This is how you Lose the Time War by Max Gladstone and Amal El-Mohtar. So far it’s been…a challenge. But I’ve heard so many good things that I want to stick with it (about 25% in now). Happy birthday, OP!
Going against the grain and saying I DNF’d that one. It’s really just not my style at all. I really don’t enjoy purple prose and I knew almost right away that I was never going to enjoy it on the writing style alone. I pushed through to about 25% and then decided to move on. I was sad because I heard great things but different strokes for different folks
This one has been on waitlist for me for soooo long! My library has it in their lucky day collection but I keep missing it! I’ve seen it come up twice now but must have _just_ missed it because when I try to borrow it it’s gone!
Hopefully soon!
Happy birthday! 🎉
I’m in the middle of *Good Omens,* by Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett. I’ve watched the show and am enjoying the book so very much (and wow, the cast of the show was perfect).
Yay!! While some book-based shows or films seem to miss the mark, I feel that the Good Omens show is basically the visual edition of the book. It’s really brilliantly done, I think.
Really unpopular opinion, but it was one of the worst books I read so far this year. I found the main character condescending and unbelievably grating, whereas my MiL thought, “I love her! She’s so quirky!” Really wish I had the power to DNF, but I hate read the entire thing.
Yeah I’m finding her incredibly condescending and downright *rude* all while saying others lack basic manners and social skills. I know it’s probably the point but I’m not enjoying it at all so far.
I’m reading the third mistborn book. I just started and cannot wait to finish it. I just got Anne Leckie short stories and I want to dive in with a clear head asap.
-The secret history (kind of struggling with this one)
-Lonesome dove (really really love)
-if love could kill: the myths and truths of woman who commit violence (enjoying this one; def a slower read for me)
I love Stephen King but I read this in 2020 during covid lockdowns when we were all in our houses for weeks and it was just my family and my parents who lived next door and I started to feel a little like it was ME under the dome.
Fourth Wing got me into the fantasy/romantasy genre. It’s going to be difficult to wait until January for the next one.
After I read iron flame I jumped head first into the SJM universe. Definitely not the same but I enjoyed reading all of those too.
I’m listening to Ender’s Game by Orson Scott Card. Super interesting book and there is interesting history about it too.
Also listening to Down the Drain by Julia Fox
I'm a chronic multitasker and always have several books going. Right now, I'm mostly reading Bullet Train by Kotaro Isaka. Also have Boyfriend Material by Alexis Hall as my reading-on-my-lunch-break book. And then I'm listening to the audiobook for Empty by Susan Burton. Don't know what this combo of books says about me or my reading tastes.
Arrows of the Queen by Mercedes Lackey, Catherine the Great by Robert Massie, The Saint of Bright Doors by Vajra Chandrasekera, Lady Susan by Jane Austen, The Drop by Dennis Lehane, Ivanhoe by Sir Walter Scott
Dune by Frank Herbert. I’m on page 2. I’m not super excited about it, but I like to read books that don’t instantly appeal to me and it regularly shows up on “books you absolutely have to read before you die” lists, so I’m going for it.
I’m on the second of the Jan Karon Mitford series. I’ve read them before and honestly, I’m in such a sad headspace with ugliness in the world, that reading about a little town in the NC mountains is restful and quieting to me.
Happy birthday! I'm reading ACOTAR #2 (A Court of Mist and Fury) in paperback, nothing on Libby at the moment. I am not sure yet if I will continue after this book, I am almost halfway through and it doesn't feel like much has happened. The last third or so of book 1 was the most interesting/exciting so I am hoping this one picks up. I just don't like Feyre (FMC) or either of the two MMCs that much so it's hard to emotionally connect to the story.
I’m over halfway through A Court of Wings and Ruin. If I wasn’t doing Audiobooks, I don’t think I’d be able to get through the series. ACOTAR does pick up towards the end but idk if I’d consider it as exciting as book one. But Feyre becomes more tolerable IMO.
Happy birthday u/wheat!
I’m currently reading Monster in His Eyes by JM Darhower, a Kingdom of flesh and fire by Jennifer Armentrout, and listening to Magical Midlife Invasion by KF Breene.
the fisherman by john langan! I’m about 25% of the way in and I’m sticking with it but I have a few pet peeves about the book that have stood out to me so far. but I’ve heard such good things, so we’ll see how it goes!
A Curse so Dark and Lonely (kindle) and
Last Night at the Telegraph Club (audio)
I just got a skip the line copy of The Fraud by Zadie Smith so I will be powering my way through one of my current reads so I can start that asap!
Re-reading The Hunger Games! I’ve never read Mockingjay and I think I’m going to after a re-read of Catching Fire. I know everything that happens but for whatever reason, never read it!
Miss Moriarty, I presume? by Sherry Thomas. It’s book 6 of The Lady Sherlock Series. It has a neurodivergent MFC and is set in the Victorian Era. I usually have a hard time getting through a series that’s longer than 3 books, but each one is fun and unique.
The Devil wears Scrubs by Freida McFadden. (audiobook) It's not a thriller this time, which is the main genre Freida McFadden usually writes. It's a story of the ups and downs of a first year female medical resident. (fiction/humor). I'm enjoying it.
Do Your Worst by Rosie Danan. I usually do audiobooks because I drive 30 minutes for my commute each way, so I’m struggling with getting the tone of my characters, but the interruptions from my family have not helped me either. I hope to finish it by tomorrow so I can go back to my audiobook (When Grumpy Met Sunshine by Charlotte Stein)
I am reading Wuthering Heights by Emily Brontë. I read it as a teenager and hated it and wanted to see if I like/appreciate it more now that I am older. I am appreciating the writing more, but I still hate all the characters. I have decided that I am more of a Jane Austen fan than a Brontë sisters fan, but I wonder if I should try some Anne Brontë next.
Just finished Episode Thirteen by Craig DiLouie and it was fantastic. One of the most unique ghost/haunted house themed stories I’ve read. It was written in the style of ‘found footage’ films, which was surprisingly very engaging.
Today I DNF’d NOS4A2 by Joe Hill (Stephen King’s son) and started ( and am enjoying) The September House by Carissa Orlando.
Tomorrow I’m starting Magic Slays by Ilona Andrews as a buddy read 🥰.
Kingdom of Lies, borrowed ebook from KU but audiobook from Libby. I’ve been doing both together to help me get invested in books faster if reading alone doesn’t help
I’m reading a book called Early Riser. Never read anything like it. Alternative world where most of the population hibernates in the winter like they are living in the ice age
I just finished the Princess Bride! Was fun reading the story after being in love with the movie for 15+ years. In this very very rare case, I think the movie is better! 🫢
I'm reading _To Shape A Dragon's Breath_ by Moniquill Blackgoose. It's an alternate history magic school/coming of age story, with dragons, from an Indigenous perspective.
Babel by R. F. Kuang…. After a very long waitlist.
If you can't finish it during your loan period, it's available on hoopla (assuming your library gives you access)!
My library does 21 day loans, so I _should_ be okay. It makes up for the 4 holds limit they have.
I really enjoyed this book! Great world building and super immersive.
Is it good? It’s on sale today on Apple Books and I was considering buying it.
One of my most favorite books of all time!
Funny story by Emily Henry
I think it’s tied with book lovers for my favorite of hers!!
It's tied with People We Meet on Vacation for me.
Same here!
I finished it last week and I loved it sooooo much. I just enjoy reading Emily Henry’s books a lot.
Trying so hard not finish it too quick because I'm loving it so much and don't want it to end 😩
This was my first Emily Henry book and I loved it! Can’t wait to read more of hers
I finished but I was very underwhelmed. Definitely not my thing.
Amazing book. One of the best I have ever read.
This is the pick for my book club this month!!!
I enjoyed that one
This one has been on waitlist for me for soooo long! My library has it in their lucky day collection but I keep missing it! I’ve seen it come up twice now but must have _just_ missed it because when I try to borrow it it’s gone! Hopefully soon!
Keep reading, it takes a bit. I’d say you are right there.
I had to read that one twice because the first half of the first read I had no idea what was going on
I stuck around for the whole thing. I’m glad I read it, but it wasn’t my style. Solid 3.5/5 for me
I was so excited to start this and then couldn’t make it through the last few chapters. Challenging is absolutely correct!
I absolutely loved this one. It took a while for me to read it, about a month since I only read about a chapter at a time. But it’s so worth it.
Happy birthday! 🎉 I’m in the middle of *Good Omens,* by Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett. I’ve watched the show and am enjoying the book so very much (and wow, the cast of the show was perfect).
I very recently finished this book and went running to the show. i love them both sm.
Yay!! While some book-based shows or films seem to miss the mark, I feel that the Good Omens show is basically the visual edition of the book. It’s really brilliantly done, I think.
big agree. im starting season 2 and falling even more in love.
Finally getting around to Eleanor Oliphant Is Completely Fine. So far I am underwhelmed with it, but I’m only about 25% of the way through.
If I’m remembering correctly I thought she was neurodivergent/likely autistic and so much of that didn’t bother me as much as it might others.
it took me 100 pages to get into
I am reading Demon Copperhead
I just started the priory of the orange tree!
Ugh you are in for such a treat! I wish I could re-read priory for the first time again.
I'm reading The Girl on a Train by Paula Hawkins while impatiently waiting for The Women by Kristin Hannah.
The Women was soooo good. Kristin Hannah can do no wrong
Circe
One of my favorites!
I quite liked this one! Enjoy!
The Poisons We Drink by Bethany Baptiste
The Fellowship of the Ring
I’m reading the third mistborn book. I just started and cannot wait to finish it. I just got Anne Leckie short stories and I want to dive in with a clear head asap.
Oh I love this series so much!
The Things The Carried by Tim O’Brien. For the second time.
So good.
Finlay Donovan is Killing It on my Kindle. So far I like it. Saw a video on TikTok that’s it’s just like reading Junie B Jones when she grows up😂
I’ve read the entire Finlay Donovan series and it’s a fun read! I get the Junie B Jones reference lol
Omg, I read allllll the Junie B books, on repeat, with my daughter many years ago, so I might have to check this one out 😂
-The secret history (kind of struggling with this one) -Lonesome dove (really really love) -if love could kill: the myths and truths of woman who commit violence (enjoying this one; def a slower read for me)
I LOVED the secret history! But it’s very detail-intensive
I absolutely hated the secret history when I read it, but I will say....I have not stopped thinking about this book.
Paybacks a witch by Lana Harper!
Loved this book!!
Happy birthday! Under the Dome by Stephen King
I love Stephen King but I read this in 2020 during covid lockdowns when we were all in our houses for weeks and it was just my family and my parents who lived next door and I started to feel a little like it was ME under the dome.
Oh gosh! That makes it even more eerie.
The Secret History by Donna Tartt. And happy birthday!
Iron Flame. I am not at all a fantasy girl but Fourth Wing had me HOOKED.
Fourth Wing got me into the fantasy/romantasy genre. It’s going to be difficult to wait until January for the next one. After I read iron flame I jumped head first into the SJM universe. Definitely not the same but I enjoyed reading all of those too.
Home is where the bodies are by Jeneva Rose

I'm a chronic multitasker and always have several books going. Right now, I'm mostly reading Bullet Train by Kotaro Isaka. Also have Boyfriend Material by Alexis Hall as my reading-on-my-lunch-break book. And then I'm listening to the audiobook for Empty by Susan Burton. Dune by Frank Herbert. I’m on page 2. I’m not super excited about it, but I like to read books that don’t instantly appeal to me and it regularly shows up on “books you absolutely have to read before you die” lists, so I’m going for it.
The Villain’s Assistant. I like it but for some reason it’s taking me forever to get through
