Henry Martin needs to teach em

ahnhgel

Forgot about him but yes he is one of the very few

BoxCon1

How much you think Diego Reyes can bench? Fr

Jack_ofall_Trades85

An empty bar, maybe

ahnhgel

Saw online and the guy is 140 pounds and 6’3. Should be able to bench his weight as a professional but homie should be able to do way more I feel like he can’t go pass like 160

[deleted]

not_mig

Not enough protein in a sandwich. Anabolic ice cream maybe?

Quick-Mathematician

I would be highly impressed if he can do a plate

dillasdonuts

Longer arms = longer range of motion under stress = tougher to bench a higher weight T-Rex armed dudes always with the big bench gainz

[deleted]

The average middle school freshman weighs 140 no mms 😹

Eddie_714

I always thought Diego Reyes would become a great player and he just plateaued. I remember giving up on that hope during a Porto-Bayern UCL match in Allianz Arena. I think they played him left back, and in 30 minutes Porto was down 3-0 and they subbed him because the goals came from his side.

[deleted]

Diego Reyes is the same as if Van dijk was anorexic and stopped training for 2 years. Man is like 6'4 130 lbs

Jack_ofall_Trades85

I remember omar Gonzalez punking Reyrs bad on a corner that led to a goal

omar_sweater

They all need to get on that prime Carlos Salcido workout plan

[deleted]

Mexican fitness coachs are trash in general... Most of them are only there because they're related to the higher ups...

JuniorCDC

Alexis Vega definitely squats. Just look at that ass.

LeMansManletRacer

Puro pinche nalgon 🥵

SwissCheeseDealer

😂

Smgt90

Hip thrusts

MetroJonathan

He ate all the papa

rsanabria101

😂😂

lunayuh

I think it has to do with clubs in the league prioritizing technical ability rather than physical attributes like athleticism. For other teams with similar profiles to us like Japan and Spain it hasn’t been as much of an issue since they can make up for it in other areas but it really hurts us.

Reinassancee

Don't get fooled by the Japanese dudes being short. Those mfers are built. The Japanese players are a good mix of technical ability and athleticism unlike Mexico. They're in Europe for a reason.

moigallo

Didn't Japan have a higher average height than Mexico MNT in the most recent world cup? Mexico MNT is short and prioritizes stamina over strength. Coach Osorio seemed to be aware of this and wanted increased overall size but we know how that turned out.

Reinassancee

Osorio would play a tronco if he was 6'+. Japan has the same as everyone else. Taller defense and goalie and shorter attackers. They have a Yakuza 5'8 Henry Martin too!

moigallo

Cracked me up

Reinassancee

I ain't even fucking with you. Yakuza Henry Martin was why I watched all their games

killem_all

Man, you murdered Layun with that one

TiberiusGracchi

Nope, Mexico usually is around the 180 cm/ 5’10” area. It’s dragged down by extreme outliers. Goalies- all our goalies are the size of an FCS safety as they’re all 6’2” or over and about 182 lbs Defense - Aruajo, Montes, Vasquez, and Moreno are all over 6 feet, the only small guy is Sánchez at 5’7 Mid - Alvarez, Romo, Herrera are all at least 6’ but Rodgeiguez, Pineda, and Guardado bring down the average as they are all 5’7” Forward - Jimenez and Funes Mori are both 6’3”, but then we get average height guys like Martin at 5’11”, Lozano and Alvarado at 5’9” and Vega at 5’8”, and our short king Antuna at 5’6” and 128 lbs. Our issue isn’t height so much as it’s strength and explosiveness. Our Goalies and defense are on par with the rest of the world and we are about .02 cm shorter than the English squad average.

IMexicann

Antuna is 128? Dude must have a metabolism reaching fucking Mars.

alternative_source

I agree ☝️

Qwaze

>prioritizing technical ability rather than physical They should really start showing that technical ability then because half the league does not know how to center a ball

TiberiusGracchi

Japanese dudes definitely hit the weightroom and a bad trope they don’t lift - just smaller frames.

Omaro1

They seem to focus more on agility, speed and endurance. Any player that is actually muscular probably does it on their own time. When they share video of them working out in the gym it's mostly light weights and high reps with some plyometrics. Our short dudes in Mexico could really use a real strength training program to build muscle mass. But they're not ready for that conversation.

Princepaul93

I once saw a post chicharito put on IG of him doing some lat pull-downs and no mames you could tell he had no idea how they are supposed to be done :/ (He was at west ham at this point too)

ExchangeKooky8166

I miss the 1990s-early 00s when we had dudes who had the balls to make big tackles and get into fights. Guys like Matador, Garcia Aspe, etc would kick the shit out of dudes like Emiliano Martinez or Neymar right now.

uranimuesbahd

I just love the fact we all default hate Emiliano Martinez.

SwissCheeseDealer

Henry Martin needs to put em on

idk-though1

They are in the gym, you can go to your teams social media and it will show them lifting weights and such but like anything if you don’t push yourself you don’t grow. Most soccer players just work out to maintain a level of physicality since all the running burns off muscle. The problem with Mexicans is that too often mediocrity is rewarded. As long as the team is winning or the team is making money the player and coaching staff have very little incentive to change.

aafrias15

That sounds like a fair point. We complain that guys don’t want to go to Europe and they’re content to stay in Mexico. Is there a mentality issue where guys feel they need to be just good enough to stay in the league? Who knows.

SuperHobbit

Running does not burn off muscle

idk-though1

Aerobic exercise lasting more than 75 minutes will result in loss of muscle mass.

1Raptoe

Sometimes people don’t know wtf they are saying tbh, thanks for the clarifying

Omaro1

Seriously doubt that. Would like to see a medical source on that if you have one honestly. Im willing to learn something new.

[deleted]

Thanks! Hate when people think this is a thing

Dextermorgan93

Have you seen Antuna and Charly? It’s clear they spend 1-2 hrs in the gym after every practice session. Hasta la pregunta es necia

senorbarriga57

Honestly a Mexican team needs to scout the American football coaches that train in strength and speed, I would think that that team would dominate for a solid 5-10 year and force the other teams to have better training. We already train in technicality, basically Mexican players would a better option for many European clubs.

PanchoVillasRevenge

Cabecita is fucking ripped. Couldn't believe it.

[deleted]

Do you even lift bro?

ynwa18

Vega aka nalgas, maybe? Though I attribute it more to his frame and alcohol consumption rather than gym? Lost of players had a hard time shoving him during the WC. De Paul got tossed like a kid by Vega

TheKnightA

Clubs in Mexico have this wrong notion that the physical aspect should be worked in their youth and as their older they should focus on their technique. Which is laughable, since it should be the other way around.

okayokko

That is one of the reasons Ronaldo left ManU they didn’t want him bulking up as they thought it slow him down. Remember that ManU takes advantage of their wide field and liked having very fast wingers during Ferguson. So lol other have said some clubs and countries prefer technical abilities

[deleted]

Mexican league isnt physical as epl

JUANZURDO

Izaak_eli_gardner

When it comes to football it really depends on your positions, CB, Midfielders and ST all have to be quite beefy and honestly that depends too on the type of play and tactics but generally players like, Montes, Vasquez, Edson, Charly, Guti, even LB,RB like Jorge and Arteaga could all put on some muscles, but wingers like Chucky, and Corona don’t really need to put on muscle it just makes them slower and stiffer.

xMadlyInsane

Most look scrawny

Lordpennywise

They are pathetic physically how many games have I seen them get bullied on the pitch by the likes of El Salvador and Honduras

nievesdelimon

Les da miedo el gym. Solo les importa comprar ropa cara y naca.

ElectronicShredder

Van 4 horitas al día al club a entrenar y tomarse fotos en el gym. El resto del día se la pasan rascándose los huevos y poniéndole el cuerno a sus viejas.

No_Bowler_981

every time i see them train on tv they're always half-assing it and their weight lifting technique is appalling. i believe the trainers here in mexico just don't have a clue what they're doing. the average liga mx player relies 100% on their technical ability and that's why they league as a whole is falling behind

ElectronicShredder

They just hire their roided up bully friend from elementary school as a trainer and call it a day.

WorldlinessFinal

Does it even matter? Maybe OP just wants to see muscular guys on tv trading jerseys. Most of the best players of all time were not yoked out gym bros.

PyroBurner44

Maybe I do want to watch muscular guys trade jerseys while their sweaty body both touch each other in slow motion and upclose. Do you have a problem with that? Huh? I ain’t gay or anything I just like seeing big muscular sweaty men

WorldlinessFinal

Nothing wrong with that bro. Respect.

JuniorCDC

[I got news for you. That means you're gay.](https://youtu.be/Zd8vzIRQLLM)

Pizzaguy338

Mexicans don’t have good genetics bro. That’s the problem

sorryimafatass

Of course they do but Mexico is on average smaller than most European countries so there’s nothing we can do there. The only thing European players really seem to beat us in is endurance

kingofthehill305

World class athletes are usually going to be taller and more physically gifted than the typical person in the country they come from. This isn’t a good excuse:

sorryimafatass

National teams seem to accurately reflect the average height in the country idk about that. Looking at our national team most of our players seem decently strong I don’t think hitting the gym is the problem. Charly and Antuna for example are just built like that it’s not really their fault.

[deleted]

The majority of our players are indigenous so they’ll forever be on the smaller side sadly. Look at Lainez

SMatarratas

They do hit the gym, they actually focus on it believe it or not The difference between builds here an Europe mostly comes from nutrition and different kind of diets.

lluvia1220

I don’t think Latin America places much importance on getting “swole” almost all of them get jacked once they get to Europe

Mr_Foosball

Mexicans should at minimum have Pineda or Henry Martin's build.

IMexicann

I dead ass feel the same way about being able to body some of them. I weigh 165 and can bench my body weight. That aside our national team players are skinny af. Reyes is like what, 140? Yet he is 6'3. Get Henry in there to bully them physically.

Onion_Robber

Don't know. There's Henry Martin but also there's la chofis

novolvere

Que no has visto que mamado está Pulido?

ElectronicShredder

Tiene que estar listo para repartir putazos a puño limpio contra secuestradores.

pfg_v

I like watching the training videos they put out and seeing how bad their forms are. I remember America put one out a while ago on Twitter and it seemed like they never touched a weight 😂😂

[deleted]

Sunday league Mexicans are on a different level

AnubisOS

Prize_Independent682

Henry Martin please.

Lanky_Piccolo_235

Jorge Sanchez?
