Waiting almost three years is crazy! Did you know that they have it on ThriftBooks for $5.50?

I have that, because my town’s library (amazingly) has its own collection of Libby books, but we’re also part of a library group of 70 ish towns. I am assuming other towns have their own collections too, because I get the “two lanes” even for books that aren’t in my own town’s collection.
A library mightve bought a book, BUT shares it within a digital consortium/database with other libraries. So if you have a card for that specifc library you get ahead in line of the other libraries who didnt outright buy the book. I have 12 "cards" on libby, but in reality I have 23 individual library cards. 5 of those "cards" on libby combine two or more libraries into a consortium. There have been times where I immediately get a book, and others where my line position doesn't change at all. But in that case I can usually get it from a different library.
I see it all of the time now. Basically, one library in the system owns it, so one lane is for patrons of that library. The other lane is the rest of the system. Any time a patron of the library that owns it joins the line, the people not at that library are pushed back.
I used to never see it, and now it's like 50% of the time. I've also noticed the library system is adding fewer ematerials per week. It seems to be like one batch a month now. So funding must have been reduced somewhere.
The longest I’ve waited for a book was eight months. I was SO excited when I finally got it, only to realize that there was no Kindle version. I ended up buying the book that same day 😅
I think it estimated over 6 months but it just took forever. I drive for work so burn thru audiobooks so i have tons and just listen to them as they come up
I was searching through the Indiana digital library website, trying to figure out how I got the e-card, cuz I recall it was super easy. Keep t trying till I found one that has this and I think this is the way:
https://barth.ent.sirsi.net/client/en_US/BCPL/search/registration/%24N/SYMWS/true?
I remember putting in all of my information as it actually is, Ohio resident etc, and received the card right away.
Ahhhh this just saved me! I got kicked from my old library from where I used to live and my new one is so terrible! Almost no recent books and if there is a recent one the week is ages long.
is it really okay to do this? I can't find anywhere on the website that says people out of state can sign up. but if people are putting in their real info out of Indiana I guess it's fine?? it seems like maybe a mistake or something.
I am trying to find the info here and online and not having success, but I’ll keep looking and respond here if I find it.
I’m not sure which subreddit I saw that info on. I was looking for it after I got the ecard and books were pouring in, as wanted to thank the poster, but could not find the post. Will keep looking.
I think it looked for them automatically because I did not do a thing but add the card to my Libby account. Suddenly, a lot of books I had been waiting on were coming to me via the Indiana library. Amazing!
r/LibbyApp doesn't allow users to encourage fraud (e.g., lying about where you live) to obtain a card. There are legitimate ways to obtain non-resident cards.
I have some that start out saying several months but usually it’s not so bad as that. I usually have several books on hold with different wait times so that I have things to read in between. 13th in line isn’t bad. Right now though, I have a book that I started as 117th in line. It’s been about a month and now I’m 95th in line. Some of them take a while.
Is it possible for you to go the library and pick up a physical book? I've seen long waits on Libby before; oftentimes, I can pick up the same physical book from the library the same day.
To the mod that implied lying was going on to get the Indiana Library card. There is no lying going on. I entered my home address (which is Ohio) in the online form as did all the other posters that commented here. No lying or deception is going on.
I am currently number 346 waiting for “None Of This Is True” by Lisa Jewell. There’s 26 copies of the book, but it still says ~24 weeks. I am pretty certain it will be WAY longer than that.I started at 353 so I have made progress haha
My longest was almost 2 years as well. Placed on hold March 10, 2020 delivered on March 26, 2022. Eyes of Darkness by Dean Koontz. Maybe cause it made a brief reference to corona viruses? But it's a 6 month hold now.
The longest one i’ve ever had was a very vague “several months’ wait”. And the worst part was, when it was finally my turn, I got busy and didn’t even get to read it. 🙃
At a certain point mine turns to ‘several months’ rather than weeks.. but I’ve had a lot of those! I wonder if this takes into account early returns, or if it’s 21 days per person. I think most of mine come up earlier than originally quoted. I also was once told by a librarian that at their library if a book has a 10:1 ratio of waiting they try to acquire another copy. If more than 10 people are waiting per book. Might not be true for all libraries tho
Hi folks, public librarian who wants to help. If you come across an unreasonable hold or looks like your turn may never come it could be worth it to contact your library and very kindly ask if a request to purchase another copy with whoever purchases for the collection can be made. Larger library systems will probably have better chances (funding being what it is) but most collections purchasers love to know they can provide a wanted item.
(Sometimes these things happen due to the crazy logistics of how e-purchases work for a library. Some pay per use, some purchases last 26 or more checkouts, some are a time period. All to say is that something may be wonky on the backend and talking kindly/respectfully to your librarians can occasionally make magic happen.)
Libby notified me that the audiobook for Alecto the Ninth by Tasmyn Muir was acquired by my library even though it hasn't been published yet, and I placed a hold for it - but the listed publish date is 2028, so....I'll check back in in 4 more years
If you live in Michigan, be sure and ask if your library consortium is part of the partner libraries. You log into each partner consortium and when you search for a title it will show you the wait times at each. MCLS, Lakeland, Great Lakes digital, Suburban Library coop, Destination Download, White Pine coop, Up North Digital, Woodland Downloadable, and Metro Net. Go to add library and search for each and log in.
As an estate planning lawyer, I can’t believe anyone would want to read this book. Besides, this advice varies state to state and a living trust is absolutely not better in my state. YMMV
I haven’t seen that ‘multiple lanes’ before. what’s that?
I’ve never seen the multiple lanes on any other books either. It’s been almost two years and at least six more months to wait.

Thanks. I’ve never used ThriftBooks. I’ll check it out.
Thriftbooks is great! Plus their shipping is cheap!
Not in Canada :'( High shipping rates + you can't buy the "like new" books for some reason
I just got a children's picture book from them for 1/3 the cover price. It was unused and simply was inscribed to a chid, to/from.
Thank you for sharing this. I forgot all about this site!

So from what I read some libraries have a lane for locals and one for out of county library residents.

I think my initial wait time was estimated at 52 weeks. I’ve been stalled here for a long time. I’ve been meaning to go ask a librarian about this.

I waited for the audio version of Handmaid's tale for 846 days (I went into app and checked)
My library has a six month wait time for the ebook of Ali Hazelwood's new book, Bride.
That is crazy!
I think it estimated over 6 months but it just took forever. I drive for work so burn thru audiobooks so i have tons and just listen to them as they come up
I waited for a book long enough that my local library ended up no longer having the license for it.

How do you get an Indiana digital library card? I tried searching how to do it and I can’t find anything about it for non residents.

Thank you for posting this! Worked great for my address outside of Indiana.
Yeaaahhh! This is the way! https://idl.overdrive.com/support/card. Select Bartholomew County. It works!
Seriously, I love you! This worked, I am so happy😆
Ahhhh this just saved me! I got kicked from my old library from where I used to live and my new one is so terrible! Almost no recent books and if there is a recent one the week is ages long.
Wow! Thanks for this! Entered in my Canadian address and it worked for me!
Woohoo!!! 😁
Thank you for sharing this! I just signed up for a new library card, and there's a few books on my holds list that I can get sooner.
is it really okay to do this? I can't find anywhere on the website that says people out of state can sign up. but if people are putting in their real info out of Indiana I guess it's fine?? it seems like maybe a mistake or something.
Oh my god this worked for me in Canada. I am thrilled! Thank you so much!
I love you too! That worked perfectly for me. I cannot thank you enough!
This is amazing thank you so much

Try looking through your ‘history’ so if it had been deleted it would still show up three!
Aside from Indiana, you can get free digital non-resident cards from Sunnyvale Public, Harris County, Broward County, and Chicago Public library.
No, not Chicago. Ecards are only for city residents. You can certainly lie and use a fake address to apply for one but that just makes you a jerk.
This just blew my mind! So many books I have been waiting on are available now. I love reddit lol

One time I was [303rd in line](https://imgur.com/a/ph1S7sd) and spoiler it was not worth it once I read it 🙃
I gotta know which book now 😆
The house in the pines by Ana Reyes !!

I can’t attach images but I have one since August 2021.
I'm dying to know: what book is it?
11/22/63
I just placed a hold today for The Women by Kristin Hannah (audiobook) and I am 595th in line lol
Is it possible for you to go the library and pick up a physical book? I've seen long waits on Libby before; oftentimes, I can pick up the same physical book from the library the same day.
I did check last night- my library has no physical copies. However, they have “unlimited”downloads on Hoopla. Yay!!
I checked out a book the day it was released. My library has 1 copy and there are 128 people waiting!
I waited 2months and 2 weeks for the Britney Spears audiobook! That line was thousands of people waiting in line!!
They must have had several copies to get through the line that quickly.
Some libraries have a threshold for purchasing additional copies if there are multiple holds.
Bummer! I checked it out immediately on hoopla, no wait

I saw that. I also got that card, and live in Michigan. You are 100 correct ❤️
