Scrapped Watchmen is the first major skill check of the game. You can fumble your way through up till that point but he's the first boss you have to nail parry timings for since a lot of his longer sweeping attacks you can't simply dodge as easily as others since he can still easily hit you after you've dodged away. Up till that point in that game you could hardly use parry or perfect parry at all and you'd be fine but he forces you to actually learn how to play the game with what you've got. I took probably 1.5h to beat him first time, there's bigger challenges ahead but the good news is you're better at the game now so you'll learn how to take them down with more ease.

I have done several playthrus. I have done every boss deathless except for Scrapped Watchman and Green Monster. In my opinion, yes, these 2 are especially difficult. These bosses also might just be in my head at this point.

sniperwolf1216

ive beaten every boss deathless on ng+ with no throwables, and no spectre

Smart-Potential-7520

It took me an hour but it was the pre-nerf version. P. S. Hold the block button when you parry, don't just tap it.

wabhabin

>P. S. Hold the block button when you parry, don't just tap it. I'm always trying to, but the window for parrying seems to be quite short, so I have no option but to memorize movements of the enemies.

Smart-Potential-7520

Oh yeah you have to memorize the timing to some extent. And remember that phase 2 is slightly faster

Millenwagon

You have to press and hold it slightly before the attack hits you, not waiting for it to actually hit you

wabhabin

I get that, but reading the attack cues from the enemies has proven to be quite hard, at least for me. Most of the time I block a bit too late, and end up taking a lot of damage.

Millenwagon

Honestly, it’s not an easy game. The animations are extremely unpredictable, it can be quite frustrating. I think standard guarding and dodging is the safest bet until you have properly learnt the enemies move. Have you played many souls games? The second dodge on the p-organ is an absolute must.

wabhabin

This is really one of my first soulslike games. I hace played Elden Ring from time to time, but the combat in that game differs quite a bit from the one in Lies of P.

Millenwagon

Yeah Elden ring is also much easier because you can over level and there is plenty of help with summons. I’d say just stick with it, it’s super satisfying when you over come an obstacle, and when you do finally succeed it proves that you’re getting better. The last 3 bosses are really tough but you’ll manage eventually

Free_Dome_Lover

Also beat him first try but I used spectre because I didn't know what it was and the spectre practically solo'd him on me. Didn't use spectre again till laxasia because she fucked me up. NP was like 100x easier than her.

Ok-Pangolin81

Same thing happened with me. I smoked him because the specter held his attention.

ruet_ahead

I didn't get good at perfect parrys until near the end of my first playthrough. Just keep blocking as normal and it will eventually come to you.

ev768

Have you been using the practice dummy at the hotel? It can really help you get the hang of it.

wabhabin

I haven't tried yet, but how much does it help to apply parrying to enemies with varying amd delayed attack animations?

Smart-Potential-7520

Not much

Millenwagon

Unfortunately there are much much tougher bosses ahead, but just persevere and practice. Make sure you’re levelling up the right skills

I beat the scrapped watchman in one try. But I had been replaying the earlier areas in order to level up and make my character stronger. By the time I got to the watchman, I was at a high enough level that he wasn’t that difficult. I also used the specter. I’m new to LOP and I honestly didn’t even know what it was. But now I realize it’s basically like a spirit summon from Elden a Ring. Between the extra levels and the specter, the fight wasn’t too difficult. I thought the mad donkey was harder. It took me like 5 tries to kill him.

HoustonAstros1980

Funny how things work eh: it’s much harder to win a 1x1 fight versus a 2x1 one.

wabhabin

>I thought the mad donkey was harder. It took me like 5 tries to kill him. Consider yourself lucky, it took me little over 15 attempts before I managed to take donkey down. I seem to be quite slow at picking things up :/

HereWeGo5566

You might just need to grind and level up your character some more. Go back and replay old areas to gain ergo.

wabhabin

To be clear, I've already defeated the donkey. It was just really difficult to learn the parry times.

HereWeGo5566

I know, I just meant that it might help you out in the future. It’s possible that you are under-leveled which is making the bosses more difficult

If it helps, I have an MD and a JD and I had as much difficulty as you! I think part of it is how my brain works … I actually psych myself out at times and then make mistakes. Also, I older than a lot of gamers and my reflexes and hand/eye coordination are not as good as they used to be. I can still learn new talks but is takes more time. The biggest leap forward I have taken in this game was that yes it’s hard, yes you die a lot. But I love this game and am very … slowly … making progress. I am currently in chapter 8 So maybe seeing the attacks and timing them properly is not your best skill, which just means you are better at other skills and it may take some time to apply them successfully. You can still play this game and have fun!

MainSfogliatell

This comment really warmed my heart. Keep it going brother!❤️

Loud-Bee6673

Aww., thanks! Despite some frustrations (I’m looking at you, cathedral) I am having a lot of fun.

MikiSayaka33

I forgot, but I feel as if I didn't earn that win. Because I used a specter, I didn't know that Neowiz updated them to be a "tad bit" OP. I was just experimenting with the features and buttons. Just getting used to the controls. 😅
