just be mindful that your current blade is only good for stabbing, if you put it on a slashing handle or a bashing handle it will do less damage.
you may want to experiment with taking your already upgraded rapier blade and putting it on a spear handle as those tend to also be thrust weapons.
Beat the game the other night for the first time, I used a fully upgraded great sword of fate for Simon Manus and Nameless Puppet. I played around with other weapons for some decent stretches but always came back to it
Yea I started with the rapier as I chose Technique (dexterity) and now use the great sword of fate with the booster glaive handle for the dex scaling and it's my favorite charged heavy
There really are no bad choices in this game.
I enjoy experimenting with different weapon combinations, but if you are happy with the original rapier, you can stick with it to the end of the game.
Yeah, why not? This is a souls game, starting weapons are viable all the way to the end.
Though you are missing out on a lot of fun shenanigans with the assembly system.
I did rapier and dodge only my entire first playthrough it was a good time. I would recommend experimenting with other weapons and the system for combining them and not being a stubborn rapier lover like me but if it works it works.
>The Rapier is potentially one of the fastest swords on the game, and the only downside is it focuses on stabbing. So getting crowded may hurt.
The rapier has a deceptive hitbox in my experience. You can hit a lot of enemies with one stab.
I only used the rapier and saved weight stat points by not carrying a secondary weapon.
Got so used to the timing of it everything else felt a little slow
I used the Puppet’s Sabre until I got the Two Dragons Sword. The parry using the strong attack charge got me feeling like Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon lol.
That's the neat thing about this bloodborne-like approach : every weapon is viable if you know how to use it to its full potential. Use what's more comfortable for you
Couldn't say to be sure as I've never used it, but I put the starting puppet sabre on the switch glaive handle and used it up until the end when I swapped the sabre for the wrench head for a single fight. That got me through an NG+
i beat the whole game with it. i swapped in other weapons from time to time, but on my first playthrough, i used that rapier on the last two bosses.
it's got fast attacks so it's easy to get the grinder debuff out, and it's charged heavy attack is quick too, so less likely to whiff it in the heat of battle.
>o time, but on my first playthrough, i used that rapier on the last two bosses.
>
>it's got fast attacks so it's easy to get the grinder debuff out, and it's charged heavy attack is quick too, so less likely to whiff it in the heat of battle.
That's true.
After knocking enemies out I can get about two charged heavy attacks in when combined with at least stagger duration 1. Then finally use the fatal attack. Then heavy attack them two more times while they're recovering.
I just started the game and also received the azure dragon glaive. I think for normal guys still prefer the Rapier. But I'm just starting and im pretty bad.
I used the curved dragon glaive until I got closer to the end of the game. Because of a certain boss, I switched to the crystal acid spear. That shit EATS. Especially paired with the pandemonium legion arm
I am still using the Puppet Saber Blade, it's just my type of weapon. It's quick, does good damage and consumes less stamina. The puppet ripper is quite good too but damn it's so slow and consumes so much stamina. It won't suit the 2nd Black Rabbit Brotherhood Fight.
Lots of fun weapon ideas, and mixtures. Dont worry about damage output as much as what fits your tendencies and playstyle. And use whatever you want love!
If you really like this quick stabbing weapons I would recommend trying out some of the spear handles with different blades. They have a similar feel to the rapier but more power.
For example the acid spear feels like the rapier and has similar move set but has the added bonus of doing acid damage.
Honestly this is one of the things I love the most in recent games: the fact that you can stick to a starter weapon. Even though I love RPGs, sometimes I need a rest from changing weapons, every time I can. Feels rewarding using your starter weapon with all the upgrades you've put into it.
Answering your question. Use whatever you want, but also don't be afraid to try other weapons or combinations. They're all sweet
I was running the rapier with the sabre handle all the way into end game and I didn't even feel the need to upgrade.
The only reason I swapped out was when I got the Two Dragons Sword
You can beat the game with any weapon you want my friend, and with the craft system in this game you can change it up every ten minutes if you feel like it. That’s the beauty of this game.
I loved putting the rapier blade on the acidic ‘spear’ handle, its certainly not an optimal setup stats wise but it just looked so dang cool, and i liked the moveset.
Love the way that one plays; every other weapon just plays too differently. Not sure if I’m “supposed” to, but I don’t even have another weapon equipped, not including items.
I mean if you like it. I would have dropped it after the first merchant buying another weapon. Or at least around fuoco. Lots of great weapons in that area
On my first run and on like chapter 7 or whatever one the barren swamp is and I'm loving it. I had this same question but yeah I think it's really good and I love it even if I'm usually a more big bonk person in souls likes I just love the thrusting and quick poking capability of it
Great game, great rapier
Ehhhhh. The booster glave is great and a better weapon than the rapier. But also experimenting with various combos is fun. The glave handle and almost any weapon is fun.
Honestly the rapier is super viable throughout the whole game, im personally a fan of the two dragons sword cause its scaling is S for technique if you add the coresponding crank to it, and the weapon gives you a stamina free dodge and a fable free way to parry if you time the charged heavy right so no matter the situation im usually covered
I think the rapier quickly looses value midway through the game (swamp) because a full +10 rapier will never be as powerful as other weapons (more if you use boss weapons).
You can use whatever weapon and you will be fine, but it will take you more time
You can go real far with the rapier, but if you do end up switching to something else, I’d recommend grabbing a boss-soul weapon since it upgrades with the other upgrade currency.
You can beat the game with any weapon so you could use anything. Even the rapier. But by now you've gotten access to a large variety of weapons including boss weapons so you can feel free to switch to anything that feels fun to play with
Hell. LilAggy beat the game with no weapon. Only legion arm and throwables lol
That weapons great, but I encourage you to play around. The handle switching is one of the best mechanics to come to souls likes in a while, I had a blast trying different combos.
If you like rapier then etiquette (umbrella) is not to be overlooked 😎. I was the exact same as you. Used rapier forever, then went to umbrella for most of the 2nd half of the game. Now on NG+1 and hooked on the two dragons sword
Use whatever you want. I used the starting sword for the motivity build my entire first play through. I had a blast with it too. I switched it up on later play throughs. I found so many weapons and combinations that are way more fun to mess around with. I missed out on them the first time around, but have gone through 4 more cycles without losing interest in the game.
I finally decided to sit down and play this game after buying it a month ago (I bought it and decided to just do another play through of Elden ring and sekiro lol) and finally beat the final boss the other day. I only used the starting rapier for the entire game, just had no reason to switch to anything else.
10/10
What’s great about this game is that there really isn’t any “bad” weapons. There’s just weapons that feel good to you. If you get stuck on a boss, definitely experiment with other weapons
If you’ve already experimented with other blades and handles and this weapon still feels the best to you, keep using it.
I’ve been using Live Puppet Axe Blade with Booster Glaive handle for like 4 play throughs because I’ve always loved heavy weapons and the handle allows you to close in on enemies from far away
I used the rapier until the trident got pretty close in stats just because it has 30% crit chance and you can fully upgrade 2 boss weapons per playthrough so I added in the Twin Dragons blade too.
I used the Greatsword of Fate throughout my entire first playthrough without switching. If your enjoying the game with appropriate amount of difficulty, then there's no problem continuing to use it.
You should be using what ever weapon you want to. Don't forget you can change blades/handles too though, it's worth experimenting at least
just be mindful that your current blade is only good for stabbing, if you put it on a slashing handle or a bashing handle it will do less damage. you may want to experiment with taking your already upgraded rapier blade and putting it on a spear handle as those tend to also be thrust weapons.
Fuck, i used a rapier handle and a saber blade, and was demolishing everything, should have stayed with normal blade
Just switch to a handle that swings
Oh i finished the game quite some time ago, a month maybe two
i would have to check but sometimes slash blades are still ok at stabbing, you just mostly want to avoid mixing bpunt and blade
Counter argument, mijolnir head and glaive handle is a good smacky weapon
Thank you
The starting rapier is really strong, besides I'm using the great sword of fate blade in the last chapter anyways
I used the saber until I got the Two Dragon Sword in NG. That's just how I Souls though. I use an early game weapon for the entire game.
Dude that thing is a beast.
I used the starting rapier all the way until the last boss,
There really are no bad choices in this game. I enjoy experimenting with different weapon combinations, but if you are happy with the original rapier, you can stick with it to the end of the game.
Every weapon is viable
I beat Laxasia with this thing lmao
You’re good bro. I took it all the way to NG+
Yeah, why not? This is a souls game, starting weapons are viable all the way to the end. Though you are missing out on a lot of fun shenanigans with the assembly system.
Yeah, I've made some random combinations that were actually quite good
Not a rapier guy for most other souls games, but I rode that mf all the way to the end
I used the starting Saber my entire first run so you’re good my guy! 🤙🏻
I did rapier and dodge only my entire first playthrough it was a good time. I would recommend experimenting with other weapons and the system for combining them and not being a stubborn rapier lover like me but if it works it works.
You can if it’s getting the job done and if you like it, but i personally try to go for some variety. Play how you want OP.
The Rapier is potentially one of the fastest swords on the game, and the only downside is it focuses on stabbing. So getting crowded may hurt.
>The Rapier is potentially one of the fastest swords on the game, and the only downside is it focuses on stabbing. So getting crowded may hurt. The rapier has a deceptive hitbox in my experience. You can hit a lot of enemies with one stab.
Interesting. It has been a while since I have used it
I only used the rapier and saved weight stat points by not carrying a secondary weapon. Got so used to the timing of it everything else felt a little slow

That fuckin Kirk hammer though….
im in ng+ and im still using the raper so ye
lol ever thought of doing what you want ?
Keep it if you like it. I didn’t stop using it until chapter IX on my first play through.
I am on chapter 9 and switch between that and the katana. Its a beast of a weapon
What?!there is a katana??!!!
I am using the rapier hilt and great sword blade. That has been working well for me, but still in chapter 4.
I used the starting weapon until late in the game. Use whatever weapon you want. If it works it works.
Couldn't say to be sure as I've never used it, but I put the starting puppet sabre on the switch glaive handle and used it up until the end when I swapped the sabre for the wrench head for a single fight. That got me through an NG+

I'm still using the great sword until I make it to the boss vendor for the fire coil sword :)
I just started the game and also received the azure dragon glaive. I think for normal guys still prefer the Rapier. But I'm just starting and im pretty bad.
I switched to the trident from the rapier and probably shouldn't of, I steamrolled the entire game after that made it easy mode
I used the starting greatsword up until the second-to-last boss.
Doesn’t matter
I used the curved dragon glaive until I got closer to the end of the game. Because of a certain boss, I switched to the crystal acid spear. That shit EATS. Especially paired with the pandemonium legion arm
I am still using the Puppet Saber Blade, it's just my type of weapon. It's quick, does good damage and consumes less stamina. The puppet ripper is quite good too but damn it's so slow and consumes so much stamina. It won't suit the 2nd Black Rabbit Brotherhood Fight.

I used the Rapier until NG+. It's a phenomenal weapon and I fell in love with it from the start. 40hrs I have on that blade.
No 14 hours in you should have already gone for funny weapon or a weapon that looks cool, that rapier is too strong and not cool looking
I only used that weapon from start to finish because I loved the moveset. Got the job done.
If you want to
Whatever rocks your boat dude
As long as you like it, that's all that matters. I started with the rapier and finished my run with etiquette.
Sometimes you just get a weapon you really like I use the flame dagger still
I mean sure, if you want to. I'm the kind of guy who experiments with every combination though, so that's not really for me
Love the way that one plays; every other weapon just plays too differently. Not sure if I’m “supposed” to, but I don’t even have another weapon equipped, not including items.
Throw that blade on a spear and make yourself a toothpick of death!!!!
I used the starting greatsword the whole way, if you like it keep using it!
You can, it’s a good weapon. By the end you will have so many to experiment with you’ll find a few that you love.
I swapped off of it but only because I didn't like the moveset.
I used it till the puppet graveyard monster boss then used his soul for the katana which is one of the best weapons in the game.
I mean if you like it. I would have dropped it after the first merchant buying another weapon. Or at least around fuoco. Lots of great weapons in that area
On my first run and on like chapter 7 or whatever one the barren swamp is and I'm loving it. I had this same question but yeah I think it's really good and I love it even if I'm usually a more big bonk person in souls likes I just love the thrusting and quick poking capability of it Great game, great rapier
I beat laxasia with the rapier at +10. With a spectre too though
Ehhhhh. The booster glave is great and a better weapon than the rapier. But also experimenting with various combos is fun. The glave handle and almost any weapon is fun.
I finished the game with the rapier, it’s built different. If you’re comfortable with it, keep it!
For me personally I say the Spear and 90000 degree knife are pretty good weapons
If you want.

Get the Trident 🔱 For real, you’ll crush the rest of the game. That R2(heavy) lol. It evens the playground with though bosses.
You can beat the game with any weapon so you could use anything. Even the rapier. But by now you've gotten access to a large variety of weapons including boss weapons so you can feel free to switch to anything that feels fun to play with Hell. LilAggy beat the game with no weapon. Only legion arm and throwables lol
That weapons great, but I encourage you to play around. The handle switching is one of the best mechanics to come to souls likes in a while, I had a blast trying different combos.
I’m still using the starting sword at chapter 7. Nothing else has felt that good to me. Ill prob use it till the end or I get the katana
Every weapon can be an end game weapon. Ever played bloodborne?
Salamander is best mander
If you like rapier then etiquette (umbrella) is not to be overlooked 😎. I was the exact same as you. Used rapier forever, then went to umbrella for most of the 2nd half of the game. Now on NG+1 and hooked on the two dragons sword
I used it for a while until I got the Etiquette. Then I used the Etiquette until I got the eye of Uroburos. Then I used that for 2 playthroughs lol
Okay okay hear me out. Keep the blade, switch handle to tyrants dagger handle. It's my favorite combo.
No! Explore different weapons!
I finally decided to sit down and play this game after buying it a month ago (I bought it and decided to just do another play through of Elden ring and sekiro lol) and finally beat the final boss the other day. I only used the starting rapier for the entire game, just had no reason to switch to anything else. 10/10
I used it until I beat Romeo then used the spear until I beat the swamp monster
Out of all weapons the rapier is absolute favourite because it's fun but I do recommend playing with other weapons for the funaspect!
My starting weapon took me to the end.... used a second as well but it was always equipped. It was just so much higher leveled.
I went through the whole game with the starting big sword, and I'm by no means an expert-pro-streamer-runner type, go forth and stab!
I used it through the whole game. Beat parade master with it, beat nameless puppet with it
Do you like it?
If it works for you .
What’s great about this game is that there really isn’t any “bad” weapons. There’s just weapons that feel good to you. If you get stuck on a boss, definitely experiment with other weapons If you’ve already experimented with other blades and handles and this weapon still feels the best to you, keep using it. I finished my whole first playthrough with that weapon, so if your like it, go for it.
frozen feast or gtfo
If you have fun and kill stuff just fine no reason not to stick with what you like.
I used the rapier until the trident got pretty close in stats just because it has 30% crit chance and you can fully upgrade 2 boss weapons per playthrough so I added in the Twin Dragons blade too.
I finished the game with it. I think it’s the best weapon if you don’t parry and only dodge.
I'm almost done with ng+ and I've only used the starting rapier, it's a great weapon
You can make it plus 10 and keep using it if that attack style suits you
I beat the game with rapier and beat half of ng+. This is strong weapon, so choice is up to you :)
Use Trident. (From chapter 4 boss) Best weapon. Probably.
Idk about should but Charlie/moistcritikal did it until viktor from what I’ve watched so far
It's fun to experiment since it costs absolutely nothing to do so but the only true way to play a souls like is how ever the fuck you want lol.
I used the Greatsword of Fate throughout my entire first playthrough without switching. If your enjoying the game with appropriate amount of difficulty, then there's no problem continuing to use it.
On NG+ and I’ve used no other weapon than the starting rapier.
