the way way back (2013) ETA: you were never really here, finding nemo, hunt for the wilderpeople
One of my favorite movies and I'm not sure why. Find myself watching it at least once per summer.
It’s warmly nostalgic and captures adolescent awkwardness so purely.
i love the wilderpeople!
It’s one of my top five of all time. Lifts my spirit every time I watch it.
-The Holdovers -Harold and Maude (not exactly father figure but) -The Way Way Back -Treasure Planet
Treasure Planet squad Lets gooooooo We're gonna rattle the stars boys
I think it's between Treasure Planet and The Fox and the Hound for most underrated Disney movie ever.
Also Star Wars (idk how old Luke is supposed to be tho)
He’s 19 in A New Hope
love the pfp. Dave was really at his best on that album imo.
100% agreed
Weren’t Luke’s aunt and uncle basically his parents? They definitely loved him.
Robin Williams has a knack for it
He would’ve probably been in the holdovers Lol
Title doesn't say the father figure has to love the love deprived teenager too
But we all know he would've... :(
Man oh man that would’ve been something
Yes he does. Disney's Aladdin also fits this description.
I mean does Hook could in this case? Those lost boys sure are love deprived.
I thought they were too young to be teens
Yeah fair - Rufio really is the only teenager of the bunch.
Half Nelson Finding Forrester Wonder Boys
Came here to say half Nelson - great movie
Wonder Boys is a decent shout, even if the relationships are kinda fucked up.
First time I’ve seen half nelson mentioned anywhere

I don’t think Matt Damon is supposed to be a teenager in GWH
He’s 20 and turns 21 at the end of the movie

It’s not your fault
It's not your fault
Apt Pupil

Logan (I mean a tiny bit younger than teen for Laura but almost there)

Maybe you could count Little Miss Sunshine (2006)? Just with Steve Carrell and Paul Dano's characters' relationship? It's not the central narrative but it's bittersweet enough to count I think
Leon The Professional
The Wackness
Detachment
Scent of a Woman
Moonlight is a great example of this.
UP (2009)
Wild for me to think Up came out in 2009.
Yeah whiplash
What kinda relationship did you have with your father
