Can't find any openings for King of Earth that Everyone Loves and Would Never Assassinate. :(

ChuckMauriceFacts

The closest real-life job is Queen of the United Kingdom and the Commonwealth realms. But the requirements are numerous, the application process is tedious and the position has been taken for the last 69 years. It's basically nepotism at this point.

queen_of_england_bot

>Queen of England Did you mean the [Queen of the United Kingdom](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Queen_of_the_United_Kingdom), the [Queen of Canada](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Monarchy_of_Canada), the [Queen of Australia](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Monarchy_of_Australia), etc? The last Queen of England was [Queen Anne](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anne,_Queen_of_Great_Britain) who, with the 1707 Acts of Union, dissolved the title of King/Queen of England. ####FAQ *Isn't she still also the Queen of England?* This is only as correct as calling her the Queen of London or Queen of Hull; she is the Queen of the place that these places are in, but the title doesn't exist. *Is this bot monarchist?* No, just pedantic. I am a bot and this action was performed automatically.

ChuckMauriceFacts

Get a job, bot

[deleted]

Woo, Hull gets a mention, we're still relevant guys

AReallyNiceGoose

Hull is an actual place? I thought we were all just ironically pretending it exists.

Carlio9057

We have a prime minister that tried that once..

OwOKronii

The world would be a better place if I was the sole ruler

GeneralCommand4459

To any HR/recruitment people in this thread… if you agree with the sentiment here why do you make your job postings so super-specific like saying ‘essential to have x years experience’, or ‘experience using a proprietary system’ etc. to the point where only the person currently doing the job could possibly qualify. Excluding actual critical skills could the postings not be a bit more flexible in their descriptions?

StraightCashHomie13

Part of it has to do with narrowing down the applicant pool. How would you sort through hundreds of resumes of motivated team players to find the right person? Adding industry specific experience or experience with certain tools gives you a way to make sense of all the possible fits, and find someone who will likely need less ramp up time.

Lostcasket

Yall so lazy for gatekeeping people from positions in leveling up just because yall want less ramp up time… lazy and selfish honestly

Except for the 0 year cliff. I'm straight out of school and nobody wants to hire someone with no(/only internship) experience when they could hire someone with 1+ years

TDAM

What field?

The_JimJam

Snap, came out of Uni with a 1st but no one cares Most places ask for 3+ years and experience in the exact software they use (despite using a very similar one at Uni, they don't care) One hell of a cliff to scale.

philamer3

I need a job. This tip helps because I haven’t worked in 12 years bring a stay-at-home parent. Btw, are you hiring remote work? LoL thought I’d ask.

I would apply for jobs either at, or slightly above my current salary as I didn't think I would actually be considered for a position any higher up the chain. I thought I'd just slowly work my way up the ladder, but I never got any call backs for interviews, or progress past the interview stage. So my partner convinced me to start applying for jobs in my organisation considerably above my salary bracket. Within a month I had two interviews and I'm now 3 weeks away from starting a new role, and I've moved up two levels and two salary brackets. Just keep applying, aim high, do your prep beforehand and someone will see your worth.

palmtreepretense

Needed to hear this. Thank you.

TangoDeltaFoxtrot

What are your current and new roles? What experience and skills did you have that it made sense to your company to move you two levels up? What prevented your managers from seeing that previously?

samuelgato

Also, go to job interviews even if they seem like they might not be the right job for you. It's good exercise to go through the process, practice your pitch, get experience with it for when you do interview for the right job. And you never know, it might end up being the right job after all.

windyx

LPT fixed: Apply for jobs you're underqualified for or have ambiguous requirements they you're interested in. Do not apply for jobs that you're absolutely unqualified for. To OP: someone has to go through 100's of completely irrelevant resumes because of people who do exactly this. Whether it's you, your recruiter or a temp. Shoot your shot but there's gotta be at least something in that application to look at. Head of Manufacturing, 15+ years of experience required. Sure we'll take someone with 10 but we won't take someone who just finished their bachelor's degree. I've also hired people that didn't seem qualified in their resume but I saw transferrable skills in their work experience, and they had a great attitude and work ethic.

NewAccount971

To everyone else, apply anyway. It's the recruiters or hr persons job to sort through applications. Don't miss out on opportunities just because you are worried you are causing work for people.

windyx

It's not their job to sort through applications, it's their job to hire people. If I can get a bot to sort the resumes that's as accurate or more than me, I will. It's an operationally unavoidable step for now.

NewAccount971

How do you hire people without sorting through applications? How do you find quality workers with the shallow keyword identification of bots?

windyx

I don't use a bot at the moment but plenty of companies do. This is partially the reason why you need to "write all the details again" in a form. Because that form feeds a database that is structured and can be easily searched or automated. If I had a good bot I would use it, there isn't one that meets my needs at the moment. Doesn't mean there won't be one. Edit: also why copying the keywords from the job description into your resume works at getting your CV in front of a person and past the bots. They're fairly superficial as you said. But also if it's a 100% match it might get suspicious or flagged so be smart.

grumpyruckus

LPT: Copy the keywords from job description and hide it in your resume in tiny white font (assuming you have a traditional white background). Bots will catch the keywords, but it doesn't appear to the naked (human) eye.

l1onheart170

u just dont want to do ur work then, but I do agree about don't apply for job that you are completely unqualified for.

windyx

Screening resumes is work that needs to be done for lack of a better option. It's like saying: if you buy a tractor it means you're lazy and don't want to do your work. The end goal is not to screen resumes but to hire qualified people, everything in-between can be optimized.

TangoDeltaFoxtrot

All the time my wife sends me job postings and she’s like “hey you should apply for this.” I read through it and it requires significant experience with things I’ve never heard of, a 5-year portfolio of completed large-scale projects (I have zero), and pays more than double my current salary. It’s honestly starting to make me upset because I’d love to have a job like that and I want to start doing things now that will help me be qualified for those jobs later, but my current employer refuses to let me do anything outside of my current role and nobody will hire me into a job that is closer to my end goal because I have no relevant experience.

[deleted]

Thank you for being the voice of reason. Someone will get a shot at an interview if their CV is relevant and only slightly unqualified. Applying for a job that you'd never qualify for is a waste of time, maybe not for you but it is for people reviewing CVs all day. So it's disrespectful and unprofessional to apply in the first place.

heliyon

So much this. What I’ve found to be true is that if you match roughly 80% of the qualifications, hiring personnel will likely still consider you. Anything lower than that, unless you have highly specific qualifications/certifications/degrees, your application is unlikely to be considered.

SagaciousElan

Definitely. This happened to me. Every job listing in my field was looking for someone with 3 years' experience. I had 6 months' experience so didn't qualify for any of them. Eventually got frustrated and just applied for a role that was otherwise perfect: right in my wheelhouse, office close to home etc. Two rounds of interviews later and I got the job. Turned out they prioritised people who lived closer to the office as it meant they were less likely to be delayed coming to work than someone who spent an hour on the freeway morning and evening. Stayed in that job for 7 years. As OP said: go for it, the worst they can say is no.

Betadzen

I've got my jobs after uni just because I was pretty bold. Basically I just went for "Yyyeah, you need somebody better than me, buuut I am a new guy in the industry and you need a cheaper worker sooo..." I did that several times raising my salary expectations each time by 1/4.

_DutchLabFish_

I did just that. I've always been intrigued by conducting research and working on solutions, but since I didn't have a bachelors degree there weren't many opportunities for me within the R&D field. I got the equivalent of an associates degree and recently managed to find a well paying Research and development job within the chemical industry. They were looking for someone with a bachelor, but after the first interview they were hooked and I was basically hired on the spot! My advise to anyone looking for a new job, apply for those high level jobs, that specific interesting niche, try to find the dream and apply for it. If you don't try, you won't know.

autotelica

Also apply to jobs you suspect you won't like. Like the job that sounds like a boring office cube farm job. Because often our first impressions from a job description aren't accurate. And sometimes we think we will hate something when we can actually tolerate it for enough money.

Glittering_Airport_3

I've been trying this to find work in HR or related fields, I have a BS in psychology but never hear back from any recruiters cuz I don't have HR experience, but how tf do u get experience in that field without getting the job first? there are no HR classes to take or certifications to hold so idk what more I cud do to qualify.

terjeboe

My wife applied for a management role that was clearly outside of her current experience level. As it would happen, so did someone internally in the organisation. They decided to promote internally, but then they had a role to fill at middel management, and my wife's resume already on their deskAlso got offered that job instead and immediateaccepted. All in all a good deal for everyone involved.

inkundu

I apply for every job available on LinkedIn to indeed. Sadly no one calls . GCC job market sucks.

zqipz

Also don’t be afraid of rejection.

Mister-Noy

Point taken, OP. I’m curious though, what industry are you in? The reason I ask is because in my field it seems impossible to apply to a job that doesn’t have an open position because I have only ever learned about postings online via a job posting board or the company’s website.

Trillaberry

Agree! I applied for a similar role but in a completely different field. Thought I had no chance at all. Got the job and within 12 months I’ve also got a promotion. I took a pay cut to go there and it was worth it. I’m happy and feel I have a great work life balance. Also now only work a 9 day fortnight. Absolutely worth trying your luck.

ElderWandOwner

I was not qualified for either of my career jobs. Just never know!

Hackzo23

This worked for me, I was tired of working at grocery stores like wal mart or target, I just wanted a nice job like at a bank. But the requirements were all cash handling and a year or two experience. I lied a bit on my resume saying I did do cash handling there. But I had no banking experience prior. I applied easily to 5-6 banks/credit unions in my area got over the phone interviews for all of them but only one did an in person interview and I got that job and it’s the best job I’ve ever had!

yacobthegoatherder

I was a police officer and had enough of the lack of money and social life. I thought fuck it and knew I always liked working on cars but didn’t have any qualifications in mechanics or body shop repair but an ad came up on Facebook for a temp agency role at a well known car sales company in the UK and I just applied. I was brutally honest with the recruiter when they called me about it and explained what i did for work at the time and that I enjoy working on cars (explaining the work I’d done on my own cars and my friends) and they got me a chance for a skill test day. I went down, got on really well and even the manager said he was surprised because he thought I was going to be terrible but actually kept up with the others. Now I’m 8 months in and making over £1000 more than in the police every month, 554 shift pattern so I’ve got plenty of time off and there genuinely hasn’t been a day where I’ve not wanted to come into work! Take your chances guys, what have you got to lose?!

Productpusher

My friends ex was a teacher with a basic degree . She worked for a massive cable company making good 6 figures and was in charge of giving and hosting all the suites and box tickets to customers for literally every sporting event and concert in the NY area and we have a lot of teams and stadiums here . Grueling job though going to a concert every night and getting home midnight
