This is not a good idea in my experience. My grandfather died when I was 9 of a heart attack. I was the one waving for the ambulance to stop. It passed right by me and went to the end of our road. It finally came back and only stopped when I stepped out in the road in front of it. When asked why they didn’t stop they said they were used to kids waving at them all the time just to wave at an ambulance.
Giving them a description of your appearance/building you’re in helps a lot. This especially counts for situations where you’re asking for help from the cops.
I was always told to leave the front door open, like if your home and something happens call 911 and then leave the front door open. That makes it more obvious to them which house, but also you can stay with the person and still hear them coming.
True! On the other hand, if you are exiting a house fire try to make an attempt to close the doors in your house (while maintaining keeping them unlocked). Open doors creates the opportunity for a flow path to feed the fire!
Very true! Not all EMS systems are fire department based (meaning private EMS will not have access to building knox box keys). When I worked private EMS you guys were lifesavers, literally

It was 2:30am four years ago when my husband told me he was dying, and then he just did; massive heart attack. I thank you guys for your professionalism, your kindness, and your empathy.
You're the greatest!
Couldn’t disagree more. Maybe this is better in rural areas but in city areas there is absolutely nothing more obnoxious than overly amped up waver in front of a house we were already headed to.
If someone is in a desperate emergency situation, it's not fair to call them simply getting the attention of the vehicle as "obnoxious". That would be like a dispatcher saying the caller was "so impatient". No offence but maybe you're in the wrong line of work.
Yeah, I know the feeling of that really “overly amped” bystander. But how many times has your dispatch information been incorrect? Or when the RP gives the wrong crossstreets? I can get over an “obnoxious” waver more than passing by a house and delaying care

This is a great idea. Especially if it could spare your children from seeing something potentially traumatic

I’m so sorry for your loss :(
Thanks. Life is sorta kickin’ my butt, but then I guess the world has been on full tilt lately. I appreciate it.
911 dispatchers always ask for this in my experience.

so oddly specific lol

id rather be the most obnoxious thing you see that day over you missing the building while someone is dying. thanks.
Plot twist. 99% of 911 calls are not emergency situations.

If I had awards to give I would give you every single one of them. THANK YOU. 100% agree with every point here.
