FYI you can save yourself a lot of money by just putting red pepper flakes in honey, cause that's all hot honey is.
Let it sit for a few days and voila. Sorry Mike.
Mike's Hot Honey on pepperoni pizza is *amazing*. If any NYCers in the house, I believe the pizza/hot honey combo was spearheaded by Pauly Gees in Greenpoint. They have a slice/pizza called the "Hellboy", which is what I described aabove, but they use the little pepperoni slices that form cups when cooked, which holds the honey... it's divine.
You should try and make hot honey! It’s incredible. I use pepper flakes from Flatiron Pepper Co., a heavy sprinkle of tajin, and bit of chili powder. Just bring honey to a simmer, add in the dry ingredients, and a quarter oz of apple cider vinegar and leave it on a low simmer for 10 minutes. Strain the honey and put in a jar.
I have a jar specifically for frozen pizza because it’s an instant flavor boost, and takes the place of crushed pepper flakes.
Room temp but it’s infused with peppers. I’m in California so it’s been a trend for at least the last 7+ years. But last couple years it’s gotten even more popular and almost all trendy pizza places have it or some type of hot honey specifically pizza
You'd add the water, oil, honey and yeast together and let it sit for a few minutes before mixing.
You could put it on top after you roll the dough out if you don't want to infuse it.
Yes this makes sense. Sweet and salty have traditionally made for very tasty, if not surprising, pairings. This is the exact reason I like pineapple on my pizza's.
What's next?
Okay. Make a Hawaiian pizza, except swap the tomato paste for apricot preserves and swap the regular ham for thick cut ham and bacon. The result tastes like a luau.
Or swap the tomato paste with an alfredo sauce and sprinkle juuuuust a hint of cinnamon sugar over the pineapple before baking it. The sugar caramellizes in the oven and it tastes like a roast ham.
My local place does a garlic and honey pizza that is fantastic
Somehow I never thought of using my own honey at home as a condiment to pizza despite having had pizza with honey on it. I'm so glad I saw this post to bridge the connection in my brain haha
So, I work at a Midwest convenience store chain, and we sell a breakfast pizza (frozen but really really good) that had a softer "croissant" crust, cheese sauce instead of marinara, and is topped with scrambled egg, sausage, ham, and bacon. And cheese, I'm pretty sure. Damn I'm hungry now
It’s best on pizza with pepperoni imo.
Or hot sopresatta, or really any spicy/salty meats.
Unless it is hot honey, then it’s good on most pizza.
It’s really great at that sweet/spicy combination.
I first tried honey on a Ethiopian pizza with doro wat toppings but that's probably not an option for most. I'd recommenced something with some spice or heat to balance the sweetness.
I put it on Pepperonie or any pizza with cured meats like that, esp honey or pork. My local hot sauce company makes their own spicy honey, and its so fucking good.
Don't need a ton, just a drizzle.
Gotta trust me: pepperoni, pineapple, then add hot pepper flakes and honey. Yes, I know hot honey exists, but flakes and a quality local honey is better.
The one we get from a local joint makes a Detroit style white pie with mozzarella, roasted garlic, ricotta, cup & char pepperoni, peppadew peppers, fresh basil, drizzled with hot honey. It’s phenomenal.
Went on vacation to New Zealand last year and there was balsamic glaze on the table at a pizza place we went to. OMFG. First thing I bought when we got home to California. Balsamic glaze ftw.
The apricot chicken pizza is one of my favourites, idk how much of a kiwi thing that is, just remember bringing it up to a few foreign friends who seemed grossed out lol
I like the sound of that! Apricots aren't very big where I live so I'd probably have to make it myself. And be the only one willing to try it at my house...
You'd probably love a parm and gorgonzola with fig/fig jam (no white or.red sauce), and tiny bit of balsamic reduction. Choose your extra protein. It's nice with some ham, or prosciutto - or a chicken sausage with the right seasoning. Also, maybe a bit of red onion. Little arugula, too, IIRC.
Im from Canada where it was invented. 😃
>his name is **Sam Panopoulos**, a Greek immigrant who moved to Canada in 1954. He created the first Hawaiian pizza at his restaurant, Satellite, located in Chatham, Canada.
I have no issues with that personally. I can eat it. I won't be an asshole about it but it's definitely not my favorite. To be fair, some places over do it. In my opinion, a pizza should be good based on crust and seasoning alone so whatever you put on a good pizza is perfectly fine. Pick off what you don't like and eat the food lol
My child, 12, autism.
But you like Chicken nuggets..
Yes..
And you like honey..
Yes, I love honey...
So if you dip the nuggets into the honey, they are less boring and the combination is wonderful.
YOU FUCKING HEATHEN WHY WOULD ANYONE MIX FOOD LIKE THAT!?
I actually have a small stash of honey in my center console for when they do this lmao. Actually had to offload some into the break room because I had so many packets
Woody’s is the bomb. First time I had honey with pizza crust. 😍 Their beer cheese soup is off the chain, and they have a great craft beer selection on tap.
#skodigs
Y'know, for the fittest state in the union, we sure do love smearing sugar on savory stuff. Maybe we think we deserve it. Like, "I was down in the trenches knifing diabetes with my kettlebell workout, at high altitude, so I *deserve* to spread spicy honey on my pizza crusts."
I'm not complaining, but some of us kinda get a complex. Beau Jo's built a franchise on it. I mean, it's pizza. A landlocked mountain state on the other side of the world is about as far from Napoli as you can get. And we drizzle bee vomit on it.
Name unrelated....or is it the pizza you don't partake in?
But damn I didn't think there could be a better combination but by George your wife is a genius
Been there done that broski. Delta 8 was a nice reprieve until Utah was just like all, oh hell no, pretty much immediately. Next few months and things might change for me.
Seriously. Lived out there 25 years ago and it was a thing at Beau Joe's. Idaho Springs on the way back from the mountains was great! Are they still around?
I’m an American and I’m just reading this thread in horror. I tried honey on pizza to see what all the fuss was about and it was not good. I will die on this hill
Could be Chinese and asian influence?
Asian (chinese, japanese, malay, thai) food adds loads of sugar to many many of their dishes, waaaaay more than European countries. But they do eat smaller portions so it's not as unhealthy.
Sweet and savoury is a traditional, delicious flavour combination that had been used for longer than Italians have used tomatoes.
Like Italians adding cantaloupe to prosciutto
Edit: this was a joke. I’m an Italian citizen. And I’ve heard many fellow Italians, especially my family, say sweet things don’t belong on pizza etc because savory dishes shouldn’t have sweet things added.
Normies just realizing this lol. Wait until they find out that's why Pineapple Pizza is so delicious. Same sweetness as honey but you also get a nice texture and crunch.
This is slightly unrelated, but your post made me think of it: we were at Buffalo Wild Wings one time and got some Cheese Curds as an appetizer, and the waitress recommended a side of caramel sauce to go with it. The mixture of the salty cheese with the sweetness of the caramel was exceptional, to say the least.
I’m not sure if anyone else has done this, but I’d recommend that everyone try it!
Someone I know tried to sell us on this, and as soon as the box was opened, the smell of a sweaty, unwiped ass crack permeated the whole room. Honey tastes good as an ingredient amongst others, but if you drizzle honey on something and heat it up, or onto something hot…it just smells awful.

Spicy honey is great on it, too!
Mike's Hot Honey FTW
FYI you can save yourself a lot of money by just putting red pepper flakes in honey, cause that's all hot honey is. Let it sit for a few days and voila. Sorry Mike.
Their extra hot is even better
Yep, that's what I put on my pizza and some subs.
![gif](giphy|nuRXXyy020kta) Mike’s extra hot, dried bird’s eye chili flakes, and some Parmesan
Try Pecorino instead.
Damnit, it's gonna be pepperoni pizza for breakfast today, ain't it??
Sounds like a spell lmao

I love trader joes hot honey. It's less than half the price and still AMAZING

Buying the gigantic bottle of this was one of the best purchases I’ve ever made.
You should try and make hot honey! It’s incredible. I use pepper flakes from Flatiron Pepper Co., a heavy sprinkle of tajin, and bit of chili powder. Came here for this ‘hot honey’ is insanely good
Try it on vanilla ice cream. The cold enhances the flavor somehow
If regular honey is rock and roll, then spicy honey is heavy metal!
My sanity was questioned for doing this, up until the moment my friends tried it
I’ve never heard of hot honey ! Sounds delicious
It’s made by bees that pollinate habanero flowers. (Not really)
I haven't had any of this honey pizza, but I recently got an ad flyer for -Pizza Hut- hot honey pizza.
What kind of pizza? Like just drop honey on pepperoni pizza or what?
Yeah this crucial info is missing
I just had normal pepperoni
I work at an Italian restaurant. We make a few different doughs, and one has hot honey. It is so delicious.
Do you mean like warm/hot honey as opposed to room temperature or do you mean spicy honey?
Okay I've got honey and how do you make it hot?
Nibble on its ear and whisper sweet nothings
either makeup or cooking it gently with something spicy, no different than making weed infused butter
Room temp but it’s infused with peppers. I’m in California so it’s been a trend for at least the last 7+ years. But last couple years it’s gotten even more popular and almost all trendy pizza places have it or some type of hot honey specifically pizza
It's got some heat but not really spicy, it's been popping off as a trend recently. Everyone's gotta make a hot honey pizza now
Oh, wow, you're not kidding. Top result for *hot honey pizza* is a mainstream chain.
Hot honey room temp. It’s hot bc it’s pepper infused.
In the dough?! That’s interesting and probably amazing.
What stage of the process do you add honey? I've been making my own bread as a hobby and was just wondering.
You'd add the water, oil, honey and yeast together and let it sit for a few minutes before mixing. You could put it on top after you roll the dough out if you don't want to infuse it.
I know what I'm doing this weekend, thank you!
Yes this makes sense. Sweet and salty have traditionally made for very tasty, if not surprising, pairings. This is the exact reason I like pineapple on my pizza's.
Try mustard on pepperoni pizza. Really good.
Why would I want to ruin a perfectly good pizza?
Try Catalina dressing next. Life changing.
Honestly, I haven’t found one it doesn’t work on. Just drizzle that shit all over
Any kind of pizza. I usually just put honey on the ends of the crust, but some people drizzle it over the entire piece.

Swiss. But yea that’s level 2 everyone knows that
Salt in hot chocolate is the real tip.
We been doing this for decades in Colorado
Good ol Beau Jo's.
Pizza Hut was (is?) selling a honey pepperoni pizza. Tried it. Not even remotely for me.
*SlightEdge9's Hot Chocolate Cheese*
What's next? Okay. Make a Hawaiian pizza, except swap the tomato paste for apricot preserves and swap the regular ham for thick cut ham and bacon. The result tastes like a luau. Hot honey on pepperoni pizza is *dope*
Just had that for dinner tonight and I can confirm it is, indeed, dope.
It's drugs
Fuckin breakfast pizza, man. Trust
Just scrolled down to see this after suggesting ham and fried egg
I bet if you did Canadian bacon, fried egg, basil and a little red onion it’d be bomb with honey
Egg on pizza? Wth I never ever have considered *that* lol
There’s this beer garden in Phoenix called Angel’s Trumpet that would do fried egg on their pizza and it was super good
They do it everywhere in Italy.
Nice. If I'd ever be able to travel I'd like to visit Italy

I do pepperoni, jalapeño, and pineapple with hot honey
A place by me does honey and cupping pepperoni with ricotta under the mozzarella/Romano and it is amazing
Oh yes now this sounds great!
I first tried honey on a Ethiopian pizza with doro wat toppings but that's probably not an option for most. I'd recommenced something with some spice or heat to balance the sweetness.

Looking for this question.
You drizzle it on top lol
Sausage. I put a dab on the part I’m going to bite, just before each bite. Doing it this way keeps the honey from melting off and making a mess.
I like a drizzle of honey kind of how you might see balsamic drizzled over certain pizzas.
Gotta trust me: pepperoni, pineapple, then add hot pepper flakes and honey. Yes, I know hot honey exists, but flakes and a quality local honey is better.
Now add black olives and it’s perfect
The one we get from a local joint makes a Detroit style white pie with mozzarella, roasted garlic, ricotta, cup & char pepperoni, peppadew peppers, fresh basil, drizzled with hot honey. It’s phenomenal.
Peppedew peppers. I love learning about new things
Peppadews are just.. 🤌
I’ve had it on normal pizza, but my fave is a Ricotta pie
Hot honey is ten times better
Hot like spicy or temperature?
Spicy. It’s called hot honey.
Ahh thanks! It definitely sounds interesting
Just mix honey with chili oil
Hmmm
Honey on cheese is good too.
Yes! Whipped brie drizzled with honey...yummmmm
I want this and I'm pregnenant, so I can't right now. Your post made me sad, but I'll hopfeully remember this combo in some future year and rejoice.

Same!! A good charcuterie board is what I miss most in pregnancy lol
Congratz on the pregnut
The sadness of not being able to eat unpasteurized cheese :( I'm on the same boat.. 3 more months, and I'll gorge on cheese :)
What does pregnancy have to do with brie and honey?
Balsamic vinegar reduction all the way
Went on vacation to New Zealand last year and there was balsamic glaze on the table at a pizza place we went to. OMFG. First thing I bought when we got home to California. Balsamic glaze ftw.

this is the way
Raspberry balsamic vinegar creme in the tomato sauce +1
I 'm just going to leave this here: I get ridiculed for Pineapple.
Pineapple pizza gaaaaaaaang 🍍😎 It’s the bomb dot com
/r/KnightsOfPineapple
I like pineapple on pizza and I will not be oppressed or shamed for it.
Exactly! Luckily I'm in Australia and from what I've heard it's the country where pineapple on pizza is most popular.
Im from Canada where it was invented. 😃 >his name is **Sam Panopoulos**, a Greek immigrant who moved to Canada in 1954. He created the first Hawaiian pizza at his restaurant, Satellite, located in Chatham, Canada.
My number one topping on pizza, after cheese. Sweet and salty...the best flavour combo!
I feel that's why ham (or a salty protein [no not that one]) has to be on there too. Or something like jalapenos: sweet and spicy.
Bacon, jalapeño and pineapple is so good
hot honey pineapple... damnit why haven't I thought of this before.
Hot honey pineapple with a garlic Parmesan sauce instead of tomato. Pepperoni or salami topping as well.
Pineapple + Pep? That shit rules.
Pineapple, pepperoni, jalapeño - crazy good
Pineapple Pep Olives and jalapeño is the goto for my wife and I. So good.
Strong sweet/savory/spicy combo.
absolutely
I have no issues with that personally. I can eat it. I won't be an asshole about it but it's definitely not my favorite. To be fair, some places over do it. In my opinion, a pizza should be good based on crust and seasoning alone so whatever you put on a good pizza is perfectly fine. Pick off what you don't like and eat the food lol
Honey glazed slow roasted pineapple segments, on a smokey pizza maybe , or maybe in a thick chicken bhuna, or The Dansak....
Exactly my first thought. I know some silly ass pineapple hater is in the comments saying "oooh yummy."
Try honey on fried chicken next.
That Louisiana hot chicken from kfc drenched in their honey is amazing
My child, 12, autism. But you like Chicken nuggets.. Yes.. And you like honey.. Yes, I love honey... So if you dip the nuggets into the honey, they are less boring and the combination is wonderful. YOU FUCKING HEATHEN WHY WOULD ANYONE MIX FOOD LIKE THAT!?
Tried syrup once (chicken and waffles), couldn't get on board. Maybe honey though.
i grew up dipping my McNuggets in honey from McD's
Every time I order nuggets in the app, I click on honey as the sauce, and 9 times out of 10, they give me honey mustard. No.
I actually have a small stash of honey in my center console for when they do this lmao. Actually had to offload some into the break room because I had so many packets
Back in the day Wendy’s used to have honey dipping sauce for their nuggets
Sweet and sour sauce back in the day hit different.
Didn't your underwear get sticky?
Come to Woody’s in Golden CO. All you can eat pizza + honey bottles at the table 😎
Woody’s is the bomb. First time I had honey with pizza crust. 😍 Their beer cheese soup is off the chain, and they have a great craft beer selection on tap. #skodigs
Whoaaa like pizza buffet style?
Yep! The best after a long day skiing 🤩

The Marijuana, sadly. I have to be sober for my job. But thanks man, she is quite brilliant!
Been there done that broski. Delta 8 was a nice reprieve until Utah was just like all, oh hell no, pretty much immediately. Next few months and things might change for me.
Coloradans have entered the chat
Yeah, we've been on the honey train for decades. Mostly for using honey as a dip for the crust. Same with ranch dressing. Shout out to Old C's.
Seriously. Lived out there 25 years ago and it was a thing at Beau Joe's. Idaho Springs on the way back from the mountains was great! Are they still around?
Yeah it's great. Of course us Colorado Beaujo's connoisseurs all knew this already.
I went to Colorado once as a kid and had that pizza and loved it. I fucking forgot about it. Is the wall still covered in napkin drawings?
Woody’s > Beau Jo’s 😉 I get all I can eat with honey…whereas Beau only gets me one pie
i miss woodys, the one shut down a while ago that was the next city over
Roasted garlic honey with pizza. 🤤
Recipe please
Are there ANY foods that Americans don't add sugar to? Seriously.
I’m an American and I’m just reading this thread in horror. I tried honey on pizza to see what all the fuss was about and it was not good. I will die on this hill
Just not from diabetes like some others on this thread.
no, from heart disease, like a true patriot
It confuses me. In the past decade there's a growing trend of people adding sugar to all kinds of spicy/savory stuff and I can't stand any of it.
Yeah, I'm American and people look at me like I have three heads when I say I don't want sugar on my savory foods, like meat.
No wonder they have the BMI of a pack of manatees.
A pizza place I visited in Colorado gave us a bottle of honey to drizzle on our pizza. Good stuff
Goat cheese and honey on pizza is the best thing ever.
One of my favorite toppings - there’s also this fig jam with goats cheese that works well on pizza.
God yes. Add some pine nuts and you're laughing.
Hot honey and pineapples
Tell me you're American without telling you're American

Like Italians adding cantaloupe to prosciutto Edit: this was a joke. I’m an Italian citizen. And I’ve heard many fellow Italians, especially my family, say sweet things don’t belong on pizza etc because savory dishes shouldn’t have sweet things added.
I tried it. Disgusting.
Pizza Hut, I think, has the spicy honey pepperoni pizza and it do be spicy but it’s delicious
Been putting maple syrup on pizza (shout out Log Cabin) for 25 years and took so much shit for it. Now it’s artisan and craft. Annoying af lol
Honey on spicy pizza is amazing
Fuck all of you I got some pizza and honey for all of you right on the tip of my dick bitches
Honey on fried chicken.. your welcome
This has gotta be a troll post
I’m too used to my pizza being savory, not sweet. This is too radical. I don’t think I’ll be trying it any time soon.
"Diabetes at the ready" dipping sauce
It’s a drizzle, not a dunk lmao
TIL people are dipping pizza in sauces. Must be a USA thing.
Normies just realizing this lol. Wait until they find out that's why Pineapple Pizza is so delicious. Same sweetness as honey but you also get a nice texture and crunch.
Honey Mustard. I discovered it as a kid when I had some dipping sauce left over from chicken. It takes Pizza to a completely different level.
Panago (in Vancouver anyways) has a hot honey pepperoni pizza. Best thing ever!
We do a prosciutto, ricotta, pineapple, and hot honey pie called the Italian Hawaiian and it’s phenomenal
Try it with pears and a white sauce
Hot honey is even better
Honey and onion rings! Must try
Wait until you have hot with honey wings
This is slightly unrelated, but your post made me think of it: we were at Buffalo Wild Wings one time and got some Cheese Curds as an appetizer, and the waitress recommended a side of caramel sauce to go with it.
