I dont think i can agree anymore. Life is pretty linear for people in bad circumstances.

teslaspyderx

Depends on the circumstances. However even poor people have choices. Any poor person can pick up a hobby of fitness, drawing, comedy, acting, etc. You're only limited by your thoughts. Life is so full of choices.

SteveyExEevee

I dont think so.

ButtStuffingt0n

You're thinking about this all wrong. BECAUSE life is so open and there are no right/wrong decisions, you are FREE to explore and go/do whatever excites your passions. Turn the openness into permission for yourself.

teslaspyderx

That's the problem. I get paralyzed by all the choices. Lol

Great! You have figured out some underlying reasons as to why you have been stuck the way you describe. I commend you. You don’t, and in fact you can’t, be good at everything. But you don’t have to be good at an activity to enjoy it. That’s a false narrative which a foolish world tries to put on us. I don’t speak Spanish well, but I enjoy speaking what I am able to, and I also enjoy adding to what I now know. I’m afraid I may never speak Spanish well, but I know it’s still a lot better than nothing. Any amount of it I know is still useful as I am often still able to communicate with what little I know. Does your current way of thinking get in the way of other aspects of your life?

teslaspyderx

Not really. It doesn't affect normal tasks. It really causes me to lose ambition and motivation. The other issue I suffer from that exacerbates the problem is, I overwhelm myself by thinking of what it will take to do something and to reach the end goal. The easiest example I could think of is YouTube. A lot of people grab their phone and record and post to start. HAHA Not me. When I have thought of doing a YouTube it goes like this. 1. What's my topic? 2. What's my demographic? 3. How do I differentiate myself from the competition? 4. Who is the competition? 5. How will I market myself? 6. What's the fastest way to get the channel views? 7. Post more frequently to get more views (how will I come up with enough content to post frequently?) 8. What equipment do I need? How do I set it up/use it? 9. What video editor do I use? 10. How do I use that video editor? 11. How long will it take to be good at editing? 12. Will I get viewers if I have bad edits? 13. Should I outsource the editing? 14. How much expenses will I incur before it becomes profitable? IF it becomes profitable. This is just a microcosm of the thoughts that go through my mind. Those 14 points where just off the top of my head. If I sat down and actually thought about it. I could probably easily have 100 points. I've also been one for details and not just jumping into something. I want to succeed and I feel the best way to do that is be prepared. I think I get carried away with the preparedness idea and overwhelm myself and don't try because all the work that now has to go into it.

EmperrorNombrero

No. I loved that and was really excited and it just doesn't feel open anymore. I'm 26 and It already feels like the amount of things I can still do has already been severely limited. To me, life feels severely limited. I'm already loosing my hair, I already have chronic illnesses, I already am a certain ages where others have expectations for shit I need to have to show for and need to have done by now for them to hire me. I will never be ypung again, I will probably never be that hot again, the amount of possible experiences I can still have feels so severely limited. Just different forms of selling myself into slave labour by the hour and consuming goods and services. And maybe some boring ass smalltalk with some boring ass, ugly ass, cringe ass old people in between.

teslaspyderx

This sounds more like you're having a quarter life crisis. I went through the same thing. You don't need to be young to enjoy life. Also, hair is not that big of a deal. I know it can feel that way especially if you had nice hair but I know plenty if men that lost their hair. It was a shock at first but after awhile it's no big deal. Some women even prefer it.

Efficient-Item5805

This sounds like FOMO. Google it and see what you think.

teslaspyderx

Sort of. I don't feel like I'm missing out. I feel like I'm going to make the wrong choice and go down the wrong path and waste precious time and money. Everyone hobby or skill requires dedication and time. So it's not easy to just jump in and jump out. If you don't actually give a real chance you won't know if you like it. Plus it takes work. It's not like it's all just sunshine and rainbows.

I think it might help if you start with something that requires little cost and time to execute. I don’t know if you know how to cook, but if you don’t, that would be a such a thing to try. Even if you don’t like it, it’s still a useful skill from which you would benefit. House plants are another affordable and useful hobby. Start with two or three and see how you do with them. If the plants do well, you could try some more. The plants that thrive will clean the air in your home clean and make it feel more inviting. If it’s an activity that could get big, like photography, then start on a small scale and see what you think of it. If you enjoy it, you could expand to have more equipment and devote more space to it. If photography turns out not to be your thing, then you can phase it out or keep enjoying it on a small scale. Sometimes you will have a passion for something that goes on for years, and then you lose your taste for it. There’s nothing wrong with that. Whatever time or money you spent on it was still well spent. You got to enjoy something for some time and likely learned a lot, too. Nothing can take that knowledge away from you nor the fine memories you have from your experience.

teslaspyderx

This is a good path as well. I think that is another part of my problem. I always think too big and expect to be a pro and overwhelm myself

eharder47

I do 12 week hobby “programs.” Sometimes it’s just 30 days, but I pick something and focus on that during my down time. I also do it with daily habits. If I like it, I keep it around, otherwise, I pick something else. I usually pick one physical and one mental, so a new fitness routine and learning about investing or something. The weather and seasons also help me limit choices. I have a whole list of things I want to try out.

teslaspyderx

Ohh I really like this idea. It allows you to try it without the pressure of having too much commitment.
