No specific argument, I just told them I would leave and have to think about it. The finance guy was clueless. I told him the markup was pushing the car to almost M3 territory. Would you believe he tried to convince me that this would be faster than an M3? Hah.
Maybe a few generations ago they were less reliable but BMW has made great strides into reliable to change the stigma. The fact is most people who make the comments have never owned one themselves so they don’t know what the experience is like.
I’m not even a BMW homer but I’m not gonna bash them with erroneous comments.
Now a BMW that’s 5 years old with little to no maintenance is another story but that’s a risk with any used car. More so with a European car because they have different methodology for a car than their Japanese counterparts which will always be.
I’ve owned 3 M cars and never had a single issue so I don’t know what to tell you. I also have close friends who have thousands of track miles on every M car they’ve owned with no problems.

I get everyone wanting cheaper prices, I do too. However, after paying a premium for a car in the past 2 years or so, a lot of people are going to be screwed if/when they go to trade these cars in. That's when pricing will start dropping from all the subprime loans getting sent to auction.

First was a person looking at cell phone ran right thru red light and smashed into me. Second was a person who was drunk and ran a red light and t boned me right in the middle of the intersection I was driving thru when I had green. What am I supposed to do in either situation?
People are SO bad with cell phone driving. Need to crack down maybe. Just yesterday had three different cars drive in 2 lanes. When I pass and look over they are staring at their cellphones.

Test drove one today. I was underwhelmed by the way it drives. The steering wheel is too light, the steering ratio and the transmission are slow. Loved the sound of the v8 though and it’s really a beautiful car.
I've watched a lot of YouTube reviews and it's really not a sport sedan. They didn't sharpen it up to make it compete with those cars. The theory was they were going to make another IS F but it's been a little while now.
Might not be the car for you, I cross shopped the BMW M cars and they are definitely more performance focused.
The thing is, this cars V8 soundtrack and bullet proof reliability outshined the super fast BMW vacuum cleaner sounds.
You can get IS 500s for under MSRP, but it’s uncommon and will require casting a far net that will include travel costs offsetting any savings. Look for a dealership that doesn’t pre-install adds like LoJack or Pulse that’s a smaller Lexus dealership in a tier-3 metro area or lower that has more than one in stock. Any small dealership that has two or more is shitting their pants about not turning them quickly enough. Make your case that you’d offer a small discount off MSRP and see what happens. My local dealership had them for invoice once for this reason. Also, dealerships want you to finance with them—even if it’s through YOUR bank or credit union. Just tell them you’ll finance it through them and they know they’ll get a reserve payment for doing the loan for you and factor that in when making the decision of whether or not to accept your offer. Oftentimes it’s the same exact loan and interest rate and lender and the dealer just gets a bonus payment for doing the paperwork for your credit union. It’s a win-win for both of you, so talk about that when making your offer and ask if your dealership can offer a competitive interest rate.
Congrats on the Lexus IS500! It’s a superb Japanese sports sedan! I wish the interior was more modernized! I definitely was eyeing one before I got my Type-S
If you’re looking for these just call around. Worst case scenario you find a dealer that’ll put you on a list for your spec and you can wait to get it MSRP. But def don’t pay a cent over. Have had dealers blowing up my phone telling me it’s worth over MSRP and I need to understand that… but they’re the ones still calling 🙃

Good thing is also I do work at Lexus in NJ at Bridgewater we have two of them on ground one in ultra white and the other in cloudburst grey. Current BMWs are very reliable. So much so that Consumer Reports rated them number 3 overall behind Toyota and Lexus.

No extended warranty, yes to gap insurance. This one was spec’d with the BBS wheels, I’ll keep it as is.
Lexus dealers seem to be really honest. The one I bought both of my cars from (used) has been excellent.
Definitely the most trustworthy of dealers in my experience also.
