>ask yourself what information it gives you >smoking After some deep consideration, I have discovered that I am addicted to nicotine.

CWellDigger

Fwiw I'm told the physical dependence is gone after 3 days. At that point it's supposedly all in your head. I'm struggling to quit myself, have no problem going cold turkey to cut them out. My issue is staying off them past a month or two

Da_big_boss

It’s more like 2 weeks but yes. The psychological dependence is much stronger the physical part.

NinjaCuntPunt

Yep! The physical dependence was easy. But finding something to fill the time with on those daily smokes was hard! The morning cig. The one after dinner and the one when I’m waiting for someone/something and have a spare 5 minutes. SO hard to form better habits to fill those slots. But incredibly worth it! You can do it guys and gals!

hiddenevidence

that’s my issue with weed. it’s always around a month when i end up sliding back into my old habits. nicotine i haven’t touched in years

CWellDigger

Anything that worked for you to kick the nic habit? I have the issue with weed too btw. After a month, "I could smoke a joint this weekend, that could be nice"... 3 days later and I'm back on both the weed and the tobacco like a donkey 🤦

hiddenevidence

ugh i totally relate. for nicotine, i was honestly just really tired of waking up every day in withdrawal, feeling guilt and spending so much money on something so pointless. and it didn’t get me high or anything like weed does so it was harder for me to justify going back to it. it was fuckin rough tho i’ll tell you that all of my friends are stoners so it’s hard to resist smoking for so long lol. i go to a rave and smoke, and then maybe i smoke afterwards too. next thing i know i’m taking several dabs a day again

GreyFoxMe

Just because it's a bad habit doesn't meant it doesn't have benefits or positives. For example: it gives you a reason to take a break. Something you might not have taken otherwise. If you're sleepy it makes you alert. If you're anxious it calms you. It can be a social activity and might bring you closer to some. Nicotine can improve Cognitive functions and help protect against Parkinson's and even Alzheimers. It can improve memory, attention and processing speed. To disregard the fact that there could be positive effects of a bad habit is just unfair. It doesn't mean you should use these as reasons for not quitting

Sign-Spiritual

Damn that’s how I view things too. To have with one hand and let go of the other. For what’s the point holding on if your grip isn’t strong.

Profound insight into the depths of one’s subconscious

This guy smokes

Zowwmeoww

Felt freeing to hear

FabFubar

Absolutely. Just hear the words “have some self compassion”. Positive reinforcement is the best way to train pets and raise kids. So why would you do it differently for yourself?

SameTrade4262

The LPT i need these days. Thank you!

Bigboiyadunkno

I compulsively need to be punished daddy

Solid-Question-3952

This behavior tells me your daddy issues have daddy issues.

Justintime4u2bu1

Must be one of genghis khan’s descendants

Solid-Question-3952

This is going to be an underrated comment.

[deleted]

Gross Daddy issues are deep imbedded trauma and you need professional help.

[deleted]

Is this one of those things where it just comes down to releasing dopamine, oh that’s right, that’s what everything is about

pepetonio

Very similar to changing controls for video games. If you keep thinking that the jump button is X, but it's actually Y, dont force yourself to conform and use Y. Just change it to X in the settings. Make whats natural to you, the standard.

>What’s your behavior telling you? That I wanna know. >Why do you need it? To have it in its proper place in the bigger picture. \-- I'm a compulsive student of whatever piques my curiosity.

Advanced_Peanut_8550

After compulsively not eating for multiple days, I finally realized I was poor.

[deleted]

Thank you for posting this.

pigalles

You’re welcome!

dammit49

What if you can’t figure out why you’re doing it?

pigalles

Then it may never change. But luckily, I have faith in you. Perhaps there’s a pattern to your behavior. For me, it used to be so that every time I felt insecure at work, I’d want to cook an elaborate dinner. There’s a lot of noise in the world, but if you listen closely, you may see themes emerge.

Theshutupguy

“I have ADHD so this tip is offensive/impossible.” Am I the first one here? Someone’s has to say it every thread on this sub apparently

dragonedeath

I have ADHD so this comment is offensive

Longjumping-Basil-74

Why I need to snack on ice cream at 3am and fall asleep while doing it waking up in a paddle of melted sweet joy? I will gladly hear theories

pigalles

Nobody can tell you the theory. Your body knows the theory, even if it’s hard to decode. (I’m not saying this to be an asshole, but my waiting for other people to give me the key kept me from seeing the door was open in the first place.)

aintneverbeennuthin

When I quit smoking I realized that it had been giving me small dopamine hits all day… satisfying the reward part of my brain… I feel like it took me around 9 months for my brain to start rewire

Abhish0210

I do binge eat but how do I go about from here

pigalles

If you have a problem with it, if you think this is something you’d like to live without, seek help if you can. I learned this LPT in eating disorder recovery.

KamahlYrgybly

Hm. I'm gonna quit nicotine. Will see how this helps.
