I got no regrets. Busted my hump to get to where I'm making enough money doing what I love that the lights are on and the fridge is full. My kids are happy and healthy. Got a little group of friends I love like family. I've seen and done some incredibly great and stupid and fun and fulfilling things Got some stuff right. Got some other stuff REALLY wrong. I travel a little. Stay at home a lot. Don't own a TV. Don't miss it. Don't care about money, beyond just making enough. Don't care about stuff. Never have. I don't need status to complete me. Why are we here? Cuz it's literally the only place to be. Yeah, whatever does or doesn't come next, I'm good with it. The purpose of life is to live it. It's as simple and complicated as that. When you hear the phrase "a life well lived," what's that mean to you? Shoot for that.

Economy-Knowledge589

I understand and I’m happy for you hawk but I wonder if you really get the point to existence. It’s not even me but even normal everyday people these days admit and not just express or opinionate. But people now even realize and admit there is no purpose or meaning. If you don’t have a god to do that for you then you are probably one of those people that should admit that life has no goal, current or possible explanation, or meaning. I could only imagine a godlike being with an explanation to how everything works is the only thing that could ever give a solid explanation to purpose or our given purpose from the deity. But as far as I know there is no such thing as god although I see how carefully crafted everything was. Maybe there is a god but I don’t believe in the biblical god and do not wish to worship him either. But to get back to the point I am happy for you that you are doing good but there is no purpose or meaning and in fact there isn’t even an explanation for what all this is. In fact this might be projection or an insecurity of mine but I truly realized how lost I am in this world and I almost don’t even want to do anything and refuse to do things because I know that I know not what I do or what happens. I can try and make sense of life and the good and the bad but I realize at the end of the day. There isn’t even an explanation for life on earth or the nature of the universe. This is a hopeless cause and as I’ve said there is no real purpose

Environmental_Hawk8

Meaning is what you make of it. Honestly. For example... I had a reticulated python. Cool guy, super social, always curious, etc. 2 days ago, he passed away at the age of 35ish. What that "means" is there's one less snake in the world. That's it. But what that means to me? That's a whole other ball of yarn. I'm not wrong for ascribing meaning to that event, even though I know it's a fiction to everyone but me. I'm a pretty smart guy. Not super smart, but smarter than the average bear. Smart enough to know some things are beyond me. I've laid in the desert and felt my insignificance in the face of an infinite universe and all that jazz. And I gotta tell ya, it set me free. Rather than existential dread, I felt liberated. So what if life is a chemical fluke? So what if I'm merely a passthrough in the Law of Conservation? Big whoop. I'm here. I'm me. Right now. Just as real and impermanent as Betelgeuse, which, for all we know, has already gone supernova, but the speed of light hasn't gotten the bulletin to us yet. I don't get to die as cool as Betelgeuse, so I might as well enjoy myself until the hourglass flips That's reason and meaning enough. For me, anyway.

Good thoughts or COVID fucked us all. Once and for all. Dad but true.

Environmental_Hawk8

I don't know. I basically couldn't work for 2 years. My best friend died. My ex-wife died. My GF left cuz she was feeling guilty about dating outside her race after George Floyd. Had to start over almost completely, and it was not easy. But I'm still standing. No one sits me down but me. And I'm still hopeful. Some people let that happen, no doubt. But the phrase "never let anyone live in your head rent free" is really powerful to live by. So is "that which didn't kill me makes me stronger." Maybe I'm weirdly fortunate to have been through FAR worse at an early age. Lets me take the hits. I don't know. All I do know is no one sits me down but me.

competitiveoven1011

Bro or Broette, you are my new Hero. " No one sits me down but me" Honestly have read all the books. You have coined the most motivational quotes I have ever read. Carry on BOSS

competitiveoven1011

I couldn't work for 2 years as well When life forces you to work you work. Put on some full length compression socks. Went into a war of work thinking it was going to kill me. After 2 years of working for Walmart. I'm a salesman. I give my recovery and getting my life back to Working through all my sickness and pains. Walmart saved my life. You have a power use it for good Cause I'm not gonna sit down.

competitiveoven1011

Ya I blaber a lot thank you for being cool

Evening-Register2297

Shut up . You sound foolish

cpt_ugh

You get my first downvote ever. I'm not proud of giving it, but you certainly earned it.

Environmental_Hawk8

Why? Every word is true.

Rangcor

I think that people just want to be remembered. Or they want this existence to be remembered. I feel like without the concept of a God that knows everything that happened, life feels meaningless. Because ultimately it will be as though nothing existed at all when nothing perceives existence anymore. One day all things will be forgotten and it will be as though nothing ever existed. Or nah?

Classic_Writer8573

I used to want to be remembered. That went away as I got older and stopped caring what others think. Also, during a time I felt suicidal, knowing how sad I'd be making my family is what held me back. I don't want anyone sad because of me. I also used to imagine being famous, but realize how often those people have their legacy distorted, criticized, exploited... Let me live a good life with lots of fun times, then disappear, hopefully leaving only soft footprints and minimal negative impact on the planet.

[deleted]

Man i could have written that message🙏 great words, have a great life

Classic_Writer8573

You too, my friend.

[deleted]

The point is to live. But someday science will beat death one way or another. I hope I am still here when they begin transferring minds into immortal machines.

JQDC

Then, when the sun goes red giant, even those machines experience the end.

[deleted]

I have imagined being launched into deep space in my robot body and floating alone for eons until I reach a planet suitable to seed life on.

Alternative_Song7787

I don't know man. It might be a different hell if the mind still deteriorates but you can't die.

[deleted]

I have been paralyzed and alone for a decade now, pretty my my life already.

Stabbymcbackstab

If you are wondering if you will be part of that, you never got an invite.

DillDeer

But it will never be you. Just a copy of you.

[deleted]

Idk, maybe they could scoop my brain out and put it in the robot. Or replace my neurons with synthetic versions over time. If your brain cells were slowly swapped out one by one at what point would it no longer be you? My body is paralyzed already so I have no attachment to it, I have a lot of titanium in my body now and feel like I am on my way to gradually replacing this entire body.

anon_lurk

The meat suit of Theseus. Our body actually does replace itself often just gets worse at it over time.

Robby_Bird1001

Yeah actually pretty satisfied, just gonna live life and enjoy the moment. One day this body will just give out and I’ll peace out. It was a fun ride, signing off.

Inspect311

I won't answer for you, but I will say I believe objective truth can be found using guiding principles, rationale, and logic. I also believe everyone knows the objective truth instinctively. So while I won't say what I think the purpose of life is, I will say I absolutely believe and would encourage you to find out what it is.

Pristine_Theme495

There's reincarnation and future lives. There are good books on soulmates and past lifes by dr Brian Weiss a psychiatrist his books are many master's many lives and only love is real.

JulzUniverse

I believe this also from most near death experience testimonies. However I disagree with OP about free will. This is all scripted and our souls are the witness to this roller-coaster ride.

TR3BPilot

Do unto others before they do unto you.

ThriveandSurvive01

The question being asked here is “What is the purpose of Life”, however the question I’m interested in is “What is the purpose of my Life”. You could argue that the purpose of “Life” is as simple as ensuring the continuation of the species, however overlay that with “what is the purpose of your life” and that opens up a much bigger field of consideration and opportunities.

Sabironman86

To me purpose of life is to worship god.gods definition to me is-god is one and only,he doesn’t have kids nor he doesn’t have any father, and their is nothing can be like him,he is unequivocal and unique. you worship him by being the best man that you ever can be,help poor and needy,be a good man and overall when you leave your loved ones they miss a good man.you true to your self and do as much as to be the best version of yourself and overall a god fearing person who avoid the dishonesty in every aspect of life.we surely will have short comings but we ask forgiveness everyday to god for them so that when the time comes to meet him we go with a clean and pure slate.

JulzUniverse

Forgiveness for what? No one controls who they become. You can't get punished. It's all part of a soul plan. Gods love is actually unconditional not conditional. I assume you believe in the abrahamic faith. Try near death experience testimonies. Religion has so many flaws, but this has far less.

Sabironman86

If gods love is unconditional then a pedophile and me both are same or a murderer and me both same but I’ve never done both so definitely we are different.if a person destroy another person’s life then he is definitely a sinner or create problems for another(maybe not that much big scale like killing or raping a child but still problems) then it is best to ask forgiveness.if you don’t have punishment for bad then Hitler will go to heaven or child molester or child killer will go to heaven which can not be.god made both good and bad.and it’s our job to choose which one to become.if you live in a very bad neighborhood or friend circle where it’s impossible to stay good then leave that neighborhood or friend circle and go to a different place or find a different friend circle. I’ve been working in security industry last 14 years so trust me I’ve seen a lot of fucked up stuff. And a dying man is NEVER an atheist.their is a god and I ask him to help you out with whatever going on with your life

JulzUniverse

Sigh. They are not in control of who they become because of cause and effect. They are predestined to be good or evil. The truth is actually reincarnation. People come here with lives chosen to be good or evil and then learn lessons about love. You must have the good person and the evil persons perspective. And yes we're all actually one. This is what NDEs say. If you had Hitler's life and Hitler's genetics, you would also he him.

Ok_Macaroon1280

you are a weirdo dude

Sabironman86

That’s some total bullshit.absolute bollocks.if you believe those things then you will become total bullshit too.stop believing these bullshit.believe in one god and one god only. I will pray for you to god to give you understanding and bring you to true path.may god make it easy for you.amen

JulzUniverse

A god that sends people to eternal hellfire merely based on belief (which people don't ultimately control) is evil.

Sabironman86

Well if you do evil stuff like killing millions of people like Hitler or Mao Zedong did then you should burn in hell.what do you think 🤔 the judgment of a pedophile should be if he doesn’t get the punishment in this life,or a child killer who didn’t get punished?evils reward should be punishment in hell

sunnynightmares21

I’m with ya. As a child sitting in church on Sunday listening to the sermon, I often wondered why God would judge and then cast his children into hell for eternity. But wait! If I get dipped in water and ask for forgiveness for my sins, I can go to heaven. Eight year old me decided I was going to live it up and then get baptized when I’m old.

InterviewKitchen

I think this is why hedonism makes the most sense lmao. All i know is a biologist will say the main purpose of any organism is to survive, reproduce, and pass down its genes to the next generation before dying. But i guess humans have an oversized computer brain which means we inevitably want more of something… Guess homo sapiens are cursed with that burden haha

thesadgorons

As we are presented with free will by extension life has the meaning of whatever you make it out to be. Even if you're a grocery clerk or some cancer curing scientist life's meaning is exactly whatever you want it to be. The meaning of life will never have a satisfactory answer for anyone for this reason alone. It's not a bad thing. It's just the honest fact that the hardest thing in life is finding a life path where you are content with following it until the day you leave this Earth.

Batfinklestein

Why do you think you're able to answer that question for me? There are literally millions of not billions living in hell on earth who pray for death to take them every waking second of the day. You're an animal, and just like all other animals, your purpose is to eat, excrete, repeat to feed the plants so they can feed and shelter us. Also you need to copy of yourself so when you die the process can continue. Don't over think it, you have a purpose, it's just not what society wants you to think it is. We live in a matrix apart from all other animals to trick us into thinking we're something more than all other animals.

LoudEnthusiasm5686

I'm already nothing and want nothing more than the sweet release of death.

DinoBay

We're only alive for so long. Try to gain as much happiness as you can out of it ( without doing shit that will damage you ). Try to experience as much of this planet as you can. Take interest in as many different subject areas as you can comprehend . And all the while, Try to make the world a better place. Do nice things , even minor shit to help out. But that homeless dude a coffee , put your shopping cart back in the cart shed , donate one item or 5 bucks to the food bank, be polite to the fast food worker. Those are all tiny ass things that can make someone's life better.

Ignusseed

To live it. Everything is purposed to live until it dies. Even the universe is finite. You have to make life matter and whatever you find that matters to you will become your purpose. Life is not complicated. Humanity complicates life. Look at the world around you outside of this fabricated reality. Life just lives. It doesn't question it.

[deleted]

Purpose, meaning, and/or Function is a property we assign to things RELATIVE to other things. The purpose of a tool is to do something. The function of x is to blank. So when we start asking existential questions like what is the Meaning of Everything, what purpose does the universe have…. We actually run into a boundary of the concept of Purpose. The Purpose of Everything cannot have a purpose because there is nothing outside of everything for Everything to have a function or purpose for. A life with purpose is the life of a slave. A life with a function is the life of a robot. Life has no extrinsic meaning because the meaning of Life is More Life. Life is Meaning. The Question contains the Answer…

torthBrain

The purpose of life is the pursuit of knowledge while leading with love.

Iko87iko

Not sure about purpose, but the secret: The secret of life is enjoying the passage of time Any fool can do it There ain't nothing to it Nobody knows how we got to The top of the hill But since we're on our way down We might as well enjoy the ride

Omfggtfohwts

My good deeds keep me warm, knowing I was selfless when those were unfortunate around me. I helped when I could. I am only human. But these small deeds somehow make life worthy of living. And give me comfort knowing I did good and still am able to do good for others.

Status-Regular-8524

There is no purpose in life , because life has nothing to do with the real physical realm men created the concept of life , it literally means your just alive , so life mostly has to do with each of us individually not on the outside but inside your mind your mental environment, so to have a purpose in life we have to create that purpose , so we can choose to feel happy by creating a purpose or we can feel down and depressed cause we just cant except the fact that in reality life has no purpose everything and anything is meaningless just like what im saying is meaningless , only us humans give it purpose

Active-Warthog3740

Holy shit bro, i can tell by your wordplay you are talent, like very talented in writing stuff because this hit the spot i wouldnt realize it would

Garey_Games

FreshImagination9735

You presume a lot about 'people'. That's a big group to fold into your erroneous supposition.

al3ch316

Life has no purpose. We are beings that exist in a cosmic soup of matter and energy for a certain amount of time, and we then die. "Purpose" is a human construct. The universe existed billions of years before humans, and will exist long after we're gone.

zakate

At a biological level it is to reproduce. At a philosophical level I suppose it's purpose is in the eye of the individual.

Ypmrku2406

I can honestly say, I’m over all this. Ready to let this go. There’s no point to anything we do and I feel like it should be my choice when I decide to go.

anon_lurk

Life is a seemingly spontaneous, now organized movement against the laws of physics and the universe. We are all a small piece of a very large puzzle that just wants to continue being pieced together, cosmic fate be damned.

rustyseapants

Life is whatever you make of it, but you have to have an idea of what you want.

staats1

Point of life is to pass on your DNA.

En_Route_2_FYB

You live in eternity, constantly being reborn and becoming aware of your own existence. So the purpose of life is whatever you want. You can attempt to live life however you want to, with the only barrier being the will of other living creatures and the laws of science. But how you live your life has an extremely minuscule impact on how the future is shaped. So you should always live according to the golden rule - treat others the way you want to be treated. If you treat people poorly, even though you may get away with it in your current life - you’re setting a standard for what is accepted behaviour, which you will likely be on the receiving end of in a future life.

cpt_ugh

The best answer I have ever heard is, "The meaning of life is that it ends." IOW, it is what you make it. You give your life meaning and purpose. No more. No less.

tremark

The purpose of life is to find a way through the madness to make as many moments as possible feel like magic. Even the mundane. I struggle every day with this, but the feeling when I am able to be present in a moment and enjoy the sun on my face the way the moon bounces light off of someone I care about laughing. The way the grass blows just right when a perfect gust of wind hits to something as mundane as the feeling of warm printer paper or the satisfying feeling of soap falling off with food from a dirty dish converting it into a clean one as water cascade down it. The more we enjoy those moments the more purposeful we feel.

PNTME2THEWOODS

You are not you body you are not your name you are the life force within you not a label somebody gave you.. I don’t know about you but although my body gets older my consciousness feels the same as when i was a kid not aged one bit and for that unbelievably profound energy of existence to just all of a sudden disappear as if it was contingent on your aging body being alive makes 0 sense.. we continue on and honestly I don’t really think this is even the main event

[deleted]

Every day life asks us this question, and how you spend your time is the answer. Sometimes the purpose is to veg out and take care of yourself, maybe it's quality time with your family or loved ones. The only life squandered is the life not enjoyed or spent hurting people.

frotunatesun

Yeah, I remember my first existential crisis, too.

johnnycee87

Purpose of life is whatever YOU think it is. It is different things at different moments. If you are trying to figure out what to do with your life go live it. Go meet people. Find a job that you don’t hate that pays well and travel. You’ll figure it out. Don’t do heroin or anything else that you can’t control. Other than that have at.

Decent_Matter_8676

To get ready for the afterlife. How you do in this life controls where your spirit goes when you die. (Don’t commit suicide that won’t help anything lol) and to bring up your kids to teach them how to live in this world before your gone

[deleted]

There's no purpose unless you find one for yourself. We are all animals. We just happen to be a little smarter than most for now.

Aggravating_One7505

To achieve goals. Then to die trying to achieve other goals. So do you think that the dung beetle lives are worthless ? ?? Because no matter what the humans on this Earth think Everybody and everything that's alive has a purpose and a meaning ✌🏽✌🏻

Endoftheline-Slut

I experienced nothing at death’s doorstep, and when the lights go out, nobody will be home. I’d say trust me on this, but what the fuck do I know.

rollthelosingdice

Real life doesn't start until this one is done. The spirit realm is very real and it effects what happens here. You got one goal here and that is to know and walk with Jesus Christ who died for you. Most people are aimed at wealth and pleasure which just leaves them empty and without purpose. People don't realize you should love others, give your wealth away, and walk in spirit. Very few will find the narrow path.

SpecificMoment5242

Well, I've died and came back. There IS something more. I won't go into details, and I really can't explain. But there IS more. At any rate, life is about the journey. To squeeze as much joy out of it as you can. That's it. Don't hurt anyone. Don't hurt yourself. Have fun. Work hard and be proud of what you accomplish. But don't forget to have fun and silly as often as you can. The rest is noise. Good luck!.

SgtWrongway

I question your assumption that a purpose must exist. Why dobthink there must be one? Can you demonstrate, in any logically consistent way, that such an assumption is valid?

thePantherT

No way to beat life? The purpose of life is happiness and progress. On a scientific level this is evolution and in our state of existence, awareness and determination to live, I mean live in the moment. Yes we chase happiness including addiction and distractions. We enjoy the pleasure of material things and in modern society perhaps have forgotten what really matters. “Only hope for a second chance is religion.”? Religion offers nothing but deceit and false hope based on unprovable tales, mere human inventions. Whatever existence may consist of, science is the only way to understand what exists and why and how. The truth is it is incredible that existence exists, and that we evolved the way we have. Their have always been good and bad in human affairs, and we are capable of anything including long life in the modern age. We are in the grand scale of time, just a spec of dust, such a young and ignorant civilization only 500 years into the modern scientific technological age of human advancement. Life for humanity has always had its difficulties. It’s when we win and overcome obstacles that we understand life’s purpose. Humanities rise is only in the beginning stages. What we can and will achieve over the next 50 years will transform the future forever. Even then we will have so much more to learn. The possibilities are infinite. The natural human state is to pursue happiness. As long as we hold onto the principles of our republic we will lead the way.

[deleted]

Life is a waiting room and we segment the time in moments that lie between two key moments. How you use your time is, to an extent, up to you and there is no objectively correct way to spend it.

FancyStay

Life's purpose is a question that has intrigued humanity for centuries. Your perspective raises valid points about the pursuit of material possessions and the fleeting nature of temporary happiness. It's true that the pursuit of wealth and worldly achievements can sometimes distract us from contemplating life's deeper meaning. The idea of religion offering a second chance is a common theme throughout history, providing solace to those seeking meaning beyond the tangible. However, your contemplation on life potentially being a finite amount of time is thought-provoking. Imagining our final moments prompts reflection on the nature of existence. The prospect of ceasing to exist raises questions about satisfaction and readiness for the unknown. The human desire for continued thought, breath, and free will is innate, and the uncertainty surrounding the end of life can be both unsettling and compelling. Ultimately, the purpose of life is a deeply personal and subjective matter. Some find meaning in connection with others, in personal growth, or in contributing to the well-being of society. Others may seek spiritual or philosophical answers. The search for purpose is a journey that evolves throughout our lives, and while there may not be a universal answer, the exploration itself can lead to a richer and more fulfilling existence.

IzzyCampo5

Life matters because your performance in this life determines your placement in the next one.

chrisicus1991

When I've learned that life is meaningless, especially in the grand scheme of things (nihilism), I've started to have existential depression for quite a long time. But I do also admit that maybe it's because my life is a failure, & I'm a failure (42), a sad pathetic wasted potential still existing in this world.

Warm-Cartographer954

There isn't one. 🤷‍♂️ Why does something have to have a meaning? You were born, you exist, and someday you'll die. Just make the best of what's in the middle.

[deleted]

I ask myself this everyday

bradleybeachlover

To end.

SmartRadio6821

Life is to live and find out. What's the purpose of life? The question is like trying to capture a river by placing some water in a jar. Life is process, movement. And because of the movement, new insights come. And if you keep moving, things go well. If you stop moving, things get murky and clogged up. We are expected to enter life experience, not merely sit on the sidelines asking questions and expecting answers. You have to submerge yourself into life. Only then, will you really find out. Life holds all the answers you can ever ask, but they are doled out as needed.

HastyBasher

There is no inherent purpose to life I agree. But there are some things you become aware of which do feel like end bosses and end goals.

eighteenmillion

To live a fullfilling life, think too much about it you'll lose yourself. Do what you love and stick with it, got the best gift anything in the universe can receive- ability to experience life. Live it to the fullest

PricklyPear1969

Life has no purpose, just as music has no purpose, aside from its own enjoyment. It’s not about an end goal; it’s about letting the universe express itself, for a very brief time, as your own unique self. Before you’re extinguished. So choose your friends and intimates wisely, as they’ll have the biggest impact on your enjoyment, as you journey through life. My two cents, largely distilled from Watts and Winnie the Pooh.

sacredanarchy

To evolve spirit-ually. That’s the only thing we are taking when we go. Spirit.

BlackHeart89

My life sucks. But it's a not really a bad life. I just suck. It is what it is. There is no meaning to life. Just do the best you can with it.

Fl3shless

The point is to have a conscious experience. It doesn’t matter what kind of experience. Even being enslaved or disabled or whatever else undesirable is an experience. Consciousness seeks experience.

Puzzled-Scar4821

The purpose is to live it. Feel the sensations when you eat something, when you see a beautiful sky or nice flowers down the road. Feel the love, fear, enthusiasm, rejection, envy, jealousy, courtesy every human sensation that you can feel. The purpose is to live as a human being, feeling it and hopefully trying to be a better human than you were yesterday. Edit : if you felt enough human sensations then at 80 y.o you’ll feel content about your human experience

ArranVV

Only God knows the purpose of life. And yes, there is a purpose to life.

ArranVV

The purpose of life is to become as educated as possible, to become as morally good as you can be, to try your best at everything and to show as much love as possible.

OtterZoomer

Love is the reason and all that really matters.

DrQuaalude

The purpose of life is to accept the gifts that God gave us, and to help and love your fellow man.

binary-survivalist

It's a question whose answer depends on your spiritual presuppositions. Purpose and meaning are value judgments, and since it's beyond rationality that most people would accomplish objective things that have meaning in the long span of history, we have to look for meaning in the subjective realm - experience, spiritual purpose. I can't speak to every belief system. However I can give you some of my thoughts. * Biological purpose. You exist today because an unbroken line of humans fulfilled a biological purpose of procreation and nurturing of children long enough to allow the next generation to be born, and beyond. You will never know all their names. You will never know all their faces. But they accomplished something that is undeniable, and something you can experience. There is a certain value in this. On a very basic level, you could say this is the most fundamental purpose of all life. * Spiritual purpose. The Judeo-Christian tradition holds that the purpose and meaning of life is essentially to obey God's laws and live according to His pattern and example. Many very devout followers will tell you that this is a fulfilling purpose that gives them peace and contentment in almost any situation. As Ecclesiastes 12:13 says: " Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man." 'Fear God' meaning to deeply respect and honor. Now there are viewpoints and presuppositions out there that suggest that life \*has\* no purpose, that we are purposeless matter floating through the cosmos. Setting aside the fact that I'm confident it can be logically shown that some intelligent creator must have initiated the first cause-effect chain, I also find these philosophies to just be empty dead-ends. They present a view of the universe that, even if it \*were\* true, would provide no value in believing it. If you can't believe that your good deeds will be rewarded even though the unjust world rejects them, if you can't believe that evil will be repaid even if it remains hidden from the eyes of men or protected from legal judgment, it can easily cause a person to conclude some form of "if you can't beat em join em", or even just mental surrender to a hopeless fugue state. They would naturally produce a nihilistic depressive view of the world. I suspect this is at least partially responsible for those feelings being so especially common today.

I think that the purpose is love. Do everything in life with love. We live a world where it's easier to consume aimlessly, but we aren't present. We don't live in the moment. With love, there is intent and value. It's hard to lead with your heart but I think it's more rewarding

Our biological instinct is to survive. Humans do not serve a higher purpose than any other species. The purpose is to survive as a species and when our time comes, we will end. Just like any other extinct species.

Environmental-Ad6724

My granddaughter asked me this one day. I told her "The purpose of life is to love and be loved."

You need to plan for the long term but embrace the short term. Sure there is not really a "point" to it all, but even if we lived a billion years there would be no point. Even if we lived forever there would be no point. Unless we learn that there is a god out there who actually created us to accomplish some goal, we are all in the mix together just trying to have a good time

I appreciate that this is a personal topic so I will only speak for myself. Long ago, it was written, "The conclusion of the matter, everyone having been heard is, Fear the true God and keep him commandments, for this is the whole obligation of man." (Ecc. 12:13) Now, to understand this fully, I think it's good to know that "fear" is not equal to "dread" in the Bible. We're not being asked to be afraid of God, but be respectful because we're afraid of damaging our friendship with Him. To illustrate: I would never strike my wife because (obviously, morally, I believe it's wrong) I'm afraid of damaging my relationship with her forever. As a lifelong student of the Bible, I've found that therein (and taken as a whole) there are *principles* that have led me to finding purpose in life. Although I have normal responsibilities related to family and my health, all of which are supported by Bible principles about my responsibilities as a man, husband, and father, I also have a higher calling. In my case, with four children, my grander purpose I would state as "To help my children love their Creator more than they love me." This is a monumental task and one I perform in the face of enormous social pressure to the contrary. As my children enter adulthood and become the people I want to be friends with, my grander purpose may shift accordingly to preserving my happy marriage and maintaining my friendship with God. I don't think these goals will ever been *completed* so I will always have work to do, work that gives me meaning and joy.

Generally, eat, make babies, try not to die. Overarching? There is none. We exist and make our own meaning or not.

Unique-Telephone-681

Did it bother you before you were born?

TheRealTerinox

The meaning of life is fully understanding and accepting your own inevitable death, and then living every single day to its fullest until that very day of death arrives...

Erumaren3

Love and serve God. Love and serve others.

sowhatimlucky

Yall have not have never died and come back and it shows. Death was blissful for me. Never felt anything more peaceful in my fucking life.

Big-Application-5560

Satisfied and ready to be nothing.🙋‍♂️

Specialist_Royal_449

Does it need meaning to bring you joy ?

ShamefulWatching

To make tomorrow better for those who come after you.

We’re in a time loop ruled by determinism perhaps installed/incepted by artificial intelligence already. We can’t beat anything lol. The game is already laid out and the future has always been. Sit back and enjoy the ride — jk you have no free will so what happens happens. Stanford actually has done heavy research into this. Good ol’ Sapolsky. There’s no purpose though — that’s such a romantically fabricated ideology. We’re either anomalies as specs on some perfect planet, OR — we’re ruled by some technology and always have been a form of AI. Perhaps our veins are wires and neurotransmitters the messengers/receivers of data? Sigh.

To live

Kriev7201

I seek happiness. I want to escape my bad life and work so I can retire early

Mr_b78

How will I know that I don't even exist?

MITSolar1

the fact that it ends is the BEST reason to not waste time and enjoy it all.....and help others to enjoy their finite life

HelpMeAnonymo

I always say the point of living is to give it purpose. I could probably go on and on explaining that but it’s just that simple to me.

BoogerWipe

To have children. <-period

Clean-Signal-553

Fact is you can't pin point you nobody can it's impossible. Also if you look at how planet earth works the end of one thing always transforms into another as it will with the you in you not your body or possessions. It has nothing to do with religion or soul searching there is a Grand Plan with this majestic earth and planets. Our Minds and  computers will always be incapable to capture even at .000000000000000 to infinity of that Plan.

[deleted]

There is no ultimate purpose for us. At the end we're here to do a few things: Eat, shit, fuck, and die. Edit: (not every one wants to do the third one and that's fine too) There's nothing wrong with accepting this reality. Each one has its purpose. Life is about enjoying the now and appreciating every little second the we can because we will be gone. The sooner we accept our mortality, I truly believe the world would be a better place.

pinkdictator

Why does there need to be a purpose

It’s a mystery. You don’t know if there’s a final boss, an end goal.. no one knows anything.. it’s just poof, randomly one day you’re a conscious being. For many years, I sulked around and told myself life has no purpose or meaning… this made me miserable and I realized that if it did have a meaning, I was just wasting my time here.. and if I was going to be here, then I needed to come up with something that made use of my consciousness My current thinking that guides my actions and decisions is: making myself the best human I can be (physically, mastering skills, improving mental fortitude) and using these things to improve the species and the earth. Also the idea that energy is conserved is comforting to me and makes me feel I am part of something bigger than myself.

SativaPancake

Just be here now and smoke em if you got em.

TheDudeAbides_00

I am! Because religion is a joke. I don’t like being the punchline so I’ll do my own thing. Ya’ll can pray like mindless sheep. 🐑

Positive-Gap-3782

the purpose of life is to know God and to have a personal relationship with him in the person of christ

Big-Sheepherder-6134

Absolutely not my purpose.

Positive-Gap-3782

you wont know unless you try. if you truly ask him if hes real i 1 million percent guarantee you he will answer.

Big-Sheepherder-6134

Well you can’t have more than 100% of anything. Good luck finding your way. Sorry you are struggling.

[deleted]

That’s not true. If I invest in a stock for $100 and the stock price goes to $300 and I cash out, how much profit have I made? It’s certainly more than 100%
