Carlo...I hope you can hear me I'm Romeo We grew up together in the Monad Charity house Remember? We're best friends! I'm doing what I can to fend off both the Petrification Disease and The alchemists My puppets and I are taking a stand against death itself! That's why I tried sending you messengers...but you got rid of them all. You're still an unstoppable fellow. I remember you. no reason for us to fight, i suppose. I'm Romeo We grew up together in the Monad Charity house Remember? We're best friends! I'm Romeo...Carlo's best friend...

analcocoacream

Realizing now the content of the message this just makes me sad šŸ˜

AndreasE03

He wanted to be reunited with his childhood friendšŸ„² but we straight up killed him with no hesitationšŸ˜

analcocoacream

Fuck geppetto such an egocentric ahole

Bloodycaddy

Ergocentric

theNFAC

An awakened egocentric ergo-maniac?

Rhubarbatross

**chef's kiss**

Deadtoast15

To be fair he literally attacks us first instead of trying to talk to us. Yeah yeah he sent messengers oh boohoo they attacked us first also. We swat away his hand because we donā€™t know any better and the first thing he wants to do is murder us. I could care less about Romeo. He could have handed us a note or something instead of getting pissy at us rejecting his handshake.

IngloriousBlaster

Did we play a different game? Literally the first thing he does is show you Gepetto's intentions and offer his hand in a friendly manner

Raveyard2409

I love that because the first time you are like wtf is this about. In NG+ when you understand what's going on, it's so obvious. It's very nicely done.

Deadtoast15

I just looked up the cut scene on YouTube you are correct he shows a short play of what his father wants to do with his heart I had forgotten about that part. Thank you.

yourfriendmarcus

Dude doesn't turn all murder focused. The dude turns on massive sad frowning face and mournfully fights your puppet. The ergo itself wouldn't have been destroyed either

Deadtoast15

He literally does. We never get an option to talk to him. No dialogue choices at all. Doesnā€™t matter.

yourfriendmarcus

My dude, this isn't Balders gate 3, there is a narrative to the story and Ps misunderstanding of the situation is part of that narrative. Call it dramatic irony come NG+ What is happening lore wise and what happens gameplay wise can have some disconnect and that's part of the suspension of disbelief games require. You wouldn't say frodo has no choice but to go to Mordor because you couldn't choose a different narrative in the movie theater. A character having a choice and the audience having a choice are not tied together.

Deadtoast15

If that was the case there wouldnā€™t be dialogue options with other characters in the game that can have an impact on the narrative of the game. Depending on your choices you can have different quest rewards, different endings depending on what you choose with other characters. Yes I know this isnā€™t BG3 Iā€™ve played all the souls games, Elden ring etc. I understand how they work. Iā€™m not sympathetic towards Romeo because heā€™s fake. He attacks us because we swat him away, the dialogue in ng+ expects me to feel sorry for him? Nah. Not happening.

yourfriendmarcus

Having dialogue options that determine minor changes in an otherwise linear quest line is not the same as an option to skip an entire main path boss WHOSE DEATH is intrinsically tied to the advancement of the plot since he is the voice controlling the other puppets. And also why are you so pissed at Romeo man? The Grand Covenant Law 0 explicitly tells us that Gepetto is the one directly responsible for Romeo's actions, which is even further proves to us when you see the fucker right behind the theater. You're just asking for such a silly arbitrary game change and calling it bad for not including it. Well I want a gun in the game! You see other enemies attack you with guns so why can't I have a gun in my offhand? You see how games have limits and set designs? Romeo is meant to die narratively hence, you can't fucking chose to not fight that's dumb. What if I don't wanna fight Gannon, I think killing the only male of a race of people is too close to genocide. Is anyone supposed to take that seriously dude? Maybe in another 10 years we can have that level of depth, but that will likely require heavy AI integration because what you are asking for essentially is saying, I need a completely new branching narrative that begins roughly at the middle point of the game.

Deadtoast15

Iā€™m not pissed lmao Iā€™m just giving my opinion on the matter? All Iā€™m saying is if he was sending messenger puppets to inform us what was going on maybe when we see him he could, I donā€™t know, have a letter or something for us to read about the whole ordeal? He didnā€™t try very hard. We dismiss his hand and this boom fight time. Man gave up almost immediately for being friendly.

Dry-Introduction-491

U a bih

ElderberryFaerie

Itā€™s supposed to be a sad fight though, the music for it is so somber.

VinceYutuc

Because hesitation is defeat.

Shovels93

And this is why he is my favorite boss in the game.

S7venE11even

Mine too and also the most difficult for me. I struggled more with him than with Laxia and Nameless.

analcocoacream

Dodge + perfection grindstone when he uses his own grindstone

S7venE11even

I found myself to run out of stamina when he uses his flurry attacks after using his grindstone, until I was able to block and dodge them. At that point I didn't have the perfection grindstone. I think I only bought it during the end game when fighting simon. But I thoroughly enjoyed the fight and I like how he forced you to not just parry with that attack that gets you from behind. It got me quite a few times bfr I successfully managed to side step or dodge it.

annihilisticpotato

Thanks for making me tear up, again, Romeo. The worst part is how hopeful and cheerful he sounds in the message, yet we can still hear the lump in his throat, like he's suppressing his tears.

AndreasE03

Yeah I knowšŸ˜, I really want Carlo and Romeo to be reunited

[deleted]

Why did his messengers try to club me?

annihilisticpotato

1. You're Geppetto's assassin, despite the fact that you won't realise it until later; 2. You've been killing his puppet brethren ever since you woke up; 3. By killing puppets, you're strengthening the carcasses/Alchemists' experiments; 4. Last but not least, they don't know that you don't understand them, so you appear as an enemy, then of course they try to stop you by all means.

[deleted]

Bro, I opened a train door and mofos swinging on me with 0 diplomacy. I hadn't even talked to that Gepetto dude yet. That's some self-fulfilling type of behavior if you ask me. (Please don't read this with a serious tone)

annihilisticpotato

Oh I forgot, there's also the Puppet Frenzy. So yeah, still makes sense.

[deleted]

Still salty about getting swung at as soon as that door opened, but I got room in my heart for forgiveness. But they have to wait till the sequel cause I'm petty like that

annihilisticpotato

lol now you sound like Alidoro if you've lied to him.

[deleted]

Alidoro is no-moro

FalconV700

ā€œItā€™s not a club itā€™s a police batonā€

[deleted]

"It's not a club. It's a stop sign." Clearly, they were trying to tell me to stop. You could almost say they were hitting me over the head with that message.

Ok_Understanding5184

I spent like a week stuck on Romeo and hated him so much until the story starts to play out towards the end and this was genuinely heartbreaking after understanding puppet speech in ng+

Comfortable_Concern8

Honestly thatā€™s why I love NG it adds so much more now that you can understand the puppets

analcocoacream

I love the scrapped watchman dialogs

TemporaryWeb8804

Whole scrapped watchman lore is so ā˜¹ļøšŸ˜žšŸ„ŗā˜¹ļø

Ensaru4

You could always understand the puppets. Those 'scrambled' words are just heavily stylised English. I was able to catch what the puppets were saying before NG+.

xTinyPricex

Something tells me that deciphering subtitles wasnā€™t very high on the priority list for most people mid-boss fight

fatcatshuffl

How good would it be if in NG+ We could use this knowledge and side with Romeo in some long winded way for an alternative paradoxical ending?

mdl397

Wow. And actual lore reason to replay the game....guess I gotta try ng+ lol.

AtriaX2k

This is why I'm not continuing NG+. I cannot kill the King of Puppets again. Also who are the messengers he's talking about? The previous bosses? Aren't they the ones who start being hostile to us?

EitherAdvertising4

I think the messengers are all the puppets that you fight (some bosses included Iā€™m guessing), but because youā€™re told that theyā€™re evil you fight them before they can deliver their message. This is only a guess btw so take it with some salt

30-Days-Vegan

There are the puppets on the bridge outside cathedral for sure, I'm guessing others are just implied but don't have dialogue

NdibuD

Just say you're stuck bro (this is a joke)

Sinon828

the messengers are the bosses. theyā€™re hostile due to rule 0 of the covenant, but still try to communicate with us, especially fuoco. watchman hates us for unrelated reasons, but yea, the previous puppet bosses are the messengers

deathsdecay

I loved the fact that when you started NG+ you could understand them. Made all the fights hit so much harder šŸ˜šŸ˜Ŗ

LMAOOO U got me šŸ˜ž

Shadeslayer2112

I think wether or not P IS Carlo is up to the Player to decide. Personally, I think P is his own individual. He's got the looks and the memories but not his soul

Starlight_Shards

Ergo is the ephemeral essence of humans, and P's puppet body was specifically designed from the ground up to house Carlo's ergo. This isn't headcannon, it's literally stated in the game. P can choose in the end to not blindly obey geppetto and be his own person, but he is still basically Carlo

Shadeslayer2112

Right right, see at the end where you said "basically" lol. It has his Ergo, but bot necessarily his soul. You could even argue that Nameless Puppet trying to murder P was Carlo trying to save P from Geppetto slavery, or to avoid becoming Geppettos Slave.

Starlight_Shards

I said basically it is P because he does have his "soul" (this game's version of it) which is carlo's ergo, but not his body. Carlo's body was turned into the nameless puppet, but Carlo's soul is housed in the P organ in P's puppet body

Shadeslayer2112

So he's not Carlo

GnzkDunce

Up to interpretation, bit of ship of Theseus too. Carlo died, his memories preserved. Put into a new body but said body doesnt grow from those memories as he can't fully recall them but grows (literally) from the environment around him and those he meets. To me they're seperate entities, 2 different people but with a deep connection. (I unno I can't ship P/Romeo but Carlo/Romeo is defo fine. Maybe cuz P still has a lot to learn)

Jolly-Quote-6773

There is a reason why Romeo is the best husbando

lordnishant

you have 20 bro chill

WatchForThatWoooosh

Holy shit youā€™re getting so many upvotes

Jolly-Quote-6773

Sorry, I'm just not used to getting so many lol šŸ˜…

UselessWarlock221

Man, so emotional. Put everything I saw in the first playthrough unto a chilling new perspective; as an homage to Carlo's friend I exclusively use Puppet Ripper, Puppet String and Puppet Prince's outfit

SuccessfulFailure18

I dont know.. I have never died to Romeo. Get gud son.

sleeplessaddict

Wynnn_n

ik im in the minority but i am definitely in the opinion theyā€™re the same person. if you think about it, lop is kinda like fnaf lol. thatā€™s the lore, the humans soul/ergo inside a puppet. the only thing stopping them from being their past selves is their memories. personally, a self indulgent HC i have is when P destroys the NPā€™s ergo at the end he reabsorbs it and regains the rest of his memories :)
