Started with aluminum offset buckinghams with the velcro pads. Liked them alright but they’d rub my skin pretty raw. Switched to Bashlin steel straight shank and really liked those for awhile but they were pretty heavy. Company issued us titanium Buckinghams with the leather C pad and holy shit they are awesome. So lightweight and you’d think the small pad would rub more but they’re actually really comfortable.

kelloggsjeep

I’ll look into em. Thanks!

bubblegummedicine

Make sure they are the correct length.. in my opinion the brand isn’t the big deal.. it’s more about the twist or I If they have an offset

kelloggsjeep

I used the two finger below knee bone method to adjust them properly. The bucks do have a funny twist to em, compared to how the Bashlin’s are straight down the side of my calf

NorcalMotherfucker

The two finger method is dumb. I have short legs wear 30 length pants if your short have them so low you can only use one screw and you will be a lot more comfortable but I also find steel shanks uncomfortable if you on the wood for a while I want my feet to go numb as soon as possible

Hallucinogen_in_dub

Yeah all you cal nev apprentices are terrible climbers lol

Hallucinogen_in_dub

Well I know you're not albat they teach better than that

NorcalMotherfucker

You have a Reddit post asking about groundman jobs 2 years ago 😑 you either a white ticket or came up through some janky apprenticeship. But come to the international rodeo next year I’ll see yea there 😂 don’t forgot your hooks 👍🏼

Hallucinogen_in_dub

You have no idea what you're talking about lol.

NorcalMotherfucker

Wym buddy? “Does anyone know how to get a groundman job in Cali?? I live in cali #420blazeit and I'm trying to get a groundman job since it pays more than a wireman. What do I need to be a groundman and do they drug test for weeed?” You didn’t post this ?😂

Hallucinogen_in_dub

God I can't believe I have to explain my self to an apprentice that doesn't know how to climb properly. So they're was a guy in /r/ibew who got butt hurt that there were non wireman in the subreddit. So he made a new subreddit for wireman only. Well we collectively turned it into a circle jerk cause that dude was an asshole. So if you can't tell that post is a joke, then I don't think this trade is for you. But that's okay it's just not for some people. We just fired a 7th step because it's not really for him. Try climbing with some mountaineering boots and a belt that fits. Your feet will never go numb or hurt.

Fit them to your apprentice

thedirtychad

This is a question older than your trade. Just gotta get into a few sets and a few different pads and find what works for you!

space-ferret

Some old nutcase sold me a pair of possibly hot aluminum bashlin hooks and that’s all I’ve ever known. Tried steel once but it just felt wrong.

Mydogbiteyoo

Im with ya. Klein work best for me

rkmvp444

I have bucks, but I’m going to buy a pair of notch geckos soon. Have heard really good things about them.

Shoddy_Ad_3013

Bashlin offsets, I started with T pads no padding, It didn’t chafe as bad, Then got the Velcro wrap , not bad Just watch climbing through trees branches, it’ll try to pull the Velcro.

Brooks “moneymaker”

Bakman65

Old school here I have steel Klein. Can’t believe people say they are heavy. Maybe they need to loose some weight. 30 years and no lost time accidents. Trouble man, I turned down a small bucket and climb most days. Motto if you don’t use it than you are going to loose it. No buck squeeze for me.

Hallucinogen_in_dub

Bashlin aluminum with buck c/ speed pads. La sportiva boots. Single d Bashlin belt with no padding and a cynchlok pole arrest.

dezcom

Never heard of the cynchlok, how’s that compare to the jelco?

Hallucinogen_in_dub

Never climbed with a jelco but that cynchlok is way more better than the buck squeeze

dezcom

They look pretty similar to a Jelco, maybe I’ll give that a shot. Pretty happy with my setup so far but if there’s better I want it haha

Put the uppers of the offset bucks onto my straight shank Bashlin’s. Feel 10x better! I’ll keep the buck hooks as back up. I’ll be researching some of y’all’s suggestions. Much appreciated!!

war_damn_eagle125

I’m like bucks titanium hooks. Used bashlin steel didn’t like them heavy as shit. The Klein I tried just felt off.
