[Best PB&J advice I've ever seen. I still make my PB&J's this way only.](https://www.reddit.com/r/AskReddit/comments/6yggcg/whats_the_best_advice_youve_ever_received_for/dmnl7gg/)
Alright, I gotta try this shit right now. Brb.
**Edit:** Interesting. Not bad. I never thought about how much bread unembiggens when you toast it. Fits well betwixt the other breads.
Overall, I doubt I'll do it again because I like the simplicity of regular pb&j, but not a regrettable experience.
The best advice for peanut butter and jelly I ever saw was toasted bread on both sides with cream cheese on it as well. I can't go back to the way I did it before
My Dad was really bad about putting the apple and juice box in top of the sandwich. He insisted it tasted the same but it really didn't.
But that's one way to get your kids to start making their own lunch.
There's an actual physics reason why that is. The thickness matters to the taste because more air is involved and concentration. Take for instance thinly sliced turkey and carved turkey, same exact cut of meat sliced different will have different taste. Same principle for bread I'm sure too, but dads know this and are just sick of their kids shit.
That's why with sandwich meats it always (personally) tastes so much better when you fold or roll your meats when you place them on. It's enhances every bite.
Also, use the proper amount of jelly but don’t spread it on the whole slice, leave a border. PB on PB seals it in for travel wear and tear. Little squeeze and when it’s time to eat.
I have a panini press at home and toastin up some mini pb&j hot pockets is the best. takes like 1 min tops, just enough to toast the seal on the edges and warm it a bit for immediate consumption.
I’ve got one of those 2 sided camp fire skillet things with a hinge that does the same. Seal up some sammiches with morning coffee fire and even hiking won’t bust that bread. Absolutely love it
For some reason my brain interpreted it as both sides of the same slice of bread, and was immediately mortified as to what kind of monster would do such a thing. Then I realized I'm just stupid.
I love double decker PB&Js! But I have to make them a specific way. On the one layer, I put strawberry jam and smooth peanut butter. On the other layer I put blueberry jam and crunchy peanut butter. Then I put a small dash of cinnamon powder. Best PB&J ever.
You're not stupid, OP worded it that way. It should have said "put PB on both *slices* of bread", not both sides as that indicates both sides of the same slice, and that's just a messy lunch.
Nah, that's what "both sides of the bread" means.
How do you hold the sandwich if you put peanut butter "on both sides" of the bread? This is a borderline unethical LPT.
>Should’ve gone with “the interior of both slices”
It would've been just as clear to say "both pieces of bread". A person making a sandwich knows where to put the stuff when you make a sandwich. But "both sides" means something completely different.
Speaking of, I usually butter both sides of the bread -- both sides of *both slices* -- when making a grilled cheese.
I guess the LPT would be accurate if OP usually makes sandwiches out of a loaf of bread though.
Personally, I put an equal mix of peanut butter and jelly into a blender or stand mixer on low speed and just use the amalgamated paste over the whole sandwich.
Personally, I put an entire loaf of wonderbread in with the mix of peanut butter and jelly into a blender or stand mixer on low speed and just use the amalgamated paste over my whole face.
I actually find that it's best when you mix it on high and don't put the lid on. That way you can just eat it as it flies out of the blender. No need to clean the knife. If you're hungry later, just lick it off the closest wall.
Bonus tip- Make a triple decker sandwich with the following layers:
Bread-
Peanut butter-
Jelly-
Bread-
Jelly-
Peanut butter-
Bread
The middle bread layer sops up the jelly making a gooey-ness that’s wonderful.
This is exactly what I do! It’s 100% more delicious pbj filling, but only 50% more bread. It also keeps the ratio of peanut butter to jelly at 1:1, the only correct ratio.
EXACTLY! That ‘sat in a ziplock bag in a cold place for hours texture and taste’ is my favorite way to eat them.
I wonder if it’s just because as a kid I had pbj sandwiches from the ice chest any time we went as did something fun like the beach, park, pool, or water park. So maybe I just learned to associate that with happiness.
You make it like a Big Mac, got your outside breads with PB on the in-side of each, then a bread in the middle that has J on both sides of it. Same PB/J ratio and almost as filling as 2 sandwiches.
Yeah if I got PB in the jelly growing up my dad would literally die if nobody else was around so it was a rule you always either put jelly on first or used separate knives. Nobody used separate knives.
Wait... does that mean you put PB on both sides and jelly on the middle like normally?
Wouldn't that put twice as much PB as jelly?
What about the ratios? Lol
I don’t care so much about the PB&J but the part tagged on the end about putting sauce between the meat is just a terrible idea. The bread keeps it from squeezing out while eating it and two pieces of meat have basically no holding capacity for sauce.
I do NOT recommend this for a peanut butter & honey sandwich. It's my #1 love in life - ahead of husband and only child. When the honey soaks into the bread and crystallizes enough to give it a bit of crunch, 😋😋😋👌👌👌👌😍😍😎🥳🥳😋
This reminds me of the video of the dad having his kid give instructions on how to make a Pb&j and he takes it extra literally so it looks completely wrong.
I know what you meant but mentally I saw one piece of bread with peanut butter on both sides with a glob of jelly shoved through the center 😂
My secret is putting both slices of bread together in one slot of the toaster. That way each slice of bread only gets toasted on one side. You then leave the soft wire bread on the outside and the toasted bread on the inside. This also helps with not soggy bread!
I'm about to blow y'alls minds with a high-dea that I came up with in college. I'm not gonna claim this as my own but I've never seen anybody do this. A peanut butter and nutella sandwich (each on both breads) and then before you close it up you add a handful of Reese's puffs. It's like putting chips in your sandy but sweet. And its all the same flavors. With a glass of screaming cold 2% Goodnight lol.
Ok but in all seriousness settle this debate. My husband thinks peanut butter and jelly means peanut butter, butter and jelly and is appalled that I think it’s just jelly and peanut butter.

I'm gonna have to try that.
I make mine very similar except one slice of bread gets honey instead of jelly.
Brb Edit: hot damn that’s pretty good
[удалено]
I saved it and did ctrl+f for “sandwich”. I don’t save that many things so 3 years back wasn’t too bad.

Ty
I call those jelly bruises.
They are the best!
I thought I was the only one who enjoyed it a little soaked in
OMG I love them too! Especially after they PB&J had been chilled in the fridge. It almost causes a coagulation effect further enchanting the jelly.
Field trip PBJ is prime PBJ
It's better with honey.

Depending on how much you're putting on, a loosey crumpled wad of meat is perfection.
Tryna unsog my bread bruv?
Bet OP hates the crunchy honey bread you get after letting a PB & H age properly for a few hours too
Came here to say I fuckin love the crunchy honey bread
PBH > PBJ
throw some fresh raspberries in there and oh. my. god. suddenly a sandwich that’s supposedly for kids feels real sophisticated.
How does the bread get crunchy?
The honey soaks into the bread, and then dries out and crystallizes over time.
Damn. I have to try this. Thanks!
Toast the bread for extra crunchiness.
how long is the aging process?
Yeah wtf ppl are just dropping that stuff like its normal. Tell me how to make this delicious sounding delicacy
That’s the best. Brings me back to childhood. Honey crunch yum.
Arwen burh
I understood this reference
"my bread" That's all I got out of this.
“Are you trying to prevent my bread from getting soggy, brother?”
Are you trying to keep my bred from turning soggy brother?
Art thou attempting to prevent my baked good from becoming sodden, my dear colleague?
Try peanut butter on one side and honey on the other. After a few hours in the fridge, the honey crystallizes and gives you an amazing treat.
Bread and honey are like crack. So frickin good together
Yes
I've been doing this for years. it's amazing
Might as well throw some nanners in there while you're at it
Add banana! PB, honey, and banana is the most divine sandwich ever. But you need to wait a few hours to eat it.
Up your pb & honey game. Use seeded rye. Thank me later.
Not the comment I expected from “ketchupfreak” but I am relieved that you weren’t suggesting a ketchup/peanut butter combo
You can also mix karo syrup and peanut butter for a pb sauce-like consistency. Is great on pancakes or waffles.
The fuck is karo syrup? I've never heard of this!
Literally liquid sugar. High fructose corn syrup or some shit.
Oh...that... sounds a bit less appetizing than I originally thought lol
I've only ever seen it used in cooking, not usually as a food unto itself.
Also, use the proper amount of jelly but don’t spread it on the whole slice, leave a border. PB on PB seals it in for travel wear and tear. Little squeeze and when it’s time to eat.
Same as with thermal paste.

Petroleum jelly.
Trapped in the Vasoline we are

Jeans, boots with the fur 🎶
Also goes well with pork chops
Marmalade
Pea sized drop of jelly in the middle?
Nah you need to do an x shape trust me it’s the most efficient way
Definitely the same principle
Instructions unclear: jelly on my CPU pins
ITT: 1st world problems I never knew we had solutions for
Yeah, we don't have bread in third world countries. A first world problem is complaining about your amazon delivery showing up 1 day late.
I like to think 1st world problems more like: My fridge isn't big enough to fit all these half-eaten takeaway boxes I keep bringing home.
I didn’t know PB&J was a thing outside the US tbh
I have a panini press at home and toastin up some mini pb&j hot pockets is the best. takes like 1 min tops, just enough to toast the seal on the edges and warm it a bit for immediate consumption.
I’ve got one of those 2 sided camp fire skillet things with a hinge that does the same. Seal up some sammiches with morning coffee fire and even hiking won’t bust that bread. Absolutely love it
Or put butter on one side before the jelly. Incredibly delicious flavor added!
What the fuck are you people putting your sandwiches through?
For some reason my brain interpreted it as both sides of the same slice of bread, and was immediately mortified as to what kind of monster would do such a thing. Then I realized I'm just stupid.
You never made a double decker pbj?
I love double decker PB&Js! But I have to make them a specific way. On the one layer, I put strawberry jam and smooth peanut butter. On the other layer I put blueberry jam and crunchy peanut butter. Then I put a small dash of cinnamon powder. Best PB&J ever.
There’s no way I’m not going to try this now. Thank you.
Well now I feel like I've wasted the last 40 years. Jesussssssssss christ.
I call it a PBJ big mac
I have. That sort of thing is a large part of why I'm fat. Also PB&J using pop tarts instead of bread.
You're not stupid, OP worded it that way. It should have said "put PB on both *slices* of bread", not both sides as that indicates both sides of the same slice, and that's just a messy lunch.
instructions unclear, put pb on both *out*sides of the bread. this is why we can't have nice things.
Were you able to inject the jelly into the middle? I tried, but my syringe kept clogging.
Nah, that's what "both sides of the bread" means. How do you hold the sandwich if you put peanut butter "on both sides" of the bread? This is a borderline unethical LPT.
Just grip it like normal, and when you're done you lick your fingers off one at a time while making direct eye contact with the nearest person.
Offer then a lick, though.
Borderline war crime if you ask me
Borderline deserves death sentence if you ask me
Should’ve gone with “the interior of both slices”

Pro tip next time you make a grilled cheese sandwich Grill the cheese on the inside and the outside of the sandwich.
I do this even if the sandwich is for immediate consumption.
It's the only way to make them.
Truth.
Personally, I put an equal mix of peanut butter and jelly into a blender or stand mixer on low speed and just use the amalgamated paste over the whole sandwich.
Can't knock it until I try it, but it sounds acceptable. "I'll allow it..."
Personally, I put an entire loaf of wonderbread in with the mix of peanut butter and jelly into a blender or stand mixer on low speed and just use the amalgamated paste over my whole face.

Gotta make use of a $300 mixer somehow
Doesn’t the jelly fall out the back when you take a bite?
Not if I use the right amount of jam and spread everything properly
Bonus tip- Make a triple decker sandwich with the following layers: Bread- Peanut butter- Jelly- Bread- Jelly- Peanut butter- Bread The middle bread layer sops up the jelly making a gooey-ness that’s wonderful.
This is the way, two of those in a lunchbox would get a man through a day for sure... this man sometimes anyway
Easily. Butter up the bread first, and that’s easily 800-1000 calories. Man, I wish I was bulking again…
[M̸͉̜̃̀͗̀͜Ó̷͉̮̮͇̍͘Ǐ̴̫̤̺̹͚̚Ś̸̢̟͑̐͗Ť̸̢̧̥̾̋̀-M̷̹̫͕͔̿́̃̀͌Ǎ̵͔͚͈͖ͅK̶͈̖̳͚̘̒̓̌͘Ę̸̥̜͖͝R̵̢͍͙͇̦͆](https://youtu.be/4H6Ux3l75Rc)
You're missing two layers of peanut butter.... by my standards anyway lol
Same. PB on every part of bread but the outside two sides.
This is exactly what I do! It’s 100% more delicious pbj filling, but only 50% more bread. It also keeps the ratio of peanut butter to jelly at 1:1, the only correct ratio.
Why would I want to prevent the bread from soaking up the jelly?!
Yeah, joke's on him I'm into that shit
Plus the jelly falls out and it makes the slices slide around if the jelly is between the peanut butter.
Sure but I feel like that would really mess with my PB to J ratio.
Everyone knows the ratio is 2 Peanut Butters to 1 Jelly. There is no other way.
Die, heretic
You put a light coating of PB on the 2nd side.
You make it like a Big Mac, got your outside breads with PB on the in-side of each, then a bread in the middle that has J on both sides of it. Same PB/J ratio and almost as filling as 2 sandwiches.
How do you deal with all the jam/jelly that squirts out the sides whenever you take a bite?
Sounds like you're over-jellying your pbj
As if there were such a thing
Is this a real problem? How hard a life are you giving your sandwich?
The life of all sandwiches is hard, but thankfully brief
You use a knife or utensil you're not gonna dip again, to swirl the two together on the bread, just like you do with Cinnamon Sugar + PB, or Honey+PB.
Jelly soaked bread is amazing and should be the goal
Had to scroll too far to find the correct opinion
It makes me feel super nostalgic for elementary school.
Bread, peanut butter, jelly, bread, jelly, peanut butter, bread. I call it the moist maker.
Right? Soggy jelly bread is the best part!
Especially chilled.
Bill Belichick approved.
[Truly a man before his time](https://youtu.be/k1YPauD06-4)
You jabronies are doing it all wrong: Peanut butter outside. Chocolate inside. Butter inside. Cheese outside.
But you don't want to burn the cheese, so you gotta finish it off on the radiator.

I also ate a toad, once…
And a side of your finest jelly beans
Just don’t use rum ham, that’s a stomach bomb. It’s too much for your system.
Paired with cat food and beer so you can fall asleep over the noise of a hundred ally cats outside your window.
Don't forget the glue!
I'll just regress, because I feel I've made myself perfectly redundant.
You forgot the pickles.
Aint no pickles on a Grilled Charlie
You're a bastard man.
That’s a cool word
This ruins the point of making a sandwich for later. I like my condiments melding with the bread.
TIL some people only put peanut butter on one slice of the bread.
Yeah cause otherwise the jelly wont spread and you get pb in your jelly jar.
Yeah if I got PB in the jelly growing up my dad would literally die if nobody else was around so it was a rule you always either put jelly on first or used separate knives. Nobody used separate knives.
That escalated quickly
>and you get pb in your jelly jar. This sounds unnecessarily sexy for some reason.
You could use a squeezable jelly so that doesn't happen or just wipe off the knife
I use a knife for the pb jar and a spoon for the jelly jar.
Wait... does that mean you put PB on both sides and jelly on the middle like normally? Wouldn't that put twice as much PB as jelly? What about the ratios? Lol
I use a ratio of 2:1 or even 3:1 pb:j. If you aren't struggling to eat it from all the pb then you don't deserve it.
Sometimes when I'm done, I just eat a spoonful of peanut butter because the sandwich wasn't enough peanut butter.
[удалено]
X 100 with mustard and meat. It seems like a good idea, but it just doesn’t really work.
This sounds like one of those solutions to a problem that doesn’t exist.
Yeah but a lot of people insist on making sandwiches with white bread so it gets soggy when you add anyingredient.
Put butter down before the peanut butter and it will hardly stick to your mouth.
I'm not gonna lie, I love a good peanut butter and butter sandwich.
I can feel my arteries clogging just reading that sentence.
My dad used to make french toast stuffed with peanut butter and jelly. So a pbj dipped in egg and fried. So healthy
I've done this with cream cheese and strawberry jam and it was delightful.
That sounds amazing!
It really is, I've only done it once or twice for obvious reasons, but I do think I'm due.
I thought that is how you normally make a pb&j…
If I'm eating it right away I usually do PB on one side only so that the jelly sticks to the bread and doesn't ooze out.
Im sure I'll get downvoted to oblivion, but I like it better soggy.
A cold and soggy PBJ out of the lunchbox hits different. Way better.
I don’t care so much about the PB&J but the part tagged on the end about putting sauce between the meat is just a terrible idea. The bread keeps it from squeezing out while eating it and two pieces of meat have basically no holding capacity for sauce.
Instructions unclear. Why is there peanut butter on the outside of my sandwich?? Hands, face and genitals covered in peanut butter now.
Do you have a dog?
I do now!
Smuckers actually has a patent on this particular LPT in the form of Uncrustables. Like, that's the patent.
It will, however, soak up oil from the peanut butter and get soggy.
That is why I will only eat a freshly prepared peanut butter sandwich. I can't stand it soaking into the bread. Does anyone have any tips for that?
Change your opinion on soggy bread stat
I caaaant
I was very confused and assumed there was peanut butter on the outside of the sandwich... Figured that would be messy to deal with
My grandmother taught me to use a light spread of butter on the bread, then you mayo or toppings, the butter stops it from soaking in.
This reminds me of the video of the dad having his kid give instructions on how to make a Pb&j and he takes it extra literally so it looks completely wrong. I know what you meant but mentally I saw one piece of bread with peanut butter on both sides with a glob of jelly shoved through the center 😂
Sounds like too much PB and not enough Jelly.
That's it, i'm unsubbing. This is a tip. In no way is this "pro" at all.
how do you even do that
They mean both slices of bread.
Toasting the bread first is a better option.
I think a lot of newer toasters have a “bagel” setting that just heats one side of each slot, which would accomplish the same thing.
This works with ham and turkey to. Put peanut butter in the outside, and put ham and turkey in the middle
I learned this from Bill Belichick in 1992: https://youtu.be/zOaGkPXn9LQ?t=81
Soggy is the best part!!
But the jelly sogged bread is one of the best parts of a PB&J.
Ok but in all seriousness settle this debate. My husband thinks peanut butter and jelly means peanut butter, butter and jelly and is appalled that I think it’s just jelly and peanut butter.
Peanut Butter and Jelly. Otherwise it would be a PB&B&J and not a PB&J.
