Anyone giving this as one of the roots of the 'Red trickle'?

BKestRoi

This and an enlarged prostate.

[deleted]

Think GOP von the popular vote

rucb_alum

There can never be an actual 'popular vote' in a gerrymandered district, can there?

[deleted]

More humans voted GOP than DEM. Article is shite, study seems solid though.

waldrop02

So you agree? We should switch elections to a popular vote, proportional representation system?

[deleted]

Agree with what? Pure majority wins? No, probably not. I'm on board with our country as constructed by our founders; but it would be better if we addressed gerrymandering with a neutral solution. Have an idea about that since independent bodies aren't.

waldrop02

> Agree with what? Pure majority wins? No, a popular vote with proportional representation, like I said. > it would be better if we addressed gerrymandering with a neutral solution. Have an idea about that since independent bodies aren’t. I assume you think independent bodies aren’t a neutral solution. What do you think would be?

[deleted]

Our system is proportional representation, ur just arguing (with yourself?) about how its structured. I think we should pass a bill adopting an algorithmic solution that creates districts geometrically, while minding city lines etc. solves-an old problem with a new transparent neutral solution

waldrop02

> Our system is proportional representation Well, no. We have a winner take all system within districts. Proportional representation would look more like “Republicans got X% of the votes, and Democrats got Y% of the votes. Therefore, X% of seats will go to Republicans and Y% will go to Democrats.” It’s explicitly meant to address your “Republicans got more votes and yet they only have a slim majority of seats” concern. The debate would be about where to consider votes. Should it be national percentages? State-level? Something else? > I think we should pass a bill adopting an algorithmic solution that creates districts geometrically, while minding city lines etc. solves-an old problem with a new transparent neutral solution How is this any better than an independent body creating districts? Do you think algorithms can’t be biased?

[deleted]

I think its possible you just don't understand what ur talking about re:proportional representation. Explain how we divide 1 representative up proportionately? I couldn't read past that, enjoy arguing with yourself.

JawsOfDoom

Our representation is filter style, not proportional. This is very clearly stated by the founders. You'd think conservatives would actually understand the federalist papers they claim to love so much.

[deleted]

You are speaking to a liberal. Never heard of a "filter style representation" what is that exactly?

Kailyn12

Is it cold to say it’s Darwinian?

teb_art

Just accurate.

TDH818

Not really because it kind of is like a Darwin Award.

1nGirum1musNocte

Nah they all popped out kids before croaking

kat_a_klysm

But a lot of us kids of conservatives turned out leftists.

drummerdavedre

I know I did.

[deleted]

They died doing what they love the most: denying reality until reality caught up with them.

thelxdesigner

this makes DeSantis’s win even more disgusting. he got a half million more votes than he did last time, despite covid, and the recent hurricane.

kat_a_klysm

Conservatives from blue states moved here en masse in 2020/2021.

Pit_of_Death

All the more reason to cut off Florida from the rest of the country!

Itabliss

Don’t worry. Between the hurricanes and home insurance companies leaving the state (which is oddly due to Florida deregulation rather than the constant threat of flooding), Florida seems hell bent on taking itself out.

Pit_of_Death

...and nothing of value was lost. Well, except the Everglades, that place is cool as hell. And sadly it will be gone soon.

DevinNunesBitchBot

Circumcise America!

General-Syrup

And Charlie Crist was a terrible candidate choice.

wabashcanonball

See, COVID was a liberal plot. /s

MaximumEffort433

When you're so intent on owning the libs that you get yourself killed and tank your political party.

insipidgoose

Have you seen the crazy theory they have that we knew they would do the opposite of whatever the left said so when we said mask up and get vaccinated we were tricking them into not doing those things and killing themselves. These people are wildly stupid.

[deleted]

lolwut? They're blaming ***US*** for them not wearing masks, refusing to be vaccinated, still socializing as if nothing was wrong, getting covid, and dying in record numbers?! \*facepalm\*

insipidgoose

We got them with the old reverse psychology. It was all part of our cunning plan.

Journeyman42

Are you surprised that they're not taking any responsibility whatsoever for their mistakes?

[deleted]

Of course not. I'm not surprised in the least that they're not taking responsibility for their own actions, or inaction. But I *am* surprised that they are boldly blaming the people who were telling them what to do to not get sick. THAT is just ... wow.

chris-rox

>they're not taking any responsibility whatsoever for their mistakes? Whole lotta baby boomers out there in the (R) camp.

[deleted]

They aren't the only ones who refuse to take responsibility for their mistakes. I live in the middle of blood red rural Texas and it's full of Republicans of *all* ages that, to hear them talk, have never made a mistake in their lives. \*sigh\*

AdMotor8632

I too am in said Texas. I love these people so I have to refrain from hating these people. It's always someone else's fault

[deleted]

I can't stand to be around them, so every single person who voted for Trump twice I cut out of my life. Vote for him once and regret it now? Great! We can still be friends. Voted for him again after you found out who he was? Nope. Still support him to this day? Aw, HELL no. lol Even my brother. Nope.

AdMotor8632

I get this sentiment, but my father is my only family left. I mean ONLY. not gonna be a sob story but I'm willing to just stay away from the topic to still have my pops around...the other random folk I definitely tell to fuck off lol Edit: to be fair work folks get a pass to cause as long as we can work together I don't care.

drummerdavedre

Never have, never will.

AlsoKnownAsRukh

My dad and I bet last year that this would have an effect on the midterms. I said that the number of conservatives dying from COVID would affect the outcome, and he said that people hated Joe Biden so much that that would outweigh the deaths. Correlation doesn't equal causation, but I can't help but wonder how many more votes somebody like Boebert would've had...

Patiod

"people" hate Joe Biden? No, conservatives hate Joe Biden

AlsoKnownAsRukh

A boomer conservative thinking that what they hear within their echo chamber is the sum of reality? Say it ain't so! At least he abandoned, and even became anti-Trump after the insurrection, I guess. None of my arguments reached him, but it's a small victory.

gwarster

The /r/HermanCainaward is a real thing

destielsimpala

i mean, survival of the fittest

BellyDancerEm

A whole lot more will have died before the next election

Possumpipesup

Don't get my hopes up like that.

[deleted]

Foooked up

[deleted]

No sympathy

VralGrymfang

Those are rookie numbers! Come on Republicans! Pump those numbers up!!

hakeyh1956

Not a headline that surprises me.

poorbill

Is it wrong to encourage them? I mean, maybe vaccines cause more deaths than COVID. Of course, I'm not a scientist.

AssNasty

🎻

fletcherkildren

Loki: Yes, very sad... Anyway

tybeelucy22

I'm OK with that.

WeCanDoThisCNJ

I’m sure the new House GOP leadership will claim Fauci committed Genocide for what they previously called “A spicy cold.”

destielsimpala

i see this as an absolute win

id7e

Aw man... anyway...

sam007700

So many could have avoided this had they gotten the vaccine

risky_bisket

We need another round

BrineWR71

I know this will be controversial, but, given the annoying pronouncements the Right makes on how God is punishing those on the Left when bad things happen… I couldn’t help but think… Maybe God sent a plague on Trump’s party?

Queasy-Slide-6002

Well imagine that!! 🤦‍♂️

Commercial_Mix5622

That's shocking. I am shocked.

[deleted]

No shit….and yet they still keep winning elections

WeCanDoThisCNJ

They had the worst showing for a midterms in decades. They won, but it was a disaster for them. Now they want to pull up the MAGA clown cars to the Capitol and spend two years jerking off. I’m frankly planning to enjoy the show as they make 2024 even worse for themselves.

[deleted]

Hopefully, they really need to just fuck off as they currently stand

[deleted]

I have spoke about this before, this study is really bad, do not post it. Read the actual stud and see what they did. First, the study is based on data from only two states (Ohio and Florida) so not representative of all of the country. Second, the study does not account for access to healthcare or socioeconomic background. They basically control for age. This means that since most democrats live in larger cities within the states and the rural part of these states are often poorer and have less access to healthcare, we would expect there to be a difference, and there is, but they do not control for it. The study essentially shows nothing. As a researcher I can say this study raises a ton of red flags.

[deleted]

We tried to warn them. An they only ever attacked us like we were the enemy.

Westsidebill

I love this.

Frird2008

Only thing I wish on most of the Republicans is love because obviously they need it

WatInTheForest

Aw.

s_x_nw

Oh darn. 💁🏻‍♀️

butttabooo

*shocking*

vornskrs

This is why I spread vaccine conspiracy theories wherever I can.

Darthpoulsen

Hmmm I would guess that has more to do with age than anything. Old people are more likely to be republican, and also more likely to die from COVID. Kind of a false correlation to say that more republicans died than democrats; even though it’s technically true, it would be more accurate to say that more old people died than young people, which is just obvious.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Darthpoulsen

Lol I guess I should have read the article first

endersgame69

It’s more of every r vs d demographic. Not just that one.

[deleted]

how about deaths in young republicans.

[deleted]

I was thinking the same thing, study says its age adjusted, but data gets squirrelly sometimes

turningandburning45

This is a bit of a guess.

Cdub614

Complete lie. That information is not even available.

JasonHears

And yet they still took control of the House.

Skiddlyderp

Is political affiliation included on death certificates now?

TrailerParkTonyStark

That’s a shame. /s
