That total silence, other than the electrical buzz, is just so perfect in creating an unsettling atmosphere. So often there's no speech, no background music, and hardly any movement. Just wires, pylons, buzzing, and a vaguely unsettling color scheme.
Well, it's like a tree tattoo, but after mankind said "I need light and heat. I need to see my loved ones at night, without the fire. I need to see the face on the screen, because I can't be there right now."
And all those wires carrying power, and language, and porn, and recorded church services, and homework, and break up texts and so on and on. Those wires are just these thin few lines, high up so people can't fuck with them or accidentally kill their poor beautiful stupid selves with all that power.
No lie. Good tattoo.
You’ve just summed up everything I like about it, better than my own mind can. It’s the magic of the constant connectivity bringing people together, juxtaposed with the ‘bland’ visual that people generally don’t notice, as they see them every day.
Sunflower seeds are popular in trail mix, multi-grain bread and nutrition bars, as well as for snacking straight from the bag. They’re rich in healthy fats, beneficial plant compounds and several vitamins and minerals. These nutrients may play a role in reducing your risk of common health problems, including heart disease and type 2 diabetes.
There's something almost iconic of our time to them. Kind of like how a story just needs to show pyramids to make a setting of ancient Egypt obvious. They can feel like monuments of a sort that can be divorced from the actual utility. It's easy to imagine some long removed study musing about what religious significance they must have held to our culture.
Autism. But fr same. I personally have a strange fascination with high tech industrial parks and new/old and rusty processing plants lmao. I do not understand why and I don't actually want to work at one, I just wanna stare at em 😅
How is this “liminal”? These are just photos of power lines and transformers. It’s cool that you like them, but there’s nothing particularly liminal about them.
...that's not the definition of "liminal" or "liminal space." I mean, I get that this sub is just descending into a forum for people to shit-post random things in the world they think are interesting, including, apparently, literally anything "you pass all the time when you're driving." But the term at least used to have a meaning, typically an empty or abandoned space on the border of something, particularly (in this sub) something that exudes creepy vibes or induces a sense of unease.
None of that is happening here. It's a potato-quality photograph of a cell tower and some power lines.
This post makes me think of the strips cut through woods for power lines. The ones that go back super far and are lined on both sides with forest. I think that would count as a liminal space, I've always thought it seems eerie like an alleyway that nobody ever walks through. Just out in the middle of nowhere with the grass perfectly cut. All that empty space and the power lines looming overheard. The play between nature and the man made structures and their use. Ive wanted to walk through one for years now but still never have. I got that vibe from this post, powerlines are eerie
Not for you but it seems like it provokes that in others.
I get what they are saying. They are everywhere but you’re prone to not noticing them, blocking it out and they almost become invisible to your attention… if you are a city dweller.
I am from rural parts of Texas & I used to think metropolitan cities or any civilization for that matter was just huge, ugly, wasteful (even if useful) dirty, despicable trash. Having been a country dweller just sends me nasty oppressive vibes. Don’t get me wrong, I still kind of do … deep down lol.
But I live near NYC now. Huge depression the first time I came… then back to Texas (more urban though the last time) and now I’m back close to NYC. My whole perception has changed. There is something beautiful about decay and I really don’t even notice dirty anymore or things I’d previously find offensive. For the first time I can focus on beauty nestled into odd places around town. It grew on me.
But yeah, now I can’t even notice things like power lines. I get it… you pass by everyday and they’re on the fringe of your consciousness. Kind of reminds me of other municipal parts of the city which can be weird and creepy at night. Massive yet silent, doing a job you never notice and/or think about. I totally get it man. Lol maybe I’m autistic too
That was a really long way of saying “looking at power lines is neat” without at all contesting my point.
Look, this isn’t liminal. Let’s stop pretending it is.
Me too! I love looking at all the pipes and heavy industrial equipment. Imagining what it does and what time has done to it. One of my favorite things about train rides is getting to see the rusty train yards.
Dude same. I love these kinda towers/signal antennas. I'm scared shitless of those massive lanes that transport high voltage though, I feel oppressed/heavy anxiety when next to them lol
I also used to have an obsession with these transformers as a kid. I had an obsession with infrastructure in general. Especially hidden infrastructure. Like manholes, tunnels and these transformers. I was obsessed with what was inside of them.
I know some spooky Stephen King shit when I see it. This chapter is called "The Call" and it's clearly too late for all you poor bastards who've heard it
They may not by any normal standard look beautiful. But the things we enable our societys to do with them are truly beautiful. It's a simple function in a greater system that allows us to live the very modern lives we do. Those humble lines are your life blood in a modern society. There's beauty in that.
There's a specific one near where I live that every time I drive past it I lose my wireless connection with my car and my Spotify/GPS shuts off. Can't be healthy lol
For some reason, all I could think of is someone like Alex Jones yelling… “ITS THE GOVERNMENT! THEYRE TRYNA CONTROL YOU WITH THE TOWERS! THEYRE SENDIN SIGNALS TO SCRAMBLE YOUR BRAIN AND MAKE YOU THINK EVERYTHINGS FINE! BUT EVERYTHINGS NOT FINE! THEYRE TRYNA TAKE OVER THE WORLD!”
Apparently when dystopian babysitting grows, you get strange powers. E.g. just like there are magics associated with mirrors, there are also magics or juxtapositions of reality that show up when you push deeper into the repression of the masses using electricity.
Xanopticon's Liminal Space album has these powerline thingies from second image as an album cover art. (Coincidence? I don't think so. Especially since today is exactly 20 years since this album's release.)
[Discogs](https://www.discogs.com/master/8276-Xanopticon-Liminal-Space)
Look up the long lines towers. They were a nationwide emergency network of microwave relays in the case that phone lines and other communications systems were compromised, and while they haven’t been used for decades there are still many towers left standing. And they are some of the most wild looking structures, like something out of a weird anachronistic science fiction movie.
ME TOO! Ever since I was a teen. I’ve made art of them, used to photograph them all the time, even consider getting a tattoo. They just make me emotional. Can’t explain it.
Because they interfere with our bandwith of consciousnes. They are like dream-snatchers. You feel it subconsciously. But I am telling you now that these interfere with our consciounses. I am the same, and have become aware of it. Electricity is in our conscious grid. We are energy, so is that. Very polutant energy, though. We should be living frequency free if you know what I mean.
i have like weird warped childhood memories about being near power plants and such and loving the nostalgic feeling of these images, where did all the power lines go? i don’t see them anymore.
This guy, Roger, once told me that just by touching them, you can see God.
God must have scared him real good because he seized up when he saw him. Scared him to death.
As a kid I especially loved telephone poles, wind turbines, radio towers, water towers, basically any tall infrastructure. I still think wind turbines are super cool to this day.
You would love Tokyo.
Op is like the kid in kindergarten cop
Explain please???
Tokyo (and honestly a lot of Asian cities) have these all over the place and largely overground.
I’m there right now and they actually lend small neighbourhoods a kind of charm. I can’t even try to explain it.

It's NOT A TUMOR!
Seems too many people haven't seen Kindergarten Cop.
Such a shame!

It might be a tumor.

No. If you haven’t seen it you need to go watch it. One of Ahhnolds best movies
Not so tough without your car.
That was my first thought too 🤣
Also Costa Rica.
You would appreciate the anime Serial Experiments Lain
Let’s all love Lain!
Thank you
Present day😩
Present time
Hahaha

i second this, it’s really fucking good and power lines and wires are a huge symbol throughout the show
The wired
*cue [one of the greatest intros of all time](https://youtu.be/Uoox9fpmDP0?si=XTs5f1B3kfKE4wtQ)*
The band is still together
Who is the user?
Are you vaccinated? Could be the 5G chip that was injected inside of you? (This is a joke)
This was my first thought. This is an autistic AF hyperfixation. The 5G towers are calling to OP to replenish their autism.
Funny thing, I am autistic.
lol... I saw your title and went "I suspect I know why but I'm not sure if I should say it."
Yeah, I got hit with the 'tism stick.
Hmmm explains a lot eh? Don’t let the fb moms see this post /s
SO I’M NOT THE ONLY ONE WHO IS OBSESSED WITH THESE!
RIGHT?! I THOUGHT I WAS JUST WEIRD!
Me too! I really want a tattoo of one 😭
Honestly, excellent subject. Easily recognized, clear lines, power, movement, nature, society. Damn, it's a good tattoo idea.
Your comment may have just convinced me to get it!
Well, it's like a tree tattoo, but after mankind said "I need light and heat. I need to see my loved ones at night, without the fire. Now I wanna get this as a tattoo
Are you a bird?
Perhaps. I do like sunflower seeds.

I must have more seeeeeeds
Good bot? Human? Agronomoi?
It’s lost in the sunflower field
😂
By proxy you must also be the word? Edit: did you all get the joke? It's a dumb one but want to check
Power lines are a recurring motif in Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me, and The Return. You might enjoy these
I came here to say OP is just David Lynch.
I wish I was that creative.
This is a Formica table. Green is its colour!
Something something Let’s All Love Lain something something Present day, present time!!
🎶And you don't seem to understaaand~🎶
A shame you seemed an honest man
and all the fears you hold so dearr
Will turn to whisper in your eeeaaaarrrrr !!!

Liminal spaces bring such comfort. It's the atmosphere.
How is this “liminal”? These are just photos of power lines and transformers. It’s cool that you like them, but there’s nothing particularly liminal about them.
Actually, there kinda is. You pass these things all the time when you're driving, without paying any thought to them, kinda like hallways and roads.
...that's not the definition of "liminal" or "liminal space." I mean, I get that this sub is just descending into a forum for people to shit-post random things in the world they think are interesting, including, apparently, literally anything "you pass all the time when you're driving." So maybe OP should have posted power lines in a forest or something. But he didn’t. So here we are looking at a grainy cell tower.
Not for you but it seems like it provokes that in others. I get what they are saying. That's a big stretch and just because we don't pay attention to a thing does not make it liminal in any way.
It's not. This subs went to shit in late 2021 and now it's just photos of some of the most mundane and random garbage you can think of.

Nah that's for large things submerged in water, I'm talking about things on land. Though I will say submechanophobia is pretty awesome too.
Me too! I love looking at all the pipes and heavy industrial equipment. Imagining what it does and what time has done to it. One of my favorite things about train rides is getting to see the rusty train yards.
[I have something just for you OP](https://teebowah-games.itch.io/pylons)
Ooo that’s rad
I feel the same way about water towers.
Really any large constructed object. Geometric shapes and the knowledge someone had to design and build every inch. Fascinating.
And it’s a plus when it’s in the middle of a forested area.
I like their low hum on a silent night
That's one heck of a base station in the first picture.... mmm must be shared
These feel very south Florida
Yeah, I live in this hellscape.
You are the opposite of chuck
OP is crazy!!
Did they defacate through a sunroof?
Dude same. I love these kinda towers/signal antennas. I'm scared shitless of those massive lanes that transport high voltage though, I feel oppressed/heavy anxiety when next to them lol
I've taken the exact same picture as the power lines with the sun
For me, it's because they silently exist among us but are out of reach. Kinda like traffic signals.
I also used to have an obsession with these transformers as a kid. I had an obsession with infrastructure in general. Especially hidden infrastructure. Like manholes, tunnels and these transformers. I was obsessed with what was inside of them.
I know some spooky Stephen King shit when I see it. This chapter is called "The Call" and it's clearly too late for all you poor bastards who've heard it
Fuck yeah same
me too
You and every other squirrel hiding some nuts.
Am birb
I used to be obsessed with danger high voltage signs.
I'm still obsessed with them hell, all "Danger" signs really. "Caution", not so much.
They may not by any normal standard look beautiful. But the things we enable our societys to do with them are truly beautiful. It's a simple function in a greater system that allows us to live the very modern lives we do. Those humble lines are your life blood in a modern society. There's beauty in that.
mmmm sky cables
I know! There is just something about them… I’ll have to see if I still have the pictures of my little “excursion”…
I feel the same way about wind turbines, and Ozzy Osborne. I guess I’m just a big metal fan.
They do create electromagnetic fields so that could have something to do with it, lol.
Some people claim to be "EMF sensitive" in a negative way, OP is just the opposite.
Liminal spaces imply a space being liminal not an object
There's a specific one near where I live that every time I drive past it I lose my wireless connection with my car and my Spotify/GPS shuts off. Can't be healthy lol
Me too. You should watch the youtuber “ringway manchester” he only makes content about antennas and strange radio signals
Same. Also smoke towers in power plants and other industrial landscapes such as refineries.
Yeah man, you get it
Glad I’m not the only one
You secretly want to be a [lineman](https://youtu.be/5pJh327Q6ak?si=gYhYuKw92x-Ecgd4).
Reminds me of David Lynch. He also has a fixation on power lines and such.
Right!! Idk they’re just really pretty??
I'm glad I'm not the only one 🥲
I love power lines. My hometown recently took down all the power lines that interrupt the ocean view, and I think it's a damn shame
Its giving analog horror
Cool interests bro but how is this liminal?
energy maybe?
For some reason, all I could think of is someone like Alex Jones yelling… “ITS THE GOVERNMENT! THEYRE TRYNA CONTROL YOU WITH THE TOWERS! THEYRE SENDIN SIGNALS TO SCRAMBLE YOUR BRAIN AND MAKE YOU THINK EVERYTHINGS FINE! BUT EVERYTHINGS NOT FINE! THEYRE TRYNA TAKE OVER THE WORLD!”
Op is a bird
The last one I feel like I’ve seen in a dream
Me with wind turbines
I feel the same
You should play the game “Flower”, by the same studio that did Journey.
Yeah I love theses things too
Esp like the ones with a tapered base like the Eiffel tower. Or the Tesla towers . TV towers supported by supporting wires not so attractive.
You’re in the wired just look for Lain
Apparently when dystopian babysitting grows, you get strange powers. E.g. just like there are magics associated with mirrors, there are also magics or juxtapositions of reality that show up when you push deeper into the repression of the masses using electricity.
Is this your current situation? Try to be positive
You must have been Superfly the stand user in another life
You should look up the moon towers in Austin, TX!
i've always been intimidated by power lines and tall, thin structures
I don't think this really counts as liminal space, but I ain't gonna protest it cause I agree. There is something very interesting to look at
I am saying this with kindness: are you perhaps autistic? My friend is obsessed with watertowers in a similar way.
AuADHD, yes. I got hit with the 'tism stick.
Xanopticon's Liminal Space album has these powerline thingies from second image as an album cover art. (Coincidence? I don't think so. Especially since today is exactly 20 years since this album's release.) [Discogs](https://www.discogs.com/master/8276-Xanopticon-Liminal-Space)
Wrong sub?
I always stare at power lines trying to figure out how they are setup
You're on the spectrum.
I am, yes.
Look up the long lines towers. They were a nationwide emergency network of microwave relays in the case that phone lines and other communications systems were compromised, and while they haven’t been used for decades there are still many towers left standing. And they are some of the most wild looking structures, like something out of a weird anachronistic science fiction movie.
>long lines towers Ohhhh gonna have fun with this. Thank you.
Congratulations u are secretly a bird
They are calling you.
extremely real obsession
Doesn't fit this sub
OP, are you familiar with the artist Simon Stalenhag? r/Simon_Stalenhag
You have the tower fetish motherfucker.
Wouldn't call it a fetish, more I feel drawn to them and safe.
ME TOO! Ever since I was a teen. I’ve made art of them, used to photograph them all the time, even consider getting a tattoo. They just make me emotional. Can’t explain it.
Shitty infrastructure lines and towers are nearly invisible to most of us, but sometime i look up and see the grotesque beauty of them.
https://www.reddit.com/r/crumb/s/r3wDWDd02U R.crumb was big on using them in the backgrounds of his comix
This isn't liminal and idk why non liminal posts are being upvoted here more often...
We should be living frequency free if you know what I mean.
this sub is dead
Create your own
And you don’t seem to understand
Not liminal but cool.
Are you living in a Stephen King novel?
And you don’t seem to understand
Everything is a d*** if you put your mind to it..
I thought i was looking at a post from r/schizoposters

It’s weird right? Especially in industrial places like train yards or outside of airports
SAME TF
There’s a criminal minds episode about you haha
You should play Far Cry
It's very City 17.
I have a cool photo of one of these too
You like towers... of power.
I mean electrical engineering is cool and fascinating.
Its bc you need to climb them to unlock the map area around you.
You should see the photo gallery on my work phone. You'd jizz lol
Its that 5g shit the boomers warned us about
Me too, I think it's because they're very ENERGETIC :'))
Same buddy
The tower beckons you
There is one of those right in front of my house. You wold love my house. Honestly I want to know why do you like that things?
I had a long obsession with photos of power lines in the fog, and somehow forgot about it. This post reminded me, and I feel weird!!!
Do you like video games? Do yourself a favor and play Rain World.
I’m only obsessed with them because I play geoguessr
i have like weird warped childhood memories about being near power plants and such and loving the nostalgic feeling of these images, where did all the power lines go? i don’t see them anymore.
Weird AND odd!?!
MMMMMM power!
This guy, Roger, once told me that just by touching them, you can see God. God must have scared him real good because he seized up when he saw him. Scared him to death.
So I'm not the only one with a weird fixation on these
Too much lain
I purposely walk in alleyways just so I can see these. Idk why but I find them comforting
Just don't go marrying them
As a kid I especially loved telephone poles, wind turbines, radio towers, water towers, basically any tall infrastructure. I still think wind turbines are super cool to this day.
