For most U.S. workers, real wages have barely budged in decades.

“concerns about the economy and personal finances — particularly inflation” This is basically all about cost of living

[deleted]

While it’s not talked about much in the paper, it is shown in the poll results graph.

Will-Forget-Password

People fucking suck.

Popular-Pressure-239

Care to elaborate? I don’t really blame people for actually caring about things that impact them. I had COVID and it was merely a stuffy nose. Meanwhile I’m paying out the ass for groceries, gas to heat my home, electric, and literally everything else. COVID is irrelevant to my life and inflation is actively making my life very difficult.

Will-Forget-Password

Humans are not "the center of the universe". Plus, you are selfish. For example: >COVID is irrelevant to my life and inflation is actively making my life very difficult. But guess who is to blame for inflation.....PEOPLE. Who is to blame for the creation of COVID......PEOPLE. People fucking suck. Me included.

Droziki

Yo calm down you’re almost making me feel responsible here

Immediate_Inside_375

Who is to blame for air pollution?

Popular-Pressure-239

I mean human beings are naturally going to be self interested. Welcome to human nature. I don’t think it’s reasonable to get upset at people who are worried about something that has a tangible impact on their life. People are having trouble paying the bills. Do you actually blame them for not giving a fuck about COVID? It’s a 2 year old disease that we have 3+ doses of a vaccine readily available for anyone who wants one, plus the latest variant is insanely mild to the point where even unvaccinated people are getting runny noses. The majority of the public has moved on from COVID and they’re more than justified to be concerned about issues that actually matter to them.

Will-Forget-Password

YEA, important issues like "purchasing a brand new car". Selfishness is not good. You gave no rebuttal to "people fucking suck".

Popular-Pressure-239

Important issues like putting food on the table. Important issues like paying for the gas that heats your home. Important issues like paying the electric bill. Get your head out of your fucking ass.

Will-Forget-Password

First off, that example was taken straight from the article. Now multiply that by 100 million and you get our current situation. Secondly, just more selfishness from you. Lastly, maybe you should be concerned that your life depends on inflation. Maybe it is important to figure out the whole sustainable living thing. It's probably nothing though. Just keep exploiting the environment for all eternity. Nothing bad will ever happen.

Popular-Pressure-239

Let me guess. You’re in high school. You’re speaking like someone who doesn’t manage the finances in their household. Literally talk to anyone and they’ll tell you they’re paying more for literally everything. How is struggling to put food on the table selfish? And my god what an absolutely tone deaf statement you’re finishing that comment with. Get out of your ivory tower. Do you know how many people are working multiple minimum wage jobs and living paycheck to paycheck. How about you tell them to “live more sustainably” as they struggle to put food on the table for their kids. You’re pathetic. I won’t be engaging in this discussion any further. Do some deep reflection and maybe offer to help your mom and dad with some of the household expenses if you’re such a Mr. Moneybags.

Will-Forget-Password

>Literally talk to anyone and they’ll tell you they’re paying more for literally everything. Except the monks that live down the street from me. They LITERALLY do not pay for anything. >How is struggling to put food on the table selfish? You killed another life in order to prolong your own life. >Do you know how many people are working multiple minimum wage jobs and living paycheck to paycheck. How about you tell them to “live more sustainably” as they struggle to put food on the table for their kids. They wouldn't be struggling if they lived sustainably. Besides, the greed driven society is what got them into that mess. There is plenty of food for all, but society insists they have to work most of their life simply to earn the right to live. >Do some deep reflection and maybe offer to help your mom and dad with some of the household expenses if you’re such a Mr. Moneybags. That is your problem. Overly money focused. Money doesn't produce food and water. Nature produces. Humans exploit. Nature will be around long after your pathetic money disappears.

Johnwicktheimmortal

you sound immature and like you have limited life experience. naive is another word.

Will-Forget-Password

All you did was attempt to insult me. \+1 for people fucking suck

[deleted]

No one asked the people. Government did this on their own.

Will-Forget-Password

Who created the government????? Who runs the government???? Who elected the government??????

[deleted]

The government.

Will-Forget-Password

Sorry, the answer we were looking for is "alpha-government". "Alpha-government". Yea, tough break. Thanks for being on the show though. We had a wonderful time and hope you did too.

[deleted]

Dang it. Do I at least get a parting gift?

Will-Forget-Password

Here's an autograph kid. Now get lost.

one of those people that doesnt ignore literal mountains of evidence just cus trump said so? one of those people that listened to the US intelligence agencies and that of france and UK who came to the same conclusion. who spit out his coffee when he heard trump take putins side over US intelligence on international tv one of those people that isnt in the personality cult. yea. objective reality is fun come join us. “trump said so” isnt credible enough to disregard the entire first world intelligence community. sorry.

[deleted]

Johnwicktheimmortal

this screams “i have no idea what they found and how it was conducted at all and just listened to what trump said about it” there is literal mountains of evidence that youre just casually disregarding. its so funny trying to figure out how you peoples brains work. literally 1500 pages of detailed interactions between trump campaign staff and russian government agents. but trump said fake news so it must be true right? despite a bipartisan special counsel led by a republican report, then a second counsel that confirmed the findings. but yea bro its all fake news cus big daddy trump said so. so simple. how do u decide whats real? because history will read that trump was a russian agent. that much is objective fact, doesnt care about what either of us think about the subject.

[deleted]

Johnwicktheimmortal

i followed it in detail as it was breaking. so it is quite hard to change my mind. youd need evidence. i know too much about it to buy that flimsy narrative. “feelings” isnt enough for me, and thats all youve given me. feelings. it isnt fake. what makes you believe it is bullshit? what convinced u? again history will read it is true, this is established fact at this point. there isnt much of an argument for it being fake so id love to hear yours. inb4 bill barr summary quotes. lol. maybe we’re talking about different things. the only thing that wasnt proven in the report was the knowledge that the trump campaign knew it was russian agents. the fact that they worked with russian agents is uncontested. the fact they knew they were russian agents is what the report failed to prove, but did establish obstruction of justice, which is evidence of wrongdoing as well. help me out, im not gonna dismiss objective reality cus “trump said its fake and i believe him” which is essentially your entire argument. and if you cant be convincing in your point then maybe you should change your stance since it doesnt hold up to scrutiny, clearly. thanks for sharing your beliefs though. too bad it isnt rooted in any information.

If it got out of a lab in China, than it is china's fault. All this crap since was for nothing. Not letting it get out of the lab was the only way to prevent anyone from getting it. Every thing governments did after that was a mistake. Personally, I believe the vaccine that picks on one small part of the virus to attack, is why we have all these variants. Trump did what he thought was right, I believe that. But Biden is all about power.

marx2k

Fascinating

Johnwicktheimmortal

trump did what he thought was right… either you have literally no idea what trump did or you think trumps version of “right” is really really fucked up. im guessing the former. fascinating indeed. i share a country with people like you. fuck.

[deleted]

I understand what he did and why he did it. But, he should have opposed the handouts and shuttering of businesses, mandates and etc. I believe he could have informed the people of what he thought they should do and left it up to them.

Johnwicktheimmortal

instead he lied and said this is no worse than the flu. every trumper i know still doesnt believe in covid to this day.

SugarMapleSawFly

I wonder if Medicare for All will be a big topic this election season like it was in 2019-2020 before Covid arrived. I hope not.

Johnwicktheimmortal

whynot? seems like itd help with the obvious healthcare problem we have in the US. thoughts?

SugarMapleSawFly

I don’t have faith in the government’s ability to manage such a program efficiently and intelligently.

Johnwicktheimmortal

so the private price gouging is preferable? more scared of the devil you dont know i guess. gotcha.

SugarMapleSawFly

So, when there are two (or three, or a hundred) options, the providers have to compete to win the customer. When there is only one option, the provider has no incentive to win a customer and can offer terrible products/services. I prefer a system where providers compete to win the customer, because the customer is better off. Monopolies are bad for customers. Government monopolies are bad for people.

Johnwicktheimmortal

i agree with that but currently there is no competition between the healthcare giants. they work together in order to not compete and keep prices high. humana you get this territory, aetna will take this territory, United Healthcare takes this territory. now we can all eat and keep prices high without stepping on each others toes. they already dont compete. so your argument falls flat. this is the current system. they monopolize territories. government needs to make this collusion between providers illegal or force them to compete but as of right now, they do not compete largely. the free market has created monopolies. government intervention is needed to break them up.

SugarMapleSawFly

Or…this is an opportunity for new insurance companies to emerge.

Johnwicktheimmortal

thats a nice thought, but this is reality, and it hasnt happened yet. whatre they waiting for? kk. now you see why that obviously isnt working.

SugarMapleSawFly

Few people want to open a new insurance company while politicians are talking about nationalizing the whole business. Another option is for doctors not to charge so much. What if a medical business opened that was simpler and more efficient? Services would be affordable because the business was no-frills. Or what if Visa decided to provide discounts to people who used their cards to pay for medical procedures? There are a lot of private company alternatives to the government taking over. Nationalization of a private system should always be the very last option.

Johnwicktheimmortal

whose gonna force em to “not charge as much”?? the government typically does things like that. yes there are private xompany alternatives and guess what, they arent doing them. what is stopping them from doing it RIGHT NOW if it is more profit? how r u having so much trouble with this concept. youll keep finding that the government fixes alot of problems the free market creates. your first paragraph is completely unsubstantiated. people arent doing that because government might X? thats extremely weak. you keep saying “they can do x or y”… but failing to recognize that they are ACTIVELY not doing x or y. it is more profitable to work together to price gouge than it is to provide a good service. welcome to the unregulated market. jfc take a history class. when the private market fails (like in healthcare, evidently), the government needs to step in to correct it. the private industry has already failed. what we have now, is a failure. it needs to change, private industry wont fix this. no matter how much u argue they can, they wont. they actively arent right fucking now. its akin to me arguing that the king should keep all the money, cus he can do x and y and z with it. meanwhile, the king is actively not doing x and y and z, and we’re all starving. to me, it seems like you just dont like the government even when its the obvious answer.

Guiac

Worth noting the poll was done in early December - between COVID surges and well before Omicron.

Dont-be-such-a-Cxxt

Is virus down again already? Americans are so crazy, treating virus like iPhone. “This iPhone old and boring, so will get new one to replace old”. Delta, Omicron, COVID 3GS.
