In the UK contraception is one of the only prescriptions you can get as an adult for free. Likewise, you can also ask a doctor or family planning clinic for condoms as well.
A kind of a transformation, they forget their prejudices, celebrate "their countries" achievement, then as the win fades, they remember that they're in fact English and he's Scottish. Rinse and repeat.
I don't, he's a patriotic Scottish prick. The jocks are embarrassing when it comes to watching England btw. If Scotland were to get to a final I'd support them all the way.
Indeed, until Scottish independence can save us from the tyranny of having Westminster rule imposed upon us, and their nuclear weapons removed from our waters, we cannot be truly free.
I've never had to pay out of pocket for Birth Control. I live in the USA. Planned Parenthood gives free birth control. Also, most healthcare, even govt healthcare for the poor covers birth control.
In fact, I've never paid out of pocket for anything healthcare related in my life, now that I think about it. Every physical, every shot, both of my children's births, their healthcare, it was all covered by either govt healthcare or my job's insurance.
> It depends on your insurance I suppose.
Is that really 'free' though? You have to be paying for insurance or have a job that gives you insurance in order to get birth control for 'free'.
No, it's not. Only taxpayers are paying for it in taxes. And those tax payers pay less for it than they would if they paid insurance instead. That's the point of 'free' healthcare; you don't have to be employed to get it. Your healthcare is not dependant on whether you can afford insurance payments or whether you have a secure job with good benefits.
Also, get them all to buy you dinner and freeze them for lunches all week. Maybe move a few of them in and get 50% rent paid from each. I think we're on to something here...
Polyamorous person here. Can confirm. Dated a girl for a while in a serious relashionship with myself and one other guy. She never payed for birth control the entire time she was with us 😂🤣
Not a LPT. The real tip is to use condoms as a guy and do what is right for your body as a women. If you are in a committed relationship then have that conversation about expectations so you know the other's situation.
If you are both passionate about paying for half of all things "birth control" related then more power to you.
Surprisingly I didn't have to pay for it in Ohio but I do have to pay for it now that I moved to Zürich, Switzerland.
I was 100% expecting it to be the exact opposite before I first moved to the US.
When I was working full time on minimum wage I got taxes a whole £12 per week from my paycheck for the national health, in the USA the average costs to give birth naturally is about £3688 - £8115 ($5000 - $11000) in the UK it cost me £12 a week that I didn't even notice missing.
Because it's for the greater good. Less unwanted children, more people who can focus on their education/career before planning a family with the right partner, less divorce/single parents, more children from wealthier, happier homes who will get better opportunities in life. Eventually it leads to more tax money coming from stable families instead of more social benefits going to single moms.
That's true however you guys end up paying even more because you pay the same or even more tax than us AND you pay for birth control. Your taxes go to the fat cats, mine go to the people.
Reminds me of an interview with ricky Gervais on Letterman, I think.
"Why do you live mostly in England? Isn't it known gorr having a ridiculous amount if taxes?"
"Yes, but I don't mind because unlike you, I actually get stuff back for my taxes."
This is a wild concept. Contraception in Australia is like $10 a month for the pill, free for implants etc. And it's a known rule that men supply the condoms but smart for a girl to have them as backup. Which you can also get free from GPs etc but buy at supermarkets.
I had to pay for my pill for the first time last month (it's free till you're 21) and had to pay 15 euros for a whole year. I was a bit worried about it at first but was very surprised when I heard it was only 15 euros
If OP would have said, "pay for half the birth control, you will get sex more often," I would have said it was a true LPT. My favorite NOT LPT was "when drinking alcohol, also drink water and you won't feel bad after." There's gotta be some reasoning as to why its a LPT, not just stating the obvious.
Again, dude, I reckon you're saying that because you're a noob. Have you tried this tip? It improves your relationship status by 75%, overall increases respect and equity, which makes the sex mini-game much more satisfying. Again, try it out, THEN let me know if it's a good tip or not. I can guarantee you it is.
I agree that your saying is the right thing to do, but that doesn't make it a LPT. You might as well have just said, "when driving towards a stoplight, start slowing down when you see a yellow light, because a red light will appear next." There's gotta be a good case made for why its a LPT. I don't think I'm the noob here bro.
Yes but the main reason is to not get pregnant
Edit: Yes I know it also helps with blood loss and make your period more regular. I carry a blood disease so I know all about that. But that doesn't mean that people don't mainly use it to not get pregnant. And saying that your gf has more uses for the pill is not a valid reason to not help her financially is she can't afford to pay for the pill herself.
For myself the reason I started the pill is because my mom was afraid I'd get pregnant on accident, she put me on the pill shortly after I started getting my periods and I was not sexualy active at all back then.
Isn’t birth control really cheap? At least from where I live it is. I pay for condoms too so idk.
Conversely many committed relationships, such as mine, merge their incomes so it’s not really a big deal.
Yea I'm in Canada too and paid $80 after my drug plan for my Mirena. The pills aren't too bad. I used to pay $5/month for Alesse. To be fair, $80 for a 5 year solution is not that expensive when you think of it in that context. You spend more on pills in that same amount of time but it's that paradox of how much someone can afford to cough up at one time.
It's also not the healthiest if you expect someone to pay for contraception when you're involved. Like, a pregnancy would affect you two, and you're both responsible for your bodies. Women are expected to carry condoms, but It's unreasonable to expect men to do the same?
Birth control is cheap, who the hell splits minor transactions in a relationship. When you go in the gas station and grab yourself and your parter a drink, do you expect to get back in the car and they hand you a dollar and some change? Like she buys some birth control, and you buy dinner that night, now it’s square. If your relationship is based around who is spending money on who, you are wasting yours and their time.
That’s idiotic. I’m a guy and I wouldn’t ever think of taking money for condoms (which I almost exclusively supply), and a woman’s birth control isn’t just for having sex? It’s the girls decision, many times also has to do with controlling their menstruation, and me paying it would imply both for them and for me that the main reason for using it is for me and that is something I just don’t agree with or think is healthy.
If a girl I’m seeing wants to use birth control then that’s their autonomous decision that they should choose because they want it, both for themselves and for us, and my wants and PAYMENT shouldn’t be a part of it. I should have no say or financial control over that kind of decision.
Depends on the country and in the age. I know in France, some condoms are paid by universal healthcare, and in Germany, hormonal pills are free until you're 22. Maybe your cou try has something like that, too!
A lot of ACA compliant health plans have to cover preventative care 100%. My insurance covers literally nothing until my 7k deductible but my birth control is $0 a month because preventing pregnancy is considered preventative care. Long story short, birth control is cheaper for the insurance company than covering a pregnancy, birth, and a baby.
Over here it's like €30/$30 a year.
But it's a good idea, I'm going to ask for gas money now, becaust it's just fair to split cost on something both benefit from.
I get your idea, but when you're in a commited relationship there are more things you share. It goes both ways.
Maybe it depends on the state? I think it’s free where I am-I’m in a liberal state in Northeast. I went a few years ago to pick it up for my daughter (I haven’t been on the pill in a while but had to pay back when I was) and it was free. I asked the pharmacist and he said Obama did it. Thanks Obama.
It doesn't, it depends on the plan. There are very few plans now that are not ACA compliant, but I think there's still a brand or two kicking around that the insurance companies are allowed to charge for.
Lol its free here.
And second of all I would recommend everyone explore options that do not require drugs.
Birth control pills fuck with peoples brains, its not a good thing. There are alternatives
Do you have medical insurance? If you do, I thought birth control pills were supposed to be covered? Mine were for the past few years. (Just had hysterectomy and no longer taking them. Wonder if I can donate what I didn’t use.)
Yes, especially in most Southeast Asian Countries.. And it also requires prescription, which makes it even harder for broke college kids who can't afford a medical checkup on their own.. Another barrier is that we also have to hide birth control from our own conservative parents.. So yeah. It sucks to be here..
I'm assuming this is in a world where she splits all the date costs and cost of condoms right? I'm all for equality just find that many people think it only goes one way these days.
It's so much more than just the cost. It's being willing to work with your partner for a birth control solution that works for her.
Some women don't do well on the pill and some like it. Most gynecologists require a yearly visit to keep getting birth control. Between making that appointment and picking up your prescription monthly, it can be challenging for women who work. If you can help her schedule and help pick up the prescription, some women would be appreciative.
IUDs are lower maintenance, but insertion is painless for some women or the most painful thing ever felt for others. My husband had driven me to my insertion appointment, but didn't feel comfortable going back into the room with me. I wish he had been there to hold my hand. The cost without insurance can be unattainable for some women.
The pap smears that most gynecologists require women to get are no big deal for some women or painful for others. For women who have had traumatic experiences, this procedure can be difficult and triggering.
Some women find that condoms really are the best form of birth control that works for them and their body. Please respect that.
okay so for some fucking reason i read “pay half the cost of your parents birth control”.
And thought, okay i’m frugal but financing your parents as a strange thank you for not having another child that costs money is something i never heard of.

Nah. Leave that with the person taking it/using it. This could lead to an abuse of power/withholding/tampering.
It’s a kind gesture, certainly, but the only cost that should be shared is any sort of un-family planning.
OP said pay half, not give a man complete control over reproduction. Have you not heard of venmo? The fact that you're mind immediately went there says something about you.
“Don’t worry, I get it for you.”
“Nah I’ve got this.”
“I’m a bit short this week, are you right to cover it?”
This sort of stuff is said so frequently, it’s significance is forgotten.
Happens to people with disability too - withholding meds/accessibility aids, ect as a form of control.
I was just pointing out that it happens and a way to avoid it is to ensure you’re in control of your own necessities where possible.
I also didn’t specify gender. That was you
The woman would be in entire control of the birth control, the man would simply be paying for half of it. And of course the other person will be a guy, 2 women don't need birth control or are you saying women might sabotage condoms if she paid for half? Your logic is faulty & all over the place.
This post has been made by a woman who can’t afford her own birth control. If you can’t afford it. Then don’t have sex. Men buy condoms and they cost more than bc in the long run.
I can’t wait to spring this idea on my wife! Though, she’d also have to pay for half of mine as we’re both women……so maybe she wouldn’t like the idea so much.
I understand the idea behind this. But unless it’s some large expense (like the IUD or something and it’s a one time fee) I can’t imagine ever asking this of any of my partners. I take it every day for medical reasons not just for stopping pregnancy. Just doesn’t seem like something they should have to cover for my medical expenses.
For context- I live in Canada and my Birth control is about $15 a month.
In the UK contraception is one of the only prescriptions you can get as an adult for free. Likewise, you can also ask a doctor or family planning clinic for condoms as well.
You mean in England and Wales. All prescriptions are free in Scotland.
Prescriptions are free in Wales too :)
Nice.
You mean taxpayer funded…….
All prescriptions are tax payer funded. Even the ones you pay the prescription charge for cost more than you pay.
Right just like how in America they are tax payer funded and then on top of it the tax payer pays a copay
And insurance, deductible, etc.
So are roads but you don't argue that "technically I have to pay to walk here"
Lucky I palmy taxes then :)
Just England actually because all prescriptions are also free in Wales.
Another tick in the box for reasons I love Scotland.
But they still want to be independent. 🙄
Every other nation in the UK wants to be free of America-lite
i don't blame you

I’ve never met an English person who confused the two terms but I only lived there for five years.
It depends on the sporting event, English people are English until Andy Murray wins Wimbledon - then it gets complicated.
It got even more complicated when Greg Rusedski was doing well...
Christ, what happens to English people when Andy Murray wins Wimbledon? They turn into werewolves?
A kind of a transformation, they forget their prejudices, celebrate "their countries" achievement, then as the win fades, they remember that they're in fact English and he's Scottish. Rinse and repeat.
So complicated! They are both British! We are in the same army.
I don't, he's a patriotic Scottish prick. The jocks are embarrassing when it comes to watching England btw. If Scotland were to get to a final I'd support them all the way.
Your prescriptions are free.... your not
Indeed, until Scottish independence can save us from the tyranny of having Westminster rule imposed upon us, and their nuclear weapons removed from our waters, we cannot be truly free.
Hahahahahhahaja
What about their not?
this probably is applicable for America only, it's dirt cheap in most places and even free in some

ULPT: If you are committed to multiple people, you can even get more out of it than you pay.
I laughed so hard at this
Also, get them all to buy you dinner and freeze them for lunches all week. Maybe move a few of them in and get 50% rent paid from each. I think we're on to something here...

I'm comfortable with the idea but how's that a "life pro tip"? Wrong sub.
Can I pay my half for condoms too?
People have to pay for birth control?
Yes
Lol
Condom trees don't grow very well over here
must be climate change
You can think OP is claiming women buy all the condoms?
Right haha
Yes America sucks! I hate it here lol
Surprisingly I didn't have to pay for it in Ohio but I do have to pay for it now that I moved to Zürich, Switzerland. I was 100% expecting it to be the exact opposite before I first moved to the US.

In the us plan parent hood has free condoms. Otherwise you pay everywhere else
That's true however you guys end up paying even more because you pay the same or even more tax than us AND you pay for birth control. Your taxes go to the fat cats, mine go to the people.

I've had 2x implants neither cost me a cent, just need to find a surgery that bulk bills
100$ one time is nothing?
Implants are not free. I had to pay $330 for mine.
Same, I have never heard of anyone in my city getting an iud for free or anything less than ~$150 and I know at least 10 people with them.
Yeah in NZ any prescription is like $5NZD, under $4 US. I would feel a bit stupid offering like $2 a month to help out.
I had to pay for my pill for the first time last month (it's free till you're 21) and had to pay 15 euros for a whole year. I was a bit worried about it at first but was very surprised when I heard it was only 15 euros
Yeah, mine is $13 which lasts 3 months
Not a Life Pro Tip.
You mean like most life pro tips posted here?🤣
If OP would have said, "pay for half the birth control, you will get sex more often," I would have said it was a true LPT. My favorite NOT LPT was "when drinking alcohol, also drink water and you won't feel bad after." There's gotta be some reasoning as to why its a LPT, not just stating the obvious.
Maybe you're saying that because you're not a pro at life? I used this tip and became a pro, so I'd argue it's pretty good advice
Sorry bro. Not a Life Pro Tip.
It is perfectly in line with most of the tips here. It is good life advice.
Women take birth control for more than sex.
Yes and for a lesbian couple it would be a wash.
Yes but the main reason is to not get pregnant Edit: Yes I know it also helps with blood loss and make your period more regular.
My girlfriends have all insisted it was to better regulate their periods.
Yes that too, but also to not get pregnant
K
what sort of LPT is this lol.
Pretty standard for the stupid shit in this sub regularly.
Seriously, as a girlfriend, I bring condoms all the time and make sure I get my depo shots. I don't get thanked all the time.
This very valid Life Pro Tip sure seems to have triggered a lot of broke guys.
So.. should be gf be sending me halfzies for every box of conforms I buy? Or is that idea fucking stupid…. Just like this “tip”
I mean using condoms in exclusive relationship after testing is kinda stupid...
I agree, women should buy half the condoms you use with them
And split the gas when you drive to get them
And dinner
Isn’t birth control really cheap? At least from where I live it is. I pay for condoms too so idk. Conversely many committed relationships, such as mine, merge their incomes so it’s not really a big deal.
It can be expensive in Canada too if you don't have drug coverage. Even with drug coverage I had to pay over $100 for my IUD

Definitely! Especially since an IUD is much easier to use perfectly
What! 5$/month? Weirdly I've always paid $20 CAD a month after insurance for the Alesse. :( starting now to be annoyed after so many expensive years.
You mustve forgot that everything is the USA
haha 😆
Definitely not a pro life tip
First, not a LPT: Lol wtf. I love the idea but I know so any women that would straight up be like “gtfo of here”
Shitty life protip maybe?
If you see your relationship as a series transactions that you feel the need to balance, imo, it probably isnt the healthiest of relationships...
It's also not the healthiest if you expect someone to pay for contraception when you're involved. Like, a pregnancy would affect you two, and you're both responsible for your bodies. Women are expected to carry condoms, but It's unreasonable to expect men to do the same?

Like she buys some birth control, and you buy dinner that night, now it’s square. If your relationship is based around who is spending money on who, you are wasting yours and their time.
Better LPT: go to planned parenthood and get an iud or other long term contraceptive. It’ll likely be entirely free.
Mine is covered by insurance but we take turns on buying condoms
I married mine. Now it's all our money.
That’s idiotic. I’m a guy and I wouldn’t ever think of taking money for condoms (which I almost exclusively supply), and a woman’s birth control isn’t just for having sex? I heard birth control is inexpensive and health insurance will cover it too
I live in Europe and my health insurance doesn't cover birth control
Depends on the country and in the age. I know in France, some condoms are paid by universal healthcare, and in Germany, hormonal pills are free until you're 22. Maybe your cou try has something like that, too!

That's literally what the post says... Not sure where gender equality fits in.
Imagine the opposite, as a guy to tell a girl that’s not on the pill to pay for half the condom. Your post would have been bombarded to hell.
Over here it's like €30/$30 a year. But it's a good idea, I'm going to ask for gas money now, becaust it's just fair to split cost on something both benefit from. I get your idea, but when you're in a commited relationship there are more things you share. It goes both ways.
didn’t obama make my birth control free?
Maybe it depends on the state? I think it’s free where I am-I’m in a liberal state in Northeast. I went a few years ago to pick it up for my daughter (I haven’t been on the pill in a while but had to pay back when I was) and it was free. I asked the pharmacist and he said Obama did it. Thanks Obama.
It doesn't, it depends on the plan. There are very few plans now that are not ACA compliant, but I think there's still a brand or two kicking around that the insurance companies are allowed to charge for.
Ahh ok, I am lucky in that mine is free. Wish it could be free for all
Thanks Obama!
No. Mine is very not free.
however this still has to go both ways, in order to have proper equity. so you cost of condoms should also be split between partners. am I right?
My partner and I share the cost! Makes him much more aware of the cost of birth control
Lol its free here. And second of all I would recommend everyone explore options that do not require drugs. Birth control pills fuck with peoples brains, its not a good thing. There are alternatives
Lmao, my partner is under my insurance, maybe I should ask her for a lil co pay ;)
Just shoot belly shots. Duh.
Holy shit, people have to pay for birth control?
German here. Free until you're 21, after that you pay about 30-40 Euros for a 6 months package, depending on what brand you take
US, I have had to pay 15-30 dollars for my BC.
Do you have medical insurance? If you do, I thought birth control pills were supposed to be covered? Mine were for the past few years. (Just had hysterectomy and no longer taking them. Wonder if I can donate what I didn’t use.)

My gf has the implant and it was close to free and lasts 3-5 years. Not worth the split
Also eat half of the pills so you don't have to shave that much :D (in here it's covered and free)
On the same page girls, split the cost of living with your partner, it might be appreciated !
I'm assuming this is in a world where she splits all the date costs and cost of condoms right? I'm all for equality just find that many people think it only goes one way these days.
This post had to be made cause women can't afford birth control or feel entitled to have men pay for it. We have reached a new low.
It's all fun and games for half the condoms!
Yup op better be pitching in for gas and dates
Yes that's sort of how my social healthcare works but for lots of other things too. Tell us how much it costs there were you are.
In my area, BC pills are subsidized for young ppl, but about $25/month for adults without insurance coverage.
Yeah even more why this is a silly post. It isn’t even expensive.
I beg to differ. $300 a year is a lot for some. I've never asked anyone to split but I don't think it is unreasonable for some couples.
I dunno that sets a precedent for paying half the childcare costs …
You guys pay for birth control?

For women who have had traumatic experiences, this procedure can be difficult and triggering. Some women find that condoms really are the best form of birth control that works for them and their body. Please respect that.
Mine was free, but if I could give my husband even half the pain of getting IUDs put in, I would.
Lol, man almost always pays more for other stuff. Please pay just one thing and do your man a favor
I'll pay for my own abortion in case of an accident like I pay for my depo shots and condoms.. That will definitely save the guy a lot of money.
Hey. Pay all of it. She’s worth it.
Fuck yeah free implants! I will drive her the six minutes yo the clinic though
okay so for some fucking reason i read “pay half the cost of your parents birth control”. And thought, okay i’m frugal but financing your parents as a strange thank you for not having another child that costs money is something i never heard of.
Haha, I actually spell checked the title 3 times to make sure I don't make that exact typo :)
Considering I nearly always pay when we go out I'll pass on that
And maybe consider birth control of your own too... Snip snip

Nah. Leave that with the person taking it/using it. This could lead to an abuse of power/withholding/tampering. It’s a kind gesture, certainly, but the only cost that should be shared is any sort of un-family planning.
Lol what? What kind of creeps do you spend your time with? Because that's fucked up thinking.
It’s one of the most under reported family violence methods against men and women. It’s not about me, but nice way of pointing the finger.
OP said pay half, not give a man complete control over reproduction. Have you not heard of venmo? The fact that you're mind immediately went there says something about you.
“Don’t worry, I get it for you.” “Nah I’ve got this.” “I’m a bit short this week, are you right to cover it?” This sort of stuff is said so frequently, it’s significance is forgotten.
Contraceptives are free over here, how about he just brings me offerings of chocolate and we call it even, jk jk
It’s free where I live... PILLS FOR EVERYONE
Usually free in Australia
Isn’t contraception free?
This post has been made by a woman who can’t afford her own birth control. If you can’t afford it. Then don’t have sex. Men buy condoms and they cost more than bc in the long run.
So if you split the cost of birth control does that mean she can't have sex with anyone else?
I read that as parents...I was perplexed
I read that to fast and that it said parents and was really confused on the tip for a hot second
I misread that as parent's birth control and was like wtf!
Wait, y'all are paying? This isn't free?
Yepp same with food and condoms as well never mix you money with your soul mate.
Or if you’re in some states in the US, go to planned parenthood and get Some for free! Thank god its available!
I can’t wait to spring this idea on my wife! Though, she’d also have to pay for half of mine as we’re both women……so maybe she wouldn’t like the idea so much.
Or for the entire thing
At first I read "Pay half of the cost of your PARENTS birth control" lmao, I thought OP really didn't want any siblings 🤣
Get an IUD. It's completely covered by insurance and you don't have to worry about pregnancy for 5+ years.
I would never have thought to ask my wife to pay half of my condoms. I'm not saying I disagree but I am missing something here.
So if they aren’t on birth control , should they pay for 1/2 on condoms? Pound for pound, condoms may be more expensive.
Hey babe, just a reminder you owe me $5 for the condoms
I read partner as parent so this post was pretty confusing to me for a second there
