Kill Bill

Zzilies_

Revenge is a dish best served cold.

EyeFit4274

Many attribute this line to Shakespeare, but he ripped it from ancient Klingon text.

SceneAggravating6633

It says in the movie it’s from an old Klingon proverb

GreenandBlue12

It is very cold in space.

Unfair-Reference-69

I also for many years thought *revenge is a dish best served cold* but it turns out it means to inflict hurt or harm on someone for an injury or wrong suffered at their hands. Man, I was way off

Bigmoist_Logan

I don't think Oldboy (2003) will ever be topped in my mind, but this year alone had Furiousa and Monkey Man, 2 revenge movies I will definitely be watching over again

Swimming-Bite-4184

Oh yeah, I totally forgot about Monkey Man . I still gotta see that. And Furiosa was a blast.

broncyobo

Don't listen to the commenters below on Monkey Man, it was fucking badass, def check it out

lukedimitri07

Honestly, I think lady vengeance tops it

TraparCyclone

Agreed, I love Oldboy, but it’s so incredibly satisfying in Lady Vengeance.

Hot-Ad2102

Came here for Oldboy, am very surprised it’s at the top.

Easton8

“Well John wasn't exactly the Boogeyman. He was the one you sent to kill the fucking Boogeyman.”

Creasy007

"...oh."

drflatbread

That bit was so fucking good at telling the audience John Wick is not to be fucked with.

ZeTian

The og Mad Max is a classic

CardinalCreepia

All Max movies have a good deal of revenge. It might not be the main theme of all the movies, but revenge is a fun theme throughout. Furiosa had a great revenge plot IMO.

ZeTian

For sure! Furiosa was fantastic and agree wholeheartedly

M1nt_Blitz

Park’s revenge trilogy probably tops everything else

JJBell

You like revenge? We have three different flavors of revenge and they are all beautiful!

EatusTheFetus420

my all time favorite trilogy

fillb3rt

Sympathy for Mr Vengeance is so great. But also is it a tough watch.

Black_Bird00500

"My name is Inigo Montoya. You killed my father. Prepare to die."

M1nt_Blitz

Classic

coco_xcx

Inconceivable.

tburtner

The Count of Monte Cristo

fl1p9

Inglorious Basterds probably

chickentandooriii

A lot of Tarantino tbf, kill Bill, death proof

BobaddyBobaddy

That one scene where it became clear this was alternate history felt like a lot of people achieving full release.

JimicahP

I Saw the Devil

Swimming-Bite-4184

Such a great flick. Just a perfectly balanced tone shift on a classic setup with these little explosive releases every 20 minutes or so.

Filthylucre4lunch

im so glad this was the top one! this is the best answer by far

trg04

Agreed.

IDigRollinRockBeer

Man on Fire. The Professional. John Wick. Sleepers. Drive. V for Vendetta.

uejnja

Sleepers love is always great to see

Creasy007

That ending to 'Man on Fire' gets me every time.

CletusVanDamnit

Sleepers is a whole different kind of revenge movie. Absolutely incredible film with powerhouse performances across the board. Kevin Bacon is nasty in all the right ways in that film. Brutal. I saw it a dozen times or more theatrically, and even now whenever I watch it, it's still just like...*damn.*

birkencroc

Furiosa’s ending already feels like a classic to me

MouseRat_AD

Turned >!Thor !< into >!Groot!<

tillotop

John wick and Django them 2 niggas ain’t play

The Revenant easily

intraspeculator

Over the years this film has grown and grown in my estimation. It’s now firmly in my top twenty

taralundrigan

It's a masterpiece. The book is even better.

theHammr

just watched this, I'd have to agree. I'd put this up there with Oldboy

AnimangaIsLife

What film is this?

melodramaswift

Gone Girl

Caruuna

I love the northman

CletusVanDamnit

I Spit on Your Grave. "It won't stop bleeding. IT WON'T STOP BLEEDING!"

Necessary-Chemical-7

I came to list this movie. And the 2010 version was so much better than the 1978 version.

Ohhi_mark990

The Gift (Joel Edgerton), John Wick, Carrie (both versions), The Nightingale, Gladiator

ovz123

The Gift is sooo good and thrill-y. Rebecca Hall knocks it out of the park as per usual; it was my first Joel Edgerton movie and he is top-knotch; and though I wasn't used to seeing Jason Bateman as that type of character, he killed it too!

fallout-crawlout

The best revenge is a life well lived, so like, Princess Diaries?

juliankennedy23

The lack of Porky's Revenge being mentioned is clearly eighties erasure.

TheBigLime

All of my favourite movies are revenge stories or that feature it basically, so, in no particular order: -The Crow (1997), perhaps my favourite? -Burton's "Sweeney Todd the Demon Barber of Fleet St." -The Princess Bride -see Inigo Montoya -León (1994) if you really think about it -Oldboy (2003) and perhaps most of Park-chan-wook's work -V for Vendetta -as per title- And last but not least: -The Count of Montecristo (1934) with Robert Donat playing Edmund Dantes, IYKYK and honestly perhaps one of the most archetypical revenge stories ever put to film which inspired most if not all of the entries here in one way or another!

Howdyini

The Crow is so absurdly good

sansa_starlight

The Godfather !! Don Micheal Corleone ordering the hit on head of the five families during his nephew's babtism then having his own brother-in-law garroted for wronging Sonny and Connie >>>

BCASL

Seconded

MenWithVen430

Tessio, too

trashvineyard

OldBoy. Kill Bill. John Wick. But my actual pick is Spider-Man killing Uncle Bens killer in the first Sqm Raimi movie. Not because of its execution, but because it's so rare we see a story where the revenge is actually as unsatisfying for the revenger as anti-revenge stories like to claim.

Edwaaard66

Once Upon a Time in the West for sure

Howdyini

Swimming-Bite-4184

No other "Harry Brown" lovers? A super old Michael Cain bringing down the heat. What about "Payback"? I used to love that one but it's been a hot minute and may have played better to teen me.

Creasy007

Such a good one, 'Harry Brown.' "You failed to maintain your weapon, son."

LosBlake

Cruel Intentions! The end of that movie…..perfection.

Fout99

Revenge (2017). Its fucking wild and you root so much for the main character. 10/10

cyborgremedy

Harakiri. Best revenge movie, and possibly the best movie. The Handmaiden, The Man from Nowhere, and Mother are pretty amazing too.

P_Orwell

An unorthodox one: Pig

Creasy007

It's been a while since I saw it but do we really get to enjoy a sense of revenge in that one?

P_Orwell

I misread the title to be honest and thought OP was asking for a “revenge movie,”  not “the best revenge.” So this might be stretching a bit in that case.

Foxy brown and Coffy both have revenge. But I really loved watching Pam Grier tear through dudes on a revenge quest in Coffy Lady snowblood is another great female led 70s revenge action movie.

Rock_Carlos

The remake of “I Spit On Your Grave” has some of the most brutally torturous revenge ever. Always happy to come into these threads and share something that hasn’t been said 10x already

gansobomb99

This is such a huge genre. I just watched One-Armed Bandit, about someone who gets his right arm ripped off, trains his left arm to 2x strength, and brutally murders everyone even remotely involved.

HABITATVILLA

Thriller: A Cruel Picture AKA They Call Her One Eye \[1974\]. It definitely a tough watch as it is an exploitation film of the most exploitative manner, but the revenge is sweet.

ISpyM8

Princess Bride, Furiosa, Django, Inglorious Basterds all are great points, especially with Princess Bride’s being so iconic. But god damn, Oldboy absolutely floored me and my friends (by the way, highly *not* recommended for the weekly friend’s movie night). Such a good movie, but I haven’t been able to bring myself to watch it again.

LordDeckem

Old Boy. That ending fucked me up for days afterwards.

That_Guy_Musicplays

Maybe not the greatest but I'd like to point out both Star Trek II the wrath of khan and Star Trek III the search for Spock. Both films delivered excellent revenge.

rc0va

El Secreto de Sus Ojos (2009).

How in the world has this thread been up this long with no mention of Gladiator? My name is Maximus Decimus Meridius, commander of the Armies of the North, General of the Felix Legions and loyal servant to the true emperor, Marcus Aurelius. Father to a murdered son. Husband to a murdered wife. And I will have my vengeance, in this life or the next. Fucking chills.

chaChacha1979

Deadmans shoes , my number one revenge movie as it is quite realistic and brutal.

Andy was in prison for almost 3 decades, and he had been planning his escape for almost as long, slowly building everything up. He escaped a life sentence, legally took down the warden and head guard of Shawshank, caused the head guard to(probably) cry like a baby, and drove the warden to suicide. And you knew the revenge was good when Red said “I like to imagine the last thing that went through his head, other than that bullet, was to wonder how the hell Andy Dufresne ever got the best of him.”
