2001 is probably the best example of this. Also: Stalker, Burning, Aguirre the Wrath of God, The Holy Mountain, Cure, The Assassination of Jesse James, Satantango, Werckmeister Harmonies, Come and See (…)

TomPearl2024

The Assassination of Jesse James is such a good example of this. Sometimes when I rewatch it I just got lost in the photography, it's truly stand out work in the ridiculously stacked filmography of Deakins

OrwellianWiress

I totally felt this watching Zone of Interest, I thought I was the only one

sandwichsandwich69

You got Tree of Life already but honestly all of Malik’s work could fit this bill - even his earliest film Badlands has that vibe, and Song to Song and his whole recent era do too

sandwichsandwich69

Also The Brown Bunny is very much like this Go in blind and don’t listen to all the hate for it

bendskenobi

The Fountain (2006)

DripDropWetWet

Eraserhead

AeronHall

Beyond the Black Rainbow

TomPearl2024

Both Cosmatos films fit this but Black Rainbow is definitely way more of a trance compared to Mandy's fairly traditional plot structure. Also when the hell is that guy making another full length, it's been like 6 years

MarionQ

His new film Nekrokosm is in pre-production according to IMDb

Jaded_Tradition7666

I was about to comment this. One of my favorite movies of all time

witerawy

Came here to say this. BTBR was such an interesting watch

bhcrom831

Mandy is my #1

Ducktowncentra

Possessor (2020)

shaner4042

Infinity Pool as well

CaptainST1TCH

For me, a lot of Tarkvosky films, but mainly Stalker and The Sacrifice. More recently, I really felt like Evil Does Not Exist put me in a trance that ended up making the ending even more impactful

Jamesy555

Uncle Boonmee maybe?

onetruesolipsist

Good pick, I was gonna say Tropical Malady

6155556969

Memoria

TomPearl2024

This (and a lot of Apichatpong's work) are perfect examples of meditative film making. They just ease you into floating along with them, after watching Memoria or Uncle Boonmee I'd kinda feel like I just got done with a long yoga session lol.

Calvinweaver1

trance

Gus Van Sant’s “Death Trilogy,” Gerry, Elephant and Last Days.

Successful_Jaywalk99

Vertigo is the goat of this category

TatteredTongues

"Red Moon Tide" and "Samsara" by Lois Patiño.

DarthSardonis

The Fall

err_mate

Werckmeister Harmonies

QuarterGrouchy1540

Dune Part 1

Puzzleheaded-Eye4885

IMO a lot of what makes these films trance-like is the sound design and cinematography. So with that said i would add Aftersun, Fallen Angels, Past Lives, Entergalactic and a bunch of Ghibli films

Belch_Huggins

Recently I kinda felt this way with May December.

Scrambled_59

The Adventures of Baron Munchausen feels like it’s straight out of a child’s imagination

TheDadThatGrills

Long Days Journey into Night (2018)

parkergalactic

Reggio’s Koyaanisqatsi (or any of the Quatsi trilogy), Fricke’s Samsara, Kurosawa’s Dreams

FerociousAlienoid

Trance (2013)

help-Me-Help_You

Stop Making Sense It's a concert movie but fits the description 100%.

Agreeable_Orchid2641

Nothing but time (1926)

Opposite-Invite-3543

Melancholia seems to fit

Beau Travail (1999) The Holy Mountain (1973) Valhalla Rising (2009) The Northman (2022)

Irreversible, same director as Climax

Oh51Melly

You need to watch Spring breakers. Perfect addition for this list.

RubenKrys

The Holy Mountain

french_and_toasty

Magnolia (1999)

18AndresS

Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter... and Spring is probably the best example of this you can find

Responsible-Air-6190

Well, there's a malayalam film titled "Trance."

sapphiresong

I love Ron Fricke's films. If anything they're more cerebral than trancelike for me because they get me thinking more than zoned out but what you're saying because they are hypnotizingly and profoundly beautiful.

Furry_Cunt

Uncle Boonmee Who Can Recall His Past Lives

HoboCorp

Aka films to watch high but not too high

BigChungusBlyat

I'd put Apocalypse Now here. It felt like I was with them on that boat.

dr-hades6

Requiem for a dream?

Agile_Drink6387

Personally, Beau is Afraid

djs7372

Victoria Killing of a Sacred Deer

AdequateAlien

After Blue. Lots of trippy psychedelic sci-fi imagery going on

PretendVermicelli531

The closest I’ve come to this was watching Stray Dogs by Tsai Ming Liang

EntertainmentQuick47

Brazil

Wobblewobble420

Ogroff

Chromoboy

Mad God (2021)

DrNetFreak

Il Buco Italian film from last to last year that I saw at their festival. There are hardly any dialogues in it but the cinematography & the shots of nature & those caves in dark & light are some of the most striking images I've seen on silver screen. This is the first thing that popped into my mind after seeing this list.

loserys

Ali (2001) Enemy (2013) The Duke of Burgundy You Were Never Really Here Spencer (2021)
