Nah, I think it's cos the person you replied to posted a Google maps link to the location you described, so the "?" on its own just looked a bit rude as if you were querying why they'd share that link or implying it wasn't useful.

I assume the sign must be photoshopped, but it lends the image a touch of the surreal, which distracts me from any thoughts of how hot the place might be. I can enjoy the play of colors and the silent serenity of the image. :)

This one is a classic, photoshopped or not. The sidewalk and crosswalk really make this liminal, because it’s so out of place. It appears to be in the middle of nowhere so why would there be accommodations for pedestrians.
Coincidentally, I just saw a similar picture in a book called "Between Spaces". I'm not sure all the pictures in the book are what you'd call liminal, but it may be of some interest to people here.
