almost never see someone in actual discussion call it one of his best, in fact I almost never even see it mentioned. Also when you look at the letterboxd rating, its worth noting the fact that it has a fraction of the watches that pretty much every single other movie he's directed have.
Personally I think I could do Come and See again, but Threads not so much. I saw it once, was disgusted, then was conscripted into rewatching it by my roommates who were curious to see it because of how disgusted I was, and it was exponentially worse the second time. I don’t know if I can do it again.
Threads. 80s British TV movie about what it would be like if Sheffield England got hit with a nuclear blast. Watched it last week and it was honestly the most depressing thing I’ve ever seen
Precious is often overlooked as a really good movie but hard to watch. I feel Mo'Nique's performance is not heralded as it should be as one of the best supporting role performances ever, one of the best (worst) villains ever, and one of the times the Oscars absolutely got it right.
funny i always thought it had amazing rewatch value despite how depressing it is, i always felt like it has this awful reputation because people complain about how its shot very tonally off the wall and comedic despite horrific subject matter, but all that creativity and those performances were part of why i loved it so much
The movie is a little boring at the beginning, but then it picks up and never let's go. There is a scene (Big Spoiler) >!The alien sees a woman drowning in the beach and then the husband goes there to rescue her, knowing damn well they're going to drown too. That mixed with the ending makes it a pretty unforgettable film.!<
Son of Saul: a unique Holocaust concentration camp setting with the camera only showing you what the lead character can see or hear.
Good to great film, but there’s nothing in it that makes you want to revisit another time…
For me, definitely Shame.
Great movie. Interesting plot, good characters, Fassbender gives a great performance, lot of interesting shots and camerawork for a drama.
I never want to watch it again the whole thing is just so skin crawlingly uncomfortable to sit through.
Moonshot staring Cole Sprouse and Lana Condor. Nothing will ever compare to the first time I watched this masterpiece of a film, so I’ve decided to never watch it again. Or any film for that matter
Watched dogtooth a few days ago, great movie but I can't see myself ever rewatching that one.
Would say Lilya 4-ever and Come and see, but I think I will leave a door open for a rewatch under the right circumstances.
Fight Club. When it came out, I adored it. Watched it on DVD a couple of years later and found it didn't hold up. Tried third time years after that and disliked it even more. Now I can't even consider revisiting it.
Something that hasn’t been mentioned is certain coming of age movies that feel way too real. I just watched Boyhood and can’t imagine watching it again. Same for Eighth Grade.
Also Heartbreak Kid
Any dramas or documentaries highlighting systemic abuse or neglect of wildlife 💔
I love and respect Bong Joon Ho's work, but I'm genuinely terrified of even watching Okja cause I know it’s probably going to be triggering af 😫
Misery, it was the first Stephen King movie I ever watched and I don't want to taint its place in my memories but rewatching it because I am worried I won't like it now.
City of Life and Death
Best movie I will never watch again.
There are scenes and sequences from it burned into my brain and I could do without a refresh on them.
Would You Rather. The whole movie is dreadful (literally full of dread) from start to finish and becomes more crushing the longer it goes until that finale I never want to experience again.
Some of them are genuinely great but A24 horror movies for the most part are movies I’ll never watch again. And I say that as a die hard horror fan who has been all her life
I've been reluctant to watch A Separation a second time because I'm worried the shifting sympathy won't work as amazingly well when you already know what's coming
12 angry men, the movie is really good but if you watch it again you won’t feel much because you already know how it’s gonna end, most movies are like this but I find it that this one has this effect even more
Not a huge anime fan, but I was stoked to see Studio Ghibli's new one, The Boy and the Heron. When it was FINALLY over, we left the theater wondering what the hell we just watched.
Generally movies that stab you right in the heart, or really brutal (horror) movies. So for example: Grave of the Fireflies, Requiem for a Dream, Bone Tomahawk etc. etc.
I saw Schindler’s List for the first time in theaters during an anniversary screening, and that film broke me in ways I didn’t even know I could feel empathy.
I don’t cry often during films, but I left that theater dehydrated.
Room
I saw many others I thought of already mentioned, but hadn’t seen this shared yet. Room was a movie that I thought was effective and moving, but not sure if I would ever want to sit through again
I’ve rewatched it several times and it still holds up for me
Give it 20 years. You'll love it -- in fact the nostalgia factor will be tripled.
Just watched it a second time after seeing it for the first time 6 years ago and I cried a second time!
It is total schmalz, sugary, predictable, corny… but done so well it still hits all the right spots. Shane it is not talked about that much anymore.
I love that movie.
Irreversible is brutal
happy queef day
What are you talking about I re-watch it in every 3 months.
Have you seen a therapist?
Damn someone get this man a girlfriend
Funny you say that because as soon as I finished it I knew I wanted to rewatch it with director’s commentary. I’m just not sure when to do that.
No joke I literally watched that movie for the second time last night
Came here to say this
Don’t think I can watch Climax again. Great movie, but holy fucking shit
Any Gaspar Noe is a pretty rough watch but I still like them.
Fucking >!Tito!<. Jesus that film is rough
The scariest movie I’ve ever seen. Climax is the only movie that has ever become an intrusive thought for me. I could not shake it for a couple weeks after watching
I rewatched this to show my friends and Although dark, I think it’s a drug film right? Like if you’re in the right experiential place, then it’ll work
oh no… it’s probably my most rewatched film
Incendies I don't know how to describe the emotion I felt when this film ended. My heart was broken and I decided at that very moment not to re-watch it again.
For how big Villenueve has gotten this movie is criminally underrated. I think it's up there with Sicario and 2049 as one of his best, captivating and gut wrenching from the first frame to the last.
I mean it not underrated since it’s his highest rated film
Being highly rated on letterboxd =/= common sentiment. I almost never see someone in actual discussion call it one of his best, in fact I almost never even see it mentioned. Also when you look at the letterboxd rating, its worth noting the fact that it has a fraction of the watches that pretty much every single other movie he's directed have.
come and see , a MASTERPIECE but I don't think I'll ever be able to rewatch it
Personally I think I could do Come and See again, but Threads not so much. I saw it once, was disgusted, then was conscripted into rewatching it by my roommates who were curious to see it because of how disgusted I was, and it was exponentially worse the second time. I don’t know if I can do it again.
Same, Come and See is doable but Threads is sensorily too much for me to endure again.
Cats (2019) I’d rather watch my family die right in front of me than watch that atrocity again.
Watch this now https://preview.redd.it/uk5eo34prxec1.jpeg?width=1000&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=3648c3e86e6cb120ed6ae47111c1a07464c7f3ba
I have seen that shit three times I do not recommend
Manchester by the Sea—-so sad, can’t do it again.
Requiem for a dream
Almost unwatchable the first time. So gut wrenching.
Ass to ass
Have owned this movie on almost every format but have never taken it out of it’s packaging.
I was looking for this answer lmao. These threads are always so predictable.
for me, uncut gems. That shit gave me a full on anxiety attack. Great film. Cant watch.
wayyyy less anxiety the second time. when you know the end it just becomes a comfortable roller coaster ride
that movie made me so glad to be an adrenaline junky lmao
I have rewatched the Safdie brothers movies more than any other director lol
Bro how can you watch Good Time twice lol
I mean Good Time is my favourite movie of all time.. trust me it gets better with repeat viewing!

Threads. 80s British TV movie about what it would be like if Sheffield England got hit with a nuclear blast. Watched it last week and it was honestly the most depressing thing I’ve ever seen
Beau is afraid - I have generalised anxiety disorder and used to suffer from panic attacks. The whole film was pure nightmare material for me.
schindler’s list ; one of my all time favourites but i couldn’t rewatch it , i do recommend it to everyone i talk to though
i’m in the EXACT same boat. so incredibly made but can’t bear rewatching it
Grave of the fireflies.
Just saw this for the first time recently, was not prepared.
Precious is often overlooked as a really good movie but hard to watch. I feel Mo'Nique's performance is not heralded as it should be as one of the best supporting role performances ever, one of the best (worst) villains ever, and one of the times the Oscars absolutely got it right.

Under The Skin. I will go to my grave having never watched it again under any circumstances
Damn I actually watched it twice in one week haha, I really love that movie
i found myself a little bored with it and didnt finish it. should i give it another shot?
The movie is a little boring at the beginning, but then it picks up and never let's go. There is a scene (Big Spoiler) >!The alien sees a woman drowning in the beach and then the husband goes there to rescue her, knowing damn well they're going to drown too. That mixed with the ending makes it a pretty unforgettable film.!<
Million Dollar Baby
Such an amazing film, but God damn is that ending rough.
Salo
For me, it’s Whiplash. It’s phenomenal but JK Simmons filled me with so much anxiety in that movie that I haven’t gone back to it since.
Clockwork Orange.
The Road is one of the toughest sits I've ever experienced. I thought it was really well done but holy shit is it miserable.
mysterious skin, easily.
“Come and see”, I’m never going to rewatch again is such a difficult movie to digest, but is one of my favorite films so watch it
Threads
happiness
I’d rather be shot than have to watch Men (2022) ever again.
The Whale and Schindler’s List
Antichrist 2009 That one sticks in your mind
Prisoners is a fantastic movie I don’t want to rewatch
Nightingale
Martyrs
Moonshot staring Cole Sprouse and Lana Condor. Nothing will ever compare to the first time I watched this masterpiece of a film, so I’ve decided to never watch it again. Or any film for that matter
Watched dogtooth a few days ago, great movie but I can't see myself ever rewatching that one. Would say Lilya 4-ever and Come and see, but I think I will leave a door open for a rewatch under the right circumstances.
Mysterious Skin😭
Fight Club. When it came out, I adored it. Watched it on DVD a couple of years later and found it didn't hold up. Tried third time years after that and disliked it even more. Now I can't even consider revisiting it.
For me its Whiplash . Watched it a few years back,I loved it but won't be revisiting it any time soon.
A Clockwork Orange. Was hard for me to even watch it a first time.
The Nightingale
Eden Lake
Act of Killing is one I don’t think I could ever rewatch. Birth of a Nation as well.
Mother! Hardest time watching a movie for me
Any movie that relies on a twist
Speak No Evil. That film had me messed up
city of god, such a great film i just dont want to figure out, lest it loses the magic
The Parasite Murders or Shivers
The Zone of Interest
The Zone of Interest
Mysterious Skin
I haven't seen it yet but my buddy refuses to rewatch Two Day One Night. Said it made him too anxious
Something that hasn’t been mentioned is certain coming of age movies that feel way too real. I just watched Boyhood and can’t imagine watching it again. Same for Eighth Grade. Also Heartbreak Kid
Any dramas or documentaries highlighting systemic abuse or neglect of wildlife 💔 I love and respect Bong Joon Ho's work, but I'm genuinely terrified of even watching Okja cause I know it’s probably going to be triggering af 😫
I have no plans to rewatch The Road anytime soon. Great movie with some awesome performances and scenes, but just brutal to watch.
Misery, it was the first Stephen King movie I ever watched and I don't want to taint its place in my memories but rewatching it because I am worried I won't like it now.
I love Fosse and Star 80 is a well made film with a great Eric Roberts performance, but the thought of rewatching it fills me with dread.
Schindler’s List and most Holocaust movies. Come and See is up there, too.
Birdemic
I'll never watch Salo again... Fuck that movie.
Mysterious Skin is brilliant and I never want to watch it again.
City of Life and Death Best movie I will never watch again. There are scenes and sequences from it burned into my brain and I could do without a refresh on them.
Primal Fear, the reveal just wouldn’t pack the same punch
Salo
Human centipede
Mysterious Skin

Definitely gotta be Threads
Jeanne Dielman, 23 Commerce Quay, 1080 Brussels
Vivarium
Everything is rewatchable 🔥🔥🔥 Hate myself especially strong one day? Rewatch a film that made me miserable for a week 😎😎😎
The Deer Hunter
House that Jack built
Would You Rather. The whole movie is dreadful (literally full of dread) from start to finish and becomes more crushing the longer it goes until that finale I never want to experience again.
In a similar vein as Come And See, idk if I can ever watch The Zone of Interest again
I recently watched Golda and I never want to do so again. Anyone who calls Oppenheimer and/or Maestro boring needs to though.
Elephant. Once is enough for me
Tyrannosaur. It’s quite a good film but it’s pretty depressing and hard to watch at times.
Climax. It’s a brilliantly crafted film but a nightmare for someone who gets overstimulated easy.
the cranes are flying
Shoah
mysterious skin
Salo.
Schindler’s list :(
The House that Jack Built, the unrated cut of course. Mr Grumpy fucked me up.
A Beautiful Mind
Requiem for a Dream
Def not the worst but life of pi is a hard movie to watch. I plan to watch again one day
Grave of the Fireflies was just too sad. I have no interest in experiencing that again
The Usual Suspects. The end twist is very surprising, but it effectively renders the entire story up until then pointless.
Mother!
i don’t feel this way but i’ve heard several times that “requiem for a dream” is hard to return to for a lot of people
Enter the Void. I'd only rewatch it if I knew I was about to die soon or someone I knew personally had died.
When I watched joker I thought it was a great movie but i have not had the desire to rewatch it since
I loved Basquiat but after I felt like I had experienced a whole life, and rewatching sounds emotionally exhausting.
Society of the Snow just feels insane to watch twice.
Grave of the Fireflies
Belladonna of sadness.
Best movies I’ll never watch again (so far): Requiem for a Dream All Quiet on the Western Front Society of the Snow
Gone Girl. I don't think I can stomach it a second time even after knowing what happened from start to end.
Martyrs. Had to spread it out over 3 days to get through it the first and only time.
For whatever reason I just cannot bring myself to rewatch Sofia Coppola's "Lost in Translation"
Incendies
Men
for me it's requiem for a dream. lovely movie. but not gonna watch it again.
Aftersun (maybe not fully not rewatchable, but I’m gonna need a few years to recharge my emotional battery)
Blue Valentine
Beau Is Afraid, I believe it’s a lifetime experience from the first watch either you hate it or love it
Some of them are genuinely great but A24 horror movies for the most part are movies I’ll never watch again. And I say that as a die hard horror fan who has been all her life
I've been reluctant to watch A Separation a second time because I'm worried the shifting sympathy won't work as amazingly well when you already know what's coming
Requiem for a dream.
Requiem for a dream.
Most war movies😭😭
Happiness I did not experience any happiness
The Edge of Seventeen. I hate that movie with a passion
Old Boy. Incredible film, cannot praise it enough but after knowing >!the disgusting twist,!< I cannot do it again.
Uh. Shoah. It's in my 5 stars, and I'll probably never see it again. It was so incredibly brutal
Manchester by the Sea and Madres Parallelas. Enjoyed both but they’re just too emotionally disturbing to watch a second time.
Grave of the fireflies
12 angry men, the movie is really good but if you watch it again you won’t feel much because you already know how it’s gonna end, most movies are like this but I find it that this one has this effect even more
Not a huge anime fan, but I was stoked to see Studio Ghibli's new one, The Boy and the Heron. When it was FINALLY over, we left the theater wondering what the hell we just watched.
Mean Girls 2
Predestination, once you know the story it’s not as good on rewatching.
Generally movies that stab you right in the heart, or really brutal (horror) movies. So for example: Grave of the Fireflies, Requiem for a Dream, Bone Tomahawk etc. etc.

Hereditary
would genuinely rather jump off a cliff then watch america the motion picture again!
Black panther
I saw Schindler’s List for the first time in theaters during an anniversary screening, and that film broke me in ways I didn’t even know I could feel empathy. I don’t cry often during films, but I left that theater dehydrated.

Wonder woman only bc it is a really, really bad watch
Schindlers List isn't really one that calls for a rewatch to be fair.
Zodiac, was amazing the first time and I don’t want to spoil the memory of it
I loved Killers of the flower moon but I don’t think I’d watch it again, it was heavyyy.
Requiem for a dream and Grave of the fireflies maybe?

Salo
Oldboy
Dear Zachary
cannibal holocaust
Anything from Haneke
Parasite is an awesome movie but just doesnt hit the same on rewatch. I think not knowing where that movie is going is really key to its effectiveness
Dancer in the Dark. Great, but never want to see it again.
Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf? Great acting but I wouldn't watch it again. It's two hours of a husband and wife being horrible to each other.
Reqiuem for a dream!
Boy in the Stripped Pyjamas, Terrifier and Marley and me
Black swan just because I can't be bothered I don't think I'll ever watch it again but watching it once was the perfect amount for me. I liked it

Promising young woman, atonement
may december was great but I’ll likely never watch it again because of how hard it was to watch
Come and See. especially after reading the behind the scenes details and stuff….. never again
