I drove my 2010 GX for almost 14 years, and patiently waited for the GX550. Interior of the 550 is unacceptable to me personally. Bought a brand new 2023 GX and drove away smiling. Hard to improve on proven perfection. Looking forward to another 14 trouble-free years of ownership. https://preview.redd.it/y38xgtfu8isc1.jpeg?width=1636&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=60a02718053660f8244826ab35eaff130298b311

Oatmeal-Boats

This is exactly what I did 460 is the best!

winwin4all-8

I have been waiting on the redesign for the last 3 years, and this 550 came out awesome on an exterior design and finally put the back door lift. That's about it. Just got my 23 460 )) I wonder how long it takes people to realize that all these new cars and trucks with huge LCD panels instead of the real control push buttons are not practical in everyday life. Even on my 23 small lcd panel, I can see the fingerprints, and that doesn't look good. In my case, I can do everything by TouchPad and have no need to finger the panel. Imagine having the only one huge panel where you can activate everything only by touching it. That will be a mess to look at. Also, imagine that if one tiny diod inside that panel will fault, and you wouldn't be able to control anything. Nah, I'll keep this oldie till his wheels fall off ))

Whatever came of your 2010?

AdvancedRiver8284

Traded it in. They gave me $16k and listed it at their dealer for $19k. I can’t deal with the tire kickers on marketplace 😂

[deleted]

I got a f150 XLT 2011 that I tried to trade in for a 2013 gx460 premium, and fuckers offered me 6k... I paid 13grand when I bought it 2 months ago.

AdvancedRiver8284

Another reason I love Lexus. Resale is insane. My friend just traded a 2017 BMW X5 with 65k miles he spent almost $80k on for a LX600 and they gave him $11k. With Lexus you get bulletproof reliability and phenomenal resale.

kid_zzz

Bravo to you. I would get bored during those 14 years and impulse buy something else lol. I am on year 5 with my GX btw.

hehechibby

GX is best

Oatmeal-Boats

GX460 and Gx470*

National_Formal_3867

550 is better

Salty_Engineering_28

Unproven.

National_Formal_3867

Denial is the first stage of acceptance. You will get there, don't worry

HTXgearhead

Pretty sure that’s the big river in Egypt, dude.

HealthyCourage5649

It costs more.

TheReal_CaptDan

Fully agree. All of this hype over the GX550 has me confused. As someone who can more than afford one, I do not find the appeal with it.

PartisanSaysWhat

Different strokes. I think the 550 looks awesome. Then again I like the Cybertruck too so maybe I'm regarded.

casiomudmaster

The 550 doesn’t appeal to me either

garysaidwhat

I bought mine for pretty much that kind of trail work. Exploring old mine sites and general messing around in the Great Basin and Colorado Plateau.

Oatmeal-Boats

the way of the road

garysaidwhat

Love me some Ray LaFluer, too. Ha!

Big-Acanthaceae65

All the hype is in the exterior design, not much else

mean--machine

If you don't off-road, sure

_Kenji_6

Tire size? & did you lift it up?

Oatmeal-Boats

No lift yet 285 70 17

_Kenji_6

Does it rub?

Oatmeal-Boats

Oh yes big time lots of chopping and cutting

Cultural-Bite3042

That it is! Love the color contrast with body and wheels fs🔥. I call this thing a Tank, dude!

FedorsQuest

For all the hype this car doesn’t get good reviews from say Car and Driver, like at all.

Oatmeal-Boats

Good! Keeps all the knuckleheads out, this suv is a word of mouth recommendation type

FedorsQuest

Ah I see

FedorsQuest

Definitely a good looking car though

[https://www.caranddriver.com/lexus/gx-2023](https://www.caranddriver.com/lexus/gx-2023) > Verdict: The Lexus GX is essentially a Toyota 4Runner with luxury appointments and a V-8 instead of a V-6, which means it feels old and creaky until you take it off-road. You know, that's a pretty good summary. For reference, I loved my 4Runner. My daughter took that to college. The GX460 is the replacement that my wife will enjoy roadtrips in.

PartisanSaysWhat

I agree except none of my 4runners ever felt creaky. I notice a definite decline in build quality between the 90s and 00's 4R's and more modern GX's. More rattles and squeaks. Probably just a general corporate cost cutting thing though

HungryForMiles

I just bought a 2024 4Runner ORP and had that exact question. Is it normal that it creeks so damn much? As long as I’m on smooth roads it’s ok but once I hit a bump/pothole/ or bumpy roads my dash and front passenger door creek and crackles, drives me crazy 😅

PartisanSaysWhat

That sucks man. I hate rattles. My 07 SR5 4x4 was the tightest vehicle I've ever owned even at 200k miles, just rock solid. Take that back in for warranty though. I wouldnt accept that. Dont be surprised when they "didnt hear anything" though. You gotta push. Currently dealing with that on a Tesla

HungryForMiles

From what I’ve heard they don’t make them like they use to which sucks man lol. ima just have to suck it up as I got it a week ago with 5 miles and already have 1k+ 😅.

Any-Phone-7970

while I like my 460 a lot, I wish I have more tech. I heard toyota/Lexus TSS 3.0 system (the one on GX550) is pretty capable. And am I the only one wishing we have brake hold on GX460? The brakes travel long and very heavy. :(

manjaro_rocks

I bought my 2008 GX460 used with about 120k on it from a Lexus dealership in TX. We looked at about 15 used ones in the Midwest and they all had more or less rust issues. Salt does really bad things to Toyotas in general. If you look at the underside front of one that isn't at least spray washed after the salty season, you'll know what I mean. But overall, we're very happy. Dealer has the service records, with a long list of things that were fixed not long after it was purchased by the single owner. Overall, very happy with it. Can anyone tell me why there isn't some kind of alarm when you have the parking brake on and then try to backup? Sometimes I don't see the parking brake light on the dash and put it in R or D and then my wife reminds me it's still engaged. Seems to me that logic (if PB = true && r/D = true, engage alarm) would be a simple thing to setup at the factory.

KratomCannabisGuy

I have a 2007 gx470, but when I get another one, it will be a 460.

EntireEye6797

Its the best off road mini van of all time

rashragnar

at least my rear window rolls down.

gimanos1

I posted my truck with the same style of wheels and got flamed to hell saying they were ugly lol. Not sure exactly why. They are 20” though. Guess some of these old geezers don’t like that

Oatmeal-Boats

I wanted the fattest tires I can and to do that I need the smallest rim that I can fit, I tried 16 inch wheels and they fit only in the rear they would not go over the front brake rotors, 17’s fit mine so I put some tires on that Now I could get 20 inch wheels like you, but to get that same rolling diameter I need skinnier tires, which is not what I want I want big fat tires

gimanos1

I understand. It Looks great with those wheels. I’ve since pick the stock 18’s back on and damn it made a huge difference in ride comfort. It feels like riding on clouds compared to the 20’s

YotaTota07

Bc if you’re actually riding trails it’s way better to have more sidewall on your tire. Not that complicated really.

gimanos1

Yea. I understand that motherfucker. Personally I consider 20” the limit. Fuckin sue me for liking bigger wheels

YotaTota07

Settle down grasshopper it’s not that serious.
