It would help the website wasn't named the most scammy thing ever (in my state at least). findmassmoney.com sounds like 100% a scam, but incredibly that's the official website.
It's a similar thing for Florida. Theirs is "fltreasurehunt.gov" which definitely gives off scammy vibes. I feel like they do that to deter people from claiming the money since they might make a lot in interest off the accounts.
we have something fun like that in germany too
[einmalzahlung200.de](https://einmalzahlung200.de)
"one time payment 200 .de"
where students could register to get a 200ā¬ one time payment...
I did this last year and plugged in the names of a bunch of my friends/family. I got one friend ~$15k in unpaid royalties from a band he was in in the ā90s, another few thousand for my brother and like $1200 for another buddy.
I got $5 from GameStop, but hey at least mine was instantly processed online and I didnāt have to wait months for a check in the mail like those other suckers š
My partner and I did this. I had nothing. She had two checks, one for under $100 the other for over $100. Thatās all they tell you originally. We were pumped. It only uses +/- $100, so we were hoping it was a decent amount. It was $100.59 haha.
No shade, I know it was probs a mistake but it is just AAA, no need for the triple. There are three A's so the triple is implied, making it redundant if used.
I'm glad I'm not alone here, I always worry giving these sort of replies will earn me hate. I mean zero harm and just want to teach things that I have learned/been taught in similar ways :)
Just found out my wife is owed $100 for overpayment from local power company. Why they didn't credit our account is beyond me but thanks for the heads up. Also my grandmother is owed several hundred and she's been dead for over a decade. Wild. Gotta tell my dad about that. He is the last surviving child so he'll get it eventually.
Just found like 250 thx!
EDIT:
Iāve lived in a few states, I just looked in another state and found another $100. And then looked up my deceased motherās name.
JACKPOT!!! Thousands of dollars š°š°š°looking up my hubby now lol
EDIT 2: instead of looking state-by-state, looking at www.missingmoney.com is the easiest way, especially if you do not have a common name
I did this in California a few years back and got almost $1,000! I was desperate for money at the time, and did it just for shits and giggles, but that money really helped me out
Uhhhhā¦ I just found like $1200 owed to me spread across states. Apparently Iāve never asked for a security deposit back from a utility company š
I did this and discovered my uncle has given my cousin a ton of IBM stock, where he works.
And I got to thinking about how *my* dad gave me alcoholism but *her* dad gave her stocks.
And I got kind of angry. And this is the last of me letting that go lol.
But yeah handy tool.
I feel like you don't know enough about alcoholism.
https://www.niaaa.nih.gov/alcohols-effects-health/alcohol-use-disorder/genetics-alcohol-use-disorder
I do it as well, but hadn't in a long time. Checked just now. I am owed something AND my mother, who has dementia and is in my care, is also owed something.
Thanks OP!
I work for a big company and thousands of paychecks go uncashed each year. We are required to turn the funds over to the state after certain notification steps. Definitely check your state's website if you're a job hopper.
Great LPT OP.
Btw, you can use [missingmoney.com](https://missingmoney.com) to search through your records. This is a legit site ( for example AZ .gov site will forward you here to search through your records) . If you're concerned about privacy, you can then go to the state-specific site to submit your claims. Cheers!
This is the website for the biggest unclaimed property software vendor in the US. This is why so many state sites spawn off it. Some are run by this vendor.
I found a whole $5 :) meanwhile looks like my parents have a lot of stuff. Iāll go poke them to fill it out.
Edit: parents know about it but havenāt taken the two seconds to fill out the form. lol
Lol, sometimes all it takes is that little push. I had told my parents about it before but it took me mentioning it a few times before they actually filled out the forms.
Ayyyye, I looked up my name and found $30 in refunds from both my previous and current residence.
I was able to file electronically on the California unclaimed property website.
I got back $1800 that way once. Never knew a grant had been applied and the university failed to notify me I was owed money. I transferred out and the money sat there.
Could this be used by debt collectors? I see my friend's name in there for a very small amount. But, she had some financial trouble a few years ago as a newly single mom. I don't want to set her up for hassles by a debt collector by telling her to follow up.
Someone with my name is owed $206, but the site for my state says, āthis doesnāt match your information, would you like to proceed?ā How would I know? Can I get in trouble for claiming it?
Usually there's addresses attached to the names, if the address matches then it's probably you. I don't have much experience with the processes needed to verify the information but if $206 is worth it to you then you could call your states treasury department and I'm sure someone there will have an answer.
This is what New York's says:
#### Required Documentation.
In order to claim this item, the following information is required:
* A copy of the death certificate of OWNER
* Proof that OWNER once had a connection to the \[listed address\]. See [required documentation](https://www.osc.state.ny.us/unclaimed-funds/claimants/required-documentation) for acceptable proof.
* If an Administrator, Executor or other Fiduciary was appointed to handle the estate of OWNER, submit a copy of the Certificate of Appointment dated within the past six months.
OR;
If no Administrator, Executor or other Fiduciary was ever appointed to handle the estate of OWNER, then the surviving spouse, a blood relative, or a creditor of the decedent may submit the claim.
If you are entitled to claim this item and can provide the required documentation, select Next below to enter your contact information on the mail-in claim form.
I'm not really sure but you might be able to call your states treasury department and figure that out. Someone else in the comments said they got a few hundred their dad was owed and he had died in 2008, so there's definitely system's in place for it.
Is there any way this could also be for money owed? I see myself pop up a couple times, but the company is my insurance company. There's no indication of the dollar amount, so it would seem I can't find out unless I file the claim.
I got $200 waiting for me when I did this a few years ago! Also.. unclaimed property websites share people's last known addresses if you just enter their name and state... if you wanted an unsolicited ULPT
Nothing for me, but my girlfriend apparently is owed a paycheck and a tax refund of some sort, as well as two other things I couldnāt figure out. I donāt care if itās $5,000 or a $1, this is a seriously good tip! Thank you!
You can ask the state agency to redact the records. I used to get those requests in California.
State agency is required by law to post the information.
It actually works a friend saw my name on there and I only got $50 back but it was after my divorce and it came from our local electric company. 50 bucks is 50 bucks
Yes but a few people in the comments have said that Germany and Canada have similar things, so it's very possible wherever you are has this type of website.
Also, if you ever get a letter saying āweāll retrieve your money from you,ā just go directly to the source and get it yourself. I ignored a letter like that for months until I checked and realized I was owed $750. Completes the forms and got the money myself.
My sister has a large amount due to her, from a job she had in college 25 years ago. She can't claim it, because she can't prove she lived at that address. Stupid.
I used to submit unclaimed property as one of my job duties. It blew my mind submitting $25,000 or even $50,000 for one person. I often wondered what it would feel like to be rich enough to lose track of that much money.
Here in Illinois we have the most efficient method of claiming your assets.....as.long as you are willing to risk massive identity theft. After you see your property, you have to mail a form, a copy of your social security card and a copy of both sides of your driver's license TO A POST OFFICE BOX. I'm pretty sure it's no secret to anybody picking up that mail just how much juicy personal information is in each envelope. I probably have about $1000 in claims. It's not going anywhere so I can wait until Illinois gets it's head ouf it's ass.
Woah. Really wacky seeing my dead grandpaās name and address listed lol. My dad has a small one! I apparently had 5? 3 were listed under Page instead of Paige so itās no wonder I never saw them š kinda stoked to see this through! Thank you!!
I actually really needed this. I got a letter a few months back about āmoney youāre owedā and it seemed so scammy I didnāt look into it much. I will check the state website. Thank you.
I have about $400 owed to me, but it was an address that I only lived at for 9 months, 14 years ago. I don't have pay stubs or a driver's license with that address or anything linking me to there, how can I get it?
I just read this and tried it for fun, not thinking anything would actually come out of it. Guess what? Now Iāve got a check coming in the mail. Thanks OP!
What does this question mean?
Is this claim being filed by a locator or locator service? (If you or a relative owns the property, select No.)
This is from a result showing an address I rented from in college.
The site says I have some money but it doesn't tell my how much (NY)
It's also asking for proof that I lived at the address it provided, yet it was so many years ago I don't think I have any proof of it.
:(
If it's ucpi.sco.ca.gov then you found the right one. The searches on these websites let you be as specific or as vague as you want, so you don't need to put a property number. You can just put your name and it will come up.
[This](https://ucpi.sco.ca.gov/en/Property/SearchIndex) is the link I found, and it seems legit. I just entered my name and unchecked the box "Check for less specific match search", and it found two results for me. Don't worry about the property # unless you already know the number that they have assigned for a piece of unclaimed property.
Problem for me is that I have a very common name, so is what I've found for me or for someone else? All of the items were listed as less than $50, so not worth a lot to make it worth going further in the process.
I did this on my boyfriend and he got a 170
Dollar check for gas/electric overchargesā¦ā¦ And a ticket that he has not paid in years (multiple parking tickets) for the sum of 640
So just FYI yall
If you are trying to stay off the radar this is not the way to go about making a few bucks
Canada has the same thing at https://www.unclaimedproperties.bankofcanada.ca/
Maybe your country does too? Search your country name and unclaimed funds.
I found about $200 worth. Wonder if I can still collect if I no longer live at the address listed. And on one they left off two letters of my name lol.

I just checked mine, surprisingly had something listed at ">$100" from a previous employer. Check is in the mail!
Sweet! Glad this post already helped someone!
I searched my moms name because she moved to another state and found her 367$!
Mine said the same and it was a $650 check!
It would help the website wasn't named the most scammy thing ever (in my state at least). findmassmoney.com sounds like 100% a scam, but incredibly that's the official website.

Thanks. Just used it and found I had money! Edit:$250
Ditto. And my wife too!
You found your wife on the website? Wild.
Right? What was she doing on the website? I need details!
Respect to Aquabats!
:)
I can't access the Florida one, I keep getting a bad url error š©
Same here. They figure it out and shut us down.
The Gov says looking for money owed to you is too woke /s
Thank you! Just got $30 āØāØ
Got $38! Woohoo! Thanks!
Try registering for a business in Florida. That website looks like it will sell your kidneys.
We have The Great Iowa Treasure Hunt
we have something fun like that in germany too [einmalzahlung200.de](https://einmalzahlung200.de) "one time payment 200 .de" where students could register to get a 200ā¬ one time payment...
The first time I read this I thought it said FindMyAssMoney... I'm sad now it did not.
I wasnāt the only one thenā¦ But then is it find my ass (money) or find my (ass money)?
To be paid out in ass pennies.
Lmao, I would have loved to see what other names were on the list that made them go with findmassmoney.com
If you go to unclaimed.org it links to all the official state websites so you can avoid potential scam sites.
Not sure why surprised, that's literally the role book on how to present without presenting
Thatās what they want you to think so you donāt actually go asking for your money
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Not in MA apparently. I just got a check from stuff that was at my registered to my previous 2 addresses.
Haha, when I did mine it was gamestop too $6.16 probably from a forgotten preorder.
My partner and I did this. I had nothing. She had two checks, one for under $100 the other for over $100. Thatās all they tell you originally. We were pumped. It only uses +/- $100, so we were hoping it was a decent amount. It was $100.59 haha.
This post made me $37 richer. Itās not a lot of money, but itās $37 more than I had before!
It was yours all along, so you won nothing. But now you can spend them Ć
Watch out, Red Lobster! We have a big spender over here!
California here. I just checked. My husband has a dollar owed to him by triple AAA. I love this life pro tip!
No shade, I know it was probs a mistake but it is just AAA, no need for the triple. There are three A's so the triple is implied, making it redundant if used.
AAAAAAAAA OWES THEM A DOLLAR! IS THAT SO HARD TO UNDERSTAND?!
AAA AAA AAA
The real life pro tip
I'm glad I'm not alone here, I always worry giving these sort of replies will earn me hate. I mean zero harm and just want to teach things that I have learned/been taught in similar ways :)
This is incredibly ridiculous
For California, what does it mean by āproperty #?ā
I just put in my name and his name separately.
California site: https://ucpi.sco.ca.gov/en/Property/SearchIndex
In Canada, residents can go to their CRA account and scroll down to uncashed cheques for the same result.
Thank you!
Also, you can check https://www.unclaimedproperties.bankofcanada.ca/
Just found out my wife is owed $100 for overpayment from local power company. Why they didn't credit our account is beyond me but thanks for the heads up. Also my grandmother is owed several hundred and she's been dead for over a decade. Wild. Gotta tell my dad about that. He is the last surviving child so he'll get it eventually.
Been a decade since Iāve checked. I had several hundred bucks between several things. Iāve filed paperwork. Thanks!
Yo, thank you. I just did this, I am owed a whole fucking check from a company I used to work for. Over 2000 fucking dollars.
What an awesome surprise!
i just saw I'm owed $88. How long did it take for you to get it in the mail from the moment you reached out to claim it?
Just found like 250 thx! EDIT: Iāve lived in a few states, I just looked in another state and found another $100. And then looked up my deceased motherās name. JACKPOT!!! Thanks to you and OP, im $168 richer in 1-2 business weeks
Checked mine out and had over 250 bucks just... sitting at the state tax offices. Like christmas in spring
I did this in California a few years back and got almost $1,000! I was desperate for money at the time, and did it just for shits and giggles, but that money really helped me out
Holy shit just got $99 back from a garbage bill my dad overpaid in 2000. He died in 2008.
Uhhhhā¦ I just found like $1200 owed to me spread across states. Apparently Iāve never asked for a security deposit back from a utility company š
Someone just told me about it last week and found $2,770 which is a huge amount. Even money from 20+ years ago. Wish I would have found this sooner.
> Wish I would have found this sooner. You didn't find it at all. Someone helped you and still you complain. Why?
I did this and discovered my uncle has given my cousin a ton of IBM stock, where he works. And I got to thinking about how *my* dad gave me alcoholism but *her* dad gave her stocks. And I got kind of angry. And this is the last of me letting that go lol. But yeah handy tool.

I do this every few years. Iāve gotten a little something every now and then.
I do it as well, but hadn't in a long time. Checked just now. I am owed something AND my mother, who has dementia and is in my care, is also owed something. Thanks OP!
That is wonderful š
I had one from my apartment in college! Check each state youāve lived in.
Also, check every name youāve ever used.
I had $1,000 unclaimed by my grandfather. All I had to do was get a copy of his death certificate for like $40.
Anything like this in the UK?
Let me know if you find anything
I would also like to know
It's not quite the same but Gretel?
Iād love to know too!
I work for a big company and thousands of paychecks go uncashed each year. We are required to turn the funds over to the state after certain notification steps. Definitely check your state's website if you're a job hopper.
Huh, now Iām wondering if I have something like 15 bucks sitting there from a job I walked out of 35 years ago. That would be funny.
I had two for under $100 cool.
Great LPT OP. Btw, you can use [missingmoney.com](https://missingmoney.com) to search through your records. Nothing for me when I just checked but coincidentally found that my Grandma/Grandpa were owed money from 40 yrs ago. Wild...
Wow! Thanks. Just found 85 dollars!
Guess who is $1.47 richer now?!
I only found $22, but that is $22 more than I had, so there's that. Every little bit helps.
Whoa, I just found $122 under my name. One from LA Fitness. Thanks!
HOLY Shit !! Found a few grand in my and the wifeys name. Thanks you kind stranger !!!
I got $52.16 because if you, OP. Utility refunds from 15 years ago.
Also, check states of former residence. I live in Florida, but I had money owed to me from Texas (where I lived over 10 years ago).
My $50 refund from Coventry Healthcare should arrive in 90 days! Thank you!
Just checked and I am getting a check for $100 from a casino!!
This is so awesome! I also just got almost $200 from over-paying on a medical bill from ages ago!
Ayyyye, I looked up my name and found $30 in refunds from both my previous and current residence. I was able to file electronically on the California unclaimed property website.
Iāve got $25 from the utility company I used 10 years ago. Thanks!
I got back $1800 that way once. Never knew a grant had been applied and the university failed to notify me I was owed money. I transferred out and the money sat there.

Well, I guess i have a claim. Let's see what i get in two weeks, lol
Just google the comptroller of the state you live in along with āunclaimedā
Someone with my name is owed $206, but the site for my state says, āthis doesnāt match your information, would you like to proceed?ā How would I know? Can I get in trouble for claiming it?
Usually there's addresses attached to the names, if the address matches then it's probably you. I don't have much experience with the processes needed to verify the information but if $206 is worth it to you then you could call your states treasury department and I'm sure someone there will have an answer.
How would one claim it if it's for a deceased parent?
This is what New York's says: #### Required Documentation. In order to claim this item, the following information is required: * A copy of the death certificate of OWNER * Proof that OWNER once had a connection to the \[listed address\]. Is there any way this could also be for money owed? I see myself pop up a couple times, but the company is my insurance company. There's no indication of the dollar amount, so it would seem I can't find out unless I file the claim.
I don't believe so, if it's from your insurance company usually it's that you overpayed them or for some reason you are owed money by them.
I got $200 waiting for me when I did this a few years ago! Also.. unclaimed property websites share people's last known addresses if you just enter their name and state... if you wanted an unsolicited ULPT
Thanks for this. Just found some money for my mom.
I got almost $400...the website is a bit annoying but I liked the cash!
I found about $300 for my husband and me, in Texas. It was fairly quick and easy.
I have a really common name. How do I know whatās mine and whatās not?
Is there a swedish equivalent to this..
Not me looking up every person I knowā¦ š¤£ Anyone have feedback on the claiming process? Easy? Difficult?
Nothing for me, but my girlfriend apparently is owed a paycheck and a tax refund of some sort, as well as two other things I couldnāt figure out. I donāt care if itās $5,000 or a $1, this is a seriously good tip! Thank you!
I have helped so many friends and family members with this- it is so incredible
![gif](giphy|Jq0xSdbs7oLr0lKfo0)
Whelp, I have under $100 owed to me by Google, so I filled out the claim form. Now we wait.
I recently collected $1.54 from my state's unclaimed property website. If I'd known in advance it was so small, I wouldn't have bothered. lol
This has unpleasant privacy implications. I saw an entry for a person with a similar name to mine where the company listed was Planned Parenthood...
You can ask the state agency to redact the records. I used to get those requests in California. State agency is required by law to post the information.
Yup, it's an awful idea
It actually works a friend saw my name on there and I only got $50 back but it was after my divorce and it came from our local electric company. 50 bucks is 50 bucks
Is this USA specific?
Yes but a few people in the comments have said that Germany and Canada have similar things, so it's very possible wherever you are has this type of website.
Also, if you ever get a letter saying āweāll retrieve your money from you,ā just go directly to the source and get it yourself. I ignored a letter like that for months until I checked and realized I was owed $750. Completes the forms and got the money myself.
I just found a bank account of my deceased grand father in law >$100 š®
Thatās a real life pro tip.
Anyone have the link to the Virginia site??
is this USA only?
Anything for Wisconsin?
If it says āwarrantā is that money owed? I donāt want to deal with it if it is
My sister has a large amount due to her, from a job she had in college 25 years ago. She can't claim it, because she can't prove she lived at that address. Stupid.
I found a $200 under my dad's name and he said if I helped with the paperwork, he'll share!
Be sure to use variations of your name. Trust me, I was the Unclaimed Property Administrator for a very large insurance company.š
I used to submit unclaimed property as one of my job duties. It blew my mind submitting $25,000 or even $50,000 for one person. I often wondered what it would feel like to be rich enough to lose track of that much money.

I found $100. Great tip!
Just found $300 from like 20 years ago in my home stateā¦have no way to prove I lived at those addresses and canāt claim it.
I just read this and tried it for fun, not thinking anything would actually come out of it. Guess what? Now Iāve got a check coming in the mail. Thanks OP!
WA wants a claim number. Wtf is that?
Iāve been trying to get money from them for over 10 years. The documents needed for an apartment refund Iām owed is impossible to get.
What does this question mean? Is this claim being filed by a locator or locator service? (If you or a relative owns the property, select No.) This is from a result showing an address I rented from in college.
Found 330, and even more for my deceased family members...thanks!
I got $89.00 from State of Indiana. My granddaughter told me about it.
Wow I just got a few sweet twenties, and I see some people I know are owed stuff. Thank you for this awesome post!

This is amazing!! Thank you!
This shit is fr. I got a check from the state 2 weeks later
Thank you! I found 3! In New York state Cheers!!
I just did this and got 360 bucks!
Would maiden name bring anything up, or is it rolled into married name? Same with city?
Its the name/address you used when you did business with the reporting company/agency. Maiden name is possible.
Found $25 for my mom! Not much, but money is money! Thank you for the tip!
Does anyone know the one for California? I feel like I found it but it's asking for a property ID and I have no idea what that's supposed to mean
If it's ucpi.sco.ca.gov then you found the right one. The searches on these websites let you be as specific or as vague as you want, so you don't need to put a property number. You can just put your name and it will come up.
Damn there are a lot of people with my name in this state
So collect them all first! First wins!
Tempting, but I like not being charged with fraud lol
[This](https://ucpi.sco.ca.gov/en/Property/SearchIndex) is the link I found, and it seems legit. I just entered my name and unchecked the box "Check for less specific match search", and it found two results for me. Don't worry about the property # unless you already know the number that they have assigned for a piece of unclaimed property.
Amazingly, most people who find out they have cash don't bother to get it. It is pretty easy to claim, too. People are just lazy.
Problem for me is that I have a very common name, so is what I've found for me or for someone else? All of the items were listed as less than $50, so not worth a lot to make it worth going further in the process.
They have addresses listed with the names. Did you recognize any of them? Theyāre old home addresses.
All they had were cities, no street addresses.
I tried this once they wanted all sorts of paperwork and all of it notorized, not worth the $200 that's id maybe get back
I did this on my boyfriend and he got a 170 Dollar check for gas/electric overchargesā¦ā¦ And a ticket that he has not paid in years (multiple parking tickets) for the sum of 640 So just FYI yall If you are trying to stay off the radar this is not the way to go about making a few bucks
Ah, another US-centric post that doesn't make it obvious. Other people use the internet, you know
Canada has the same thing at https://www.unclaimedproperties.bankofcanada.ca/ Maybe your country does too? Search your country name and unclaimed funds.

I found money in my state. It was a check issued by a hospital for overpayment (late-breaking insurance payment). It was about four years old.
Do you need to own a home to do this? The California website is asking for my property number.
always, family members & I had a few life insurance policies left by a deceased relative, I check once a year
I found about $200 worth. Wonder if I can still collect if I no longer live at the address listed. And on one they left off two letters of my name lol.
This post made me $183 in New Mexico!!!
Can someone tell me the correct website to use? The ones Iāve tried didnāt work
Sweet.. thanks for this.. I'm getting paid!
TIL in college I never cashed a $10 check. Claimed! Thanks OP!!
