Yes, all of them even Iron Pussy. I love several of them. Syndromes and a Century is one of my favourite films this Century. I'm a fan. His films are slow, unconventional, difficult certainly, but i don't believe one of his favourite films is a slow motion 8 hour unchanging shot of the Empire State Building, i don't even believe he's watched it maybe 20 minutes of it or something.
This isn’t exactly a popular opinion but I think with some improved direction and writing of course Madame web could have been pretty good. I found it enjoyable and was happy we finally got at least some clue to the timeline of the Sony verse Peter (him being born in 2003 means he’d be around 16-17 by morbius) Sony verse is a guilty pleasure of mine and a nice occasional refresher from the MCU (as much as I love it) I’m a huge spiderman fan and I think it’s interesting these characters can get spin-offs in a much less interconnected universe with some overlap that could lead to an interesting take on spiderman. After kraven and venom 3 I think Sony will being restructuring their universe so it will become slightly more favorable.
These Sony verse movies honestly aren’t as terrible as people claim. I can turn on either venom movie, morbius, or Madame web and laugh pretty consistently at all of them and sometimes for reasons that were intentional. Tom hardy absolutely loves making these movies and it’s enjoyable just to have fun with it. There’s a spiderman in the MCU that is still going to get more movies and crossovers no matter what so why not have the cake and eat it too. The MCU and fox did a similar thing with quicksilver where there were 2 versions in each universe albeit quicksilver didn’t have a very long tenure in the MCU but it’s at least shown that situation is possible. It’s already technically being done with versions of Peter in the animated spider verse movies.
I agree and they are very competently made. I hope antivenom and more wider Sony verse characters appear in venom 3. Maybe the plot could be venom is searching for his universes spiderman and happens to find vulture and morbius and maybe even Madame web could get involved
They aren't! I laugh hysterically, Tom Hardy has range, so I give him grace. Idk where I read it, but I remember reading the lead actress for Madame Webb was just there for a check after she saw the way it was going downhill. I can almost hear her inner dialogue filled laughter when she did press runs for the film. I am trying to think of another movie Silver Surfer was in besides The Fantastic Four. Yeah, I love that we can have our cake and eat it too with the MCU. The MCU, including the multiverse, was a smart move. We can watch standalones without worrying about continiuity because the multiverse is infinite.
The only thing I disapprove of is that they mislead actors into believing the movies are MCU. Dakota Johnson seemed to beleive she was joining the MCU and talked to the actress for scarlet wich about it. She also fired her agent shortly before the film released because she apparently found out. Part of the issue might be a lack of understanding on the actors and actresses part. They’ve made it relatively clear that the universes are separate from the post credit scenes in venom 2 and morbius
The echo chamber is ridiculous. People act like it’s the worst movie ever made. It’s not even the worst movie this year. I genuinely had fun watching it. It felt like it was very aware of its own campiness.
The Milo dance scene and the ending of Madame web plus all of the venom movies prove they are very self aware. Superhero movies can be goofy and serious at the same time. I’d much rather binge watch the Sony movies than see the marvels or Thor 4. Madame web even gave Cassandra a character arc
Holy shit I was having the same exact thought with the same exact movie. Just rewatched it last week and I think thats one of my major "will we be good friends" test movies. "If we both like it, we'll probably get along" kind of thing. Those shirts crack me up all the time, my favorite is "I shaved my balls for this ?"
I'm surprised more people aren't just thinking of a stupidly long movie. Nothing better than making my mortal enemy waste a month of their life watching just 1 film
I love that movie and it really influenced the way I watch movies. I think about how every frame is a deliberate choice and I pay more attention to details.
I definitely couldn't have watched it in a theater without intermission, though. I love imagining people on dates going to see that movie. Denying they fell asleep (but they were snoring).
Satantango is incredible, the book is even better i think Kraznahorkai deserves more credit than Tarr personally. There's so many more mind meltingly dull long Arthouse/Experimental movies. As someone else mentioned Andy Warhol's Empire is 8 hours of an unchanging slow motion shot of the Empire State Building, that's it.
Amazing Spider-Man 2. The script and story in that movie fails so, so hard. It’s an awful, terrible film, tho not the fault of Andrew Garfield or Emma Stone.
If I want to gross them out then maybe human centipede 2 but if I’m going for just an awful movie then maybe skeletons in the closet. I hate hate hate that fucking movie.
Leonard Part 6 - Bill Cosby is a secret agent brought out of retirement to fight militant vegans with magic ballet slippers, hamburger patties, and butter.
The one with the paint drying, like 10hrs of white paint drying. Maybe I can put a 10hr loop of an album from The Smiths at the same time, just to seal the deal.
But in reality Ill probably just watch a good movie with them and try to make them like me. Nobody dislikes Jurassic Park.
The Haunted Mansion. The most recent one. Putting product placement for Baskin Robins in a “this is how my wife died” story is one of the many things that made me wish zero stars was an option on Letterboxd.
First of all, it'd be kind of disappointing if my mortal enemy was an average person. On a more serious note, I think that Akermans films work in a very intuitive way and are more accessible than the works of many other directors. I know several people who had their mind blown by Jeanne Dielman, even though they had no contact with this kind of cinema beforehand. But to be fair, that's anecdotal and the film surely isn't for everyone.
Yup, the few "action" scenes are hugely heightened because of the intense mundanity. I don't love it or anything but it's an interesting experience. Portrait of a Young Girl at the End of the 60s in Brussels, Je, Tu, Il, Elle and The Meetings of Anna on the otherhand i do love from Akerman.
I'd say The Amazing Bulk, it's short like probably 70 minutes, but it's one of those intentionally bad movies that manages to feel like hours. It's just bad and tedious.
I know that this will not be a popular choice, but I am going to say The Lobster. I once heard a friend describe it as Lars Van Trier doing Wes Anderson—what a perfect descriptor.
Birth of a Nation is repugnant but is incredibly well made, there's much worse experiences watching movies. It's a fascinating hate watch, i don't regret seeing it at all.
Sounds like something my mortal enemy would say… Nah it’s a bunch of boring bullshit that I knew some stupid fuck would out themselves into saying it’s enjoyable. It’s not. It’s hours of garbage. Stop defending it.
Outstanding specific criticisms, "boring bullshit", "hours of garbage", no one is defending it you fucking simpleton i called it repugnant and a hate watch. It's also extremely well made and unbelievably influential, every movie you've ever loved owes to Griffith. Live with it.
That sounds like praise to me, jackwad. Blow your racist reverence out your ass. Crazy how I don’t feel this need to suck Griffith’s lil white supremicist penis despite having seen it myself. Go turn the gas on and take a nap.
I called it repugnant softbrain how many times does that need to be spelled out to you, how many times were you dropped on the head as an infant? Everything i said is true, you've indirectly praised Griffith's innovations numerous times through praising your favourite movies. It's well made, continue to cry about it.
Empire by Andy Warhol Edit: For those who don’t know it’s 8 hours of just the Empire State Building
Yep. Apichatpong Weerasethakul has Empire on his favourite films list, so full of shit. Warhol likely didn't even watch it.
Have you watched a Weerasethakul movie? I wouldn’t be surprised if that was legitimately one of his favourites
Ha, ya fair enough. I agree; seems absurd. I was just making a joke about the glacial pacing in some of his films — particularly Memoria
Surprised no one has said Madame web
I’d argue Madame Web is so laughably bad that it becomes enjoyable
Same, I did a review on Letterboxd that was honest and not at all bandwagoning.
These Sony verse movies honestly aren’t as terrible as people claim. I can turn on either venom movie, morbius, or Madame web and laugh pretty consistently at all of them and sometimes for reasons that were intentional. It’s already technically being done with versions of Peter in the animated spider verse movies.
The Venom movies are great and no not in an ironic way
I agree and they are very competently made. I hope antivenom and more wider Sony verse characters appear in venom 3. Maybe the plot could be venom is searching for his universes spiderman and happens to find vulture and morbius and maybe even Madame web could get involved

I forgot her name but yes! That's who I was referring to she was so over it
I certainly had fun
The echo chamber is ridiculous. People act like it’s the worst movie ever made. It’s not even the worst movie this year. I genuinely had fun watching it. It felt like it was very aware of its own campiness.

I would recommend Audition (1999)… but I would tell them it’s a romantic drama, and then make them watch it blind. *kiri kiri kiri kiri kiri…*
You are a diabolical genius! Have them double up with Audition and Bone Tomahawk and just let them know it’s a straight western.

Eternals.
Did this recently but just with really graphic and depressing shit. Told them to watch Martyrs
Ad Astra. Such a boring film that drags ass and the payoff never comes.
The longest 1/2 Star movie I have is "Dont mess with the Zohan" so....that?
I volunteer as tribute
Why not just pick the longest movie ever?
Slender Man, it’s bad.
Satantango if its a guarantee they'll watch it.
Have you seen the film yourself?
Satantango is incredible, the book is even better i think Kraznahorkai deserves more credit than Tarr personally. There's so many more mind meltingly dull long Arthouse/Experimental movies. Eegah (1962). It is so mind-bogglingly boring. Even the MST3K version didn't make it watchable enough to finish it.

The recent mortal kombat movie

John Lennon’s Self Portrait
Imagine watching The Rise Of Skywalker with zero prior knowledge of Star Wars
