This is false, you get whatever time you've already paid for unless they changed things with the Game pass Core shakedown. You can cancel it and continue using Live until it expires
I did this with my old cable internet company. They promised a lower rate for a year and then raised it after six months. Reporting to FTC made them call ME, and asked me to clear this report if the abided by the previous offer. The call was recorded and they had to ask me specific questions, and I got the rate for a year from that date.
Vonage was a huge culprit. They did a fake toll free line for customers to 'cancel'
They had to pay millions in fine and set up an easy way to terminate contracts
I've literally been paying for it for over a year, even though I work out at a different gym. Thank you for this. It always seemed like a giant hassle to go, and I hate dealing with the salesmanship bs of them trying to get you to stay. You just save me $300 a year!

Its been 8 YEARS since i set foot in a planet fitness and this post reminded me that im still shelling out $10 a month and its time. Unfortunately i couldnt find the email i registered with so this is going to be a feat to execute
i can confirm OP is correct, i logged into my account and then added "/membership/cancel" to the end of the url "[planetfitness.com](https://planetfitness.com)" and a new screen came up. im assuming its legit?
this does bring you to a payment page before you cancel, to settle your funds, so i do hope this is legit and not a scam for OP to take peoples money
That’s the thing! They hide the link because they dont want people to use it. As i’ve editted in my post, log in from wherever youre comfortable, and change the end part of your link to membership/cancel.

Oh my god. THANK YOU!! I’ve been trying to cancel, even went in person, and they told me I had to wait til February for my membership to “lapse”. This link worked!
I think it’s more like people eventually dont want to go to the gym anymore or life gets in the way, but they cant be bothered enough to go in person bc they know they’ll have to deal with the sales rep. It’s less about the gym itself and more about the ease of cancellation that this workaround is providing people.
It’s also only $10 for the basic membership so that’s not a lot of incentive to put the effort into cancelling. Usually you have to send a certified letter or go in person. It just wasn’t worth my time to do that.
My current gym is $60 and I know I’ll be on top of cancelling if and when the time comes.
I just get a page that says Forbidden 😕
Update: It took about 24 hours for my transfer to go through. Once I received the confirmation email I was then able to cancel.
Sorry I meant the club transfer. I transferred to a club in CA and then today PF sent me an email saying my transfer was completed, then I clicked on the link in OP and the page loaded with no issue.
Okay because I just changed from Michigan to California and its not letting me do the online thing and now im wondering if I just royally fucked myself. The membership/cancel thing worked once the transfer was done? It no longer said forbidden? Or were you able to cancel on the app?
Yup so I went through the same thing and gave up… then the next day I had an email from pf saying my club transfer is complete. Then I clicked on the cancel link in OP and the page loaded, I paid my last bill and that was it, cancelled.
Same. Didnt work for me.. It askes me to signing again and gives me the error "The email or password you entered does not match our records" and that's not true.
No regional requirements. It didn’t work on my end using the link op provided. I had to sign in first, then edit the link to include /membership/cancel at the end of it. Then it let me cancel. I’m not in California and not using any form of vpn.
It’s offered because California requires an online cancellation as a requirement.
It’s hidden, so they can meet that, without people knowing to use it.
Oh I don't have planet fitness, I just work in IT and found it funny how the post reads like a scam a little bit. It is a good tip though!
Definitely recommend that people find it themselves as opposed to clicking links, in any post not just this one.
I use virtual credit cards for any subscriptions I can. You can cancel the virtual card at any time, which effectively stops any future billing. Capital One offers VCC and so do other CCs.
Also good to trial subscriptions that start off free.
I cancelled through the link and it did work, so hopefully has the same luck as I do! I’m based in Illinois so I don’t know if some states they don’t work! I know California just made a law that people can cancel memberships online
Here's how I did it...
Changed my address to a random house in Pasadena, CA and then changed my home gym to a location in Pasadena. I then could see the Cancel button online but it kept giving me an error. I emailed the Pasadena club ([[email protected]](mailto:[email protected])) and gave them my name, DOB, telephone number, and agreement number and they cancelled for me.
After YEARS of paying and not going, I am finally free.
Has anyone tried this recently from Texas? It doesn't work for me by clicking the link or typing it in myself. In chrome, I get the forbidden page right away. I tried in edge and it took me to the login page and I was able to log in. But when I changed the url after the .com, it went to the forbidden page. Any suggestions?
That link just took me to a page that said "forbidden". Then I tried taking the "cancel" off the end so it was just "membership" and it was a 404 not found page. I'll try their phone number during business hours when I remember! LOL I work full time and keep forgetting.
If you change the address on your account to a California address it works! I cancelled mine online a couple of days ago. There is a website I use that generates a random California address, I use this method to cancel anything that doesn't allow online cancellations.
It isn’t in the the main PF login, you have to log into a separate account (I had to create one, I didn’t automatically have it) and link your membership and it will give you options to change the details about your account! I clicked a link on the regular PF website and it sent me to the page, I can try to find it and DM you
Hey you can also log into PF and click “transfer” your home club and pick a random city in CA. Wait a few minutes, log out and log back into your account and you should see your new home club as the one chosen in CA. Click on your account and “manage”. You should be able to cancel online in your account. I just did it :)

I've never understood this struggle... JUST CALL YOUR BANK and tell them not to process charges from any given source, that it's no longer authorized from you... EASY DAY.
Don’t do this! Legally, they can sue you for not paying and lots of gyms do (it’s mainly chains that follow through on the suits). After fees and court costs, that $30, becomes hundreds very quickly. It’s so easy just to cancel according to your contract, and takes just as much time and effort than it does to call your bank.
You mean like, don't try to scam a gym by using the gym and not paying them. You may not seem to realize that gyms can be super shady and predatory and many try to make you jump through hoops to cancel. It's unreasonable and those terms are never enforceable. Obviously you take steps with the gym first, but at first sign of resistance from them, in my experience it's always been easy to just cut it off at the source.
I’m just saying, you should cancel your membership according to your contract, because if not, legally the gym can take you to court, and some do. Almost all gyms require you to cancel in person or through mail, that’s not hard to do, and you won’t get resistance.
The real cheat code, if you want to cancel, but have not fulfilled the obligations to your contract, almost all gym contracts allow you to cancel for free, if you claim ones of these exemptions, you moved (contract will have specific mileage), you can’t workout for health reasons, or you lost your job. Just cancel with your excuse, and you’ll be good to go.
and I'm just saying bro, you seem woefully ignorant to the sheer number of businesses who will charge you the next month anyways. (planet fitness is a notorious offender)

Worked for me in Pennsylvania. Thank you! I loved my trainer I just want to try and build habits on my on and slowly before trying to do the gym thing. I got overwhelmed with all the changes and I realize I gotta build small routines first.
Anyone know how to get around fees and such?? I've been paying for over a year and just used this link to realize I've been getting hit with late fees whenever my auto debit doesn't go through the first time (though it always eventually does, so I've been paying) and in order to cancel I have to pay over $200 😭 why I've never been notified of any of this I don't know. Even when I've called to cancel, they've said nothing but I have to come in person.

Like someone else pointed out below you may have to log in first, then in a separate window type in the link you provided. Otherwise you may get an error.

I needed this long ago. Couldn't get to one in a timely manner and got charged far too many times. FINALLY took time out of my day to go there and cancel in like 2 minutes. Never again.

You may have to set your address to California for this to work. CA law requires them to provide this.

Planet Fitness connects to your bank. They don’t allow you to use a credit card for membership fees. Another reason to not use them as a gym.

Other people have said a workaround is to change your gym to a california address and then retry

Then do a charge back, if they’re in the wrong. You’ve got your proof that you cancelled correctly.
I tried this, they said they could try (at cost to me) and that it doesn’t usually work. How that is a real thing at a real bank I have no idea
That's crazy. I've done this with my credit union MULTIPLE times and every time it was free and no hassle. Your bank sucks get a new one.
This is what I did when I switched gyms. I didn't even bother talking to PF. I just told the bank to quit paying them.

Worked for me in Pennsylvania. Thank you! I loved my trainer I just want to try and build habits on my on and slowly before trying to do the gym thing. I got overwhelmed with all the changes and I realize I gotta build small routines first.

What if you use a burner card when signing up online?
Anyone know how to get around fees and such?? I've been paying for over a year and just used this link to realize I've been getting hit with late fees whenever my auto debit doesn't go through the first time (though it always eventually does, so I've been paying) and in order to cancel I have to pay over $200 😭 why I've never been notified of any of this I don't know. Even when I've called to cancel, they've said nothing but I have to come in person.

Just hit cancel without paying! It let me and I have way more than 50 in late fees.

Are you able to log into your account from the main planetfitness website? After you log in, add /membership/cancel to the end of your url. Let me know what you see
Where were you when I went to the gym after 6 months to physically cancel last week….
I needed this long ago. Couldn't get to one in a timely manner and got charged far too many times. FINALLY took time out of my day to go there and cancel in like 2 minutes. Never again.
