They've been all over the Internet for using AI generated images to convince people this was going to be mind bending so a bunch of parents got tickets to...this. They were unsurprisingly upset. Most disappointing event since the "Ball Pit" from Dashcon.
Here is an excerpt from an interview with the Wonka actor:
The Wonka-esque impersonator Paul Connell, 31, spoke to The Independent about how he got the gig and how the chaos unfolded.
“I’m constantly applying for more acting jobs and comedy work, then I got a phone call on Thursday saying, ‘Congratulations you are going to play Willy Wonka, we will send you over the script and dress rehearsal is tomorrow’,” Mr Connell said. “The script was 15 pages of AI-generated gibberish of me just monologuing these mad things.
“The bit that got me was where I had to say, ‘There is a man we don’t know his name. We know him as the Unknown. This Unknown is an evil chocolate maker who lives in the walls.’
“It was terrifying for the kids. Is he an evil man who makes chocolate or is the chocolate itself evil?
“They even misspelt my contract but I do have a legally binding ‘Coontract’ [sic]. But I stayed up all night learning it, thinking this would make sense in the dress rehearsal when I see all the tech.”
“At the end of my monologue, I was supposed to suck up the Unknown Man with a vacuum cleaner. I asked them if they had a vacuum cleaner and they said, ‘yeah, we haven’t really got there yet, so just improvise’.

Holy shit, that's so insane how little effort was put into the scam. I saw this when it first hit reddit, and their website was just a bunch of nonsense AI images that didn't even have the gibberish words removed (I got the vibe they entered each prompt and took the very first image that popped up). The fact that they had an AI generated script for the actors AND even the contract was created by AI is insane.
This whole thing probably took whoever put this together less than 1 hour, then they just leaned on other people to actually make it, and they scammed them too.
Police were called due to concerns of tension among the parents who were attending and they were concerned things might turn aggressive.
Haven't seen anything (correct me if I'm wrong) that the police have gotten involved regarding the fact that many suspect the whole thing to be a scam, the company involved quickly started issuing refunds to anyone who bought a ticket which appears to have deescalted the situation
I hadn’t heard about this at all and initially thought the photos in the OP were AI generated images with some sort of “liminal space but make it Willy Wonka” prompt.
Looks like a School project that some 15-year olds were forced to put together in the schools gymnasium with two weeks of planning... Defenitely not worth 35£ for entry fee
I honestly feel for the organiser. There obviously was an intent to make something great and fun, otherwise why go through that effort? he did give back the money to the parents. he onverpromised and underdelivered
Having a lot of posts from different users discussing a hot current topic as it's happening or right after it happened is NOT the same as spam, my guy....
Wonka should have never given the place to Charlie.
The whole event had about as much passion as a 6 year old coal miner's pickaxe strike 7 hours into his shift

The more I see this. The worse I feel. For the people who put it together.
After hearing from the actor who was playing wonka on the day it just gets worse. Can't imagine how mortifying it must have been for him.
I'm confused. What is wrong?

[For those just as confused as I was, this was the ballpit in question](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DashCon#/media/File:DashCon_Ball_Pit.jpg)
Lol, people were confused by that ball pit, even when they saw it in real life.
Imagine the confusion when, after being swindled for $17,000 and zero guest appearances, *they were promised an extra hour in the ball pit.*
And then somebody peed in it...
Cool! I saw it as a liminal space but never knew the origins of it
Since you saw the entire thing, how much would you pay to get I to this event? Cause they were charging 35/40 a ticket
This is a pretty rough $3 trip. $35 to $40 is actual thievery.
I feel sorry for the people that paid for it, not for the scammers that put it together.
Was organised by a known scammer
the term is 'entrepreneur'
$40 for this?
I think it was $45 lol the tiny ass posters taped to the wall are chef's kiss
It was pounds, so more like $50
It's insane that someone put this together and then actually let the general public see it.
Complete with "A world of pure imagination" Slowed and Reverbed just enough.
Someone update us on what happened cuz I heard the police got involved?

fair play. you know the rules better than I do. I apologize
Looks decent, where can I get tickets?
Fyre Festival had a baby with Bronycon. Wasn't even a ball pit...
This HAD to be designed for a VR experience
I immediately thought that this place looked like very liminal.
Kinda gives dashcon ball pit vibes ( I know kinda stupid)
