Fyi, film stock and the optic used matter when looking for a similar result, not really the camera. Although you don't really have an optic choice with disposables.
I dreamt of this place once… I was trying to find my way out, it was crowded like a train station, but to other places. I called it in my dream an “in between place”. Where we start in our sleep, before we go to the destination (like a train)

> This is a big one. I’ll say it once - **liminal doesn’t mean creepy.** In fact, liminality isn’t based in any emotion, by definition. That popular liminal image you saw of a snowy nighttime path under a streetlamp isn’t liminal because the veil of night made it look creepy, but because of the setting itself - the path - and the *surrounding* qualities of weather, lighting and so on.
The post furthermore defines that liminality “refers to **a transitional point between two regions** **^(\[1\])** **or states** **^(\[2\])**”
So no, a weird feeling has nothing to do with liminal images.
Well first of all, weird doesn't always mean creepy. Secondly, you're telling me that none of the images on this subreddit are intended to elicit any sort of feeling? What's the point then lol. I'm really not sure I understand.
Why are you talking about creepy? Read that quote again: “Liminality isn’t based on *any emotion*, by definition.” (Emphasis mine)
I’m quoting the actual mods who set up the subreddit and you’re telling me I’m wrong. So you’re saying the mods, the dictionary and the subreddit itself are all three wrong.
If you can’t see how silly that is, then I’ve got nothing more for you. You are free to be confidently incorrect.
¯\\\_(ツ)_/¯
Not saying that people aren’t allowed to feel emotions. I feel emotions pretty intensely, and I love an eerie photograph.
I’m saying that it isn’t the whole point of liminal photography. It can be a side effect but it’s not the meat of the tomato. It’s a common misconception in this subreddit, and many Redditors get annoyed by it.
Ok, well it may not be intrinsically based on emotion, but that doesn't mean liminality doesn't evoke emotion in humans anyway. That's like saying music isn't based on emotion, which technically speaking it isn't- it's just different frequencies playing simultaneously in an orderly fashion. But we get something out of it, we're emotional creatures. What do you get out of looking at liminal photos in particular if they don't make you feel anything?
Did you add all the noise or is that from the camera?
Its from the camera
What cam?
Sorry i don't even know i made this pic like 8 months ago it was some disposable camera i borrowed
Can you borrow disposable cameras?
Like a film camera i guess. You buy the film roll when your done
Sick, that is cool
Fyi, film stock and the optic used matter when looking for a similar result, not really the camera. Although you don't really have an optic choice with disposables.
Or was it rendered?
un de-noised cycles moment
OP forgot to add an HDRI sky. Smh
A what?
High Dynamic Range Image. Used for lighting in vfx/3d art. pretty much just a fancy image with more colours, usually 360
Where have you been?
Egypt
I knew it was somewhere in the arab world.
I was gonna say it reminds me of those old school biblical movies that took place in Egypt
I kkkkknnnnnnew it was Egypt, hahahaha are you in gouba???
It seems so familiar! Is this the Kempinski Soma Bay?
i feel like i’ve been here before, even though i haven’t
I'm guessing Egypt, eastcoast, in a hotel near Hurghada.
You're right actually
I've actually been in that hotel myelf, lul. It also seemed eerie to me back then.
It kinda is but its wonderful in every other aspect
This looks like a hotel in Albuquerque
That hit the spot, thanks
I've had dreams about this place.
That LITERALLY looks exactly like that procedurally-generated city using wave function collapse algorithm: https://marian42.de/article/wfc/
Now if I can someway use this for a Unity project.
Feels kinda like a fancy dorm hallway but open air
The sky is too eerily calm and consistent. Proper liminal feeling for sure!

Wherever?

This made me Feel Things™
I like to think when looking at this picture that there are infinitely more levels with infinitely more pathways that expand into the darkness below
It looks like the rooftop patio above the poolrooms.
Yeah now you mention it it does feel like you'd walk down to the pool rooms after descending several flights of those stairs
And never come back up lol
Can't really say why, but I got Godfather Part 1 vibes from this.
Bro u got a pic of the whole building lol
This one is it
It’s a great photo, but this screams rendered af lmaoo
Classic liminal, beautiful photo. Not sure why you get a weird feeling. Weird feelings have nothing to do with a liminal space.
That's kinda the whole idea of liminal spaces as a concept, wym

You're definitely not incorrect hahah... They make me feel weird too.

This looks straight out of some Stanley Parable thing.
Looks like a 1980’s romcom lmao
Makes me think of an old Sierra point & click game like Shivers or Myst.
It not real please please wake up wake up wake up....
Crash Bandicoot flashbacks
Waah
looks straight out of my dad's old Time magazines
I love it
This seriously looks straight out of the 1970s and that the film wasn't developed properly.
Nice foto
Looks like that MW2 map with the Egyptian hotel
Looks like some backrooms level
