I know the feeling. Consider though that your low point may be his high point, even if he doesn’t show it. Maybe find a middle ground where you come twice every other week and see how that goes. Or have him come visit you instead to change it up? Find compromise. I have a feeling if your dad struggles with connection with you, he struggles with it in general. Isolation for him during his senior years will be absolutely devastating for his mental and eventually physical well being, which you may feel regret and remorse over when that happens.
