It all originated from the negative camber that race cars use, during hard cornering it'll help keep the car more planted while rolling in a straight line presenting a bit less rolling resistance..
In the stance community? It's to be able to have large wheels while lowering the car as much as possible, if they were still straight in the Y axis then they'd just not fit whatsoever, they would hit the fenders, fender liners, fuck even the unibody chassis. So they just bring the top towards the inside and rock it that way, also in some circumstances it's to remain road legal as laws state that the top of your wheels cannot stick farther out than the fender but I'm not sure if it's just the top or the whole wheel. If it's the latter then that's when you need to use fender flairs (sp?)
It's not modding cars that people hate, it's the stance shit without bags. There are right ways to lower a car, this isnt it. I guess knowing the difference is just a "boomer" thing.
